Biography: Waka was born into a small household in a small village many many years ago. Even at a young age, he was able to see the spirits of the deceased, though his raw ability never allowed him to communicate to them. In order to obtain money, or save some for themselves, his parents soon allowed him to work at a local shrine where he was trained in the way of calming the spirits. This early training clarified his sight into the world of the dead and only encouraged his bond with them. However, as he aged, he found the life grew boring and he wished to see the land and wander. He soon found his wish granted. Upon his thirteenth year of living, a wandering priest entered the village and helped soothed the restless dead, catching Waka's eye as a chance to escape. After some persistence, the man agreed to let Waka follow him if it was okay with his old master. The older priest agreed, saying he could easily find help again in such a small town and bid them farewell.
Waka's growth was furthered by the wandering priest, a somewhat wealthy man by the name of Shojiro. In an act of kindness he bought Waka a flute to play, something to earn him extra money in his travels with the man, and in the case Shojiro died, after he had passed on and been put to rest by his disciple. And so it came to pass that Waka grew in the arts of flute playing and passing on the souls of the restless, quelling those seeking vengeance and loving the living alike. He skills and talents showed more the more he was nurtured and it wasn't long before Waka had some fiscal safety of his own, not as wealthy as Sojiro, but still having some when he needed it. Then things began to get better only to be knocked down farther than ever possible to redeem.
War broke out a couple of years later as they did throughout history and Waka's wealth skyrocketed, now taking over the business from his mentor while traveling with the old man in a sheer act of the respect Waka had for him, paying his teacher what he would accept. And then on a fateful night, hell was brought to the inn's doorstep, a mass slaughter of those outright resisting or useless, and capture of those who may prove useful. Shojiro was killed on site while Waka watched, tearful, his heart burning for revenge. He witnessed the soul emerge and heard his mentor speak, wishing him great luck in life as the spirit left the realm of the living, bequeathing any remaining business of the souls to Waka as he was taken away. He was dragged to the house on the highest hill of the town where the commander, the actual Lord who had started this war, asked the talents of his prisoners who were held on their knees, their personal belongings, such as flutes or knives, on the ground in the mud before them. Those who refused to answer, answered poorly, or were simply judged useless were dragged forward to the front of the crowd and disemboweled. Many died, few were left alive, all sensing Waka and begging him for vengeance, to kill this cruel man. Waka was already scarred from the brutal slaying of his beloved mentor, but this was far too much. It traumatized his mind, his voice piercing the air as he screamed and flailed against his captor, breaking free, screaming and crying as he ran head long towards the burning town below, arrows whizzing by and missing by miracle. However, Waka tripped at the stairs and fell to the ground, only inches before the down hill slope. Had he of made it, only horses could have caught him. But such was not the case as the executioner, the man he had escaped drew his sword to cut down Waka and end him there. His would be killer was stopped mid swing by the Lord's blade protruding grotesquely from his ribs. The blow didn't kill the soldier, but the Lord had been wise, knowing his archers should not have missed such a wild boy. He had medics treat his wounded soldier and brought three men to hold Waka should he go berserk again. Waka was much easier to handle though, his body no longer trembling, his eyes no longer crying, but shut tightly to keep from viewing the scene as his face was forced to look upwards. Those holding him would have forced open his eyes if the Lord had not stopped them. Thus followed a conversation, one where the Lord admitted thinking Waka was a simple entertainer when he saw the elaborate katana and sheath as well as the flute, but now thought much more of the boy. The lord asked what Waka really was and what he saw. Waka replied, his voice soft and weak, his throat injured from the screaming he had done, an injury that would prove permanent. "I see the atrocity of man and the truth of reality, and I shall never open my eyes to it lest they bring forth a never ending madness into my soul." The Lord was kinder then, told the men to escort him to the inn and retrieve the body of whoever Waka wished. Waka found his mentor with great help, and buried him the next day. He alone attended the funeral, joined by the Lord when it had ended. Waka's life of servitude began afterwards.
The following year, the Lord died of illness and his son took over his estate. Waka, who had been respected as the household priest, was given higher honors by the son, partly because the son was so spiritual and partly because Waka had faithfully served his father for a full year, even though it was forced. In the following years that passed, Waka was even given his own estate, a grand place near the sea. He would not live to see the house though. The day before their arrival, Waka had a flashback of sorts in his sleep, tired from the long journey and getting out of his carriage, ignoring all his guards as he walked up a cliff and then off of it, dying as he hit the sea below. Due to the angle he walked and the time of day, all of his guards had sworn that Waka had ascended a golden stairway, climbing into the divine heavens. None were persecuted, and all believed. Waka's fame had indeed spread far in his life and touched many. Even after his death, the spiritually aware claimed to see a man dressed in fine clothing, carrying an ornately decorated sword watching them through closed eyes. It was in this way Waka finally earned the nick name "The Celestial Envoy" and became a legend of the land.
