It was the middle of another beautiful day, the sun was hanging in the sky like a ripe peach in a sea of blue. He stood on the rocky outcrop just short of the cave he had been staying in since Kaiya had left on a personal errand. He hadn't wanted to let her go somewhere alone, but she chided him on his overprotectiveness, pointing out that she had been taking care of herself for far longer than he'd been at her side. He had to accept this as truth of course, she had been around since way before he had even come out of his basket! He wrinkled his nose, but still... He was young and still quite brash when it came to fights, and it definitely showed, shiny pink scars traced across his ebony pelt, all had healed over marvelously thanks to Kaiyas help and his regular application of poultices.
He hadn't gotten in too many scuffles since she had been gone, it had only been a few days, and though he was but a knight in training, not many things were willing to scuffle with someone that looked as he did. still, there was that one... He flattened one ear in remembrance of the great angenilona he had met, never had he encountered one such as him, and he hadn't been what he appeared to be either... He was certainly glad that they hadn't come to blows, even if he was trained in combat, he wouldn't have come out unscathed there...For once he understood very well why it was best not to assume by appearances, especially for him.
Tannin peered over the land he could see, making sure all was peaceful and halfway searching for that familiar smiling golden face to be coming back for him.

Luckily for Tannin, the spirits would indeed favor the young stallion with a bit of luck. The softest sound of bells could be heard coming from the west, as if there was some music upon the wind. It was a most peculiar angeni trait, and something one might have missed had they not been paying attention or blatantly chose to ignore. To some the sound might bring comfort, to others, disgust or fear. Not everyone welcomed a pure angeni with an open heart and mind, after all. . . .
Picking her way slowly through the familiar territory, the mare was looking more or less in her typical fashion. She was a touch disheveled, but that came along with the territory. There were a few new wounds, scars, scrapes and cuts obtained by travel. But perhaps what was off about her, was her . . aura. Her presence. Though she was pleased to see Tannin had not gotten himself killed, there was a newfound shadow in her glowing golden and silver gaze.
As she spotted the glowing green-gaze of her mentee, the angeni gave a small nicker. She was quick to find a smile, inwardly delighted by the knowledge that, for a few moments, she had returned home. Home was wherever her hooves seemed to fall when she walked alone, but when she had the companionship of another, it amazed her how swiftly she found herself defining such a term with their presence.
"I see you are still in one piece," she greeted amicably as she picked her way towards the bone-legged stallion. "I dare say the spirits have blessed you with patience to wait for my return." It was very possible the stallion could have left her completely, to continue his journey without her, to find others who might better aid his dream. Kaiya wouldn't have blamed him if he had. Her life was not an easy lifestyle to follow, and though she was sure she had much she could continue to teach him, she was realistic to know there would come a time when they would part. As she had with Galahad, she would make sure they lived their own life and not merely shadow hers.

His heart soared gladly with the sounds of those bells, his ears pricked forward to hear every note. He knew that sound belonged to the angeni, who was his mentor and companion. He saw her coming towards him, her dark and gold catching the light, she was always beautiful, as he supposed angeni were, he smiled as she nickered at him in greeting, and he responded back, happy to see her and nearly as equally to find a smile upon her face.
" As are you" he said, smiling crookedly "for the most part anyway, i'm very glad you've returned" though his eyes were bright in the shadows of his helm, noting every new injury upon her flank with worry. " I have oodles of patience to wait for one such as you my mentor, spirits aside, you should know I am not swayed from my path as easily as all that. I simply kept the area under watch while you were gone."
He tilted his head, though she seemed her normal self, there was something that had changed...somehow she was and wasn't herself, it was a hesitation in her being, a flicker in her eyes, the eyes told most of all that something, somehow, was amiss. But he would not inquire, not yet, if she wanted to tell him something she would, spirits! he certainly had his own secrets to keep. But there was so much that he did not know about Kaiya, and so much that he wanted to know. It kindled somewhere in his heart as if he had a fire in his body the same as his father before him.
So he went for a more neutral approach " How was your journey?"

