Candace yawned and stretched her arms up, stretching out her back out a bit with a strained groan. She had slept in this morning, so this training course was also her way of making up for that. Might as well do it with the new Mist, gets to know him, and fix whatever s**t Rep had told the poor guy. He seemed nice enough so far.

She checked her phone for the time, yawning again and fixing her coat. "I should've had my coffee first." She mumbled, bending down to stretch out her legs before the new trainee arrived. Candace wanted to be ready when he got here. Ready and awake.

The awake part was a little harder to manage right this second.

Thankfully for Candace Roland was either a good guy, or a total suck up as he came marching to the training ground with two warm cups of coffee. Nothing fancy two simple mugs, one suguar and two little containers of cream each.

"I think I have that covered! I didn't want to take too long getting breakfast so I figured I'd bring the coffee here and um well..." He stopped for a moment, her coat was just, well, it was stunning, he hadn't seen anything like that before. Sure Ceres had cut sleeves but this was above and beyond.

"You um... that coat is.. amazing." He mumbled before holding out a coffee to the other hunter. He himself wore a fairly standard issue mist coat, though it split down the back into two coat tails longer then average. His 5'5 height and generally meek aperance and still uncut hair made him look hardly the part for the job.

<< You're terrible at talking to people you know that? >>

Why did she have to always make remarks when meeting new people?

Candace lifted her head with a surprised look on her face when she heard a voice she didn't recognize replying to something she had said. She smelled the coffee right away, perking up with a grin and holding her hand out to accept it. "Aw, thanks! So you're the new Mist?" Candace moved, sipping at the coffee--ehhhhh not enough cream, but he didn't know that--and looking the young man up and down as she walked a slow circle around him. Mist, how lovely. She smiled. It was so nice to have more Mists around, even if Aria seemed hesitant on accepting men. "Very nice. I had a coat tailored in the back like yours when I was an intermediate. They're handy for when you need a lot of leg movement. Roland, right?" She asked to be sure, drinking some more of her coffee and suddenly realizing she was looking down at him.

...So tiny.

At the compliment on her coat she perked up with a huge grin and did a full turn for Ro to see the entire thing, giggling with excitement and practically glowing with pride. "Thank you! I worked really hard for this coat. One day you'll have one like it!" Candace was looking more and more ready to do this by the minute. She even made a point of drinking her coffee quickly so they didn't waste time. Any discomfort that he had about their little exchange was lost on her.

"Alright, so. This is the 'Miss Taken Tower', also known as the 'Princess Tower'. It's basically the Mist division's training course. Each division has one that caters to their needs; Suns have the shadow run, which is basically kill all the things. One of my favorites. Moons have Princess Isle, where you build defenses to protect the princess...I haven't done that one yet, I'm a terrible Moon. Life is literally jenga with tranquilizer snipers. And then there's the Deathsweeper...we don't talk about the deathsweeper." Candace was frowning now, her cheeks flushed as she distracted herself with finishing her coffee and setting the cup down by the wall of the castle. She'd toss it later.

"I'm sure it's been explained already but as a Mist you're expected to learn and be able to perform the duties of all the divisions. We do also have our own duties but...we'll get more on that later. This tower has four phases," Candace held up her hand, her index finger pointed up. "First phase is the Sun clearing. It's not as intense as the Shadow run but we have to clear it out, so be ready. After that is a smaller version of the deathsweeper. It's a puzzle on the floor where all you have to do is pick the right tiles. The wrong ones are set up with traps that can hurt you." She now held up two fingers and then pointed a third. "Phase three, we have to save the princess. We'll each have our own princess...it's a golem that is uh..going to look like absolutely any hunter on this island. It's quite the adventure." Finally, the fourth finger. "And then we have to get our princesses down the tower. The goal is to do this flawlessly, but sometimes that just doesn't happen. Don't get discouraged if you mess up. Learn from it. This is your chance to make mistakes." Candace smiled again.

