She had to bite her tongue to stop herself from jumping up and down and screaming in joy. It would be unprofessional, especially in her working environment.

Sitting at her small desk, just to the left of the main reception desk (it was a far more impressive desk, paid for by a generous donation from a nobel-prize winning parent), Selena scanned her steel-blue eyes over the letter for a third time, allowing her head to fully digest the information. The full-time receptionist, Marianne, was finally disappearing off on her maternity leave. It had seemed like she was ready to burst for the past few weeks, and Selena had often found herself wondering whether if she tapped the growing mass of her stomach whether it would pop. But now it seemed they'd finally come to a decision regarding her replacement - usually a highly costly affair, they'd instead decided to extend the offer to Selena, on the condition that she was able to keep up with her own work as well. She'd essentially be doing the two jobs, but she was confident she could manage. And of course, to make it worth her while, they'd offered her a nice little pay rise to accompany the extra role she was to fill.

It was exactly what she'd been hoping for.

Her flat-fund was fast growing - she'd been saving furiously for months now, and with Leon due to disappear on his travels this coming October she really needed to start scouting for a potential flatmate. But this pay rise meant she'd definitely be able to afford the move, so long as she kept her wits about her and didn't go running off to the shopping centre in a mad daze as soon as her first paycheck arrived.

Checking her watch - Marianne had an appointment at two and she'd need to cover reception - Selena tutted her tongue against the roof of her mouth and placed the letter neatly in one of her desk draws, unable to wipe the lingering smile off of her face as she quickly tidied her desk. Satisfied with it's appearance, she stood and made her way over to the impressive main desk, smiling at the expectant mother sweetly. "I'm here to cover?" Marianne smiled back at her, taking her time to stand as she cradled her bulging belly, "Thanks Selena, I shouldn't be long."

Selena couldn't help but compare her waddling walk as she left the office to that of a penguin.
