Narisa and Cepheith: Initiative

They were one of the last to finally have left after loading up with firestone. The gold pair knew they should have gone straight to the small gathering near the beach. Knew being out here, a long gold dragon and rider was extremely dangerous and hugely reckless. But they had to know. Had to know just how bad things were in their Weyr. So instead of jumping between to arrive with the others, Narisa and Cepheith had flashed between to appear high in the sky above their home. From their, they made began a slow spiral that would allow them to take in as much as they could.

There is much we will have to repair. And many we have lost. The gold rumbled, usual honey-warm tones deep and filled with anger. Why? Why has this been done?

<I...I don't know. I honestly don't know.> Narisa felt her heart constrict, grip tightening on her dragon as she looked about. She was grateful for her sight not being as great as Cepheith's. The goldrider wasn't sure she could handle seeing how much worse it looked.

<Sweep a little lower, but stay alert.> Just one more circuit. And then they would report back to D'lin and Plexith.

Fi'o and Ivanhoth, Initiative

Not long after their fight with another brown and his rider, Ivanhoth and Fi'o were back out again; Ivanhoth was less than pleased with this, as His was looking more than a little worse for wear by this point. When asked, she had admitted as much herself, but had insisted that she was still able to fight. And willing, of course - she was practically always willing to fight. The brown, too, showed plenty of evidence of the battles he'd seen up to this point, but if Fi'o could keep on, then so could he! They might have been tired and sore, but that wouldn't stop them from fulfilling their purpose here.

Currently, they were standing guard at a posting outside, although neither was actually standing. Ivanhoth had lain down, and his tall and lanky rider leaned against him. Her riding leathers hid a proliferation of bruises, while also making it that much more difficult to distinguish that she was...well, actually a she. Running her tongue over her split lip, she looked up at her dragon. "See anything, Ive?"

Ivanhoth, Attacking Cepheith

As he scanned their surroundings yet again, turning his gaze to the sky last of all, Ivanhoth's heart sank. He had hoped that things might be quiet awhile longer, but that hope had been in vain. A dragon popped out from between into the air above them, and not just and dragon, but Trine's junior gold. Already he'd had a brief encounter with her, during the chaotic battle over the firestone supplies...a brief encounter with her and a few other dragons all at once!

Up there, Mine. It is Cepheith. It had to be. The brown didn't know her know her, but it was impossible to live in a Weyr and not be aware of its golds on at least some level.

Beside him, Fi'o swore. This was great, just great - the sharding gold just had to show up over their post. "Your call, Ive. Think you can take her?"

I will not know until I try. He would have a better chance this time than he had the last, that much was certain.

The brownrider thought about it for a long moment, then nodded. "Then try. Drive her down here if you can, so I can handle her rider."

After she stepped aside to give him room, Ivanhoth launched himself into the air. He didn't attempt to bespeak the gold, nor did he announce himself with some dramatic roar. He just flew up and up, as fast as he could, trying to come at her from below and behind before she took notice of him. How well he used the element of surprise could make or break his chances in this fight.

Cepheith: Attacking Ivanhoth

Narisa felt her heart sink the more she looked around. There were bound to be people trapped down there. Young and old. She'd had no word on their weyrlings. No idea of the little ones had made it to safety or.... the Goldrider shuddered and tried not to think like that.

<Cepheith- >

Her thoughts were cut off as the gold shrieked in surprise. Pain registered through their bond briefly, but rage overpowered that. Cepheith snarled, folding her wings and dropping lower to gain speed and distance. Ivanhoth! You are a traitor to your Weyr and your kin. A traitor to me. Cepheith hissed, turning her head to look towards the brown as she turned towards him with teeth and talons bared and ready to lay into his brown hide.

Ivanhoth, Attacking Cepheith

My loyalty is to my own heart, and so I have betrayed no one. Ivanhoth was growing tired of being called a traitor, when his allegiance had never changed. It hadn't always been obvious, granted, but that could be said of everyone's allegiances before the fighting began. They were all learning now just how deep the divides ran.

He followed close behind her as she dropped - too close, because it was an easy thing for her to turn and strike him. Instead of trying to defend himself, he pressed his attack, looking for any opening he might have to force her to the ground.

Cepheith: Attacking Ivanhoth

You have betrayed your home. The Queen rumbled, twisting to dive and avoid another hit by the brown. It was difficult to shake him, especially when part of the gold one's mind was on the fact she had to protect her rider from Ivanhoth's attacks. But Cepheith was terrified of setting her rider on the ground. Where she had no protection. Why? Why have you done as you have? She asked, unable to even comprehend why one of her dragons would attack their home.

More pain came from her hind legs. A roar of fury and frustration was directed at the brown. Cepheith lashed out with her hind legs, losing more altitude with the maneuver.

Ivanhoth, Attacking Cepheith

Home? What does a place matter? A place has no heart. He had not been born here, though he remembered little of the Weyr to which he had been born. It was beyond the memory of a dragon. The whers are my friends, their people are Mine's, and we will help them find the future they deserve.

