Where were all the stallions? Tairyn was not having a good day. She had been on the move since sunrise and had yet to see a single stallion anywhere. What was a mare to do? With a huff the brightly colored Kirin paused, letting her eyes roam across the open plains she was currently in, a line of trees were off to the west and she was certain she had been a glimmer like the sun reflecting off of water to the north. Yet for all the things she could see, stallions were not among them. This day was certainly not working out how she had hoped. By now she should have run into at least one male, though it was always more fun to meet up with two, flirt with both and have them work against each other to gain her attention and affections.
From the looks of it that was not happening today. Glancing up at the sun Tairyn wondered if they were simply hiding among the trees, seeking shelter from the midday heat. Well if they were in the trees then that's where Tairyn would go. Turning she made a straight line for the nearest clump of trees, humming a random odd beat as she went, her beat bobbing to the rhythm.
Entering the stand of trees Tairyn wondered just what kind of stallions she would find hiding from the sun. Honestly today wasn't that hot, so either they were extremely sensitive to the heat or perhaps just the forest loving types. In the end it didn't matter to her, as long as she got her daily dose of stallion everything would be okay.

Eldorada was irritated - it was far, far to hot, the river was far far to murky, the bugs were far far to bitey. Overall it was just a terrible, horrible day. What she wouldn't do for her life back home - where she had had servants to follow her around with palm fronds to make sure she was cool..and to shoo the insects away. Melted ice water from high in the mountains was the only decent drinking water and sadly..there was no one around to fetch that for her either.
Life down here with the commoners was awful. It was a good thing that she didn't plan to live like this for very long. Speaking of Commoners..was that one of them approaching now? It had to be..no self respecting noble would wander about humming such an atrocious tune. She snorted in derision as the mare approached, watching with narrowed irritated eyes. She hadn't thought the day could get any worse...but the arrival of the common mare proved that it could, maybe she'd just walk right on by.

It didn't take too long for Tairyn to realize there was another in the area. The pale coat stood out quite a bit among the browns and greens of the forest, of course it didn't stand out as much as her own brightly colored pelt. Ha beat you in that, she thought. Of course it also didn't take her long after starting to head towards the stranger to realize that it was a mare. Not at all what she was hoping for. Why couldn't it have been a stallion out here? Frowning slightly Tairyn kept on going, ignoring the look the other was casting her way. This mare needed to relax and have some fun and Tairyn was just the one to help her with that. Perhaps she knew where there were some stallions around here and then they could really have some fun.
As she came closer Tairyn took in the mares overall appearance. Pale pelt with even paler markers, perfect hair that didn't have a single bit out of place, collar around her neck that attempted to add some color but didn't do enough. Oh yes this mare definitely needed some help and fast. "Well look at you miss perfect. What you doing out here in the woods? You should be out there where all the fun and action is!" She said motioning back towards the meadow that could barely be seen between the trees. "Don't worry, the sun won't hurt your pretty self." Tairyn said with a bit of a laugh and then leaned closer to inspect the gem in the mares color. "Well ain't that a fancy bit of decoration you have there." It was pretty sure but things like that could be lost or stolen, where as a colorful pelt could never be lost, rarely faded in the sun and was a great conversation starter. Tairyn wouldn't change her colorful appearance for all the trinkets in the world.

As the mare came closer Eldorada's look of annoyance changed into one of ..horror. "What..in the world..happened to your hair!" She gasped at the other mare, completely ignoring all of her babbling for the moment. I mean it was one thing to be a peasant but that didn't mean you had to run around and not give a crap about yourself too. Commoners were such disgusting creatures..really it wouldn't surprise her if the mare never bathed either.
"It's far to hot to run around in that meadow" Eldorara stated firmly "As I said before it's certainly not doing your hair any favors." She added with a slight shudder. When the mare came close to look at her gem Eldorada stepped back a little bit. "Yes well..it's fake, certainly not worth anything much, just a little trinket" She hastily told the mare. Last thing she needed was some peasant stealing it. Wretched beast.

What happened to her hair? Tairyn wasn't sure what the mare meant by this. So she glanced from one side then the other trying to see if anything was perhaps lodged in her hair. Honestly she couldn't see much, just the ends of her wild mane, seemed alright to her. Still Tairyn gave her head a shake just to be certain nothing was stuck up there, though this only proved to make her hair poof out more wildly, not that she could tell of course. "Well...my hair is still there so I'm not sure what has happened to it." Tairyn told the other, oblivious to the fact her messy hair offended the mare. Not worried about sticking to the subject of hair Tairyn soldiered on.
"Ain't that hot out. You should go the the river, nice place to cool off." She smirked and then suddenly understood what the mare was talking about when she had earlier made the comment about her hair, which made Tairyn laugh. "Oh the heat didn't do that to my hair. It's just the way it is, wild and free, just like me." She had tried, twice to be exact, to tame down her hair several years ago, but it had proved futile and she had no real desire to have her hair any other way, so it remained as it was. "Hey, it don't matter that it's fake, just be happy that it's pretty. Who knows maybe it will attract a nice stallion for you." Speaking of stallions..Tairyn glanced around, she had been on a mission earlier and this mare was sidetracking her from it. But for the moment Tauryn stayed put, she thought this mare needed to relax a bit before she left on her quest for a handsome hunk. "Course I doubt any male is gonna go sauntering through the forest looking for someone. They tend to be out in the world ya know. So if you stay here hidden away you'll never find one...and that would be a shame." She gave her head a shake, she couldn't imagine a life without stallions. She rarely went a few days without spending time with one male or another.

