Virtus was in such a good mood!

It was not different to most days, of course, as it was not clear if he even knew what a bad mood was. But this evening he was in very high spirits, even for him, as he began his patrol.

Maybe it was because he felt he was doing so well. He did not go out for praise from others, so he was not sure if Remarque or Navi or any of the other Dark senshi would agree with him, but from a personal stand point he felt he was doing everything he could, to the best of his ability.

He was training, practicing, and even getting out there to fight. He was draining energy and using his skills as he was being taught them. Except his magic. He did not get very much practice with his ability, but for that he was actually glad.

Healing people would require them to be hurt first, and he did not like the idea of that.

He was walking near some large buildings, though he did not know what was in them. He had not really staked out the area very well, but he thought it might be a nice change of pace from the park and allies, at least.

The newly born Sailor Chariklo was out wandering. She knew, in a very vague way, that she needed to gather energy up, but the mechanics still puzzled her. Fortunately for her, she also needed to patrol and learn as much as possible. Which was why she was currently stumbling about outside a delightful clump of dark buildings holding her left arm close to her chest and cursing anything and everything.

It had all seemed so simple in theory. Find a random, ideally sleeping homeless person and practice siphoning off a tiny bit of energy. She'd certainly found a homeless man, but unfortunately, he hadn't been sleeping. And judging by the dark rimmed eyes, uncontrollable twitching and high pitched giggling, sleep was not something that had troubled this guy in a few days. And before she'd been able to turn and hurry in the other direction, he'd been on her, seeing her as a source of further funding for whatever addiction he was in the grips of.

Chariklo had never been one to quail and flail, preferring to fight back when the situation demanded. And her attacker was so much cold meat thanks to a rather devastating one two to his nasal cavity. Sadly, she hadn't been able to stop him from biting her arm as he'd scrabbled for her throat. He'd managed to break the skin and leave some rather nasty marks on her.

She hurt, she was bleeding and her mood was not good. And it was not getting any better as she considered her options for treatment. Go home and hope or go to the hospital and risk questioning. What was a girl to do?

Virtus felt the presence of another Chaotic aura nearby. He made his way toward it and saw an unfamiliar face as he rounded a corner. A new member? That was good! He had not met very many of those. At least, not ones that were newer than he was.

Though he needed to accept that he was not as new as he once was.

That might have been scary, for anyone who knew how to be anxious about those kinds of things. Not Virtus. Nothing brought him down, nothing scared him for long. He had a very positive outlook on things, to say the least.

"Hello there! Oh, are you okay?" He saw immediately that she was looking a little ruffled, upset, and he moved over to her in hope of helping her out. He did not like it when others were feeling bad, and he wanted to fix that right away.

"Did you get into a fight?"

At the sound of another voice, Chariklo whirled in place, going into a defensive posture, the bleeding bitemark on her forearm visible. Then she felt the energy coming off of him and realized that it was a much weaker version of the wave she'd felt coming from Ares.

Relaxing only slightly, she studied the boy. Smiling, open face, mostly black uniform, no trace of duplicity in his eyes. And, as he had not attacked her yet, it was reasonable that he wasn't planning to do so anytime in the near future.

In a harsher voice than she'd intended, she heard herself answer, "Do I look okay? Big ol' bleeding bites are usually not a sign of okay!"

Taking a deep breath, she forced herself to act a little less agressive. It wasn't this boy's fault she'd been hurt. And there was enough genuine concern in his voice to keep her from ripping into him verbally.

"Ahhh... look. I'm really not having a good night right now. This ******** well hurts and I have no idea what sort of germs and s**t the guy who got me had and frankly, I am in no mood for chit chat. So, unless you're able to cast Heal or something, can we please do the introduction thing some other time?"

Really, given the circumstances, she was being positively friendly.

Virtus saw the blood on her immediately and his instinct to heal and protect kicked into overdrive. He was the senshi of Kindness, and though he was on the side of Chaos, all his instincts to do good for his team were firmly in place. He was a good guy, no matter how others saw them, and he cared about his teammates.

Even if he had never met them before!

"No, they're not a sign of okay, you're right! I'm sorry, I didn't see them before. I would be upset as well!" He didn't blame her for snapping at him. Whatever bit her had done a really good job of it. Were those human teeth marks?

