User ImageName: Portia J. Wynne

Nickname:

Age: 24

Birthday: 26th of January

Sign: Aquarius

Gemstone: Garnet

Blood Type: B

Fav. Food: Pizza is a girl's best friend!

Hated Food: Anything involving anchovies. Portia once got the wrong pizza delivered to her door and just decided to roll with it anyway; this turned out to be a Bad Idea. She spent the rest of the night puking in her toilet. Never again.

Occupation: Full-time employee at TGI Thaidays, a downtown restaurant with an Asian theme and arcade games.

Hobbies: Knitting -- Portia knits. A lot. Not your regular ol' grandma knitting either, no, she has a thing for contemporary scandinavian knitting - the awesome kind of knitting, she calls it. Her family just looks baffled. Shawls, blouses, hats, Portia will knit you pretty much anything. Except socks. She really, really hates knitting socks. She actually stumbled upon knitting in sixth grade sewing class, and instantly fell in love. It's been a lifelong romance ever since - before taking her interest to the internet she usually knitted the clunky, old-fashioned sweaters and scarves found in cheap magazines mainly meant for elderly women. The internet, however, opened her eyes to a while new genre of knitting; Scandinavian. More sleek, more modern, simpler designs with an edge of fun. Not to mention the smaller, less clunky needles and the not so synthetic yarn, when compared to their American counterpart. Portia was caught, hook, line and sinker.

Running -- She often takes runs around DC in the evening. Really, it's the best time for it; you only get this lack of pedestrians twice a day, and Portia is not going to get up early. For anything. Period. She once tried running competitively in high school but quickly figured out that running with other people just wasn't as fun; Portia relishes the quiet of her runs, the feeling of flying through the streets. She does not relish someone chattering away at a hundred miles an hour next to her. Much for the same reason, she avoids marathons and the like. There might be a running partner out there for her, but Portia hasn't yet met them. Running is one of the few exceptions to her laziness - the rush of it is worth the work.

Virtues:
Laid back -- As a easygoing sort of person, Portia isn't the type to get bent out of shape over other people or their opinions about her. She'll go with the flow in most situations and play it by ear in the rest. And when that doesn't work, well... she'll figure it out as she goes. She rarely plans, because what are plans other than something to slow you down? It's hard to get into an argument with her because when things start going south, Portia just lets it flow in one ear and out the other and ignores the argument - or, should the other person get too rowdy, she leaves. There's very little that she's actually willing to get in a fight for, and those things can all be counted on one hand.

Self-Assured -- Portia is pretty confident in herself; she doesn't need anyone else's opinion on her or her life because really, they're not the one living it. She'll nod and smile and look nice as you tell her that you think she's doing something wrong, but in the end, it's her own opinion that counts to her. Insecurity just isn't in her vocabulary; because whatever may happen, Portia is always sure she knows best. And should she occasionally do something that doesn't turn out so nicely, well, there's no use crying over spilt milk.

Sociable -- Portia likes meeting new people and making friends - despite her unmotivated ways, she's genuinely interested in other people and what they have to say. As such, she can easily chat an afternoon away with an interesting stranger, strike up a conversation on an obscure topic with a customer at work or be persuaded to have a sleepover with a friend. Generally fairly easy to lure into conversation, she enjoys hearing other people's opinions and their points of view, even if she doesn't always share them.

Flaws:
Unmotivated -- Nothing really motivates Portia in the long haul. Not education, not a good career, nothing. Oh sure, she'll knit and she'll run, but anything more substantial than that and she bails. She lacks long-term ambitions - Portia's perfectly satisfied with settling for less, both in her professional and private life, as long as it means less work for her in the end.

Messy -- Everything Portia does is sloppy - she's never really put her best into something, and that includes aspects of her personal life. Her apartment is a mess - who wants to waste time cleaning when you could be out taking a brisk run? -, her budget-keeping skills are non-existant (technically useless anyway, considering she spends most of her paycheck as soon as she gets it) and her concept of time is, well, who needs a watch anyway? There's no great hurry in life and it's not unusual for Portia to arrive half an hour late or more to a get-together. She manages to keep (somewhat) on time for her job, but that's about as much effort as she's willing to extend for anything. She once considered getting a cat but quickly realised that it was unlikely she'd be able to care for it very well.

Indifferent -- As much as Portia likes people, she doesn't exactly go out of her way to be helpful to others. In fact, she doesn't go out of her way at all. Portia would leave a person who'd fallen badly to get up by themself, unless she was cajoled, threatened or persuaded otherwise. And it'd have to be some pretty good persuading - Portia just doesn't care that much about other people's troubles. Oh, she'll listen to them, but she'll very rarely take action; her general outlook on life is that everyone needs to handle themselves and their own problems, and that helping people is just doing them a disservice in the long run. This applies to both friends and strangers - the only thing that can really motivate Portia to help someone out is sexual assault of any kind, as well as violence towards children. That just does not fly.

