Zinnia was in the process of hiking up a steep hill. The tall grass tickled her bare legs and she could feel rocks sneaking into her shoes. The sun was setting behind her and seemed to be burning through the back of her shirt and neck. Her coat was folded over one arm. Her face felt hot and was covered in perspiration, but her feet, even inside their socks and shoes, felt very cold.

"Zuu..." Zyk the zubat squeaked in concern, flying back and forth over her head. He swooped low to nuzzle his tired trainer's cheek for perhaps the hundredth time that day before regaining altitude and scanning the area yet again using his echolocation.

"S'okay, Zyk..." Zinnia muttered. She had said the words so often that they had ceased to have meaning.

Dreydonna slowly trailed along behind Zinnia, picking at an imaginary spot on her chin and phasing in and out of visibility simply out of pure boredom. The ghost pokemon had thought that this escape adventure had been highly entertaining at first, but they had been hiking for hours now and the excitement had worn off. Sure, Zin had escaped from the police, but since she hadn't done anything mischievous after that it didn't really count as a prank. Just when her trainer had begun to show some promise, she had let Dreydonna down! Now they were out in the middle of nowhere, so who could Dreydonna cause mischief for? Zyk and Zinnia had begun to catch on to her tricks, and she did not dare try them on the mew.

Shadow flew along at the same level as Zyk. She was also on the alert, and though she could not use echolocation, she had psychic abilities on her side. Her eyes widened for a moment as she sensed someone following her beloved trainer. She swooped lower.

she said directly into Zinnia's mind.

"I'm almost to the top," the young trainer answered stubbornly in between pants for breath.

Shadow rolled her eyes, and in a flash of bright purple light, Zinnia, Zyk, Dreydonna, and Shadow suddenly disappeared and reappeared on top of the hill that they had been ascending. Shadow informed Zinnia,

"Why didn't you just teleport us to the top from the beginning?" Zinnia complained. She found a nice patch of ground and flopped down onto her bottom, wiping her sweaty forehead on her coat. Her breathing and heart rate began to slow. "I'm not afraid of whoever it is, even if they are from Team Rocket. With you three with me, we can do anything." She smiled, more in gratitude than confidence. She had been very grateful at what good sports her team was, even though she had lead them into danger, and now they didn't even have a home.

Zyk landed in his usual place on Zinnia's shoulder and nibbled her ear affectionately. Then he and the other pokemon settled down to wait. A few squeaks in one direction told his ears that Shadow Mew was hovering above his beloved Zin. A few more told him that Dreydonna was floating a little ways ahead, looking very eager for the possibility of a fight. That ghost was a menace as soon as she began to get bored; at least, this time, she would unleash her wrath on the enemy... if an enemy was coming at all.

They waited.

Their mission was simple: capture a little (Rocket) girl gone rouge and bring her back to base. Why this girl was sooo important wasn't made apparent to Clyde. She probably knew too many of the organization's secrets or something like that. Being new to the region and the region's local Rocket branch, Clyde always got stuck with little grunt missions like this.

At least he had Ares and Hestia to help him - they were his tools after all. With Ares' nose and Hestia's fierce nature he was sure he would easily be able to track down and subdue this Zinnia. Why she would want to leave the organization was beyond him. And once again, why the company was even bothering to send people after her was another thing beyond Clyde.

They had been hiking for a few days now. It was times like this when Clyde missed Pandora, his Charizard, the most. Flying would have been so useful, and even that gentle giant could've beaten a little girl and whatever little pokemon she had. But Pandora was dead for all he knew. He couldn't think about her for long.

Dressed in the typical Rocket uniform (minus the hat and giant red R - not good camouflage), Clyde had been trailing the girl from a safe distance, but suddenly Ares' nose said the trail stopped dead in the middle of the hill. Extremely strange. "There's no way," Clyde said. "Go scout ahead, and be stealthy about it," The Rocket commanded. He would have sent Hestia, but the warrior torchic was still too wild and not likely to go up the hill stealthily.

The Vulpix nodded and took to the tall grass as his master and his team mate hid behind a large rock. Following next to the path up the hill, he caught a familiar scent weaving through the tall grass. Somehow the girl had magically gotten to the top of the tall hill without walk it. She must have flown or something, though he smelled no birds. Death, a bat, a shadow, and a girl. There were four of them: one the girl they were after, the other three obviously her pokemon. Ares knew the smell of a Zubat, but not the other two.

Ares went up the hill for a closer look, intrigued by the shadow and death smells. His master would want to know what was up there, though he would not have the words to tell him, it would be best if he saw what was ahead.

Shadow was explaining, It was in her nature to be very quiet, so this was already feeling uncomfortably chatty for her. She sniffed and flicked her ears forward; her sharp eyes had caught a slight movement. Looked like they had been found already... but the human she had sensed was still further down the hill. Was the creature nearby a wild pokemon? Or a spy?

she began, now speaking telepathically only to the gengar.