She must have had a very serious battle with a very dangerous White Moon warrior. Someone who had no respect for any rules of fair play or honest fighting.

"Here, let me help you!" He smiled and moved closer to her. This was something he had not practiced too much but he was hopeful that he could pull it off. For her sake, really.

"Exuro Sio!" He touched his hand lightly over a bite wound and his magic moved from him and into her arm. Since the wound was small his power could heal it completely, leaving just dried blood behind where an injury had once been. Watching it close filled him with excitement, and he smiled at her like he had just gotten a puppy for christmas.

Oh sweet Jesus on a pogo stick. Chariklo couldn't be angry at the puppy eyes. Or the eager demeanor. And he'd offered to help and moved in to do just that so quickly that she'd hardly had time to protest. And when his hand closed over the bite, all she felt was a warm gentleness.

And when that hand was removed and her arm was as good as new, she couldn't help her jaw dropping in amused shock. The boy's smile only added to that amusement and made Chariklo reach out to ruffle his hair.

"Well, I'll be damned, you really can cast Heal!" Chariklo laughed and gave the boy a grin and a wink. "Well then, let me apologize for nearly biting your head off and introduce myself. Sailor Chariklo, Senshi of Seagulls and current newbie to the Dark Mirror Court."

Someday, she'd learn to be more cautious about announcing her affiliations to random strangers. But for now, it was hard to be wary when said random dude had so nicely healed her and looked as if she'd just given him the keys to a palace. Keys to a palace and a puppy.

Jesus, it was too cute.

"I really can!"

There wasn't shock in his tone, at least not a lot of it, so much as joyous confirmation. he had believed he could do it, of course, and he had been told as much as well. He'd used his attack and learned the words before, and he had seen it work once. But there was something about being away from that situation, his awakening and introduction, and using it on his own for the first time that really brightened his mood.

He had learned how to do something! And he did it again!

Virtus felt like he had done someone, somewhere, proud, and that was enough for him. Even if he never heard it, if Chariklo hadn't actually congratulated him on it, he still would have been happy and satisfied.

It wasn't about pride or being noticed. It was about doing a good job.

He didn't mind her ruffling his hair, laughing and then offered his hand as she introduced herself.

"My name is Sailor Virtus, Senshi of Kindness! The former current newbie to the Dark Mirror Court, I guess you could say!" He laughed at his joke, thinking that at least gave them something in common, even though technically everyone was a newbie at some point.

Technicalities never really slowed him down.

"If you don't mind my asking, what did happen for you to get bitten like that? I saw in a movie once, people biting people, but I turned over because there was a lot of blood and I didn't think my rabbits would like all the screaming." That, and zombie movies were not really something he had on demand. "Though you weren't screaming so clearly it's not the same thing!"

Grinning widely, Chariklo couldn't help the burble of laughter that trickled out of her. Really, this kid was way to adorable.

"Well, Sailor Virtus, Senshi of Kindness, I owe you one," she replied amiably. As he spoke, she studied him closely, noting that while he was quite the cutie, her reaction to him was less wanting to flirt and more wanting to protect him from the world and treat him like a baby brother. Funny. And when he mentioned rabbits, she'd had to bite down on her tongue to keep from shrieking with amusement.

One simply did not laugh at one's Healer.

"I wanted to scream, but thought it would bring in more trouble," she admitted ruefully. "As for what got me, just some old, likely drug riddled homeless dude. I guess I looked like a good target when he saw me."

Some instinct told her not to mention exactly how she'd gotten away. She didn't need her new friend thinking she was some bloodthirsty monster, after all. Instead, she gracelessly steered the conversation to a much safer topic.

"So tell me about your rabbits."

Virtus was very used to people thinking he was strange, though he liked it best when people decided he was worth protecting or being nice to. Most of the time, people did act nicely, and they often returned the kindness he showed them to the best of their ability. He was always thankful just to talk to people, make them happy, and make friends.

He found he didn't really need much else. Hell, he didn't even need for them to call him a friend, so long as they let him call himself it. Return was not the top of his priorities, and he did what he could to make others smile without really expecting anything in return. Just the knowledge that he was doing good was enough for him.

In a way, it might have been a selfish way to operate, but the idea was too abstract to ever really occur to him. He didn't see things so black or white, anyway. He was just being himself, and everyone else was being who they were.

