What time is it? she asked her little headworm tiredly. She'd been working for ... how long now? Well it didn't really matter, did it. She'd persevere through it.

A few scratches, bruises. What did it matter, anyways? She'd heal them with time. Maybe not that long scabbing slice across her arm, but everything else, sure. It was hidden by her hunter's coat anyways- nobody had to bother with it.

Junpei said something, but the garble was lost on sleeping ears. Ami had set her head down on her arms for just a second. Just a tiny moment, and she was out like a light.

It probably wasn't very becoming for a hunter to fall asleep on the table with a FEAR sample sitting under a microscope.

Passing by, he hardly expected to see the now transferred ex-moon trainee. She was asleep at the table, and from the looks of it, dead to the world. A quick check to her face made him smile. No face drawing today at least. A small shake at her shoulder he figured it would be best to wake her and at least get her in a place where they wouldn't draw on her face.

"Ami, wake up. Ami." It was a gentle voice, much softer than his usual tone.

Ami nudged away the hand shaking her shoulder at first, but blinked her eyes open when she realized someone was calling her. Who would be calling her? Tori didn't sound like a man, and it sure as hell wouldn't be Adam or Wilson.

Her vision focused and she realized it was Marcus tugging her. "Mmm Marcus hi?" she said, not quite awake. She squeezed her eyes open and closed a few times before committing to moving her whole body to looking at him. Owww that hurt. Yesterday had been more than the required hours in the training room, and her quads were feeling it.

She raised a hand and waved. "Hey, haven't seen you a lot since the division switch," she said sleepily, letting a yawn escape her mouth. "Need somethin'?"

She was out of it, and he was betting she was not a morning person from the sluggish reaction. "Hi Ami." Pulling himself a chair, the moon hunter sat himself beside her smiling lightly. She had fallen asleep in the labs, and he wasn't about to just leave her there. Woken up or not, he wouldn't see her sleeping unless it was in her own bed.

"I've been busy, but no. I was actually headed over to return some unused bandages and talk to one of the moons stationed here." Slouching he motioned to the table. "But saw you passed at at your work. You're pretty lucky, if a life hunter had found you I'm sure you would have gotten a lovely temporary tattoo." There was even a pen on the desk.

A small pop of his shoulder, and he asked. "You been doing okay? Aside from sleeping on the job that is." It was a lighthearted teasing, his smile just a bit wider.

Ami sat up and stretched a little, yawning. She was going to at least try to appear presentable now. A quick tuck of her bangs behind her ears, a tight adjustment of her blouse and ... well good enough.

She smirked at his sleeping on the job comment and rolled her eyes. "Yeah well, just doing my best fitting in here and all that cliche jazz," she explained, pulling her skirt lightly.

A nervous habit had her tugging on her braid, which caused her sleeve to slip down and reveal the long scar Gene had given her. Ami's eyes went wide and she pulled the sleeve down again. He didn't see that right?

Oh who was she kidding. "Ah ..." was all that came out of her mouth. How was she supposed to explain that? She hadn't bothered getting it treated- too busy to do anything about it. Maybe Marcus would just let it slide. Yeahhh. Marcus was nice. Totally.

He'd been smiling and fine, ready to tease her about work ethic and work idiocy when he caught the slip.Smile turned into a scowl as his hand snapped out, tugging her arm to him firmly yet gently, pulling up her sleeve with a slow caution. A scars were painful things, and with a hunter's healing it was possible that it had been recent and was still tender. "Ami." There was that tone she'd distinctly know as the one he'd used after the mission, chiding, yet worried.

Sighing he kept the sleeve rolled up as he examined the healed wound. "It was done by something with a rough edge, not a weapon. It's too jagged to have been a clean cut, and it looks like towards the end one of you disengaged." His eyes flicked up to her face before he went on. "From the length, you're lucky it didn't hit any major veins or arteries. It also wasn't too deep of a wound as you're not in visible pain. Flex you fingers for me and make a fist."

Keeping his hand over part of her wrist and the other and her elbow he kept on. "Move your hand a bit and tell me if anything feels strained or difficult."

"Marcus," Ami said, shooting the younger- yes younger- hunter a look. If there was one thing Ami hated, it was being babied and Marcus was doing just that. Babying her.

