Look! Fireworks!
"I am so exhausted!" Sky threw down her book bag on her bed and plopped down on her bed. Since she arrived at Hogwarts, things have just been bustling--and coming from a non-magical family, the whole thing was quite a bit to take in... To be honest, Sky was feeling overwhelmed and she hated being like that--it seemed like she wasn't being adaptable enough. But everything was just so foreign to her! It was odd not recognizing anyone when she previously went to school with the same people--not to mention, she had to deal with those cursed moving staircases! This place was barely navigable without the building changing!
Ignoring her fatigue, Sky stood back up and took a good glance around her room. There were a few other beds up in this wing of the tower--all the rest of them first year Ravenclaw. Even though she saw the other girls every single day in classes, she still hadn't really talked to one of them one on one. Perhaps it was because she never was that good at... well, being nice--and girls generally didn't like being scoffed and looked down on.
I haven't even said anything mean yet, Sky crinkled her brow a bit, taking a glance at herself in the mirror. I don't look too stern, Sky frowned deeper, a bit frustrated. Maybe she was intimidating? Bringing her fingers to her face, Sky pinched and pulled at her cheek, trying to change the girl in the mirror. "Boo!" Exasperated, Sky threw up her hands in the air and plopped back down on her bed.
I'm going to talk to the next girl that enters, Sky made it a mission for herself--now absolutely determined to make some sort of dumb small talk. At least then she couldn't say she didn't try to be friendly!

Amerilla waved in the general direction of the common room as she turned upstairs. She didn't particularly expect anyone to care, but thought that being polite was essential anyway. Gathering her things close to her, she bounded up the stairs and threw open the door.
As she walked inside, Lia's eyes slid right over Sky. Instead, her eyes alighted on her bed, and the notebook resting on it. Grinning and dropping her bag by the door, she pounced on her bed. "Fluffy!" she exclaimed, patting the pillows. Finally, Lia spotted Sky. Slowly she blushed. "O-oh! I'm sorry, I didn't- I didn't know you were there..."
She turned her head, embarrassed she hadn't noticed the other girl. Sneaking a peek, Lia recognized her from classes. Oddly enough, they hadn't really interacted before. As far as Lia was concerned, that was a failure on her part. I should be friends with her... But if she think I'm weird already it isn't worth it... Sighing in exasperation, Lia turned back slowly to face Sky. "Hi. I'm Amerilla, but you could probably call me Lia." she said, smiling politely at the other girl.

Sky was a bit surprised when the door swung open--what an entrance! She couldn't help but snicker as the girl flung herself on the bed. "They are very fluffy, aren't they?" Sky observed, patting the bed with her hand. She mostly spoke because Sky had a feeling that the other girl hadn't spotted her yet... and just as she thought, when their eyes met, Amerilla blushed. "It's okay, I did the same thing--though I don't think I flew as far as you did," Sky grinned, nodding in her direction. "I'm Sky, it's nice to meet you, Lia."
Who would've known? Making conversation wasn't that hard--at least not with this girl. Sky thought Amerilla was cute, getting so embarrassed from just throwing herself across the bed. So innocent, Sky smiled at her--it was a refreshing trait for someone to have, especially since at her private school all the girls were stuck up snobs (including herself).
She was just about to ask how Lia's first day was when she caught sight of something yellow slithering near the other Ravenclaw girl's bed. "I sincerely hope you don't mind snakes," Sky said dryly, standing up from her bed and walking over to where Lia was. "The python behind you is Quetzalcoatl and he might try to eat your hair--I think his tongue is getting rusty," Sky admitted, rolling her eyes at the snake who just stared up at her.

Lia smiled gratefully over at Sky as she introduced herself. "Nice to meet you!" She was only glad that Sky didn't appear to think she was strange for jumping on her bed.
Fiddling with her notebook, she glanced over at Sky again. She didn't seem to be shy, like Lia's original assumption. Perhaps Sky just wanted to be focused during classes, which she respected. Even though Lia was pretty much a space cadet, she liked classes and the learning that came with them.
As Sky stood up, Lia let her words sink in. "A-a what? You didn't say snake, did you?" she whispered, dreading turning around. But she couldn't risk the possibility that Sky hadn't been joking. Slowly looking behind her, Lia let out a mix between a squeak and a scream, jumping off the bed and towards the door. "S-s-SNAKE!" she squealed.

Sometimes, Sky forgot that some people disliked snakes--this was one of those times. When Lia ran out of the room shrieking, Sky was dumbfounded for a few seconds. "W-wh..." What a violent reaction! It was just Quetzalcoatl there and he was basically harmless! "That's fantastic," she muttered sarcastically (underneath her breath, of course), picking up Quetzalcoatl off from Lia's bed and placing him on her own before looking around for the other Ravenclaw girl.
Sky found Lia near the girl's room doors. "Are you alright?" Sky inquired out of politeness--of course the girl was alright. Quetzalcoatl just blinked at her. My ears are kinda ringing, she noticed--man, that girl could really shriek loudly... "If I knew you were afraid of snakes, I would have said something earlier..." Sky explained lamely, "Sometimes I forget that seeing a python isn't something normal for most--but you really should know that Quetzalcoatl's harmless." Sky decided to exclude the fact that Quetzal attacked a Ravenclaw boy's pony tail the other day.
"I'll try to keep him on my bed in the future though," Sky promised--specifically only saying "try" because she knew how stubborn Quetzalcoatl could be about where he decided to sit.