Simple.

"Oh, that doesn't sound very fun. I'm very sorry he hurt you, and I'm glad you're okay! Well, at least now you are!" He smiled brightly and then looked almost like he was going to burst.

"Oh! My rabbits are very nice. Well, one is shy, but they're all soft and cute. Lop ears. Stink, Rabbit, and Fluffers."

He wasn't the best at naming things.

"You should meet them some time! I promise they won't bite."

"I would love to meet them sometime. As long as they don't piss on me, I'm sure I'll like 'em," she replied with a friendly laugh. "Maybe I'll bring 'em some carrots or bananas as a peace offering."

Rabbits liked that stuff, right? The only frame of reference she had to go by was a rabbit she'd played with once when she was like... 5. That furry monster had almost bitten her fingers off to get at the banana she'd been eating at the time.

Forcing her mind back to business, she flashed Virtus a wide grin. If he'd been the newbie before her, he might have some tips. IT was worth checking anyway.

"So, is there anything I should know more about as far as patroling goes?" she asked. "I mean, like, any areas that should be avoided or people that it's cool to trust not to kill me or anything?"

Virtus laughed and nodded his head. He would have to make sure they weren't scared when they saw her. He imagined she would like them, though, as they were cute little rabbits and friendly for the most part. Save a little skittish behavior from one, but that was fair in a rabbit.

It was kind of part of their charm.

"They would love that! They really like treats like that, and will probably fall in love with you immediately! You're very nice, so all you have to do is show them that and they'll be won over!"

Maybe he was judging her without knowing her, but he always saw the best in everyone. And because she was talking to him she clearly was nice and that was good enough for him. In a puppy dog way, that also made them friends. At least in his head.

He looked thoughtful at her question. he had never helped someone like this before! Advice was easy to give, but he wanted to make sure it was good and helpful, and not just vague. Patting her on the shoulder and telling her to get energy and not let the White Moon bully her was good, but she'd probably already heard it.

"There are people on the Negaverse, Chaos like us, that are really cool! They're helping me get stronger. And some of the White Moon senshi and knights do like talking, but some of them still prefer to fight so being careful is good," so he gave her the advice he thought was too obvious, but it wouldn't be so if it wasn't good, right? "And I find the park and alleys have the best targets for energy! Sleeping people are basically all I target..."

Sometimes patrols took a very long time.

Chariklo listened carefully to whatever advice Virtus could give. Sure, some of it sounded horribly obvious, but still. He was helping her. And at the mention of the Negaverse people, her curiosity quickly rose up. She'd definitely have to look for some of those guys. And keep an eye open for any White Moons who didn't mind talking. Though she was a brash and aggressive girl, Chariklo thought that she might enjoy trying to use words instead of fists.

Giving a little nod as she processed the information, the tall girl grinned. Compliments and information all in the same breath. Oh yeah, she was going to like Virtus.

"Well, you're certainly helpful," she replied in a friendly drawl, resisting the urge to ruffle the boy's hair any further. "And I'll remember to lay some treats aside for your fluffy friends."

It was getting late and Arilee did have some stupid test first thing in the morning. If she didn't want to deal with the Wrath of the Math Teacher, she needed sleep.

"I have to book," she said apologetically. "But seriously, dude, thanks for the help tonight, healing and otherwise. I owe you."

With a wink and cheerful wave, Chariklo turned and darted back the way she'd come. But she had every intention of tracking Virtus down later and giving him the biggest bag of rabbit treats ever.

"They would love the thought!" he smiled and laughed, thinking of his rabbits. They loved nice treats like carrots, and he did not give too many, too often. It was like candy to them, and they would not stop eating if they were given half a chance.

Silly things.

"Have a good night! And you don't owe me anything, I was using my powers because that's what I'm supposed to do! And I'm always glad to help, so if you ever need me, just let me know."

It was not often that Virtus could offer his services, as limited as they were. He was not the guy to call if a fight was too difficult, and more fists were needed. He was the guy to call, though, if one was hurt or if one needed a scapegoat. Either way.

He waved as she left, smiling and watching her go, thinking he had had a very good night, because he'd managed to make a friend. And that was really the best thing he could ask for, when it came down to it. He was easy to please.