Was it surprising that this mare didn't really care about her hair? Not really..disturbing, but not surprising. Why couldn't she run across a nice proper noble for once? Was that really to much to ask of the world? Still there did not seem to be any point to continuing to try and convince the mare she needed to fix her hair so Eldorada let the subject drop.
Wrinkling her nose she made a disgusted face "The river? That place is filthy! Mud..and bugs and who knows what is floating around in that fetid swamp, the only river I shall ever swim in is a mountain fed spring. Those are clean at least." She informed the mare, perhaps this heathen had never considered the quality of water she was consuming and swimming around in - that would explain her wild hair..but Eldorada thought about such things quite often. But the rainbow mare was going off again in a completely new direction.
"I highly doubt any of the stallion wandering around here are worth spending any time with" She stated in a condescending tone - I mean really what was the odds of finding a prince out here in the middle of nowhere?

Tairyn couldn't help roll her eyes and let out a snort. Of course this mare would be worried about mud. Honestly what was with so many mares being afraid of a little mud? Mud was a good thing, it kept the flies at bay during the bug filled summer, was soothingly cool on a hot day and made the most awesome squishing sound when one stepped in it. No, mud was a good thing this mare just didn't and couldn't see it. Mares. This was the exact reason why Tairyn spent almost all of her time with stallions, they were far more open to everything and well...who couldn't resist a sexy stallion? Tairyn let out a sigh before giving her head a shake, as soon as she was done with this silly mare she could find herself a nice stallion to curl up with for the night.
"Then what do you drink? Tairyn questioned though part of her didn't care. If the mare wouldn't swim in the river because it was 'dirty' then clearly she wouldn't drink the water either. Of course the comment about stallions made Tairyn balk. The stallions around her not worth spending time with?! What was wrong with this mare? Suddenly Tairyn felt sick. How could this mare say such a terrible thing. "There are plenty of worth while stallions around here, all you need to do is take your too good for anything pristine little self out there and see the possibilities. I'm sure they would trip over each other just to get you to look at them." Tairyn wasn't stupid, she knew this mare was beautiful and males liked beautiful mares, for the most part.

"Well properly purified water and fruit juices - I can see where you might be a bit confused, finding such a source can be difficult but I assure you its much better for your health" Finally a topic that Eldorada could actually warm up to! "I can even show you if you'd like" She wasn't above showing heathens the proper way to take care of themselves when she got the opportunity, cleaner peasants made for a cleaner kingdom after all!
"I have no desire to lower myself and settle for a stallion who is not properly pedigreed and the odds of a Prince wandering about through these woods is quite low. It is very important to connect yourself only to those of equal station to yourself...imagine the scandal it would cause if I were to lay with a peasant...it would be heresy! Treason! I"d never be accepted in proper social circles again!"

Something the mare said peeked Tairyn's interests. So much so that she ignored the comments about not being able to find a Prince out here and spending time with a peasant would be a treasonous act. "Purified water and fruit juices?" Tairyn had never considered those options, she always drank from streams or lakes. These new options sounded interesting as long as they didn't take too much effort. Tairyn didn't want to be bogged down trying to purify water, whatever that meant, nor spend hours searching for fruit to collect. Still, it was obvious this mare was willing to show her how to obtain these different sources and Tairyn was willing to learn.
And honestly outside of looking for stallion, which seemed to not be in this area, there wasn't much else to do. "Sure, show me how you get this purified water and fruit juices." Sometimes one had to take a step away from the normalcy of life and try something new and today looked like it was going to be one of those days for Tairyn.

There you see! Even the uncouth and barbaric could be taught something if you were willing and while Eldorada wasn't generally in the habit of spending unnecessary time with peasants she was in the habit of trying to make the world a little less dirty...a cleaner world simply meant less disgusting things for her to deal with in the long run. In any case she was rather thirsty herself so she wasn't adverse to taking the little grungy mare along with her. Perhaps she could even get her to take a bath while she was at it.
"You certainly won't regret it" Elodorada told the mare as she turned into the forest "It will change your life" She promised and since she was fairly certain that the mare would enjoy the fruit juices more they would start with that. Perhaps she would even share the joys of fermented fruit juices...although in excess those could be dangerous and she was certain the other mare would just use them to act like a heathen rather then enjoy it in the limited fashion it was meant to be enjoyed. She certainly didn't want a drunken peasant following her around. "First we must find some fruit, any will do, even berries - though you need a great deal more of them"