[+Katch+] ((Look at this tagging spree! )) The angeni couldn't help but smile warmly as the stallion spoke. He surely was a dutiful stallion, and it did warm her heart that the spirits had blessed her a second time with such a devoted student. Galahad had been sweet and had walked with her for years before she finally turned him loose on to the world. Had she not needed to attend some person matters, it was quite likely the stallion would have continued to stick by her side. . . . Ah, but that was neither here nor there. She had done him well, and she was certain (whenever she sought him out) that he would do her proud. Besides, the unicorn's loss had made room for her to focus best on her new ward, Tannin Nox. . . . It appeared as if the spirits wished to make a teacher out of her yet.
"It is good to be back in well trusted company," the mare admitted with a cordial dip of her head. Her words were not spoken in vain, as she truly did feel most comfortable. As if she could truly rest her spirit, recuperate from the constant line of defense she needed to walk daily when it came to saving the damned. At least now, she could sleep without fear of attack, could truly relax and be herself without needing to keep ever alert and wary.
Her own gold and silver gaze looked over the place they had temporarily settled. Now that they were reunited, they could continue on to new lands, though . . . Kaiya was unsure she wished to leave this area quite so soon. Shyam wasn't far. . . . but she had to wonder whether pressing him or leaving him be would be the best course of action. Despite the twist within him, he was still her brother, and still a soul she desperately wished to save. He had been good once. . . . could he not be so again?
Bah, that was to be thought upon later. No need to sink in to such thoughts at this moment, though. . . . . though did not her current companion deserve to know of her adventures? To know of this . . . new. . .development? Perhaps, perhaps. Giving a small stretch of her wings, at least the ones that worked properly, the mare gave a small shake of her head. "It was . . . enlightening, to say the least. The spirits certainly had good cause and reason for me to step away." Kaiya kept her words neutral as well, not giving much else for the moment, even if . . . a sadness, or perhaps a shadow, crossed over her as she spoke. Quickly though, she pressed on. "And what of you? Were the spirits up to mischief while I was away, or did they let you alone?" At least he looked to be in good health and good condition.

Tannin smiled warmly back at her, which always resulted in a rather goofy mug full of pointy teeth that didn't quite fit in his mouth. He always tried to make her smile, laugh, anything to bring her spirits up, he knew, though she never showed it that she was tired and at times troubled by her life's mission, bringing her a little happiness never hurt. Even though she didn't show it physically, she seemed more relaxed when she was here, he often watched her when they were on their travels and her eyes were hard, fixated on that path that she followed. Angeni were pure creatures, but their resolve towards their domains was stronger than any steel. " Well...again, let me say that I am VERY glad you're back, it has been...odd...without you here." He verbally tiptoed around the fact that he had missed her for reasons that he couldn't yet explain to her but that wasn't appropriate at the time. Perhaps it would never be, but he was learning a great deal about the world, and himself from her as they walked together into danger, trying to save the souls of the wicked.
He raised an eyebrow under his mask as she stretched her wings, watching the small wince she made, she was injured again, he would have to make a decent poultice for that, he dreaded the day when she got too injured to fly, she wouldn't be able to get away if something overpowered them. His nose wrinkled at the mere thought of it and decided he would make a particularly strong herb paste for it. " The folks around here got used to me after a while, thought of course they were wary at first...and there was this big guy, well i'll tell you about him later but I almost got into a big fight, I wasn't sure I could have beaten him either...Seems I was mistaken about the whole thing. It put some things into perspective for me." He shrugged, his armor clinking with the movement. He turned his gaze to meet hers and found something dark and foreboding there...which was more disturbing than anything he'd seen before on her serene face. Was she possibly...scared? What could Kaiya be distressed over?
"Enlightening?" He repeated, exhaling a very light green mist through his nostrils " care to...elaborate? I'm no psychic but I think something is upsetting you, not enlightening you." He wanted to pry, but he figured she'd tell him in time. " I don't think mischief is the right word for it, but the sprits certainly were playing around with me for a while there...here's hoping they help us out more, hmm?" He smiled crookedly. "Here, I'll see to your wounds, you wouldn't want those infected you know, I gathered up some necessary herbs and medicinals knowing you'd come back with something or another."

