Name: Hikari Rei
Alias: Rei
Race: Shinigami
Squad:
Rank:
Gender: Female
Age: Physically 17 but is in fact 102 years old
Height: 166 cm
Weight: 50 kg
Appearance: Often chided by her seniors for her lack of “proper clothing”, Rei prefers to adorn her wardrobe with rather revealing but light-weighted garments which she argues “won’t drag me down in a fight”. She is often seen wearing a black bikini top, matching shorts and knee-high boots, as well as a long black coat. Her scars, however, are more notable as a result of her “bold” fashion sense. Arguably her most prominent feature, other than her mismatched eyes (her left one being blue and her right being purple), is the massive scar across her abdomen. She also bears the birthmark “0169” at the nape of her neck. (This is explained further in the biography.) Her hair is almost always tied in twin-tails, one much longer than the other. On special occasions, she wears her Shinigami uniform.
Personality: Though many tend to see Rei as the “silent type” with a stoic expression, she is in fact simply shy and has troubles expressing her true feelings - too much trouble in fact. Her supposedly cold demeanour often hides her concern for her close associates. She is always trying to be kinder to those around her and struggles to make friends. She has a complex about her bust size.
Biography: Prior to awakening in Soul Society, Rei was forced to partake in a human experiment since birth. Her real name is unknown – she was simply referred to as “0169”. Dying at the age 17 as a result of drug overdose, Rei physically cannot mature beyond this age due to her strong emotional attachment to her past life (possibly resentment though this is never specified). Though she has no recollection of it, her strange birthmark often leads her to question her past in the Human World.
Born in District 52 of West Rukongai alongside her older brother of 5 years, Rei grew up experiencing the harsh difference between those living an elite lifestyle compared to those in the slums (as living standards in Rukongai decline sharply beyond the 50th district). Despite the fact that Rei and her brother would struggle to obtain their basic needs at times, especially due to Rei’s hunger as a result of her high spiritual power, Rei held no distaste towards her life. Though her “cold” demeanour, which she possessed even as a child, was hard to approach, Rei grew up appreciating the comfort of her older brother’s presence.
Her first encounter with a hollow on the outskirts of the District 64 and her brother’s subsequent death (a self-sacrifice on his behalf in exchange for Rei’s safety) were what strongly encouraged Rei to become a Shinigami. The scar on her abdomen serves as a reminder of this.

Zanpakuto: Akahime

Spirit: Contrary to his name, Akahime is neither “red” nor a “princess”. As a result, he is often teased for this, with much thanks to his counterpart’s poor naming skills. But given his carefree and almost lazy attitude, he tends to pay no heed to such comments. Or at least he tries not to.
But beneath his nonchalant behaviour, Akahime is very protective of Rei and shares a brother-sisterly bond with her. He has no true human form (more explained in Bankai) and his appearance is but a reflection of Rei’s memory of her real older brother (deceased). He also bears a deep hatred for Hollows (as he is a mirror of Rei’s true self) and will not hesitate to eliminate a single one.
Sealed form:

Shikai: Unachieved.

“Devour, Akahime.”
Blood Scythe;
Akahime grows into a large, crimson death scythe which Rei wields for close combat. As she is very flexible, Rei has best control of her attacks and defences when it is within close proximity to her body. However, the long chains that wind along her arms allow her to extend her reach if necessarily (for example, for long range attacks). Despite its heavy weight (which provides its devastating damage on opponents), Rei’s small build places a moderate balance on her speed.
Shikai powers: Unachieved.
Bankai: Unachieved.

Upon her Bankai release, Rei’s eyes are no longer mismatched and are instead both purple. The second indication of her use of Bankai is the physical disappearance of her Zanpakuto. This is as, in their Bankai form, Akahime materialises as Rei’s blood – this is why Akahime has no true physical form and may shape shift his human appearance if desired (though he would rather not as he finds it too troublesome). However, Rei must first draw her blood before initiating any kind of Bankai-based skill, for example, by cutting or sharply bitting her skin.
Her control over her Bankai powers is telepathic. Given it is her own blood, she can manipulate its shape, size (this varies depending on the volume of blood drawn; the greater it is stretched, the thinner it becomes) and movements according to her will. She may also choose to crystallise or liquefy her blood.
However, this is also why Rei cannot maintain Bankai for a long period of time. There is a limit as to how much blood she can use as she will, like any other being, grow weak with increasing blood loss – death is a possible outcome. Akahime is also aware of this and thus withdraw from his Bankai form in order to fend Rei from self-destruction.
Bankai powers: Unachieved.
- Togainu no Chi; Rei manifests a hound with her blood as her aid in the fight.
Other skills/abilities: Nothing as of yet.
