When Lysander woke up that Saturday morning, later than he normally would, he knew that today would not be a good day. Out the window he could see snow lightly falling. Pleasant. But it made him cold. A tower so tall and thin barely held in any of the heat. Well, not enough heat for Lysander anyway, who always seemed to be cold. He spent what was left of his morning curled beneath his blankets, reading one of the many non-school related books he kept nearby.

Lysander sniffled from the cold and rubbed at his bad eye, frowning as the patch scratched against his skin. No, today was not going to be good. Bored and a bit hungry, he tossed his book further into his covers and dug around in his bedside drawers, pulling out a pumpkin pasty to nibble on. He supposed now would be a good time to get dressed, so he'd be ready on time for dinner. Besides, some of his dorm mates tended to get annoyed when he stayed in the room for no reason. He made just enough noise from all his grumbling to disturb their weekend slumber.

He pulled on his most comfortable trousers and his soft gray shirt before slipping on his shoes to head into the common room. He pulled his hair back with a ribbon as he walked down the stairs, hoping that there would be someone to talk to about a subject other than the lunch he must have missed.

Now what haaaavvvee we have heeere? Quetzacoatl observed, dark eyes moving steadily after the human boy. Normally, it would just be another passerby--something that Quetzacoatl had long gotten used to... but this boy was different. There was something that caused Quetzalcoatl to move from his resting place--his throne--up on one of the raven's pillars (the ones leading into the bookroom).

This boy had some sort of bouncing fluffy creature hanging from his head!

Quetzalcoatl slithered down from his perch, his long body stretching and contracting till he reached the ground. From that point, he slithered up a chair... waiting motionlessly for the boy and the bouncing creature to pass him...

Three... two... one! And Quetzalcoatl threw himself towards the back of the boy's head--towards the fluffly bouncing creature and locked his jaws down on the tuft.

"Bury all your secrets in my skin," Sky sang to herself softly as she pulled one of the books from the Common Room's shelves. "Come away with innocence and leave me with my sins..." This book seemed interesting enough--about the history of Rowena Ravenclaw... "The air around me still feels like a cage...." Or maybe she should pick this one--it was about the wizarding world in Romania...

"What about this one, Quetzalcoatl?" Sky inquired to her snake, knowing that he was just outside. When she didn't hear anything behind her, Sky glanced around. "Quetzal?" Now where did that silly boy go? She wondered, holding the two books in her hand as she walked back towards the main area of the common room. Just as she did, she saw a yellow tail slipping around a corner. "Where are you going?" Sky walked after the slithering snake, "I was talking to you--"

Sky stopped in her tracks and her eyes narrowed. There was someone here!? She could have sworn she was alone--when did Lysander get here? He didn't hear me singing... did he?--Oh, what does it matter! Sky hushed her thoughts and crossed her arms. Though she never spoke to Lysander before, she knew his name because he was pretty hard to miss--with the eyepatch and all. Of course she was curious about why he had that, but even Sky wasn't that tactless. "Lysander? I didn't know you--" She started, only to pause in mid sentence--what is...?!

"Quetzalcoatl!"

But it was too late.

As Lysander got closer and closer to the bottom of the steps, he was able to hear more and more clearly someone singing. It was soft and far away sounding, and he was a bit surprised to hear it. Since people didn't usually sing in public, he could only assume that meant the common room was empty, save the singer. Was everyone still at lunch? He had figured there was no way he could make it in time, but if the common room was practically empty then maybe it meant there was more time then he thought.

The singing cut off when he reached the bottom landing and they started talking. A girl, obviously, but who was her companion? Did he walk in on one of those romance things? Serenades? Was he ambushing someone's serenade? Well, he'd better start apologizing now.

"I'm terribly sorry, didn't mean to intru- oh. Hello Sky." Apparently he wasn't intruding on anyone's romance. Well, that was fine by him. No need to apologize now, because he didn't particularly care one way or another about intruding someone's personal private show. He wasn't exactly sure why she had decided to sing in the common room when anyone could enter through the door. Though it was unexpected of him to come from the stairs. He was about to ask her what she was doing, even though it had been obvious by her singing and the books cradled in her arms, but she suddenly shrieked at him and the loud, unexpected noise made him jump a bit in surprise.

Unfortunately, it wasn't the only surprise. A yellow and white blur launched itself seemingly from out of the wall and latched onto his hair. He let out an undignified yelp and stumbled backwards, banging his shoulder against the wall on his way down. He landed with his back against the bottom step, and he head was forced backwards with the weight. Whatever this thing was, it was heavy!

"Ow ow ow ow ow" He hissed, grimacing, before reaching back at whatever it was hanging onto him. His hand touched some scales and he thought he heard hissing and his entire body froze. His eye, wide as it's ever been, darted around in it's socket, before finding Sky, and he bit his lips and let out a low whimper.

Quetzalcoatl hissed. What was this thing? It was a bunch of fluff! He hissed before spitting out the remainder of hair from his lips to glare scathingly at the ball of hair. And the boy was making such a racket too! Quetzalcoatl slithered away from the boy's head and towards Sky's feet, his eye still steadily on the puff ball--ready to strike if that thing tried anything funny again.

"Quetzalcoatl!" Sky protested again, watching the snake drag the poor boy flat. From the look of things, Lysander wasn't the happiest camper--he looked absolutely terrified and Sky felt a wallop of guilt explode in the bottom of her stomach. "I'm so sorry, Lysander!" Sky ran over to kneel by the boy, shooing away Quetzalcoatl. "He must've thought your hair was some sort of rodent--I swear he doesn't do that usually!" Sky used her hands to help lift Lysander into a sitting position, touching his head tentatively--just to make sure Quetzalcoatl hadn't hit something important. No blood... thank god, Quetzal's aim hasn't deteriorated!--though his eyesight surely has! Sky shot a dirty look at the snake.

"Are you alright, Lysander?" Sky inquired after helping him up--the poor kid looked completely bewildered still... And he usually looks so arrogant and composed to, Sky couldn't help but observe, feeling a little bit lucky that she could see Lysander without dealing with the flirts and the obnoxious charade. "It doesn't look like you hurt your head--did you hit anything else?"

By now, since she knew Lysander was alright, it was just about taking Sky all she had not to let out an amused smile or a chuckle. The smooth Lysander--the heart-throb of the first years... Oh, how I wish cameras worked here!
