Ufisadi liked to think he was a patient lion. Jokes and pranks were sometimes best served over the course of weeks, even months. He knew he could wait and enjoy his victory, savor it, and begin plotting his next 'attack'. He had done it for his whole life, really. But waiting for this...waiting for the key to unlocking his true power was so incredibly difficult he didn't know what to do.

It seemed like he had spent years waiting, when in reality it was probably only two weeks or so at the most. Ufisadi had continued life as normally as he could, but when he was waiting on a goddess to come to him and bless him with some crazy power, how was he supposed to be patient? Still, he tried his very best not to look around the savanna while he was bored and suppressed the urge to sacrifice another calf to bring the goddess back. He didn't think she'd appreciate that very much.

Ufisaid sought refuge from the burning sun under a tree after an unsuccessful hunt, flopping onto his belly with a sigh. He wasn't terribly hungry, but he knew by nightfall he'd be ready to eat. Hunting at night was easier, but he didn't want to waste time in case the goddess returned during the evening. When did most lions summon the goddess of blood magic, anyway? Evening? Early morning? Whenever?

He ended up drifting off into a light doze as he contemplated that very serious question, half-dreaming, half-awake.

Today, there would be no loud, breaking thunder. The only movement in the air was a slow breeze carrying hot wind from the west. The savannah stank of dust.

The large, foreboding form of a goddess was gone. Horns no longer spiraled from a strong skull. Her hair, black like ink, draped down her back and tickled her elbows as she walked. The runes were absent from blanch white fur, but unearthly pale eyes remained.

The lioness paused in front of the dozing lion, his coat a scraggly mess in comparison to her sleek body. She pondered him for a moment, tilting her head. Uuni had not seen anyone else. A solitary male, likely kept that way by his own pursuit of pranks. And likely a terrible lover. One who she was almost certain would brag about having lain with a god.

"You look comfortable." A smile. "No, don't get up."

Ufisadi blinked as someone spoke and lifted his head, ready to tell whoever it was to go away. He didn't want to be bothered until the goddess returned and he was made a better lion. He was very glad he didn't just run his mouth because, after surveying the lioness that had approached him, he realized it was her. That's right...gods could change their appearance, couldn't they?

"Ah...as comfortable as you can be on a day like today," he said, stretching out as nonchalantly as he could. Now that she wasn't bigger than him and missing her horns she didn't seem quite as intimidating. Her eyes, however, were still kind of freaky.

"I was starting to think you had forgotten," he said as he got up to a seated pose. She was a goddess, after all. He could afford to be at least a bit respectful. "Then again, I'm sure you're busy."

Kaelyndra
Quite all right~ Take your time.

"No, sadly," Uuni answered, eyes flicking towards the sky, "I haven't forgotten." Wouldn't that be nice? She was sure no one would come pester her, ever.

The goddess' steps did not slow until she was close enough to touch him.

"You," she spoke out, where the tufts of his mane began to extend from the fur of his cheek, "though, I expect you to forget." Mortals had such strangely short memories for things that did not benefit them. "Time to put out, small lion." The words were strangely coarse; blunt.

Ufisadi held still as the goddess approached. Even though she was smaller, she still had that 'mightier than thou' air about her. It was odd seeing her in such a normal form without the blood-red ruins and horns and things, but he understood why she had changed. It would have been mighty hard and probably a bit dangerous to do the deed in her other form.

The bluntness of her statement made him laugh quietly and he stood, stretching his legs out a bit. He had never done this particular 'job' before and, although he was a bit nervous that he was laying with a goddess, he had confidence in his animal instincts.

"All right, all business I see. I can deal with that."

***

Deal with it he did. He ended up laying under the tree again a while later, pleased with himself but sure the goddess was rather unimpressed. He didn't mind, though. He was sure she had been around for ages and had been with lots of other lions. For his first time, he had done pretty well.

"So," he said after a while, glancing back over at the white female. "I gave you my part of the bargain. Do I need to slay another creature for you or do you just say 'it is so' or something like that and poof, it's done?"

"Ugh," was Uuni's answer. The lioness had stretched out a decent distance away. She'd been enjoying the sun, light scattered through a tree's leaves, when his grating voice had stirred her.

"If it makes you feel like you're doing something, you're welcome to go slaughter a whole herd of them." She just hoped he didn't expect to find her waiting around when he came back.