In the Rukongai, Waka's fine clothing and sheer luck landed him in an upper part of the Rukongai, many thinking he was a noble, or related to one, offering him help and food, though he tried to protest in his voice, stricken even in death. It wasn't too long before the Shinigami caught wind of his impressive reiatsu and took him to Shino Academy. He had stayed only two weeks in the Rukongai before then, something that can only be defined as divine luck. In Shino Academy, his reiatsu was refined and he was placed in a specific training course to focus solely on his reiatsu and his speed, many finding he was also naturally fast. However, despite all his training, the supposed prodigy seemed to excel at nothing else, or even able to utilize all of his reiatsu, now appearing to be underwhelming. All the same, he was graduated with the rest of his class.
Upon entering the Gotei 13, Waka found himself constantly hopping from division to division. he would change whenever he was tired of them or a higher up initiated it themselves, always thanking his closest friends for their time together. His years of working up were slow, and he finally made it to the position of the Fifth Division Captain after years and years of trying and failing. However, many know of his past, and it is said that out of all the captains, he is the weakest and most desirable to those seeking an easy seat at the top of the chain. Shockingly enough, Waka would agree, though he would also openly invite you to try.
Personality: Waka is a soft spoken man who shows little emotion. He is quite proper at times, even when told it isn't a worry. As such, he enjoys reading and music and various other arts. He often has a somewhat blank expression unless he has been blatantly disrespected. Like Gin, he seems to never open his eyes at all. His similarity to the former traitor turned hero has often led to some suspicion of him by young recruits and his attitude can utterly unnerve one due to the level of formality being so high at points it seems as if you're already dead. If one were to ask why his eyes are never open he would simply reply with "I only see the truth of reality with my eyes." Some rumor it's because he's blind, but that isn't true at all. Although he prefers to keep this a secret, Waka has trouble holding back against "truly malicious souls" and will often just suddenly go all out with very few holds barred. Despite his seemingly instant rampage state, he seems to be able to hold enough in check not to blow his cover as a Royal Guard.

Unreleased form: The unreleased form of Waka's zanpakuto is actually the flute he carries and often plays, not the katana he primarily uses to fight with.
►Shikai
- Release Command : Sing of Sadness, Sukoshi Nakidori
Shikai Appearance : Reishi condenses around the flute, turning the flute itself into a hilt, creating a blade comprised of Waka's reishi roughly 48 inches (96 cm) long. It is as sharp as any blade and able to catch zanpakuto as if it were corporeal.
Physical Changes : Waka undergoes no physical changes
Battlefield Changes : The battle field is filled with a gentle breeze carrying a a sorrowful song on the winds.
Shikai Boosts: Waka's speed and the force of his reiatsu increase drastically but none of his other attributes follow this increase.
Shikai Techniques :
- Kanashimi no Utahime: Waka brings his palm across the blade, dispersing the reishi particles into the air to chase after the opponent in a storm of glowing reiryoku. If there particles manage to catch and make contact with the foe, they will stick, attempting to envelop them entirely in a cage of energy. Upon a successful capture of any limb or a moderate amount of the particles making contact, Waka will bring back his hand in a swing, the particles instantly creating outward force as they crush down on the target for only a moment before returning to Waka. This move is generally used for crippling or slowing a foe's movement. Even though this is described as a cage, the foe has free movement and can move unaffected by the particles. To remove those already stuck to a person, one merely need exert a moderate burst of reiatsu. [3/10][3 post cool down]
Utahime no Koe Waka swings his zanpakuto, unleashing a whirling disk of reiryoku at the foe. This disk creates a low wailing as it rushes for the foe, aiming to cleave them across the midsection. It shows moderate homing capabilities and a dangerously sharp edge, but lacks piercing power. [4/10][2 post Recharge]
Kotori no Mue: Waka forms seven bird shaped creatures of reishi, even flapping their wings as they take off towards a foe. These birds show excellent homing capabilities and great piercing power but deal little damage on their own. However, if all seven make contact the damage dealt is moderate. These birds may chase a foe for a short while after being summoned before detonating on their own. [4/10][2 post last, 2 post cool down]

- Bankai Command : Bring Sorrow on the Winds, Yuutsu Utahime
Bankai Appearance : While the appearance of the Bankai doesn't change, the blade does grow longer, extending out 120 cm now.
Physical Changes : N/A
Battlefield Changes : The wind picks up in speed, a melancholy song wafting on the winds as they whisk around the battlefield.
Bankai Boosts: Waka's already impressive reiatsu and speed increase further, gaining minor boosts in other stats.