PHYSICAL DESCRIPTION

Eyes: Hazel, slanted.

Hair: Black with a messy side braid. Arrange her bangs as you wish. <3

Face: Obvious turkish ancestry and a prominent nose. Nose-ring in her left nostril and a crooked smile.

Clothing Style: Inordinately fond of low back sweaters, usually paired with a pair of low-rise skinny jeans and high-heeled boots. Bodytype is tall and lean, with an hourglass shape. For exact clothing ref, please see this. Colours are up to the colourist!

User ImageKnight Title: Befana Page of Uranus

Challenge: I'll sweep you away!

Uniform: Please see this for her uniform!
For colours, here's the Uranus swatch. I'd like if the main colours were the two blues, but if you think something else looks better, go wild! I trust you~
Accessories can be silver/gold/another metal and whatever colour stones you prefer!
Top -- I'd like it if the sleeveless vest was at least slightly sheer, but it's up to the colourist.
Bottoms -- See-through harem pants, shorts underneath. Up to the colourist whether the sash is slightly see-through as well or not.
Gloves --
Belt --
Shoes --
Shoulders --
Accessories --
Weapon -- Page: A ratty looking broom (along the lines of this). You could probably give someone a good smack with it, but that's about it.

Squire: Better looking broom - the bristles are now more even, the broom looks more functional and the wood has gotten a nice polish.
Magic: Wherever Befana sweeps, sparkly dust appears. If she sweeps the dust onto someone, that person gets a moderate boost in bravery and as a consequence their physical attacks do +25% more damage while under Befana's magic. It is possible for an enemy to intercept the dust and gain the boost instead. Befana has a total time pool of one minute for this boost, and can choose to spread this out over multiple uses in one battle or use it all in one go.

Knight: Fancy looking broom. The broom now has ornate golden symbols down the handle and the bristles are as nice as they can get.
Magic: Wherever Befana sweeps, sparkly dust appears. If she sweeps the dust onto someone, that person gets a moderate boost in bravery and as a consequence their physical attacks do +50% more damage while under Befana's magic. It is possible for an enemy to intercept the dust and gain the boost instead. Befana has a total time pool of one minute for this boost, and can choose to spread this out over multiple uses in one battle or use it all in one go.

Updated w. reference pictures by the fantastic endejester; removed a virtue (Friendly) to make virtues/flaws equal; revised civ section text slightly.

Currently working on -- civ section personality, crits would be much appreciated! (I don't mind a crit exchange either <33)

Permission gotten from culicover, Portia Hathaway's owner, to use the name Portia. heart

-rubs hands together-

First off, the art is gooorgeous. You're so lucky having beautiful Ende-arts! <3

Knitting is a really interesting hobby, and one I haven't seen much of before! I like that you've got her specialising in a certain type, but how did she get into it? Did a friend mention it to her, or did she stumble upon it online? If you could go into a bit of detail on how the Scandinavian knitting is different, that would be useful too (I didn't have a clue until I googled it!). A bit more information on her running hobby would be good too - expand on how good she is at it. Does she prefer running alone, if so why? Does she run to keep healthy, because she enjoys it, both?

I like the virtues and flaws you have set out for Portia, and what you have already seems pretty solid. However, she still seems fairly flat to me, personality-wise, and there are a lot of traits you haven't addressed - whilst the profile does state that two is the minimum for virtues/flaws, most people aim for three or four as it gives a lot more dimension and information about their character. For instance, I've gotten the impression that Portia's lazy and confident, and that's...about it, in a nutshell, and there must be more to her than that.

She may be self-assured, but is she still friendly? Or doesn't she bother with any of that making-friends-crap? Is she stubborn, generous, childish, cynical, sarcastic, cocky, selfish, fierce, snappy, intelligent, stylish, rude? Going back to the running hobby, something must motivate her to go running a few times a week (I know I struggle with exercise!), so is health/sport an exception? Running is quite a lot of work, so does it just come easily to her or is she willing to put the work in just this once - why just this once? Sorry if this is all a bit scattered, I'm just trying to show that you could expand a lot more and give yourself and other people a lot more to play with in roleplays! C:

I'm struggling to find where you've gotten the name Befana from. The only thing I can find is an Italian folklore, and wonders need to be a physical location (mythological or real!). You'll either need to provide a link or choose another name, sorry! :< You also need to state the planet that she serves (unless I'm totally blind and am just missing it?)

I like the broom idea a lot! C: It's a neat idea, and the magic works with it well. For her squire stage, you'll need to state how many times she can use her magic in a battle before she needs to recharge.

