Threnah was lost. Hopelessly lost. this morning had started out lovely. The sun was shining over the lake, encouraging her to take a nice long swim. However, because she had fully decided to head toward the water, a flash of color caught her eye. Butterflies. Big, huge butterflies, flitting together in their silence dance. Threnah couldn't help prancing in place as she watched them. How beautiful. They wished and weaved around her head, and she snorted at them. This caused them to lose interest in her and start off in the opposite direction of the lake, towards the woods. Threnah followed, not wanting to lose sight of them. Before long she was deep in the woods, still blinding following the flits of color. Heedless of where she was going, she merely tried to keep them in sight, speeding up when she had to.
When a river cut through her path, Threnah paused only briefly. She had to look down and watch her footing, however, so as not to twist her sensitive ankles. Once through the stoney river, she galloped up onto the bank and glaced around. Drat, where had they gone? She wandered for a bit, looking up into the trees, hoping to see them resting in the cool shade, perhaps on a limb or against a trunk. A few times she thought she'd found them again, but it turned out to be some other colorful bug. She'd stand and watch it for a while, as it painstakingly moved along, and she she would move along herself.
The second river that blocked Threnah's path was a puzzle to her. She didn't think she'd ever cross two rivers before. After a moment's pause, she shrugged and waded through. By now the day was at it's height and even from the shade of the trees, Threnah was sweating. The cool water felt good on her coat.
On the other side of the river more forest greeted her. Everything began to look the same. Starting to feel a bit tired, Threnah lay down in the shade to take a rest.
Several hours later she awoke. The heat of the day had past. The change of the sun's position in this unfamiliar place made Threnah feel more uncertain about where she was. Had she come from directly behind her, or from the left? Perhaps the right? After clearing a stand of trees, she suddenly found herself staring out into a wide open plain. Wow! The uninterrupted grasslands were stunning. However, the unusually sight confirmed Threnah's suspicions. She was well and truly lost.

The batwalker looked around the wide open plain, and just sighed. Nothing in sight for what seemed to last forever. It was a good thing that nothing was in sight, with the exception of the treeline, but she wanted nothing to do with those trees. After a fight with the harpies, and having been injured, the trees she also classified as her enemy for they aided that harpy that caused her pelt to be torn, her wing to never heal properly, and a fang yanked from the pelt.
If one could see her up close they would see the scars, the torn fur, and the slightly mangled wing. And she was already intimidating as was being a batwalker, but with her injuries and the thought of knowing she survived even such serious injuries, could make anyone who wasn't brave or who was very naive tremble. "Where oh where are the pretties to scare? Where might they be hiding? Even in the night they aren't safe for I will haunt their dreams." She spoke out loud to herself, feeling bored and wanting something to happen.

As Threnah poked her head out of the trees and made her way into the long grass of the plains, she spotted another spot of color a little ways off. This spot of color, however, was far larger than a butterfly. For the life of her, Threnah could not tell what it was.
Having no real reason to feel cautious, she galloped out closer to it. The closer she got, the more it seemed completely unfamiliar to her. It had four legs like her own, but there were tufts of fur and...wings? Were those wings? But they were...Threnah didn't know the word for it. Not feathery like a birds.
Distracted as she was by the appearance of the creature, it wasn't until she got up closer that she noticed signs on distress on the animal. Her curiosity was immediately overshadowed by her kind heart, "Hello! Hello, um, are you alright? Do you need some help?" Her eyes glazed over the missing patches of fur and tattered wings.

Neva's ears twitched as she heard the sounds of someone approaching. Who in their right mind would willing approach her? She turned and spotted the mare and all was clear in her mind. Yet another naive one who apparently had heard no stories of the demons that wandered the land. These ones though, were always more fun to play with, in her opinion.
With the bombardment of questions, she gave her answer as a low snarl. Maybe this would get her to realize that she was stepping into dangerous territory. Her wings flared out slightly when she snarled, making herself appear larger and more dangerous. But depending on how the mare reacted to this, would determine just how much fun she would have with this naive little creature.

Threnah reacted with a start to the harsh response she got to her well-meaning questions. She took an involuntary step backward as the snarl she got, and several more as the creature - she still wasn't exactly sure WHAT it was - seemed to expand before her.
However, as the light purple wings expanded, rather than appearing frightening, it only drew more attention to their injured state. Her eyes fell on a particularly vicious looking tear. She wondered what could have caused such injured? Had it fallen while flying? She supposed a fall from a great height could cause such injuries and worse. The poor thing! It was probably scared out of it's mind, having fallen so far, being in pain and injured. No wonder it reacted badly when approached so suddenly by a stranger.
Threnah tried a soft smile. Already a rather small Soquili, she tried to make herself look a little smaller, unthreatening. Her voice quavered a bit, but she stuck it out, "It's alright, I won't hurt you. What's your name?"

When the mare didn't run away, but instead asked for Neva's name and said she wouldn't hurt her, the batwalker had a really hard time not giving an evil laugh. Her mind was already going, and she could pull off her "Innocent" routine with this very naive mare, even though she was a skinwalker. This mare must have never heard the tales of demons who could change shape, and who were bloodthirsty, and Neva was going to teach her the errors of her ways.
Her head drooped slightly as she made herself appear in great pain and saddness. "M...my name? I..It's Neva." she sniffled slightly, fake tears pooling in her eyes. "A..are you sure you won't hurt me?" Neva glanced up at the mare, the tears now falling. "I was attacked! B..by a kalona!" This mare should at least know what a kalona was in the very least. This would be fun, oh so much fun.