Bankai Techniques :
- Uta o Mo: Waka inhales deeply and releases a massive ring of reiryoku forward at the foe, blocking incoming attacks. However, this ring also causes a great amount of damage as it moves forth, grinding across the ground and smashing into things. This ring is 2 meters tall and travels rather quickly, ricocheting off objects up to three times before dissipating, losing some power every time it ricochets. [6/10][3 post Cool down]
Utahime no Shuen Waka gathers up ambient reiryoku in the area, combining it with his own to bring forth large angelic wings. He then rushes forward, chasing down the foe as he flies after them at high speed, looking to get close or even latch onto them. Shortly afterwards, he self detonates, dealing massive damage to the area around him and anyone or anything unfortunate enough to be caught in the blast. This move then heals up Waka, repairing broken bones and moderate wounds, unable to heal organ damage but also seals his zanpakuto for the remainder of the fight or for a total of 20 posts (10 of my own, 10 of the foe's). The blast wave is equal to a full city block but the blast radius itself is only down to only 30 feet. *Special Note* This move can in fact be dodged by simply moving out of its range of detonation while Waka tries to chase the foe down [10/10]

- Release Command :
Appearance : Waka's zanpakuto utterly dissipates, decomposing directly into reishi and then reforming into a pure lance roughly 144 cm in length. This lance is all cutting edge with the exception of the middle 30 cm Waka uses to hold it.
Physical Changes : Waka sprouts large golden wings imbued with a silvery glow to them from his back. These wings not only allow him to fly but when he stands still at ground level, it also causes him to float only a bit above the ground, reducing friction and allowing him even faster speeds.
Battlefield Changes : His Tenkai carries no Battlefield changes
Boosts: Waka's Reiatsu and Speed increase even further than before.
Additional Techniques :
- Utahime no Ikari: Waka throws his lance at the foe, aiming to impale them or the ground near them. After the lance buries itself into either the target or the ground, lightning crashes to the ground using the lance as a lightning rod. After use, the rod simply fades away and reforms in Waka's hand. [7/10][4 post cool down]
Utahime no Tabi Waka cracks his reishi lance, turning it into seven large birds that flit about the air around him momentarily before flying at the foe. These birds not only have great piercing power but also deal a moderate amount of damage. Additionally, each bird explodes on impact. This is so that extra damage may be dealt to barriers and should a bird pierce through, a foe may have their technique disrupted or even blown apart. All the same, this move is still quantity over quality and the greatest amount of damage comes from seven direct hits. [9/10][3 post cool down

Other Abilities:
- Ambidextrous: Waka is ambidextrous due to his years of flute playing, though he is naturally left handed.
Immense Reiatsu: Waka's Reiatsu is unnaturally high but other than a full mastery of kido and a kido typed zanpakuto, he seems to have no real talent with it, only possessing a staggering amount and able to bring those of a single lower rank to their knees with an unexpected sudden burst on some occasions.
Shunpo Master: Waka's other talent is his sheer speed. Although he is very fast with his geta on, he is truly a sight to behold when he kicks them off, only doing so when he is perfectly serious and wishes for the fight to end.
Celestial Envoy: This pertains mainly to spirits, namely to those in the zanpakuto. Waka feels a natural connection with his and apologizes to it when it must be used in battle. He has feeling for those zanpakuto around him as well. This could be said to be an extension of an early developed reiatsu sense he had when he was alive.
► Hidden Information // Secrets
- Secret Ability:
- On the Winds: Waka can pass his voice along a trail of reishi in a similar fashion to certain kido or a Hell's Butterfly. However, this is often much harder to intercept because it isn't tangible or as noticeable as the other two. Although he does actually use this move plenty of times, he passes it off as a highly advanced kido technique he created while practicing.
Underwhelming Might: Waka constantly keeps his power seemingly low, barely above that of a Lieutenant's ability. However, this is all a facade and he is in fact quite strong, his kind and more soft spoken personality taking a back seat when he becomes truly serious. His ability to make himself so weak is actually so effective it's basically a sealing spell, so anyone looking to break seals with him nearby may bite off more than they can chew. When looking to release his full energy on his own, he simply opens his eye(s), keeping them closed like a seal in similar fashion to Kenpachi's eyepiece. The reaitsu increase is instant, and can help him in a pinch, but also renders him highly noticeable to those around, making this a very give and take method.
Secret Background: Waka became a Royal Guard several years after escalating to the position of a Captain. His innate ability with zanpakuto spirits, namely his own, and reiatsu attracted them to him, honing his skills in secret. Due to his seemingly underwhelming nature, the Royal Guard felt he would make an excellent spy, able to politely slip his way into places many may not be allowed to. He has had a hand in several incidents, including part of the winter war and even assisting Gin's betrayal both to the Seireitei and Aizen.