"Any questions before we begin?"
PostPosted: Mon Jul 23, 2012 8:19 pm

The coffee was passed along with a grin, he was more then happy to start this relationship off on a good note of shared coffee. It seemed a lot of people on the island took a liking to the stuff. "More then welcome, all the talk about mornings I figured most of us on twitter could have used it." He didn't move much during his inspection, only moving to take a long sip of her coffee.

"I just picked it cuz it looked nice, I've honestly never had such an awesome coat." He grinned, "The one and only Roland Taft at your service Candace Ma'am." He even offered a little bow before looking up. He tried not to dwell on the fact that she was far more taller then he was. It was something he was usually use too. Still, it felt weird considering she was also his superior on the island.

"Well it looks lovely. As for me, maybe, I gota umm well. Frankly I need to live long enough to get it right?" He shrugged with a weak smile, "Everyone around here likes to bring up the whole 'live fast die young' thing really drains you as a new guy." Finishing his coffee he placed the cup beside her own.

"Princess tower, each one has a division and I'm guessing... death sweeper is death... I'll add that to a list of bad ideas for later." Like talking about Rep and the 'boys' handshakes, falling down, and generally screwing up. "Oh it's been explained, a lot. Most people seem to think that well... me being a guy and all that I already have a bad start but I've been reading a lot. FEAR, how our weapons work after I was done with Ceres the whole using FEAR to charge them. All sorts of bits and pieces between getting in some kind of shape.

<< It taste good too >> added a laughing voice in his head.

She continued explaining how the tower worked, monsters, traps, princess to save and a trip right back down. He only nodded his head at each stage. "Kill the monsters, avoid the traps. Get princess and get back down. Mistakes may happen, learn. Try not to fall down again." He added the last part a lesson Ceres drove home with a bruised side that had swollen down rather quickly thanks to Sylvia.

<< You're welcome by the way Roland. You're going to be loving me for that later on. >>

"Er no not really." He said ignoring the voice in his head, he reached past his ear again stroking the scythe earring before slamming the butt of Sylvia's body into the dirt, the scythe's blades glowing a faint misty aura as he summoned her.

"I'm ready to prove I'm worth calling a mist."

Candace paused in her little inspection when she heard 'live long enough'. Her eyes narrowed. Who the ********... "That's..a terrible attitude to have. I'm sorry if some jaded assholes gave you that impression. Who have you spoken to, exactly?" She recalled Rep trying to 'save' Ro from her on twitter so obviously there was that one. But who else was part of 'everyone'. "I won't lie to you. Yes, lots of people have died in just the year I've been here. Our last large mission alone had countless casualties. But you can't think like that, okay? The Mists are survivors. Aria, our leader, makes a point of being sure we can do that. You should see about talking to her or Lance, her assistant. They're very protective over Mists." Candace smiled again. "Honestly, don't live life thinking 'well I guess there's no point in doing my best to survive when I'm just going to die anyway'. Don't think about it unless you're in a situation where reminding yourself not to die is necessary. Okay? Does that make sense?"

Ro went on to show her he was paying attention, her eyes following him as he moved around. Ah, so it'd been explained that most of the division was women and why. "It's not impossible. I've seen pictures of men from years and years and years ago in this division. But most men tend to get too cocky, like they have something to prove." A shrug. She watched Ro summon his weapon and her eyes widened. How lovely.

"Very, very nice. I haven't seen many traditional scythe wielders on the island. I can only think of you and...one other person." She didn't feel like discussing that other person. "I'll show you my weapon when we get inside. She's not exactly fit for travel. Come on, let's head inside~." Candace turned and gestured for Ro to follow her, leading the way inside.

The Miss Taken Tower

General Information
As the general, jack-of-all trades division, the Mist Hunter training course is a combination of the other divisions' training challenges and also one of the more complicated. The goal of this course is to rescue the princess in the tower. Below her, you'll find yourself confronted with a number of shadowling attackers, and beyond them, a room of only slightly deadly traps. But even should you reach her location, you still need to pick the lock on the manacles holding her in place. Unskilled fiddling with the locks will prove unhealthy for both the princess and yourself. And once that's done, you need to make your way back down through the traps and shadowlings, defending the princess the whole way.