Tairyn was half expecting the mare to back out of her offer to teach her about fruit juices when she began to explain it. This mare may be a bit on the dull side, and certainly not the type Tairyn would normally hang out with but it was kind of nice to side step and do something different. She couldn't help but let out a small laugh. Honestly Tairyn didn't see how learning how to make and drink fruit juices and purified water would result in any sort of chance in her life. Besides, Tairyn liked the way her life had been going so far, so why change it now. With a shake of her head she dismissed those thoughts. Regardless of not wanting to change she was interested in learning how to do this. After all sometimes it would become very dry and having a different source of things to drink would help when water was a rare commodity.
"There were some berry bushes back that way a bit." Tairyn motioned in the direction she had come from. She had distinctly remembered seeing the berries but passed them by in her search for a studly companion. Seems it was a good thing she didn't stop to eat them earlier. Making the assumption she should go and get them, since she hadn't seen any other fruit around here, Tairyn began to walk back down the path. After a few steps she glanced back at the mare and called over her shoulder. The names Tairyn by the way." In their initial meeting the two had not exchanged names, not that Tairyn always needed to know that detail about others, but she figured since the mare was teaching her something it would be handy to be able to use each others names.

Eldorada let out a small huff as the mare mentioned seeing berries earlier on, of course the heathen would know where to find things before she did - she probably ran about harvesting the area much like her servants had back home. "Those will work fine" Eldorada exclaimed in a cloyingly sweet voice as she followed after the mare.
And then the peasant seemed to think she wanted to know it's name - really Eldorada would likely forget it as soon as the mare was out of sight - no point in wasting memory on silly unneeded details like peasant names now was there? She hadn't even been able to to recall her her servants names she's just called them One and Two or Stallion and Mare. Well if it was going to make this a better experience then she supposed she could give the other her name as well. "Princess Eldorada of the Dawn Runners Kingdom" She supplied "I don't suppose you recall what type of berries you saw?" Probably not. Everyone knew peasants were notoriously sloppy about that sort of thing.

Tairyn stopped in her quest for the berries as the mare shared her name...not only her name but title as well. She was a princess? No way! "Um...does this mean I need to call you 'Your Highness'?" Tairyn asked, though there was a definite glint of respect in the mares eyes knowing she was in the presence of royalty. Suddenly the mares insistence that she could not be seen with heathens below her, especially males, made perfect sense. "I can't say I've ever heard of the Dawn Runners, and I've been all over these lands." Was the princesses herd further away or had she just simply not wandered into the right area?
Returning to the task at hand, but keeping her ears turned so she could hear the mares response Tairyn continued down the path, it wouldn't be much farther before she found the bushes again, they had been an object of interest only moments before seeing the mare. "They looked to be blueberries to me when I passed them. How many do we need in order to make the juice..." she asked and then remembering who she was with quickly tacked on, "your Highness." Boy imagine being in the presence of royalty. Suddenly she wondered what it would be like to spent the night with a royal prince, or one of the knights...her attention on her current task waned for a moment as Tairyn was stuck in a dream before shaking her head finding that she had reached the berry bush she pulled to a stop.

"Well it would be proper..but as we are not in a formal situation then it's not required." Eldorada sniffed. Besides while she wasn't adverse to telling others who she was she didn't want all the little peasants running over to get a look at her. Fame..it could be so very tiring at times!
"The herd is far away from here, it is currently in the hands of a vicious stallion - I came here to look for a suitable Prince and his Knights so that I can free them." She told the other mare, boiling down the rather complicated story to it's more simpler form so that the lesser mare could comprehend. Peasants just didn't understand politics all the time so one had to..dumb it down for them. Thankfully the other mare seemed willing to continue on with their task and if she could get her to do most of the work in the guise of 'learning' well it would almost be like having servants again and wouldn't that be delightful?
"Oh quite a few, depends on how strong you want the taste to be." She told the other mare. "Blueberry bushes usually have a good deal of berries on them however so we should be fine."

Tairyn paused as Eldorada explained that using her title wasn't needed at this time. Thank goodness for that since she was fairly certain that calling her Princess constantly would not only get dull but eventually she'd also forget and likely offend the mare. And there would be no offending her until she figured out just how to make juice from these berries. While not usually interested in learning new things this idea was intriguing enough for her to give it a go. If it proved to be too boring and too much work then in the future she could just stick to water, or maybe get one of her stallion friends to do it for her. Yes, that was the better idea, have a male do it for her and kill two birds with one stone, have a male companion and get juice!
"Shame about your herd. I'm sure you'll get it back one day." Honestly Tairyn didn't think it was important but was trying the small talk thing. Being tied down to a herd, especially leading one, seemed like a dull and tiring life. Imagine always being in the same spot, seeing the same faces each and every day, and worse having to solve problems and be responsible. No thank you! Tairyn was quite content with being a roamer and likely would never stay in one place or with one individual for more than a day or two. "Well, I like things interesting, so let's make it as strong as possible." She said over her shoulder before staring at the blueberry bush. Luckily there seemed to be more berries than leaves on this bush so it would be quite easy to gather plenty for the juice. But just to make sure they were in deed blueberries Tairyn took a few off the bush and chewed them up. Yup, definitely blueberries. Ah this juice was going to taste great! Finding a large leaf nearby Tairyn become plucking berries off the bush and placing them on the leaf to hold them.
