This was not a new situation for the Knight of Earth. When he was newer to the job, he had broken his arm before. While building strength in his shield arm when he was first starting out it had been broken and fractured a few times.

But that was when he was new.

Now, the experienced Knight of Earth was rather grumpy about things. He was injured and it was definitely getting in the way of his ability to defend himself and others.

Theoretically.

He hadn't run into a fight yet, and hoped he didn't, but how was he going to defend anyone when he had a broken arm and could not put his shield up? He had to use his off hand for it, and it was not his strongest. But then, maybe this was a good thing. A nice way to train so he could use both arms interchangeably.

Or he could just hope he did not run into anything that would require it. He should have just not gone on patrol, but that was impossible for him. Here he was, walking down the dark street, keeping a look out tensely as he made his way.

Holy crap, Christmas came early.

The thought danced through Realgar's mind, and across his expression, with a flash of malicious glee when it hit him that there was something... off... about the armored knight. He'd run into him very briefly once before, and found the man unbearably sanctimonious... but then again Realgar thought pretty much everyone was some shade of unbearable, intolerable, or obnoxious.

He knew hurt when he saw it. He'd been hurt plenty of times, and he knew the moves that went into trying to work around it.

He'd barely powered up before he saw the guy, which he felt might actually work to his advantage. Camelot was a powerful fighter, he'd use any time he could get to get the drop on the guy, even if it was just the few seconds it might take to pinpoint the relatively weak signature of a Lieutenant. He had no youma to help out, not even a terribly useful weapon, but the Tin Man was hurt

Hurt count for something. And any victories he could stack on top of their big win would only help the cause. Even if it was a little one.

He unpocketed a handful of Jacks and scattered them on the sidewalk in front of him, heart pounding loudly in his ears, since if this DIDN'T go the way he was planning, his own bruised ribs would be the least of his worries, and injuries.

But some things were worth gambling hurt on. This was one of them. He'd walked away from ******** Senshi Royals. He could walk away from Tin Man. Especially rusty.

"Hey!" he called out a challenge, savoring a prickle of adrenaline. "You miss me Tin Man? Can't have enjoyed our first date too much, you didn't even bring me flowers!"

Camelot often wondered why he did not listen when people told him sensible things. Like staying inside when he was injured. Not that he had told his fiance yet, and she was probably wondering where he had gotten to.

It would be even worse if he had to explain a second set of injuries. Or would it? If he got hurt now he could say it all happened at once.

Wait, what was he thinking?

His goal was to avoid getting hurt at all, not figure out a good way to explain it when it did happen. His lack of confidence in himself was surprising and unwelcomed, and he shoved the whole thought process out of his head.

He looked over at the Nega as his sense prickled in warning. He frowned and took stock. Familiar Negaverse Lieutenant. Not particularly polite. But, he knew that meant he did not have a very viable weapon to work with and he was not able to teleport. Two things that worked in the Knight's favor. He was assuming the Nega was at full strength, however, which put Chaos ahead there.

"I'm sorry to hurt your feelings. I'm just looking for something more from my dates with Chaos. Maybe when you're grown up a bit more, we can have a proper meeting."

He weighed his options. Banter his way out of a fight and get himself home somehow, or risk advocating peace and in turn instigating a fight. He wanted to be serious, but he did not want to be seriously wounded. So he was in a pickle. Shifting his stance, he tried to pretend both arms were in working order, holding himself in a defensive pose.

He had to admit he was still hoping to provoke Camelot into approaching, he was absolutely dying to see if the jacks were small enough to get caught in the seams of his armor. Although it wouldn't hurt he was pretty sure it would be ******** hilarious, and he held his ground, folding his arms across his aching ribs.

Last time they'd fought though Camelot had been preaching the "I don't want to hurt you" line, he was probably going to be hard to provoke. He might have a hot button though. Or answers.

"I gotta tell you, you've missed some fun at the races, Tin Man." He teased, remembering how much his street races had upset him before. "Although I can't say I was impressed, you guys do shitty with the whole Curfew thing, if you're letting ten year old's out to the track at night. I mean... think of everything he could get into. Beer. Fights...."

Although he was hoping Camelot would rise to provocation, he was also still damned curious what the hell the Senshi and their allies were thinking, enlisting the help of little shits like Ixion. "How are you folks planning on explaining it to his parents when he doesn't come home?"

Oddly enough, Camelot was wondering distantly if the jacks would get stuck in the grooves of his armor, as well. Except he did not think it would be very funny if that did happen: it would limit his motion or even hurt. But definitely annoy, if nothing else.

"I agree with you," he said almost evenly, knowing that he was being prodded like a bear in a cage and doing his best to keep his temper in check. The wake up call from the battle had done wonders for that, at least. He knew his place again, and he had to return to that path.