The Miss Taken Tower is one of the most challenging and frustrating courses available.

If you fail: your princess dies, and you are quite possibly KO'd. Senior hunters are observing and will make with a timely rescue as needed.

If you win: the princess will adore you for the rest of her exceedingly brief existence. Peen points for 100% health for you and the Princess, shadowlings fought, going for consecutive rescues.

"I well, it's not how I normally am!" He paused bowing his head, "Rep, Jordan, Harrison, Sasha, Mel... Mela... I'm going to call her Mel she's a trainee too with a hard realisim look on things. Then Ceres and you. Ceres and Jordan are the most positive, Harrison doesn't say much, Rep is Rep, and you seem pretty cool... Sasha was just really aggitated the whole time because my music was up too loud."

<< .... you must be terrible at keeping secrets. >>

"Do weapons count because mines a pervert and sings too much."

All he got in response was some variation of opera in his head now.

"I'll get in touch with them as soon as I can if that's what you want ma'am. I've just been... all over the place trying to get ready for when my first real mission is. Sparing with Ceres, studying everything I can in the labs, this right now with you even." Eventually a real smile, weary and true cracked through his face. "Candace ma'am you might be the first person to say something I agree with since I've gotten here. It makes plenty of sense really."

He rolled his eyes, "Rep... had a lot to say about Mist, even Harrison wished me luck, I hear Mist isn't nice on screw ups or men but... I'll do my best." He didn't mention that he felt like he did have to prove himself, he might have already given that away.

"Yes ma'am." It was all down to work now, he slung Sylvia over his shoulder easily and started after her into the tower.

<< I hope you're ready, and try not to fall. This course won't be so nice like Ceres was Rolo >>

Rep...and Sasha.

...Rep and Sasha.

Of. ********. Course. Sasha was angry over music? No, that couldn't be it. Candace groaned and shook her head, ruffling her hair a bit. Way to go, guys. Way to ******** go. "Rep is an a*****e just...because he can be an a*****e. I don't know what the ******** Sasha's problem is lately. She used to be an incredibly sweet, respectful young lady with all kinds of manners but lately all I'm hearing about her and seeing from her is an insufferab--" Candace cut herself off, frowning. Ro didn't need to hear this. "Don't let either of them get to you. Seriously. Like, don't even pay attention to their negativity. I mean it. It will just stress you out if you try to figure out what's up with them, or to cheer them up or whatever. Harrison is very blunt, to the point. He's a damn good Moon though, the best of our group in my opinion. Jordan is also very honest but he has more tact than all the trainees combined who you've mentioned. Mela...don't..ring a bell though. Are you sure you're getting her name right..? Ceres is a good girl too..." Candace laughed as he whined about his weapon. "You get used to it. You two are newly bonded, but it'll get better with time and effort. Don't take it for granted though, 'kay? This weapon is your literal soul mate. It's a part of you as much as you're a part of it now...what's its name?"

Candace opened the door as Ro mentioned Rep had some things to say about Mist. She laughed again. "Did he call us a division full of bitches? He has a thing about women. Incredible archaic, that guy. It's gotten..slightly better. Slightly. I can at least occasionally have a conversation with him without wanting to punch him in the face these days." Occasionally being the key word here. "Yeah, just do your best. That's all we can ask."

She lead him inside and the door closed behind them. The room was pitch dark...and then suddenly there were a pair a red of eyes. And another pair. And another. Three more, five more, twenty...

Candace grinned and summoned her weapon, a pair of bladed boots that reached her knee. They were lined up the shin from the top of her foot to her knee with a line of eye-looking gems that glowed a bright purple light. "Ro, Atropos. Atropos, Ro. Okay. Start clearing, be aware of everything around you. These guys are child's play, okay? Don't let yourself get overwhelmed."

She went in, knocking out a few of the smaller shadows first. Hmm...she can do better than that. Candace didn't look terribly satisfied by her own performance.