"(I know. It's mine,)" Dreydonna responded in Pokemon, a perfectly horrific grin splitting her features. The gaseous ghost spread out into a purplish haze, and then into nothing. She spread herself invisibly around Ares, creating a ghostly chill around the Vulpix's body. She began to cackle, and the grass blew around Ares's feet, though there was no breeze. "(Get out... GET OUT!)" Dreydonna wailed.

"Geez, what's going on over there?" Zinnia wondered, now petting Zyk. "She's being creepy again... I hope that that is the bad guy she's doing that to, and not an innocent bystander." She tried to sit up higher to see who the poltergeist was after, but the slope of the hill and the tall grass screened her view.

Ares' hackles rose, as well as most of his fur, in fear. He immediately flattened himself to the ground, ears pinned back against his head and all eight tails flared out behind him. He growled at the wind, "Who is there?" the vuplix questioned, trying to keep his voice low. The other voice did not scare him nearly as much as the chilling wind had. A ghost, the smell of death. The little girl definitely had some sort of ghost pokemon. He could definitely defeat a ghost pokemon...But there was no use fighting just yet.

The vulpix's ears perked up at the sound of movement at the top of the hill. Something else was there. Luckily, he was downwind, and the scent...Human and zubat, swirled together. He severely doubted the human girl they were after was part zubat so he knew that must be the girl. Stealthily, he crept further up the hill, just enough to get his head over, to get a look her and the rest of her team.

Shadow Mew had to suppress a sigh. It seemed that although the vulpix had been startled by Dreydonna's shenanigans, they alone would not be enough. She still hoped to avoid a battle, though, and a battle with a pokemon without its trainer was simply unfair.

So she flew suddenly at Ares, halting just outside his range of attack. Her eyes glowed brilliantly purple and she stood as if frozen in mid-air, not a single hair moving. She posed quite a frightening image. She said in Ares's mind.

Not to be outdone, Dreydonna re-formed herself and stood behind Ares, her own eyes glinting maliciously. Her maniacal grin revealed many large, sharp teeth and she did her best to loom threateningly.

Zinnia fell silent, holding her zubat in her arms. If even Shadow Mew was trying to scare off the stranger, they must have been from Team Rocket. Her heart jumped into her throat, but a few deep breaths hardened her will. She wouldn't back down from a direct confrontation. Team Rocket had to learn one way or another to leave her be. Her heart warmed, however, that her pokemon would work so hard to protect her when it was her own fault that they had gotten into such a mess.

The Vulpix should have turned and fled by now, but he was on a mission for his master, and as long as he lived, he would never fail his master. He got a glimpse of the girl they were after before a frightening shadow with glowing purple eyes loomed before him. As if that alone wasn't enough, the shadow-smelling thing spoke directly into his mind. He had never felt so powerless and afraid...But at least now he knew what they were up against.

Ares let out a fearful whine before he turned and ran through the frightening specter from before. The vulpix flew back down the hill as fast as his paws could carry him. He slowed to a trot then to a lurk as he found his master in his hiding place. The fox pokemon conveyed to his master as best he could that what they were after was up there, but it was scary.

Clyde got the message from his vulpix's whimpers and points to the top of the hill. Something up there had spooked him, but the girl was there too. Had some monster found her before he did, or did she have a team of ghost pokemon? Only one way to find out. He released Hestia from her pokeball, "You need to be as quiet as possible, alright?" He spoke in a hushed tone. The Torchic seemed to listen for once.

"We're going up the hill. The girl is there, as well as something we may need to fight. You can't rush in. We may be able to take her by surprise." Hestia nodded, understanding the human. Her feathers were on edge, there was something powerful up on the hill. She could feel it.

"Let's go," The Rocket carefully got up from behind the boulder and made his way up the hill through the shadows as quietly and quickly as possible. His team followed behind him.

Once they neared the top, they stopped behind another large (and convient) rock. "On my signal, Ares, Hestia, get out there and attack."

Zyk's sharp ears perked forward, and though all he could 'see' with his echolocation was a large rock, he knew that there was someone whispering and hiding behind it. He let out a strange hissing noise and freed himself from his trainer's grasp, springing into the air and hovering, ready for a fight.

Those who knew Shadow would say she was being downright talkative now, in this time of need.

Zinnia stood up, dusted off her grassy bottom, and nodded. "I'm ready," she said confidently, resting her hand on Zyk's wing as he landed once again on her shoulder. "Come out! I know you're there!" she said loudly. "I'm Zin Hayes, and I left Team Rocket! Come on and battle me, if you dare!"

((Rolling to see who goes first? Also, are we having the pokemon battle each other at the same time or switching out after fainting?))