Peace.

Even if his enemies were almost always jerks.

"I don't believe children should be in this war. But then, most senshi and most of you, as well, would be home, safe and sound, and the war would be over without its fighters if I had my way. You're all children, why do you think you should be fighting any more than a ten year old should be?"

He took a step forward, though he was careful about it. He thought maybe getting closer would be an act of faith, and tried not to look very aggressive. Which was fairly easy, since his broken arm just made him look pathetic.

"I'll tell you what I'm not" Somewhere in his speech Camelot had put his finger somewhere in the proximity of a raw nerve. "I'm not a CHILD. I had a straight ride to everything I ever WANTED before your ******** SENSHI started tearing up the place!"

Safe and sound? Safe and sound? Who was ever safe and sound. You got no where in life curling up in the blankets and shutting out danger. He'd been Hermes with roaring wings at his heels and it was all GONE. He wanted to gouge that pain out of someone else, until his own went away.

Maybe he should have been flattered that at 26 he still looked young enough to be 'a child', but it just made him more upset, talked down to.

Camelot had found his path in Peace, but Realgar had become a stranger to the idea, still lashing out in the dark on the off chance that it might help somehow. He certainly looked like he was preparing to lash out now.

Whoopsie.

Camelot arched an eyebrow at the young man before him. So he was not a child, that much was obvious, and maybe Camelot was being a little condescending with his comments. But he meant them honestly enough, even if they were degrading to hear.

In the end, every soldier fighting in this war was wasting their lives. Losing time that they could never get back. Their informative years, their childhoods, their teenage years. The best times of their lives, that's what it felt like, were being wasted. And they could never get them back.

Some never even saw adulthood.

"Look, you don't get it. How old are you? A teenager? Maybe in your twenties. So you've seen the world, right? You know your place in it. You've served a cause, you have been told your part and you follow it. You've been shown things you now know you believe. But you're wrong. You're blinded! This is not your war, it shouldn't be any of ours! Why should we throw away the best years we have left on some fight that was already drawn out ages before we even existed. Were you happy before you became what you are now?"

He was ranting a bit, but he couldn't help himself, Realgar's anger and frustration pumping Camelot up in turn.

"What's wrong with wanting to go back to that, without killing everyone around us in the process? Can't you see what you're doing? You complain about kids being in the war, but what do you do to stop it? Nothing! You give them an enemy to fight: a reason to be. It will never end!"
PostPosted: Mon Sep 24, 2012 10:03 am

"You're honest to ******** god bitching at me for being out here when you're clanking around in a ******** tin can?" Realgar challenged, hot to point out the hypocrisy in the Knight's complaint. "We aren't goddamn recruiting kids, you wanna be the one to spank the little shits and send them home? At least if I put the fear of God into them they might get an idea of how damn stupid they are. I'd rather be the ******** boogieman than the one telling their parents that their goddamn ten year old died in the ******** Children's Crusade. You know how THAT went, Crusader? The guy who organized that probably thought he was doing the right thing too."

HE was blind? HE was blind?!?! b*****d. He had known what his place was, and he was still trying to find a goddamn new one after loosing the old. At least the Negaverse gave him power to try and find that place.

Camelot frowned.

He supposed it was not the easiest message to convey when he was out on patrol, but he felt he was justified. and he knew that just made it worse, because he could easily be called a hypocrite. But he was not out here hurting people for his own advancement, or for the gain of his kind.

He was out here defending the innocent.

"I don't want to hurt anyone! I only have to be out here because there are people like you, running around hurting people, hurting each other. All I want to do is stop the fighting, not cause more. I could have defeated you by now, if I wanted to, but I haven't even lifted a finger to attack you. Don't you understand? We're fighting over nothing! Why do you fight, then, if you're so certain that my crusade is a lost cause. What are you fighting for?"

He watched Realgar keenly, trying not to get angry. That would not really help the situation.
PostPosted: Fri Sep 28, 2012 1:55 pm

Realgar had stopped believing in the existence of innocence at some point, but he probably wouldn't have been able to say exactly when. No that was a lie, if confronted with the issue he probably would have said it bled out on the race track before the EMTs could get there, holding hands with his visions for the future. That wasn't what he'd been asked though.

"I'm sure you think you could." Realgar noted, eyes lingering on the arm Camelot was favoring. "I've noticed you lot tend to be optimistic like that." It was a full on dare to try, that was. "Why do I even have to bother justifying my reasons to you? What could you possibly offer me that was better? Your bullshit Peace? We both know that's not going to happen any time soon. Probably not in our lifetimes. A one way trip to just being a civilian pawn in all this? ******** no to that, thank you very much. Seriously. What could you POSSIBLY sell me on? A set of Fuller brushes?"