"In Rep's defense, he helped me out of the pod and introduced me to Jordan who I rank as one of the more enjoyable people to be around rivaled by Ceres. I need to find her again and check in, she left me with a bruised side, but otherwise it was a good practice spar." A small frown crossed his face though the more she talked about Sasha.

"Well maybe... somethings gotten to her? Can't always be 'sunshine and happiness' here on the island." The last part was in quotes done by his free hand while the other held Sylvia at bay. "Madeline! That's her name! We had coffee a day or so after I woke up while going over a few books." Slowly he started after her towards the towers door shrugging. "I'm getting along... better. She just won't stop singing and making the most awkward of comments when I least need to hear them."

<< Hey; I've been good today! Now go hit something so I can have a bite! >>

"Er... Sylvia's complaining she's hungry? That I should hit something? What does that mean anyway? As for Mists being errr well 'bitches' I wouldn't say that at all unless well, you're okay with that being a blanket term for women. I don't really have a problem with it? I mean, you seem swell enough and it's a shame Ceres isn't a Mist I'd love to work with her more. And Rep isn't.. always terrible. I don't feel like punching him at all. Not yet? Really..."

Soon they where inside the room, the only glow was that of a faint white mist around Sylvia's blade. Then came the eyes. One, two, five, twenty. He shivered at the site. They where low to the ground squirming and crawling. Not human, but bigger then an animal it seemed.

"Pleasure Atropos." He leveled Sylvia towards the shadows. "Sylvia. She apologizes that you won't be able to hear her song..." Sure enough the moment he stepped forward she started to sing, a quick tempo that dictated his foot steps as he pushed in towards the first shadows.

He still wasn't used to the dance, his blade slicing quickly but awkwardly, pushing the shadows back with weak hits rather then actually finishing them in clean sweeping blows.

He was clearly no Caelius to anyone who knew they shared a weapon type.

As Ro mentioned his weapon's complaints, Candace gave a nod and chuckled. "That sounds about right. They've been asleep for awhile and now they're being given a nice helping of FEAR after hibernation. It seems to get better with time, but she's going to complain for awhile. When I first received Atropos, whenever her charge was ready she basically sounded like she was having an orgasm. She's gotten better." It made things a lot less awkward now, that's for damn sure. As for 'bitches' being a blanket term for women, "Hell no it's not okay. It's disrespectful. I'm often a b***h but this is not a division of bitches. Cass is a sweetheart, Molly is..god. Molly is, like, a goddess. Aria is amazing, Lance is awesome. Sydney, Feng..don't listen to Rep, okay? He doesn't know what he's talking about."

Basically, Ro...just ignore Rep. Moral of the story.

Candace took a moment to watch Ro with Sylvia, distracted by the colors of the scythe as they blurred with her movement. It reminded her so much of Circe.. Don't you even start.

She chuckled. Sorry. I'm not, I promise.

You better not.

Hmmm..he had never used a scythe before from the looks of it. Not surprising as very few of them had ever actually used their weapon types before being recruited. "I've only ever used a scythe twice, but I found that when I used my whole body for swinging her around it made things flow better. Wish I was better help in that, but the only other scythe wielder I know is...Caelius." She sighed.

A shadow came at her and she cursed under her breath, ducking underneath it.

While still on the ground, Candace kicked a leg up and stabbed it through the head of a shadow trying to tackle her while she was down. She pushed her body into a backward roll, landing on her feet and kicking away a few more shadows. She stumbled back then when something hit the back of her leg, landing on the stairs up to the next floor. Perfect.

"Ro! This way!"

"FEAR? I um, what is that exactly? I've seen it mentioned in a few things around but that's just an emotion right it's not something tangible is it?" He was still fairly new and most of the reading he dealt with was just the basics on his jobs around the labs. He was still freaked out a bit about the multiple eye potato thing Sasha had shown him.

"She hasn't uhhh made THOSE sounds when she was full, but she does want to eat fairly often." He twisted around brushing a few more shadows away with a quick flicker of the scythe in his hands.

<< Well you try not eating for ages at a time.... >>

Sylvia grumbled softly into the back of his head before returning to her usual humming while he swung her about. It was something he was noticing. She sang, hummed, something of the sort when they fought, like she was happier then.