Her back cracked as she curled her claws into the dirty earth. They were clean now, absent of blood or stain.

"You already have what you want, you know," she explained with a yawn that announced he was foolish for not yet realizing it. Oh, but that wasn't good enough for him, was it? Uuni had to show him his newfound tricks.

The lioness got to her feet. "How about you test it out. Would that make you feel better?" If it kept him from trying to summon her later, it certainly made her feel better!

Ufisadi snorted quietly at the suggestion. No, if he didn't have to he didn't want to. He had to save up what little energy he now had for a serious kill to feed himself, as he hadn't eaten for a week or so. Fairly normal out here in the rouge lands, but after giving her his payment for his power, he was exhausted.

"What, I thought you said I had to hold up my end of the deal first," he said with a little snort. He stood as well and wiggled his toes, shook out his mane, and looked around. "I don't really feel any different. Just tired." But that wasn't from her magic, he was sure. It was from his own magic, oh ho ho.

"I suppose it would," he agreed with a little nod. "Let me just find something to practice on." He glanced around and squinted, trying to find something living to prank. He had a pretty impressive list of tricks up his non-existent sleeve, so while he looked he thought about what might be amusing.

I just realized I'd be making one massive post if I used one of my characters, so would you mind using one of yours?

While he preoccupied himself with looking, she shortened her jaw, shrank her muzzle until her sharpened teeth melded into a single point, and turned tail tuft into the elegant extension of a falcon's flight feathers.

The white and black falcon took a few hopping steps and then flapped its way to a high-lying limb. It creaked and swayed under her weight. If it broke, it would hardly be loss; why should she worry when she could fly?

"Don't take all day." If falcons could smile, this one surely was.

Not too far away, sounds were beginning to pick up over the treed savannah.

"I'm telling you, I didn't know it was her mother!" The lazily objectionary sound was pouring from the mouth of a grey-striped leopon. He jogged ahead of a grey and red lion, before pausing and turning his head to look back.

Csoa, shaking out his mane, observed his companion calmly but made no comment.

"I didn't figure the little t**t would throw a screaming fit and get us kicked out!" Pushing back his ears, Hanyu took two jogging steps and smacked a dirt clod with a heavy paw. It exploded in his face, leaving him coughing.

"She did not seem angry until you explained 'there is enough of Hanyu for every woman'." The grey lion had a soft, subtle smile and he passed his way by the hacking form of his friend.

"Whatever. I'm starvin'."

Ufisadi continued to scour the horizon, pausing as he noticed two figures slowly making their way in their direction. Ah...perfect. It was his lucky day. He glanced back over his shoulder to inform the goddess that he was ready to test his new skills, but she was nowhere to be found. Nowhere, that is, until the all-too familiar voice sounded from above his head. He looked up, squinting a bit past the sparse leaves that dotted the semi-dead branches of the tree.

"Okay...that shape shifty thing is gettin' kinda weird," he said, snorting softly at her current shape. Not nearly as attractive as the form she had just been in, but hey. He didn't need to get his groove on with a falcon, so why should he worry what form she decided to take? Shaking out his mane and running a paw over his face quickly to appear more presentable, he slowly strode out of the shade and towards the two males that were heading his way. He overheard just a bit of their conversation before the hybrid began to cough, and he adopted a sympathetic expression.

"I'm terribly sorry, I couldn't help but overhear," he said, bowing his head just slightly to let them know he meant no physical threat. "Are you two on your own out here in the rouge lands for the first time?" Let's see, what to do...something not too terrible since the goddess was watching from the tree. Perhaps just sending them off in the horribly wrong direction...the leotah had mentioned being hungry, and he knew the herds had just moved off to the west...yes, that would be fairly harmless. They'd realize soon enough that they had been misguided and would turn around before they starved.

Kaelyndra
They seem perfecto. Thank ya kindly =3

"Who's that?" Hanyu had been jogging to catch up with Csoa when his companion had stopped to look at an approaching brown figure.

"I'm not sure." Normally soft spoken, Csoa's voice was now barely audible. His body had become completely still and his gaze did not waver.

When the new lion bowed his head and starting jabbering, however, Hanyu jumped back to the front. "Oh, you're one of them non-threatening folks." The hair along his spine began to settle.

"We're not new at this, if that's whatcha mean." He cleared his throat. "We kinda hop from place to place."

Csoa waited until Hanyu had mostly expelled his words, before he revised what had been said. "We're new to this area."