Seeing the poor creature crumple in on itself, tears in its eyes, Threnah's heart swelled with compassion. She stepped closer, though still taking care not to move too quickly or stand too tall. "Of course I won't hurt you. My name is Threnah." When the tears fell from Neva's eyes to the ground, Threnah could hold back no longer. She walked the last few steps between them and gently nuzzled an uninjured portion of Neva's...pelt? in effort to offer her some comfort. She was shocked to hear the poor thing had been attacked. She couldn't imagine! "I'm so sorry! That sounds horrible! ...what's a kalona?"

Neva had a really hard time not lashing out as the mare nuzzled her. Oh the things she would put up with to have some fun. But then when the mare asked what a kalona was, how hard it was to not groan in irritation. Has this idiotic mare kept her head under a rock her whole life. Ugh.
"K...kalonas are evil, demon creatures. T..they attack for no reason." She shook her head, making it seem like she was trying to forget the memory of the attack, but rather she was shaking her head at how brainless this mare was. "Y...you must be careful!" This was going to be so fun to show this mare just how evil the world could be. But she must be patient.

"Oh dear! That sounds just terrible! You poor thing... I've never heard of such a creature but... actually... I've never seen anything like you before either. Is it.. um.. may I ask.. ..um, what... what are you?" Threnah blushed immediately, feeling a bit embarrassed at a potentially rude questions. She hurried on to explain, so Neva might not be offended, "It's just, I live in the village you know, and we don't see a lot of stra..er, different things there."
Carefully, she nudged Neva again, as if to point out her injuries. "Are you sure you're ok? Is there anything I can do to help?"

That explains it then. Living in the village. No wonder she was so bloody clueless. Yet, she knew they used to tell the stories of demons in the night. Or else they have gotten to comfortable and have lost their fears. Well then, she would just have to change that now wouldn't she? And she'll start with this mare.
"Me? I was tortured as a young foal. Some cruel two-legger attached this pelt to me. I used to be a pretty mare with beautiful wings of feathers. But now, I'm this hideous monster!" She turned away, more tears falling from her eyes. So, while she was right about being a monster, the rest was all false, but a fairly believable story for someone so naive. "Now I'm constantly attacked, by everyone. Lately it's been kalonas. But I'm nothing more than a monster." Her tears fell so freely now, even if they were false tears.

Immediately, Threnah moved to comfort her. "No, no, you aren't a monster at all. You're rather beautiful actually." Threnah's eyes roamed over Neva's pelt, coat and wings. Despite the injuries, the mare's colors were quite unusual and gentle to Threnah's eyes. The soft purple had a shimmer of color to it, very faint but impossible to miss. It made the mare shimmer almost like the reflect of the sun over the lake on a clear day. The wings were certainly...unsually. But ugly? Threnah didn't think so.
"I am honestly shocked to hear a two-legger did such a terrible thing. The ones I live with are very kind and gentle.. they would never..."

Oh it was so hard for the batwalker to not just lash out and attack when the mare went to comfort her. Having others touch her, ugh, just no. But the chance to toy with someone like this, it was worth it in the long run. Soon this mare will suffer the consequences for the villagers for not telling the stories and becoming to relaxed in their ways. There were still demons out there in the world and she would make sure they knew it.
"You can't trust everything. Looks and things can be so deceiving. He lured me in with apples and other yummy treats and next thing I knew I was pinned down and he..he..he.." The tears started flowing again, as she made herself as believable as possible. It was amusing her that she was telling this mare that one shouldn't always believe the things that are said/seen, when here she was getting ready to show the mare just how wrong it was to be so naive.

Threnah gulped and fretted, unsure what to do or say as the mare unravelled before her. She had never been in a situation where she had to comfort another Soquili. Sometimes the village children would come to her when they were upset. She was gentle and quiet, thus she made the perfect confidant after childish quarrels. They would bury their faces in her neck and turn their fingers into her mane. Such a thing was certainly not possible with this mare, so... what could she do. Nervously, she gifted her weight from hoof to hoof.
"It's-It's alright, you can tell me," she soothed.

"It was so awful, that horrible two-legger! And now I've got all of these others attacking me because they think I'm some horrible monster! I don't want to be a monster. I'm not evil!" Her voice raised slightly in pitch as she let loose all the fake lies and the fake emotions, making the mare believe her even more. "I just want to be left alone...is that to much to ask for?"
Neva shook her head and sighed. Soon she would strike, and soon this naive little mare would learn about the real demons. It almost made her mouth water at the thought of seeing the mare's blood against her coat. And the batwalker was sure that it would smell so sweet and ooh how it made her mouth water. She was becoming impatient with this little trap of hers but she was waiting for just the right moment.

Attempting to make her voice as soothing as possible, she tried to comfort dear Neva. "What a terrible thing! Really, all two-leggers aren't like that at all... and you aren't a monster! Of course not!" Stepping closer, she nuzzled her gently again. The mare was surely more than a bit strange looking, but... well, she seemed sweet. Threnah herself was always looking for Soquili to talk to. Perhaps... "You can be alone if you like, but... maybe.. if you'd like to, we can spend some time together, " Threnah paused, blinking, unsure how to go on. They could be friends, right? That would make Neva feel better, wouldn't it? "I could show you... not all two-leggers are bad. Or, or we could stay away from them and I'll keep your company!" Threnah smiled.
