Lesedi was deeply regretting taking pity on a leopon girl who he’d claimed as his first thrall. It had been a spur of the moment thing that he’d done without really considering the consequences and while he probably wouldn’t have changed his mind if he had known how much his life would change, he definitely needed to get out of HIS den where SHE was and find some much deserved solitude near the prides borders. The sky was dark and grey near the rocky beach and the wind was so loud that it completely drowned his thoughts… just what he wanted. He kept walking near the water’s edge, wary eyes occasionally glancing around for any signs of the mysterious mermaids his Reaver friends spoke of. He barely noticed when he crossed the pride’s borders though one or more Reavers guarding the borders probably noticed him in the distance.

A light blue female crept through the scant cover, a wince crossing her face at the howling of the wind. This was not the most ideal place to hunt, but she felt herself slowly growing desperate. This area wasn't good hunting even on the best day, and it had been long enough since her last meal that her stomach felt like something was clawing her from the inside out.... so when she'd scared up a rabbit, she'd taken after it without a thought, chasing it towards the coastline and into the wind.

It had to be close, she just knew it. It couldn't have gotten far in this, not without alerting her to its movements. If she could just find it, she could finally assuage her growling stomach.

Lesedi tensed up when he spotted a small shape darting through the rocky landscape. It ran right into the lion’s front legs and “hid” there for a few seconds until the creature realized that it hadn’t really found an ideal hiding spot. Lesedi actually chuckled, amused by the ridiculous situation as the rabbit let out a little hiss-like sound before darting off again. The Reaver didn’t bother to follow after the rabbit as he was quite full and in no mood for a hunt but he did look around to see if he could spot the initial cause of the rabbit’s distress.

And find it, he did. There was a lioness ahead, blue as the calm sea. One of the famous mermaids, perhaps? He’d heard no bewitching chants and her pale coat didn’t appear to be wet either – and mermaids were supposed to come from the sea, right?

“You are approaching the borders of the Myrsky Syntynyt, home of the Stormborn. Are you a challenger looking to join our ranks?” he spoke as he drew closer to the lioness. She might not be a mermaid but she definitely looked like thrall material. If he was lucky and careful, he might capture her as a gift to his crafter friend. Val could surely use a few extra paws now that she had five little runts to care for. Still, it would be bad form to attack a challenger who was looking for a patrolling Reaver so it was best to cover his bases first.

Yara leaped after the rabbit, but everything came to an abrupt, screeching halt when the form she discovered beyond the grass was not a small brown rabbit... but a large gold lion.

Her landing was a little jarring as she pulled her mad dash to a halt, her ears pressing back against her head as she gave the lone male a look from toes to ears, her caramel eyes widening. She'd known there was a pride along the shore, but she'd always been careful to avoid them, hearing tales about their war-like nature and the way they took in lions from other places to serve them.

"What? Um... no. No, I was just hunting that rabbit. I was hungry, you see. That's all... I didn't mean to intrude on your pride's lands." Yara stammered, shuffling her front paws against the rocky ground. She took a cautious step backwards, ducking her head as she did so in an effort to maybe stave off any anger he might feel about her trespassing. Some prides were particular about hunting in their lands, this one was most likely no different. If she was lucky, maybe she could get away with nothing more than a scolding.

"I'll just take myself back where I came from." She said with a nervous chuckle, flicking her tail as it curled around her back paws. "No worries, I won't be trespassing again."

Umpf, hunting a rabbit. That brought forth a rather unpleasant memory. It had only been a few days before that Lesedi had come home to his thrall hoping she’d been successful in her hunting efforts while he was out training. She had indeed but instead of a proper meal, that darn leopon had proudly showed him a measly rabbit. His meal after a long day of work. A rabbit.

Back to reality. The lioness seemed perfect for a thrall gift. She seemed slightly defensive which meant she wasn’t stupid. Hopefully she was a better hunter than she was letting on. It wouldn’t do to give Tal a useless thrall, after all. Lesedi had been learning much from older Reavers on ways to subdue a thrall. So far the most effective seemed to be to knock the thrall senseless, overpower them with brute force and then either drag the body or threaten the unfortunate feline into accompanying the Reaver. But Lesedi didn’t want to offer Tal a bloody and dirty mess of a thrall and he wasn’t much for pointless violence anyway.

“I’m taking you back to my pride.” He stated with a very obvious disregard for her opinion on the matter, taking a few quick steps towards the lioness, ready to sprint or tackle her should she decide to bolt. Lesedi had never been one to trick thralls into following him. “I’d rather not hurt you but I’m in a foul mood and I will if I have to. Start moving.”

"What? Wait!" She gasped out as he started towards her, sidling around to try and put space back between them. "Please, I'm sorry... I didn't know I was so close to the pride. I didn't mean any harm. Just let me go and I swear, I will never ever enter your pride's lands again."

Eyes wide, Yara slunk backwards for every step he took, afraid to break and run for fear he would pounce on her in the split second it would take her to turn. She babbled a little, trying to stave off what she saw as righteous anger over her trespassing.

