Ok so what is the highest rank in your martial art and who controls it?and i mean students not instructors. The highest rank is 2nd degree blackbelt in my Tae Kwon Do school and the ones holding it are me and a guy named Nathan.

In my karate class, the highest rank is an eighth degree black belt held by me, and in aikido there is a different class system. We go by que's and it's backwards starting from five. I also hold the highest rank which is first que and that equals a black belt in any other martial arts. In teakwondo, I'm tied with someone for fifth degree black belt. *breaths* Lots of hard work.

Sorry, but I find that hard to believe unless you are 60-70 and have been studying all your life. Also, when you say 'que' do you mean 'kyu'? 1st kyu is the top level for the kyu rankings, but 1st dan is one step above 1st kyu. And when most people say 'black belt' they are reffering to 1st dan. The highest ranked students at my dojo are yon dan (4th degree). We just had a seminar, which included testing, and a bunch of students passed for the next rank ^_^

I'm the senior student at my dojo with a 4th dan. My cousin, Scott, is next with 3rd dan. We're getting ready to test two guy for 2nd dan pretty sonn. Our system goes to 10th dan. I'll probably never see it, but it'll be fun trying. 3nodding

I was recently tested for 1st dan and yes I did mean 1st kyu, sorry for the misspelling. I've been studying karate sinse I was four along with the other martial arts I take. I think I've learned a lot more because it was a mostly one-on-one teaching dojo.

Ok. First of all one needs to understand that my school, Chinese Martial Arts and Health centre is a country wide school here in South Africa. All the schools are in contact with one another and often students visit schools in different parts of the country.
The Durban school (my school) has only been open for almost four years, and I am the most senior student AT THIS PARTICULAR BRANCH, not in the whole system. I have been training here since the school opened and am now in Yellow T-shirt.
Morrigen...

The top rank in our style is a 10th degree blackbelt (or a grand master) This generation it is being held by master Joseph Kellijun... he's really getting old though and I dont have the faintest idea who he'll leave the position to confused
Then there's the Kenjuitsu class... I'm pretty much even with my former teacher and his other top student. We dont have ranks in that so...

Uh.. top rank?.. I don't think there IS any top rank in Kung Fu.. and we don't have belts and "degree"s like in other martial arts.. Shifu lets you study on a higher level/advance when he thinks you're capable of it.. this means that even if we're studying in "groups" (mostly age based) we can't move on with techniques until shifu knows we can take hits and blows that counts for the next "Level" and that we're strong enough, our vitality(?) is good enough and our reflexes good enough.. This means that if you're unlucky, you'll NEVER advance.. there is a personal limit to what a certain person can and can not do.... so.. I guess.. there is no "top rank".... sweatdrop .. sorry for my bad english, please forgive me, I'm a chinese girl living in Sweden...
