You may have seen the OBEY merchandise advertised in posters, clothing, videos, and pictures. The clothing line has become really trendy in the past few years and it is becoming ubiquitously influential among the nation. Whether deliberate or unintentional, every time you see the word "OBEY" printed very prominently on a shirt or wherever you happen to see it, it has a definite impact on your subconscious mind which picks up on it and accepts the message. Advertising companies know through persistent displaying of a certain product, motto, or image that it will have an effect on a human's mind which is why advertising exists. The word "OBEY" will associate in your subconscious mind as a form of being submissive and acquiescent to authority, thus making people more docile and "easier to control". For those of you against the N.W.O. agenda, these subtle traces of manipulation are present everywhere. Teenagers in high school are known to ostentatiously flaunt the style of wearing "OBEY" clothing (shirts, hats, sweaters, etc.) to the extent where it makes other people feel as if they're not wearing the merchandise then they're not accepted into certain "popular" groups or society in general and that they're supposed to fit this mold of pretentious trendy fashion. This pushy mental attitude about the "OBEY" clothing and other types of clothing has been dominating over people and you will begin to see it even more present as time goes by. I'm not saying that there is something we should do about it, but keep this in mind the next time you happen to see the word posted on an advertisement...

On the flip-side, such imagery undermines the internet; seeing that image so many times will condition our minds to dismiss information we get from a computer. But really it's no different than consulting a book; regardless of the format (verbal, written, digital, etc...), it's just a thought being shared. How do we know the true identity and intention of the source? is it a truthful person with the intention to better mankind or a deceptive person trying to get us to destroy/distrust each other? We can only tell in hindsight if an article, news report, or documentary is propaganda, judging by the consequences or results of trusting that information.

side note: obedience to whom should be the concern. Obedience to man and fleshly desires (greed, murderous anger, lust) leads to problems. Obedience to the Spirit (YHWH) results in the edification and protection of the human race as a whole. There are positive consequences when humans obey/submit to the Spirit.

Quote:
Galatians 5:22-23 (NIV)

22 But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, forbearance, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, 23 gentleness and self-control. Against such things there is no law.

Given that the different advertisements for "OBEY" and different pictures for it are somehow linked to politics (You can find images of the "OBEY" stamp with Obama next to it) I have no other option than to assume that the obedience is meant for that particular form of authority which I suppose can be a good thing but potentially a bad thing as well depending on what your perspective of it is. Example:

I'm pretty pissed all these hipsters and skateboarders have hijacked the 'Obey' logo and overused it to the fact everytime i go college or chill with my friends someone in the groups rocking an Obey sweater or snapback. s**t, even my sister got me a 'Obey' sweater. I think you're overthinking it though.

You should check out the actual origins of the whole 'obey' movement. If you're into street art and graffiti then you've probably heard of Banksy, correct. He does a lot of orwellian type anti government political inspired conterversial street art which has made him the most famous street artist in the world.

A few years back a super awesome documentary on street art through the eyes and camera of a french migrant to america about Banksy and street art was released and in the movie there's a large segment about the main guy of the whole film's involvement with 'Shepard Fairey' , who created the whole 'Obey' thing by placing large stickers and murals of a cartoon 'Andre the giant' with the words Obey underneath him.

Even though it's literal and it's out there you're not supposed to take it seriously.

Here's a quote from the guy Shepard Fairey's website

''"The sticker has no meaning but exists only to cause people to react, to contemplate and search for meaning in the sticker." The website later goes on to contradict this statement however by saying that those who are familiar with the sticker simply find humor and enjoyment from its presence. Those who actually try to look deeper into its meaning only burden themselves and often end up condemning the art as an act of vandalism from an evil, underground cult.''

It's just an overrated piece of street art from an overrated street artist which after 15 or so years of existence has found its way onto sweaters and snapbacks as a sort of fashion statement of being indie or a hipster or whatever.

Don't overthink it.

Plus the guy who created the Obey logo also created that famous 'obama hope' image. there's no conspiracy about it.

The message with the eye graphic says:

"OBEY
Never trust your own eyes,
believe what you are told"

On the one hand, it sounds like a message to trust no one but yourself. The bombardment of such imagery is going to develop an unhealthy amount of cynicism in some. On the other hand, it could act as a lightbulb moment for others by encouraging them to seek the truth, and not just accept things blindly, but honestly investigate the issue no matter how it's been painted.

I don't see this working for (or towards) blind obedience, but the opposite; the design and colors would instigate anger towards the message (obey) and on top of that, obedience is not something we generally like to do. It would inspire rebellion. If anything, people would get peer-pressured to obey the rebellious majority. Those who appear to be docile and acquiescent would get harassed.

I get the feeling that this is a planned manipulation to get us acting all "anarchist", encouraging uprisings, even if we start out peaceful they'll send in people to aggravate the protesters, instigating some violence while masquerading as one of us, we get painted in a negative light, they get an excuse to bring in more military control and take away some freedoms.

It's a hipster thing. The logo looks cool and is 'trendy' therefore people wear it out of peer pressure. It's not instigating anything to do with anarchy or revolution. You guys are overthinking things. Learn the origins of the whole 'obey' franchise and you'll learn that it's nothing but a piece of famous street art from Shepard Fairey which was created so many years ago it's just suddenly been repopularised through hats and sweaters.

Regardless of it being "a hipster thing", images/symbols/colors have an effect on people. It does inspire rebellion. When people see it on a t-shirt, or on the side of a building, they're not going to think "pointless". They're going to perceive a message. I'm thinking about what effect that may have.

This whole situation is just bad: for one, it's irresponsible to lead people into a spirit of rebellion and distrust just for the sake of "fun". Secondly, when people find out the truth about the "obey" movement (if they decide to research it, that is), that would be a discouragement of the act they just committed (thinking beyond, which the very poster implied they should do).

I never knew of how it originated but now I know, thanks. That puts together the other side of the puzzle. Despite the origin or it's actual meaning behind the term and art, the word will seep into your subconsciousness regardless and what ever it decides to associate with that word afterwards will be up to the individual I suppose...