Her mind reeled as she tried to decide what to do. Her panic made her thoughts blank and she could do little more than back away. See, this was why she lived alone, why she avoided groups or even single males. Being slighter of frame, she could never hope to win out in a fight and she was not one to enjoy being overpowered.

"Please... Please just let me go." She said.

Bluefire Dragonz
Sorry Blue! I just realized that if I'd strated this in the pride's subforum, it could've doubled as a JRP! ^.^'

Lesedi appraised the blue lioness in silence, making a quick estimate of her strength and speed based on the way she moved away from him. She didn’t look like a fighter and she was saying a lot of things that the Reaver was barely acknowledging. He had little interest in the pleading and bargaining words of Thralls. They all sounded too similar to his ears.

“No.”
He was not devoid of empathy and, as such, Lesedi did feel a small amount of pity for the lioness on a – very – deep level but the lion felt practically no guilt at the idea of taking away the freedom that she was too weak to protect. While some Thralls were forcefully pulled into a life of pure misery, Lesedi was certain that his friend would be a fair and most likely kind master...uhm... mistress. His voise rose easily against the howling wind. “I’m taking you as a Thrall. That means a slave. I’m giving you one more chance to walk in the right direction before I knock you out.” His intentions out in the open, Lesedi expected her to either bolt or attempt to fight at this point. He was ready for both but he still carried a small hope that she’d simply just give in and follow him. An unlikely outcome but one that would allow him to avoid any serious violence. There was little honor in beating someone who was so obviously weaker and he suspected Tal might not appreciate a gift that was wrapped in blood.

Panic flooded Yara when he told her she was to be a slave. All her worst fears were wrapped up in that single word. She'd heard horror stories of life as a slave, from others who had seen it or even, once, one who had been such, but escaped. It was like she had fallen, awake, into a living nightmare. With the harsh landscape, howling wind and this single lion looming over her, pronouncing her fate...

She did the only thing she could think to do at this point, and it was really more instinct than thought; the sea-blue lioness turned and bolted as fast as her paws would take her. She was not a fighter, she had never felt strong or capable... merely adequate. She was not equipped to handle this situation, so she fled from it. Desperation gave her paws wings, her ears flat to her head and her tail whipping behind her as she ran.

All she could think was that she desperately wished her parents were here to save her, even if she had long since out-grown the need for their care. In this short moment, she felt like a cub again, scared of a monster behind a bush in the night.

Her reaction might’ve been expected but it was still rather annoying as far as the Reaver was concerned even if a good run might be just what his tense muscles were asking for. With a growl full of menace, he sprang forward at the exact same time as she turned which gave him the slightest advantage. She wasn’t slow - she would make a decent huntress for Tal, he hoped – but neither was Lesedi and he managed to keep the distance between them from increasing. Used to the rocky terrain, the Reaver pushed forward and attempted to unbalance the lioness with a blow to her back legs much like the way he did when trying to make a prey beast trip during a hunt. If it worked, he planned on giving her a good smack on the head for good measure. She wasn’t tiny and her claws were capable of dealing great amount of damage especially in her defensive state and Lesedi was fully prepared to use his if necessary next.

The blow to her back legs seemed inevitable and it sent a surge of terror through Yara as she felt herself falling. She let out a cry of fear as she fell, twisting to put her back to the ground and her paws between herself and her attacker as she curled to make herself as small as possible.

The blows she received seemed to take all of the fight out of her and she retreated inward defensively, her paws raised to protect her head. There was a sort of hopelessness to her now that she knew running wouldn't work, nor would pleading with him. It didn't take away the fear, which one could see in the way she trembled, but it made her far more inclined to just do as he said and hope he wouldn't hurt her. Being a slave seemed a far better choice than being slaughtered here like some prey beast.

Still growling, Lesedi circled the cowed shape of the lioness with heavy steps but he did not touch her again. There were Reavers that liked to draw out their Thrall captures but for Lesedi it was simply a means to an end – even if he did take a good amount of pleasure in being a figure that commanded fear and respect. He felt triumphant and for a moment he indulged on simple idea that he might keep her for himself. She was bound to be more useful that that darn leopon, surely. She could teach Minipia how to hunt at the very least. He scowled as he pictured his den with the two of them, watching him, talking behind his back… no, he definitely didn’t want that.

“Get up. And start walking.” He said between heavy breaths, the effort of the little sprint evident in his voice. Feeling rather accomplished, he allowed some humor to slip into his tone. “I hope you like cubs. You’ll have your paws full with five from now on.” He was certain Tal would gladly accept his gift.

Yara rolled to her paws, keeping her head down and her ears back, her tail tucked between her legs. Keeping her eyes on the ground save for a furtive glance up at her new capture, the blue lioness slunk in the direction he indicated.

His attempt at humor was lost on her and she could only wonder on the turn her life had taken and what her fate would turn out to be.