"Now!" Clyde said at a normal tone. His pokemon darted out from behind the rock, to face a Gengar and a Mew. Hestia was started by the Mew. "A shadow devil," she hissed at it. The vulpix growled at Dreydonna, "And a demon,"

The Rocket returned the girl's introduction with his own, "I'm Clyde, and I'm here to drag you back to headquarters whether you like it or not!"

((AT THE SAME TIME!!! >8D Just select to roll two dice instead of one. The first die will be for the pokemon who attacks first, and the second for the pokemon who attacks second. Just make sure you don't change the order. I'm going to assign Shadow Mew as the first die and Dreydonna as the second.))

Shadow Mew frowned at the accusation of being a 'shadow devil,' but otherwise paid it no heed. She drifted back a bit as the other pokemon advanced and floated calmly, waiting for Zinnia's command.

Dreydonna cackled heartily at her label of 'demon.' She clearly loved it. She hunched forward slightly and let her long, slippery tongue hang out of her mouth as she prepared for what was sure to be an amusing battle.

"This is your last warning," Zinnia said sternly.

((Woot, that's what I thought, just wanted to make sure :3
Ares will be the first dice for me, and Hestia the second ^^ ))

Clyde laughed, a warning? She was just a little girl with a Zubat, a Gengar, and...A Shadow Mew. Oh. The Rocket suddenly realized he may be a little in over his head here. No wonder the organization wanted her back. It wasn't so much about her, maybe she knew some secrets, but A SHADOW MEW? That thing was likely incredibly powerful, though Clyde's cockiness overpowered the little logical voice in his head that said 'a little vulpix and torchic can't defeat that!'

Instead of doing the smart thing and backing off, he called, "Burn them both! Ares use Heat Wave on the Gengar, Hestia the same on the Mew!"

The Vulpix spat fire at the demon ghost, whipping his multipul tails around to fling the fire at her. Hestia did likewise and launched a wave of blue fire at the shadow devil. This was going to be quite a battle, she thought. And she liked it.

Shadow was able to dodge the burn, but Dreydonna was not; she flinched but did not back down.

"Shadow, use Ancientpower on the torchic! Dreydonna, use Ominous Wind on the vulpix!" This was pretty intense; she had never battled like this before. Zyk's fur stood on end on her shoulder, longing to join the fight, but Zinnia would battle fairly; two on two, and no more.

Shadow Mew's eyes glowed brilliantly for a second, and then the ground beneath Hestia's feet burst apart, sending rocks flying. Out of the corner of her eye, the mew saw Dreydonna summon a chilling wind that was sure to cool down the firey vulpix.

Hestia twirled in the air to dodge the majority of the sudden falling rocks, but was still struck by a medium-sized pack of earth. Ares was not nearly as lucky when dodging Dreydonna's Ominous Wind. The vulpix was knocked into the dust by the gale of dark and ghostly force.

Had Clyde a third pokemon he wouldn't have been so honorable. He had never fought like this before either, but it was about time, and the thrill was exhilarating. A Shadow Mew and a powerful Gengar, very exciting, even if their trainer was a blue haired girl.

"Ares use Hex on the Gengar, and Hestia use Hone Claws, get your attack up!" The Rocket was sticking to his strategy, and hopefully it would work. He didn't want to go back to the base empty handed, with his tail between his legs all because of a little girl.

The Vulpix sprang back on his paws as quick as he could and bounded forward at the Gengar with glowing eyes. He threw curse-like Ghost energy at her. The Torchic stayed back while her talons gleamed with dark energy.

Zinnia grit her teeth; Dreydonna had taken a lot of damage from the combination of her burn and the Hex attack. But now it looked like the burn had worn off, and the ghost was far from finished. But she had to think up a strategy, and quickly.

"Shadow, use Ancientpower again on the torchic. 'Donna, use Facade on the same one!"

Using the pain of her fading burn as a source of power, Dreydonna lashed out on the torchic. At the same moment, rocks burst forth from beneath the small bird's feet, but they all seemed to mysteriously miss the ghost through the ghost.

Hestia cried out a little 'chic!' as she was pummeled to the ground by the two powerful attacks. She rolled a little in the dust before regaining her footing and darting back to the battle. A warrior must never tire in the heat of battle! She was getting weary, but she would fight on.

"Ares, Heat Wave again on the ghost, Hestia attack the Shadow Mew with Shadow Claw!" Even if the Heat Wave hit and gave the Gengar strength for more Facades, it hurt her more than helped.

The vulpix whipped his tails again and sent a gust of hot air at Dreydonna. He really hoped the burn would stick, though he didn't want to add power to her Facade either. Hestia charged forward, leaping and spinning at the Shadow Mew with equally Shadowy talons.