The mare allowed a small, but warm smile, to cross her features as she listened to her young companion. It pleased her that the young knight seemed to be growing and learning underneath her guidance, and that he did seem genuinely pleased to have her returned. A small part of Kaiya always wondered if her devoted companion might not wish to be somewhere else, might not wish to follow his own path and make his own discoveries, as opposed to following hers. Still, while it was not time for him to make his own way, Kaiya knew that someday -- just as she had with Galahad -- she would let loose Tannin to his own devices.
He could not stay in her shadow eternally, after all. Someday, perhaps sooner than he believed, she would release him from her guidance so he might continue to grow.
"Well," she assured gently, "provided the spirits are willing, I have no intention of leaving you for such a time anytime soon." Certainly she had her moments of quiet meditation or contemplation, but rarely did it cause her leave of Tannin for days or weeks. This trip had been something she'd felt compelled to take, and it had served her well. The spirits had granted her enlightenment of her brother, hurtful as it had been. Unfortunately, she had left him with more questions and concerns than she had answers, and it worried her. Kaiya wished to save her brother. . . but a small part of the angeni wondered if she might not need treat him like the most damned.
No.
He was no skinwalker.
There was redemption in every soul, provided they were not cursed. Shyam could be saved, just like all those she met. He would be obstinate, but Kaiya knew she would prevail. It was her destiny, her fate, her one joy and desire. She would not doubt, could not hesitate. The love and forgiveness she offered was something those souls and hearts needed. . . . It would take time, but Shyam would someday come around.
She hadn't given up on him before, she would not do so now.
"So I see the spirits have kept you busy as well. I am glad you were able to be accepted, and to learn, while I was away. I shall like to hear more of your adventures, especially of this great misunderstanding. . . But perhaps after I've rested. I dare say my age is catching up with me these days," she gently teased herself, gold and silver eyes lighting with humor. Compared to her young companion, she was quite a bit older, but he seemed to keep up with her easily enough.
Age was something none of them could ever truly escape.
When her companion questioned her choice of words, the mare tilted her head lightly before pawing thoughtfully at the ground. "I suppose upset is a bit strong for what I feel. The enlightenment was followed shortly by concern and a bit of distress, but it is simply due to a personal matter." She hesitated a moment, unsure what Tannin would wish or want to know, and what she should keep to herself so as not burden him. Unfortunately, if he walked with her, it was highly likely they might run in to Shyam again, especially if her brother's threats rang true.
It would be best the young stallion know the truth of the matter. "It seems as if the spirits found it an appropriate time to reintroduce me to my older brother. He has changed greatly over the years, and I dare say will . . . be a potential threat to our goals and achievements. He is quite unlike me." She explained calmly, her head wings flattening slightly in emotion. "Should we meet, do not be fooled by his manners. He is, essentially, as monstrous a creature as any we've met."

" Ah, well, I certainly did learn some interesting things, i'll have to tell you when you have rested" His ears perked forward as he watched an array of emotions flit over her face like shadows in broad daylight, her headwings flattened, this was more sadness than anything.
What would instill such feelings in someone such as she? He soon got his answer.
Tannin stared at her blankly for a second or two, his eyes faintly glowing in the hollows of his helmets eye sockets. " A...brother?" He shouldn't have been so surprised really, he silently chided himself for even asking. it was possible of course for angeni to have family, parents, siblings..." I'd say a reunion with a brother would be a happy thing...but that doesn't sound very joyous to me." He tried hard to wrap his mind around the idea that someone as great and inspiring as Kaiya could have a twisted brother, the spirits liked to play cruel tricks on occasion. He frowned, snorting a bit " Even if he IS your flesh and blood, I wouldn't let a thing get in the way of my knighthood, or your lifequest."
He had a bad feeling about this "brother" of hers, as if he had swallowed a slimy stone that was sitting in the pit of his stomach...He shrugged it off, thinking perhaps he was over thinking this or she was, it didn't matter who or what he faced along his journey with Kaiya, just as long as he could protect her and earn his knighthood at the same time, he would be ok...maybe. He knew there was a long path ahead of him, and he worried that part of it would have to be away from her. He didn't like the thought, she was mostly healed from the wounds she had taken on before, but he could still see the light playing over shiny new scars and old scars alike, he knew this was the path she had taken, but...it was harsh. Why were the spirits so capricious?
His ears flattened slightly, but he didn't want to bother her any more than she already was by this encounter with her brother " He's just as bad as what we've faced before huh? Even kalona and the occasional walker? That's pretty bad actually Kaiya...I thought angeni were not as dark as all that? Though i confess I do not know all there is to know about your kind..." A worried frown tugged at the edge of his lips.