This blow was harder than the last, and Ivanhoth recoiled in pain before retaliating, intent on doing as his rider had asked.

Cepheith: Attacking Ivanhoth, depositing Narisa on ground

<Cepheith...> Narisa knew her dragon didn't want to be separated from her when there was a battle taking place. But this sort of flying was testing even her abilities to stay low and out of the way. The riding straps keeping her in place and not falling off Cepheith were cutting into her painfully.

The gold bellowed in her fury. Perhaps that is why you find yourself no better then a wher! She said with disgust, lashing out with her tail to keep some distance between them. With another snarl of fury, she tucked her wings to her sides and dove down towards the ground. She didn't like this. Didn't like being out of the air or losing her rider. But Cepheith would never forgive herself this day if she caused her rider to be harmed. Be careful, mine. Please. There was pain in the gold's voice as she let her rider dismount and launched into the skies again, aiming straight for Ivanhoth.

Narisa winced as she stepped back, covering her face as her bonded leaped into the air. <I'm sorry, dear one. Truly I am. But you'll fight better like this.> Now the question was...could she keep herself in one piece down here?

Ivanhoth, Defending Against Cepheith

Ivanhoth made a sad sound at the Queen's disgust. Other dragons almost never understood, and a gold? It was hopeless to think that one born to rank would ever, ever understand. Never in their lives were golds less than anyone, except junior to senior. What they are does not make them less than us. What I am does not make me less than you.

When she went to ground to allow her rider to dismount, the brown did not follow her down; he let up his attacks, giving her a chance to do exactly what His had wanted. He basked for a moment in the approval from Fi'o, but was soon taken aback by the force with which his opponent leapt into the air and straight for him.

He tried to bank out of the way, but while he managed to avoid taking the full force of the hit, she still caught him in the hindquarters and sent him spinning in the air. He flapped his wings frantically to right himself.

Fi'o, Attacking Narisa

Yes! That was her boy! You're doing great, Ive, Fi'o sent, delighted that the brown had succeeded in 'encouraging' the gold to deposit her rider on the ground, where she would be safe...from an accident caused by fighting dragons, anyway. Not so much from bloodthirsty brownriders. Just hang in there, and be careful!

As soon as Cepheith returned to the air, Fi'o rushed the goldrider in an attempt to tackle her.

Cepheith: Attacking Ivanhoth

A part of her felt saddened by the sound the brown dragon had made. But the Queen was in too much of a fury to care beyond the thoughts of: protect her rider; protect her Weyr. Cepheith pumped her wings aggressively as she went for the higher altitude, putting her above Ivanhoth. Crimson eyes looked over the sad form of the traitor brown and the gold just shook her head and snorted.

It is what they have done that makes them less than us. The deaths they have caused unjustly. The destruction of our home. You are a fool if you cannot see this. She bared her fangs, for a brief moment spreading her wings wide and making it clear who the bigger dragon was. Then she tilted her wings and headed straight for the brown again, talons flexed and ready to tear at his hide.

Narisa: Attacking Fi'o

She watched as her dragon rocketed into the sky, feeling her own heart sink. What did it mean, to have dragon attacking dragon? But even more, how could a dragon and his rider be alright with the carnage the wherhandlers had caused upon the Weyrs? Narisa just couldn't understand it and it made her heart ache for everyone they could not save and those they didn't know the whereabouts of.

Maybe it was just luck, or she had heard a faint sound above the dragons in the sky. She turned and saw a human form coming at her. With a curse, she tried to avoid the rider - most likely the brown's rider - but an arm caught her hard in the chest, making her lose her balance. Her knee slammed into the ground as her own fist flew up out of reflex to try and connect with the brownrider.

Ivanhoth, Defending Against Cepheith

They have done it because it was the only way. No one listens to whers, no one cares if they are unhappy, and it is the same with the little dragons. Change could not come in peaceful ways, not when no one listens to us! But you would not understand what that is like.

Now that the gold's rider was on the ground with His, Ivanhoth was doing little more than buying time. Defense became his priority, but he was outmatched, and the Queen's claws raked him again.

The fist did connect, and Fi'o took the hit with a grunt. She didn't lose a beat, though, and was quick to kick hard at Narisa. She needed to take this woman down - the faster the better, given the way Cepheith was tearing into Ivanhoth.

Cepheith: Attacking Ivanhoth

Whers do not bother to bring their concerns to me. If I do not hear them how can I know they are unhappy? There is no excuse for what they have done today. Perhaps she could have had a little more empathy towards the brown on another day. But her anger was raging through her veins and her rider was in danger and her home was under siege! The gold dragon could not see beyond this, her protective instincts running in overdrive. Protect her rider. Protect her Weyr.

Cepheith looped around the brown to come up on his other side. Twisting in the air, she went for his wings this time, her intent similar to that of Ivanhoth's before. Ground him.