I hope this has been helpful! C: Sorry if I've been scattered or sounded harsh, I didn't mean to! Overall I looooove Portia, she seems like so much fun to roleplay with! Good luck! <3

fffff Kairi, I STILL LOVE YOUR CRIT OK (I know we've talked about it) but it makes me flail-happy just reading it again I AM A SAD, SAD PERSON OK and it gave me lots of awesome ideas. <333

Revised Knitting and Running hobbies to add more description, added Friendly virtue and Indifferent flaw, revised Unmotivated slightly. Added link for the name Befana and the usage limit to her Squire magic.

Still thinking on a possible fourth virtue and flaw!

Another knight! -has all the love for knights-

It looks pretty solid but it seems like her hobbies are all pretty singular. Hobbies are sort of the basis for interaction in Moon Shop so when you write them up you kind of have to keep in mind how these will help you introduce your characters to others.

For her knitting: does she have a knitting circle she participates in? Does she try to sell her creations at art shows? Is she active on knitting/sewing web forums? Anything you can add to help give her a point to meet others by is a good thing.

And I'd look into having at least 1 more social hobby if it were me.

These are, of course, only suggestions and are in no way concrete.

Yay another knight-lover <3333!

I can see what you mean! Portia isn't actually into any of that stuff; it just doesn't fit her character for where I want her to be when I start RPing. She does, however, bring her knitting with her everywhere and knitting in public is a pretty good way to attract friendly chatters, actually. So that's what I'm going with for the beginning! Later on I'd like her to be more involved, take on more hobbies - right now I've chosen to only give her two because it just wouldn't fit her to have a ton, but I'm planning as she develops that she'll discover more and more creative things she enjoys (embroidery, weaving, all sorts of things) and get more involved with the social aspect.

Does that make sense, haha? She's a bit of a canvas in the way that I'm planning her development, but that also means she has to have a starting point, and this would be it. <3 But thank you very much for your crit, it was awesome to get some more feedback on her! heart

I bet that's fine. Keep in mind as she changes there's a section where you can update her profile because characters sometimes grow out of habits or pick up new ones. All in all, though, I'm looking forward to meeting her. Shalott would love to take her under her wing. Being new the the fold can be confusing and scary.

Haha, that would be awesome - or at least I think it would be, Befana might try and resist a bit to being under anyone's wing, but that just adds a bit of flavour. c; Thank you again! heart

fffffff I know you asked me to look at Portia again a long long time ago, I'm sorry! BUT I'M HERE NOW!

I love the revisions on her hobbies! In the running section I think you need to have another read-over and check some of the grammar because there are a few mistakes, but other than that the hobbies are A-OK!

There are a few more grammar mistakes in her personality still, so just have a read through to double check your is/are's etc, if you're confused hit me up on AIM again and I'm happy to go through it with you! :> With her laid back trait and arguments, you say she lets it flow in one ear and out the other - do you mean she just ignores them, or she agrees with them just to shut them up?

With her being friendly but unmotivated - does this mean other people might struggle to strike up a conversation with her? Does she actually care about her friends enough to help them out, or are they just there for when she herself is bored and fancies being entertained? I think I understand what you mean with the two of them with what you've said in the indifferent flaw and they can work together, but I'd like to see a little more expansion and explanation to help them flow together :>

Everything else is lovely! <3 I love Portia/Befana (you know that!) and I think she's nearly there, just a few little tweaks to get her perfect! C:

New art yay! <3333 Also changed her Squire magic to a different effect, and pondering whether to keep Knight magic as-is or instead make it an upgrade of Squire ability.

Civilian~

Hobbies: I think the two you have are amazing and well-written. I have zero concerns about either of them! I do however want to know if she has any hobbies that can involve other people. You flat out say that she runs by herself and typically knitting is something you do on your own. What does she do for a social life or to enjoy the company of others? This particularly concerns me because one of her virtues is that she's socialable!

Virtues and Flaws are perfect!<3

-----

Powered~

I love love loooove her outfit. Her ref art is fabulous! I think as long as the artist includes a few more Uranus symbols here and there it'll be golden.

Attacks look great to me!

Once we get her hobbies sorted, you'll be ready for a trial stamp. Just quote me with any questions/concerns or if you make any adjustments.

Thank you so much for the crit, Sy! <3333 At the moment she doesn't have any hobbies involving other people, but I'm planning to change this in the longterm! It'd basically be a personal plot for her - getting involved with other local knitters, maybe even finding a tolerable running partner and finding more hobbies she likes. Right now her social life isn't involved with either of her hobbies, but she still goes out to drink with her friends, meets up with people to hang out, normal stuff like that!

EDIT: Changed her age from 22 to 24, just something I thought I'd already done but apparently forgotten.
