Ok so Anime Expo 2012 was my first ever con and my first time cosplaying. Picking my cosplay was a bit difficult because it was so last minute[So it kind of sucks] but here are a few of my friends and ofcource yours truly in cosplay. My friend Sarrah[A.K.A. Ciel] Two super cool grels that i met plus Ciel And me in my Mana[yu-gi-oh] cosplay. I think this one sucks, but now that i know what to expect and i have more time on my hands,my cosplays in the future are going to be amazing. Haha

Ok I automatically became a big fan of yours. I absolutely love your cosplay dear,it's brilliant! I read that you wanted to do something from soul calibur and that really caught my eye. Next year I wanted to be ivy,but since I'm still a beginner,I wasn't sure if I should or if I could pull it off,so I'm saving that for later Haha.

Thank you! biggrin I love love love Soul Calibur, I really hope my costume finishes out well (so far so good, but only 2 weeks left, AUGH!). My group is going to consist of: Me, as Hilde SC4 Nightmare SC4 Ashlotte SC4 2p Yoshimitsu SC4 Raphael (maybe) and SC5 Astaroth so it's going to be pretty epic, I think! Totally jump in and do Ivy!! I think that's how people get good, IMO, by taking on something totally new and challenging! I almost did SC5 Ivy instead of Hilde, but I ended up deciding I'd probably want to wear pants. XD

Okay, really crappy photo, comes from having your thirteen year old brother as your photographer lol, of me in my Fem!Gary Oak cosplay. No, I am not wearing a wig nor is my hair that short. I had it tied back in a sorta spikey ponytail thing but my arm got in the way...This was a really easy basically 'out of my closet' kinda cosplay. I wanna do more complicated things in the future though...

Simple out of the closet cosplay is a good starting point though, and we have all had ours too I'm sure. Speaking of cosplay starts, here is mine. Bankai Ichigo(Bleach) This one was entirely internet bought(something that I never intend to do again) It was an alright costume for how much I spent for it, and the bankai bokken I bought for my prop was really nice too... colored hairspray and the fact that my hair was too long were the major banes of this cosplay though. The hair color was an absolutely nightmare that flaked off and dyed everything it touched orange(especially noticeable on my white undershirt and the white of the collar of the jacket. Light Yagami(Death Note) This one is a perfect example of closet cosplay, and my again too long and poor attempt at styling my hair(one of these days I will learn to get wigs) The jacket bought for like $5 at a thrift store, the rest was stuff I already owned. The Death Note was probably the best thing about this cosplay, but still a very simple prop to make. Genesis Rhapsodos(FFVII : Crisis Core) Another internet bought costume, pretty good for the price. What I am most proud about for this costume is the two props that I had. One was the Loveless book which my wife made for me(I can post pictures if you want to see) and the other is well obviously the sword that I am holding. It took my brother and I a solid month of effort to get the sword done in time for the convention, but it was so worth it and it turned out incredible. This is my favorite cosplay that I have done. Luxord(Kingdom Hearts II) Last cosplay for now, this one was primarily thanks to my friend who let me borrow his Organization XIII Coat though I eventually intend to make one of my own. The rest was truly all thanks to my wife, she made the oversized card, the die, and the necklace and pull ties for the coat and did a fantastic job with them. Luxord was fun, but not really my best or my proudest cosplay because I did so little for it, though a lot of the ideas for the execution were mine.

Here's a sneak peek at my Hilde von Krone costume that's about 90% ready (which is good, since we're leaving for GenCon tomorrow!). Helmet Armor pile The majority of the outfit is built out of vacuum-formed styrene.

Vacuum formed eh? Very interesting. I was curious as to what your armor making techniques were. What thickness of styrene do you use?
BTW that all looks incredible. I look forward to seeing finished pictures.

Jeimuzu Kuro Vacuum formed eh? Very interesting. I was curious as to what your armor making techniques were. What thickness of styrene do you use? BTW that all looks incredible. I look forward to seeing finished pictures. Thanks! I did a lot of different things to build up the vacuum form blanks, I learned a TON about how best to go about it. My basic technique was to make body forms of myself using water-soluble packing tape, then build the various pieces up with durable, relatively heat-resistant materials like Bondo, paper clay, and craft foam, plus a lot of vinyl tubing for trim. I definitely recommend bulking out the backs of vacuum form blanks more than it seems necessary (I used Bondo) to avoid collapsing the mold, which is the worst ever! Bad pull + ruined blank = bad time. I think my next plastic-based project will go so much easier! For the plastic, I used 1/16th high impact styrene sheet from widgetworksunlimited.com for the majority of the armor where it would need to take a beating (breastplate, legs, etc.) and 1/32 from both widgetworks and warmplastic.com for the detailed pieces like the visors, wolf shoulderpads, and belt buckle, but I sloshed liquid resin on the inside of those pieces to reinforce them since the styrene is definitely a bit prone to tearing. One challenge I had was that the thicker plastic that I bought didn't fit my vacuum former quite right--it was 12x18 where my frame was made to fit 12x18 3/4, which turned out to be actually a huge problem when the sagging plastic pulled out of the frame and wrecked the suction. I ended up having a friend of mine who works at a hardware store make me a new set of frames that was 3/4" smaller, which holds the plastic well but is harder to fit on the vacuum box. I sort of feel like I could vacuum form pretty much anything at this point, after months and months of experimentation!

... Oro? @_@ Sorry to say that not a lot of that translated from the foreign language at 6 in the morning XD I will take your word for it though, if I try vacuum forming in the future, make sure the material that I'm using fits the frame size.