"You call me out for my reasons, but hide behind your excuses for yours. You can't tell me why you fight, what you're fighting for. I don't think you even know, just that you're fighting and it's all you know how to do now. You believe it, I know you do, and you are loyal. But to what? Are you sure that you believe what your heart would want, or what Chaos is telling you?"

He shook his head.

"But you can never answer that, because you can never be without Chaos in your heart, guiding your decisions. It's like have a little voice in your ear, a one sided conscience."

he did not believe the negaverse or the dark senshi were capable of making their own decisions. Corrupt senshi were certainly the same way, and the epitome of that idea. Chaos was a corrupting force, no matter how willing or unwilling the person might have been before it got into their star seed.

"Peace won't happen if no one takes the risk on it. If soldiers don't decide they're tried of fighting for nothing, and following leaders who have their own ideas for the war. You're fed what you need to be a loyal dog in their service, but you are just a statistic waiting to happen. Are you happy to fight, knowing you will just be another to fall with nothing being gained on either side? As long as there is Chaos, there will always be Order. We are awakened to battle you."

He frowned.

"I'm offering you the best way to get rid of the Senshi. And that's to get rid of Chaos. I'm offering you a life, like it was meant to be lived. Not a dog of the negaverse, but a human being of Earth."

Of course, he had no real way to give any of that to anyone, but it was a nice dream. He was being idealistic, he knew that, but the words were just pouring out of him.
PostPosted: Fri Sep 28, 2012 2:44 pm

Dog. That word at least evoked a twitch, distinct distaste, however...

However he wasn't hearing anything other than 'go back to your old life'. His old life which wasn't one he wanted to be part of.

"Like it was meant to be lived? You have no IDEA how my life was supposed to go. How much I lost since you morons started 'awakening', and that was well before I signed on for this. I've been nothing. I've been on the sidelines and I. Don't. Like it. There is a goddamn war on and the only side that's not a side is the damn door mat. At least Zinkenite offered me power enough to change things, from you? Christ the goddamn metaphorical brushes would be better than what you're offering, TinMan!"

He pointed an accusing finger, as he added this. He was no dog, but damn it, he wasn't a door mat either. He wasn't going back to being nothing.

ooc: Realgar has no idea that Knights = Negaverse sans corruption.

I took that as an invitation to enlighten him a little >>

"Then don't go back to your old life! Start a new one! Without chaos! There has to be a way, and you would not lose your strength! You would be like me, a Knight! Don't you understand? Chaos corrupted the power that was sleeping inside you: you could have been anything, but you were stolen from that path by corruption.

Why do you think they use that word? Instead of anything else? Because not even your higher ups will hide what they really are. They thrive on negative energy, they force it into others and twist the good out of pure things. You hate me, but what am I except what you would be if some interference hadn't gotten to you first?"

He wasn't sure about that. Some of it was just his own conjecture, but he felt strong enough in his beliefs to yell them at this relative stranger. He really needed to reign himself in, but whenever he got on his stool it was very hard to get him back down.

But hey, at least they were kind of talking, albeit loudly, and not punching each other in the face.

"I know it's not perfect. I know the world is difficult and there are terrible things out there. But turning to darkness because it took advantage of you, made an offer that seemed like the only one, gave you comfort in a bad time: whatever happened, Chaos is not the only answer. You do not have to make others suffer, because you want your world to be better."

"I want my old life back. I liked my life! I had plans, and goddamn dreams!"
He'd liked it when it was speed thrumming through the frame of a motorcycle that trembled in his grip like a powerful animal, not someone's starseed fluttering like a warm and delicate bird.
His dreams were not delicate, maybe that was part of why he was so damn angry right now. They were fast and loud and and dangerous, and he did not enjoy facing that in the mirror with someone who he wanted to pin down and fill their shorts with cherry bombs.

It is! Sorry for Camelot babble. I'm finding the RP really interesting though!

Camelot watched the Nega and saw a lot of pain on his face, heard it in his tone. He knew it was not just anger at Camelot, though that was certainly present, but anger at his situation. That was not something the knight of Earth could ever really understand, though he would certainly try.

But it was also personal. The reasons each agent of Chaos did what they did, the reasons why they stayed and why they were loyal. It went beyond the chaos' control, though that was inescapable without the aid of purification. Still, they were their own people, with their own histories.

Their own pain.

"I don't know what took your dreams from you, but the Negaverse can't bring them back. Chaos cares little for your dreams, it seeks only its own ends. Whatever power you have, it's derived from a place of darkness. If you want your life back, what you lost, you have to rebuild it. Chaos can't do that for you. Maybe no one can, but I want to help. A lot of us just want to help. There's more than this for you still."

That, at least, he truly believed. Maybe he was painfully optimistic, but there had to be more than war, and playing soldier. For all of them, some how. They just had to find it.