"I would never called you all that!" His eyes wide and lips pouting, "You've been nothing but good to me!" He didn't add that he would still follow some of Rep's advice only out of friendship. Also he seemed to have a lot of thought on Weapons. He even said Sylvia was a nice weapon! That counts for something right?

He only nodded at her next advice, it seemed he took it well. Moving forward he twisted the scythe down, Silvya reaching a crescendo in her song as the blade arched up as Roland sweeping twisting in a rotation that cleaved one shadow in half before bringing her down as he finished turning slicing another one jumping in half just as Silvya let out a delighted cry.

"H-holy s-s-s**t did I just... did I do that?"

He glanced toward Candace, her glowing boots and the stairs before he rushed over leaving wounded, dead, and dying shadows behind him. All the while Sylvia seemed to vibrate with delight in his hands.

Candace sighed as they reached the second floor, grimacing at the sight of the tiled floor in front of them. On the bright side? It was only two rows of tiles as opposed to ******** the deathsweeper.

Without another word she reached into the pouch strapped to her thigh and pulled out two small flags. She held one out toward Ro. "Here, take this. This right here is your new best friend whenever you approach any version of the deathsweeper. Watch." Candace took her own flag and approached the tiles, looking them over. Eenie meenie...this one. She dropped the flag on a tile in front of her, hoping it would work.

It did! Suddenly the tile burst into flame, enough to completely incinerate a human. Her eyes widened as she backed away from it. "Holy s**t, Clarice! Are you trying to kill us?!"

It would only kill you a little bit. Atropos chimed in with clear ******** YOU I'D RATHER NOT DIE AT ALL! And to that Atropos cackled. Candace sighed and stepped onto the tile beside the exploding one.

"And that is how you don't die."

"What it's just a little flag?" He flipped it over in his hands expecting something super amazing about it. He glanced back to Candace shrugging his shoulders.

"Why can't we just walk ac-" He went to move to the rows when her flag touched the ground flames bursting to life as he fellback.

"W-WHAT THE ********!?" It was probably the biggest outburst he had since getting here. Weapons? A slight stutter, voice in his head, confusion and hesitation. This? Exploding tiles like that in a training course!? HE COULD HAVE BLOWN UP ON THE TILE HE WAS WALKING TOWARDS.

"W-who who is Clarice and w-why is this... why is this a thing!?"

<< .... I ..... I've got nothing Roland you're on your own. >> And she was silent, she offered no advice on the tiles simply waiting.

Moving forward he was shaking like a leaf, Sylvia was still in his hands rattling softly mist rolling off the blade. The moment his foot hit the pannel a robotic foot shot out cracking him in the groin as a speaker below shouted.

THAT'S MY PURSE I DON'T KNOW YOU!

Silvya only laughed in his head as he tumbled sideways on the tile groaning.

No wonder all the mist where girls. Men where not made for that trap.

"Clarice is the Life division assistant. Despite my complaining just now she's pretty great. She's in Halloween right now but...hopefully she'll be back soon." Candace sighed softly and then watched him move onto the first tile. She heard the shout and nearly jumped as a leg came flying up from the tile and hit him square in the manhood. Candace did her best to be polite but there was no way she could hold back her laughter. Her arms wrapped around her middle as she doubled over, laughing hysterically. Yes, we're twelve years old here and laughing at nutshots given by robotic legs crying out about purses.

He fell over and she snorted, stumbling back onto a tile behind her. There was a click..click...

s**t! No!

Candace jumped off the tile and onto the one beside it. Under her heel she felt a part of the tile sink and she hopped onto the next tile and finally onto the safe floor on the other side. The first tile she had stepped on suddenly had sharp spikes going through it from the floor. The second? Arrows shot past it, each arrow head barbed and very painful looking.

"Are you okay?" Candace called out, chuckling softly and rubbing her side. That had looked like it'd hurt. "One more tile and we can take a quick rest before we free the princess from her bonds~." Normally she would just continue on without a rest but well...poor guy looked to be in some serious pain.