The angeni mare considered Tannin and his words, though she said nothing for a time. The young stallion had met many a danger in their time together, and one day, perhaps soon, he would be face to face with her brother. Her brother who had fallen so far from his birthright, who had been cast asunder, been stripped of his powers, and twisted in to something dark. He was heartless, and while there were stronger beasts out there than even Shyam, he was no less a threat.
"I've searched for Shyam for many years," she finally explained. She owed Tannin that much. "He used to be as pure and true as myself but. . . something went wrong. Angeni are not usually able to . . to fall. Unfortunately, every now and then, something seems to go wrong, and the goodness within is tainted. After making abhorrent and deadly choices, Shyam was stripped of his powers and cast out, as is the fate of all our kind whom walk such a path. He . . . is a very broken creature, and while he looks mostly like an angeni, and can even be kind, he. . . he is not." Still, the mare offered a small, sad smile.
"I suspect, now that he is aware of my existence, we shall cross him, should he wish such a thing. He is his own stallion, but he is a killer. He feasts upon the flesh of fellow soquili, and seems to think it his job to corrupt. He and I are not on kind terms, but I do hope that, with the spirits finally granting me an audience with him, it might set me on a path to save him." It was a personal goal of hers, a desire she had yearned for for years. To show him there was goodness, that he was still loved, still had family, despite his crazed choices. . .
"Though he might attempt to hinder us, as always, I know we shall carry on triumphant. I assure you," she chuckled warmly, "We shall see your training through to the end, of that I am most certain. You are already well on your way." While he had much to learn, Kaiya knew that his time with her was fast approaching an end. Once they got out of this murk, she might do well to seek out Loren, and see if she could not convince the angeni to take Tannin under win. Surely, the angeni of knighthood might train him far better than Kaiya could.

The information did not sit well with Tannin at all, it made him feel sick, nauseous. Thus manifested his disgust of this so called brother of hers, her own twisted kin who had filled Kaiya, so pure and lovely, with such dread. He did his best not to show it, but he felt the flame that burned within him flare in anger. The green flame behind his eyes burned brighter as she finished telling him of Shyam, if he knew in his heart that he were strong enough to battle with this dark stallion he would do so in a hummingbirds heartbeat, he would. But he knew, though he had been through many battles by Kaiyas' side, protecting her, protecting himself and shielding the lives of any innocent who needed him. He was not nearly as strong as he wanted to be, nay, NEEDED to be. " …This brother of yours does not sound like he should be trusted to breathe the same air" He said, though his voice was dark and had the barest hint of a growl to it " Though I may have eaten small animals in my youth for sustenance, i would never kill and eat another of our kind…i'm not sure you can be saved after that Kaiya…" His eyes flickered in the shadows of his helmet, worried for her. Her cause had always been good and just, but it was forever dangerous- but trying to save someone who sounded as far gone as he…he knew that she saw it as a challenge, perhaps her greatest challenge. And that only caused him to worry more…the feelings of dread about this Shyam were getting worse by the minute.
" Let him try to hinder us" He huffed, his ears halfway flattened against his armor " as you say, we shall move on" He was pleased at her words, his heart lightened a bit at her easy going chuckle. He had grown much under her careful tutelage, she was his light in the dark on his way to becoming a knight. He was almost there…but not quite. He stared at her, his bony hooves dug firmly in the soil as he made his resolve. He really hoped that she would always smile, always laugh and never, ever encounter this brother of hers again…but if she did, he had to be stronger…
He turned away to look towards the way out of the area where he'd spent a good amount of time, he was almost sad to go, but there was work to be done, and at least for now, he was simply happy that he was able to keep company with Kaiya on her travels. " Did you want to head out now?"

The mare saw her young charge's response to her brother -- the flattening of his ears, the defensive shift of his posture, that growl in his voice. A small part of the mare wondered what he might be thinking, what it was that made him respond in such a fashion. Shyam was no different than any other twisted and broken soul they met along their path -- he was no skinwalker, though killer he very well was! Still, she knew that the black knight before her still was learning, and was certainly entitled to his own opinions and wishes. He was not an Angeni of Redemption, it was not his burden to save the damned.
"He has committed many crimes, yes," she spoke, giving a small swish of her tail. "But he is not the first murderer we've redeemed, nor is he the worst brute we've yet to meet. He may be twisted, but you must understand, he was once as good and pure as I try to be," she smiled gently, giving her head wings a small stretch before pawing thoughtfully at the ground. "The only creatures out there that are too far gone to be saved are skinwalkers; and even then, I weep for them as much as I do any lost soul. Shyam is no walker," she gently reminded, giving the stallion a small, if perhaps sad, smile. "And whether or not I am allowed to cross his path again, we shall leave up to the spirits. To know of his existance is a great relief, if not concern for the creature he has become. . . . but there is good in him yet, Tannin, just as there is in you. Wait and see. . . I pray the spirits give me strength and guide my hooves well, so I won't let my beloved brother down. Until then," she reached out to brush a wing encouragingly against the others armor as she stepped forward. "I dare say we might as well continue forth. There are still many out there in need of our prayers, in need of a light to a new way; also, to be warned of the stallion who lurks in this area. If we can do nothing else for these nearby herds, we can at least warn them."
((I think we can call this a wrap. :3 ))
