Trist vs. Mephistopheles

Roll a Five: The Fire Field: A series of thick rock pillars, all different sizes of height, reach towards the stadium ceiling from a pool of hot lava. While there is a fire-proof net far below to catch any pokemon that falls off the platforms, the rock pillars themselves are hot to the touch. They can cause burns if your pokemon stand still for a set period of time. The air around the field is very heavy from the extreme heat. This field gives a 25 HP attack boost to FIRE type attacks. This field reduces ICE and WATER type attacks by 25 HP.

Mina fanned herself as she waited on the fire field, her head already gleaming with sweat. At least her Pokémon wasn't weak to fire, although she hoped the battle would be over quickly.

Trist shared his trainer's thoughts, and he was glad to see the net at the bottom of the field. His legs weren't very suited for this type of terrain, but he would do his best.

Lenore started sweating lightly as she entered the trainer's box, Mephistopheles by her side. She gave him a small smile before sitting down and fanning herself.

The duskull floated down to the fiery field below. "Salutations. I am Mephistopheles, but you may call me Mephisto, for short. I will be your opponent for this battle. Good luck."

"Hey!" Mina called when she saw someone approach, trying to smile despite the heat. "Good luck!"

Then, to Trist, "Toxic!"

Trist eyed his opponent nervously. Without a doubt, the other wouldn't find the lack of floor disheartening in the least, and he was already at a disadvantage. He was slightly assured when the Duskull spoke to him and replied with a "Thank you, Mephisto. I hope we can both learn from this battle." but still had his doubts.

Hearing Mina speak, he shot a glob of hissing purple liquid towards the Ghost Pokémon.

Mephistopheles floated aside of the toxic, watching the other pokemon cautiously. He raised a single arm, and a large orb of darkness appeared. The duskull launched it at the girafarig.

Mina tensed when she saw Trist driven back near the edge of the pillar he stood on, but the Girafarig was aware of the danger and did his best to hold his ground. Relieved, she called out, "Shadow Ball!"

Trist took himself to the center of the pillar once again, his nervousness evident by the lashing and snapping of his tail. When he thought himself a bit more safe, he formed a ball of shadow to strike the Duskull.

The shadow ball slammed into Mephistopheles, lowering his defenses. The duskull's eye glowed suggestively.

Mina called out for another Shadow Ball, but Trist was unable to obey. Quickly discovering the reason for it, she instead called out, "Try Crunch!"

It didn't seem possible for the Duskull to make any sort of biting attack so, hopefully, that wasn't unavailable for Trist to use.

Finding himself no longer paralyzed when it came to using this particular move, Trist ran up to the Duskull in order to attempt to deliver a sharp bite.

Mephistopheles was bitten by the girafarig, and he phased out of it's grip. Forming another orb of darkness, he launched it at the other pokemon.

Unable to retreat quickly enough, the attack hit him squarely in the shoulder and nearly sent the Girafarig stumbling to the net below. Luckily, Trist's fear kept him from being forced back too far, and he attempted another Crunch.

The orb smarted, but it wasn't strong enough to make falling an immediate danger. Spinning quickly, Trist attempted another Crunch, and hopefully he was fast enough this time to land a blow before the Duskull could phase out.
