Name: Feden
Age: 18
Gender: Male
Sexual Orientation: Bisexual
Craft/Rank: Apprentice Farmer, Candidate
History: Feden was born on a simple Farming Hold, the eldest of five- and his family’s only son. When he was younger, he was responsible for keeping his little sisters out of trouble, and thus was very close to the girls. They were his dearest and closest friends, and as such, Feden never bothered to make other friends. All of his free time was spent combing over the lands in search of firelizard eggs (to no avail, of course), and trying to keep the girls safe.
At twelve, Feden lost most of the free time he’d previously had. Rather than taking off an adventures, he worked as an apprentice Farmer, learning to till the land and sow seeds. His large build made him an incredible adept farmer- he spent most of his days out in the fields, growing hard and strong as the day moved on. When it had grown too dark to work any longer, Feden helped his mother tend to his sisters once more, and did his best to keep the family well-off.
Due to the close-knit nature of his family, Feden got along well with- and adored- most of his family. He and his two younger sisters were the closest of friends, and he still cares very deeply for them. While he is emotionally closer to his mother, he has a great deal of respect for his father (also a farmer), and wants nothing more than to make the man proud. The only family member he struggles with is his grandmother, who feels he needs to get out and find a nice girl, and give her some great-grandchildren to raise. This does nothing but embarrass and upset Feden, who will often times take extra work rather than be around his grandmother.
Feden was searched at seventeen, and moved to Malvren soon after. He mostly focuses on his chores, and therefore hasn’t had much time to socialize.
With the advent of Thread once more, Feden is... desperately afraid of the stuff. He knows how damaging it can be to crops and livestock, and greatly fears his family's well-being during threadfall. His sisters especially come to mind- part of the reason Feden is willing to, and hoping to, impress a dragon is to keep them safe from any imminent danger. He is of the opinion that AIVAS never should've been used, since it got rid of the regularity of it. It is an opinion he will keep to himself, however, since getting a job done is more important than arguing about it.
Description: Feden is LARGE, in every sense of the word. He’s barrel-chested and has large arms, from years of labor in the fields. His skin is well tanned, with spots of dark freckles littering his arms and face. Due to many days of work, his once reddish hair has been significantly lightened, and resembles a color that could nearly be platinum. Unfortunately, the poor boy has a ridiculous farmer’s tan, and tends to hide the tan lines as often as possible. His eyes are a rich brown color, though he very rarely makes eye contact with anyone.
Personality: Feden is essentially the Pernese equivalent of Ferdinand the Bull; the boy is large and looming, but doesn’t have a bone of malice in his body. He thinks himself unintelligent, and thus tries to avoid conversation with people as much as possible. In this way, he seems very standoffish to people he meets, and doesn’t know how to rectify this. While he’d love to correct misassumptions about him being a jerk, he’s far too nervous to take people’s time and correct them.
Underneath the nervous exterior, Feden is a boy who finds himself enamored by the world he’s in. Since his arrival at Malvren, he has done his best to learn about the environment and the culture there- especially the dragons. His mother, when he was young, told him stories about dragons and their riders, and he’s absolutely fascinated by them. While he doesn’t have the nerve to actually talk to a rider, he does… slow down, when walking, to observe any dragons he happens to pass. One of his greatest dreams is to interact with a dragon, and if he’s lucky, ride one. But good things happen to those who work hard, and Feden intends to bust his butt to prove himself.
One way to open Feden up to conversation is talking about stories and songs, or dragons. If approached on the topic of something he loves, he tends to get enthusiastic- maybe overly so. The conversation won’t last long, since Feden gets horrifically nervous about himself, but it’s definitely a start on becoming his friend. He also has an easier time getting along with girls, typically ones younger than himself, because of the family environment he was raised in.
If someone does manage to become Feden’s friend, he is endlessly devoted and loyal to them. While he isn’t the type to go out seeking trouble, if a friend of his were to get in trouble… well, those big farmer’s fists would be put to a different use. He struggles with being unbiased when it comes to the people he trusts, and can very easily get himself into trouble if a friend of his has done wrong. If someone he cares for lies to him, Feden will believe and defend them to the very end.
If and when he discovers they’ve lied to them… Feden is not the type to forgive easily.
When not in dramatic situations, Feden loves listening to his friends. He isn’t one to give advice, but he will gladly listen to their stories, their problems… even just listening to them talk about nothing. It’s hard for him to buddy up to someone, but when he does, he absolutely loves being around them. You could ask Feden to carry supplies for you all day, and he’d gladly do so, happy just to have the company and someone to listen to.
He thinks Fire Lizards are the cutest things on Pern. On one occasion, he ticked off one of his sisters by telling her she was cuter than a fire lizard.
Feden still doesn’t understand why she gave him a black eye.
Pros: Loyal, Great Listener, Hard to anger, Helpful, Kind
Cons: Cripplingly shy, incredibly self-conscious, bad speaker, naïve, biased to a fault
Other: Feden is actually INCREDIBLE at math- he has a head for numbers and finance like you wouldn’t believe. He is completely unaware of this, however, thinking that his knowledge of numbers is just “deadglow farmhand stuff”. It is a talent he will never realize unless someone explains it to him.
