User ImageIt was a lovely evening on the Down that day. Meadowsnip was enjoying a good meal of Flayrah in the form of long wheat strands. It was some of the best she had ever had, the stalks just as crunchy and flavourful as the golden seeds that other rabbits preferred. She didn't waste one bit of it, happily grazing on her bundle of long strands.

There was a sudden terrifying flurry of feathers and something was latching onto her pile of food! She leaped back and bolted for her warren, turning to look back.
It was a crow! A young...it was some kind of grey-blue and white songbird, now standing where she had been and picking at her meal.

She knew some birds were elil. She had seen a large group of crows pick off a kitten or two but she had not known songbirds to be like this. This Swallow was no older than a kitten itself, probably just out of the nest. She was not going to stand aside and let it eat her hard-earned flayrah. She had hopped down to the field herself to get this!

So, hopping back over, she shoved past the rude bird, using her teeth to pull the stalks free from it. "This is mine! Go fly off and find your own, please. "

It chirped angrily as she sat her whole body down on it and put her ears back. The bird walked around her, unsure what to do. Then, it pecked a few times, beating its wings, trying to scare the brave but soft spoken female off his dinner.

The evening was a soft, crisp one, one that Ginkgo was thoroughly enjoying as he relaxed in the sun's dying glow. All was clear, yet he watched the skies regardless, in the event that flighted elil reared their ugly heads. Times were different and the short tempered young buck was at a loss with what to do with himself, exactly. He did know he had to protect the warren, so he put his all into it. His life was a fast one and would probably be short in the grand scheme of things.

There seemed to be an occurrence of some sort, one that caused him to turn his gaze and perk his tattered ears. He hadn't seen any elil come near, so what would be causing the doe to act in such a peculiar way? And then he saw it, a tiny songbird, hardly even an adult. A wry grin slid across his maw as he stood, stretched leisurely, and hopped down the hillside, ready to "save" this "damsel in distress."

"Be off wit'ye, stupid bird." He stomped his hind feet soundly near the chirping critter in an attempt to scare it off. Maybe he would hit it next time, if it didn't get the hint.

The doe was warring through the tiny pecks and high-pitched chirps, sighing as it landed on her back. She was not moving.

The swallow beat its wings and dove around at the Owsla's approach, spinning and diving in the air around them, trying to peck at the buck's torn ears.

Meadowsnip just sighed and itched a spot behind her ear with a hind foot. This was an idiot bird.

The owsla scowled unamused as the tiny bird dove on him, raining tiny pecks on him. They didn't hurt and, if anything, were just a nuisance. This tiny bird was picking a fight it would lose if it set down on the ground at all and was merely obnoxious, if anything. It posed little to no threat, unless it managed to get him in the eye, but it surely wouldn't be smart enough to try something like that.

Instead, as the bird came back around, he leaned forward and struck out with his hind paws in an effort to drive the stupid thing away from the pretty, young doe and her flay.

It certainly wasn't the most glorious thing he'd had to do as an owsla.

The bird chirped more and more angrily, then finally took the hint as it was kicked from the air, flying away.

"Well, mighty good moves. Thank you, officer." Meadowsnip said, almost dismissively, and went back to her flay, nose wiggling. "Do help yourself." She offered as a second thought.

Stupid little bird... At least it had gone away, anyhow. He didn't much feel like wasting energy on the thing, but what was done was done and at least he'd helped someone, right? Not just anyone, but a pretty little doe. She didn't seem to give much thought to it, though, despite her words of thanks. He'd have helped himself, regardless, but her invitation made him hesitant to do so. Instead, he sniffed at the flay.

"Anything to help a fellow rabbit." He muttered, before fishing out a nice, leafy stalk to munch. He was hungry, come to think of it. As he grazed, he kept an eye out for any dangers that might befall them. Maybe he'd go find some tasty cowslip or clover, later.

The doe opened her eye at the other and continued to munch her hay. She was looking him back to front, remaining wordless. Finally, finishing her stalks, she began to groom herself. "Thanks again." She said, loping off away from the warren.

She was intending to go find something to munch on for dessert, her mind much like Ginkgo's. She bounded past a small bush where another rabbit lifted his head.

User Image Pitchweed was munching his own flay next to his sister, pausing as he saw the gorgeous doe hop past.

"Do pardon me, Sister." He said, leaving Wildwood and watching Meadowsnip like the elil predator he was, ears twitching as he made his slow approach.

Wildwood fed quietly, this being her favored time of the day, just as the sun was sinking. She leaned against her brother, half closing her eyes as she enjoyed the evening and his company. It wasn't often that the doe was in a good mood, but she just so happened to be at that particular time. It began to sour, however, as her brother moved away, causing her side to chill rather suddenly.

"Fine. Be careful." She knew what was on his mind and it bothered her, but she said nothing to stop him from leaving and continued to graze.