Ufisadi lifted his head as the more rambunctious of the two relaxed. He offered a charming smile and shook his head. "No, no. I don't bring any ill will with me." He knew that even without his enhanced powers this hybrid would be as easy as a cub to trick, but his companion...that would be the challenge.

He turned his grey gaze to the darker lion, his smile relaxing just a bit. Yes, he seemed far more cool and calm. He would be the challenging one. "I see," he said with a slight nod and a flick of his tail. "I've been around here a few weeks now. It's actually quite abundant in prey, as long as you know where to look."

He glanced over his shoulder in a direction that looked very promising. There were trees and grass that suggested at a lush, tropical escape just a short journey away, but walking through it for a few hours would bring any traveler to a horribly dry, barren land. He was pretty sure one of the spookier prides lived over there was well. He couldn't remember which, but he always kept far, far away from there.

"The herd of antelope I was following went off down that way. There are a lot of newborns and quite a few old animals there, ripe for the taking. I'm sure it would be no problem for two strong men like you two to pick off a few," he said, the lie sliding off his tongue like water off a duck's feathers.

"Here?" Hanyu asked, skeptical, his eyes scanning the area. "This place?" He had one lip raised, exposing a scraggly canine and unkempt teeth.

Csoa's eyes, however, followed the direction of Ufisadi's gaze. He scanned the trees and leaned ever so slightly in their direction.

"Will you be traveling that way?" It was clearly the grey lion's question, calm and perceptive.

"Hah, Csoa, he thinks you look strong." There was an ineloquent snort from the half-breed and his grin was from ear to ear. "My pal here'd be crippled for weeks if a fly landed on his nose!" It was clearly an over-exaggeration. "Luckily, I have muscle for the both of us." This, too, was a far stretch from the truth.

Ufisadi kept a small smile on his face as the white lion expressed his disbelief and rolled his eyes very slightly in the grey lion's direction. Oh dear, how could he stand to travel with him? He was obviously very patient to put up with his companions rather childish antics.

"Oh no, I've just come from there," he said, waving a paw back in the direction he was aiming to send them. "That's why I didn't follow the herd. I wouldn't be making very good time if I backtracked, hm? No, I'm heading in that direction once the sun sets. I prefer to travel at night rather than the heat of the day." He grimaced just a bit as he nodded in the direction he was going, because he was actually about to head in that direction and it didn't look terribly promising. Halfway between where the lions had come from and where he was sending them was nothing but a few scraggly trees and some dead grass. Not exactly prime hunting grounds, and it looked like water was scarce. But he was sure it would be better than towards the 'tropical oasis'.

"Oh, he's managed to hold his own out here," Ufisadi said as he addressed the paler male. "I'm sure he's strong enough." The hybrid, though, looked a bit scrawny to be doing any serious hunting. That was just how the cross worked, though. Not as bulky as a lion. What a shame.

"Good luck with that, buddy," Hanyu whistled out. It didn't take half a brain to figure out the desolate wilderness wasn't a good place to go. Fortunate, since it could be argued that half a brain was all Hanyu had.

A slight smile perked its way over Csoa's face, changing his expression from content to amused.

"Thank you." Csoa gave their informant a polite bob of his head. "We will keep your advice in mind."

"Yeah, thanks," the leopon drawled out after, breaking into a jog that already said he was headed in the direction of the tropical forest. He turned around backwards, in an awkward display of skill, and shouted back, "Hey, bud, if you see any women, send 'em our way, yeah?"

The smile Csoa gave before leaving was likely apologetic. His even strides took him away from spotted lion and onto the path that Hanyu was forging. The leopon was looking forwards to a little shade!

Ufisadi watched the two make their way to the shaded area, bobbing his head in farewell. Ah, that had been very easy. The grey lion seemed like, without this extra power, he might have questioned him a bit more. But everything went off without a hitch. Brilliant.

"Of course, my friend," he called out happily as he waited for them to disappear out of sight. The moment they did he chuckled quietly and shook his head. Ah...that had been refreshingly delicious. Brilliant.

"All right," he said, looking up at the sky, not sure if the goddess was still even around. "Looks like everything's ship-shape. I'll just be on my way." He flicked his tail and headed off, wanting to put some distance between himself and the the other males before resting. Then, as he had said, he'd travel during the night.

Kaelyndra
That was my last one. You can put one more up if you'd like or call it there.