Ginkgo continued to graze on the bit of flay he had taken from Meadowsnip. Maybe he should have asked her name? He knew he'd seen her around on occasion, it would be hard not to recognize a rabbit from the warren and he did his best to at least know scent and sight of each one, but he didn't know her that well, only that she was of a litter that had grown to adulthood recently. It was only when he was finished that he ventured away from that spot to find something to eat, something worthy of an officer to do, or some minor trouble to start.

Pitchweed knew his sister was not very happy about his leaving, so he would hurry. He bounded easily over to Meadowsnip and began to snuffle at her haunches.

She startled, kicking him in the face with both hind legs and backing off rapidly, her eyes full of anger and fear. "Please announce yourself before you sneak up on a doe like that!"

"Apologies." Said Pitchweed, approaching still. He leaned against her and showed off his teeth, ears flicking. "Don't mind me. I was just enjoying your...scents."

She shivered. "Yes, well, it was good to meet you." She bounded a bit, but the buck easily overtook her, cutting her off, almost herding her in a circle.

"What's the hurry?" He asked in a slick voice. "There's no elil about. Why not enjoy a nice, quiet flay on the grass with me? What's your name?"

She was getting all kinds of warnings. "After flay we can go back to my den. I am certain my sister can spend time elsewhere tonight." He nipped her ear.

That's when she put on her attack face and bit him right on the nose, scrambling over his back and bolting for the hill she had come from.

But again, though she was fast, he overtook her again, now a look of passionate anger in his multi-hued eyes.

It wasn't words that caught the small officer's attention, but the sounds of a scuffle. He turned his amber gaze along the hill, catching sight of the same doe he had briefly helped earlier and a dark brown buck... Pitchweed. He rolled his eyes. He knew well of Pitchweed and Wildwood, an unsavory duo at best. While they never truly did enough harm to get themselves tossed to the elil, as they should be, they were certainly an annoyance.

The buck loped towards the pair, eager to put the other buck in his place with claw and fang. Finally, something interesting to spice up the night!

"Pitchweed." He spat the buck's name as he slowed a few paces from the buck and the doe he was bothering. "Of course." He reared up on his haunches, puffing out his fur in an effort to look larger and more domineering.

"What is the problem here? Is he bothering you?"

Pitchweed's golden eye turned a glance at the officer and he sighed. Another chance at an evening ruined. He puffed himself up as best he could, not afraid of the Owsla. He'd tangled with them before. This one was particularly small.

"Oh, well if it isn't Ginkitten." He said with a frosty tone. "I was not bothering her. I was just attempting to make small talk.

The doe had moved behind the smaller buck and glared out at the black-brown and golden rabbit. Most of the warren knew of them.

"Do you not have your sister to make small talk with?" The euphamism wasn't very subtle.

The smallish owsla did his best to keep reign over his own temper as the darker and larger buck mocked him. It wasn't the first time he had been mocked for his size and it probably wouldn't be the last, though those who dared to do it were becoming fewer and more far between. The tan buck gnashed his teeth aggressively, his own tone as cold as ice as he did his best to block the doe from Pitchweed's slimy gaze.

He couldn't help but to crack a smile at Meadowsnip's quip. The pair were notorious for being rude and awful close. One was almost never seen without the other.

"Run back to your little burrow and leave the others in peace, Pitchweed. Don't make me have to get rough with you, cos we both no it will not end well in your favor."

Pitchweed stood up on his hind paws and glared down at the Owsla, his two-colored gaze a harrowing, mocking one. "Try it then, kitten!" He wanted the doe and he'd been...dealt with by the owsla before. But this little buck was alone and he had Wildwood nearby if he needed help.

Pitchweed lunged forward, teeth going for the other's already ripped up ears, letting out a hiss that barely seemed like a rabbit.

Meadowsnip jumped a mile and backed off, not enjoying violence! This one might turn out to be a bit bloody, too.

Ginkgo wasn't one to back down. There was a reason scars marred his front end and not his back. He wouldn't turn tail and flee from a fight with another rabbit unless he was near death and, in this case, he was far from it. The buck dug his big, rear paws into the earth and rocketed upwards as hard as he could muster, aiming to butt Pitchweed's head with his own. His sharp incisors were ready to rend flesh from bone and he was fueled by anger and a need to prove himself. The pain in his ear was miniscule compared to his wounded pride.

At least Meadowsnip was getting out of the way and this buck would be prevented from messing with her. He aimed his teeth at Pitchweed's shoulder, golden eyes blazing with anger and frustration. If only this stupid rabbit would learn his lesson or, even better, be cast out as a hlessi with his sister.

Pitchweed was also very prideful. If he wasn't such a sleaze he might have made owsla himself! But he was a sleaze and he was determined to prove himself to this pretty doe, like a pair of deer fought for their does!

He kicked with his hind legs as he was forced to the ground, trying to dig in with his own teeth, too!

Meadowsnip's eyes were huge. She looked around for a way to stop them, but could think of nothing except...

She bounded over to Wildwood's resting spot. "Call your brother off. Before he gets killed! He won't win this fight."