He used "the tone" though and Ami sighed, and humored him, flexing a fist and moving her hand. She said, "I'm fine, really. No big deal. Just a run in with a ghost." A bitchy ghost. A ******** horribly ghost that took Adam's form and scared the s**t out of her.

She chuckled lightly, her words playing a lilt of playfulness, brushing it off as though the rip down her arm as though it was a mere papercut. Her facial expressions gave her away though, wincing slightly as she flexed, biting her lip as he told her to move her hand and she obliged. "See, no bleeding. Totally fine."

Younger he might have been but it didn't give her an excuse to him. Eyes didn't miss the twitch in her arm, the small tug of muscle and the tail end of her face showing the hint of pain. "Liar." He'd call her out on it. Letting her arm go he rubbed his head. "You get a gash, one that's gotten deep enough that it's damaged muscle in at least one location, and from the scar, you never went in to get it properly treated. God damn it Ami." Getting up, he went over to the small 'emergency' medical cabinet in the lab, unhooking the box before setting on the table and beginning the task of looking for a heat pad.

"I get not wanting to be a burden, but avoiding medical treatment can have worse consequences than a scar. You might have just ******** up the muscle. With how fast we heal, if we don't do it right, we can end up ******** ourselves over." The heat pack found he pulled it out. Cracking it he walked back, sitting down with a wrap he'd grabbed as well. "Hold out your arm, if you plan on sleeping, least we can do for now, is try to encourage your body to naturally heal it in the proper fashion. If the pain last longer... you'll need to get it looked at by someone with more medical training than me. All I can do is this rough work."

The arm wrapped his anger washed away, concern filling him. "Care to tell me what happened that made a ghost able to do this type of damage?"

Her expression remained neutral as ever, but broke slightly as Marcus cursed. She hated it when he cursed. Especially when it was followed by her name.

She hated this. It was embarrassing and demeaning, like a mother putting a bandaid on her child's knee after a nasty spill. Somehow it didn't seem like Marcus would kiss it and make it better though.

Somewhere in her a ball was slowly unraveling, but she was stubborn. She begrudgingly stuck out an arm, looking down sullenly. She couldn't even bring the expressions of embarrassment to her face. What motivation was there?

When Marcus asked her what happened, Ami's mouth ran dry. Adam. Adam was what happened. He crashed into the battle like a train and became a sitting duck. Some intermediate she'd become. "Lucky shot," she said quietly.

He looked at her with a blank expression. "This wasn't a lucky shot Ami." It was a killer's cut, aimed to disable or rend something more vital. "This was something that got past your defenses. You might have transferred, but you were still good at defending. Someone with that level of competence doesn't get cut up like this and then ignore it." Huffing he leaned back in his chair, arms crossing. "Do I have to dig up the mission report, or would it be a safe bet you omit certain details?"

Huffing and puffing and fussing or not, he looked more worried than anything. "Ignoring something that bad... it's not like you. I may not know you well, but nothing you've ever shown me would make me think you'd ignore your own well being when it comes to something that bad."

"Adam," she admittedly stubbornly letting out a breath she hadn't known she was holding. "The ghost turned into my ..." It was still hard to say. "Ex-fiance, and I ..."

She turned to look away, her hand on her ear, tugging lightly. Her tick. The feelings were still raw. Marcus was only the second person she'd told. It had to have been nearly a year now, but it was still hard to talk about. Ami doubted she'd ever be able to say the entire story calmly.

To keep Marcus from asking about, she quickly continued her story. "It was my fault. Junpei told me not to ... I went anyways." It was stern. She chuckled lightly and said, "He just wants me to sleep."
PostPosted: Sat Jul 14, 2012 11:35 am

"Adam." He raised an eyebrow before she explained, a bit of awareness seeping in. "...." She began to fidget and reach out, grabbing her hand to give it a light squeeze. "Would it be a safe guess to say it had to do with... our ability?" He'd not suffered overly so, but others had. He also wouldn't call what they could do a gift, and calling it a curse was.. abrasive at best.

"I mean, you don't have to talk to me Ami, but bottling things up... It makes it worse. If it's bad enough that it unfazed you so a ghost managed to cause that-" he eyes flicked to the scar, "-then it becomes worrisome. And yes. Junpei is right. You do need sleep. Not in the labs however."

Ami gave a short nod, confirming that it had indeed been her "ability." More than that, but Marcus didn't need more information to get it. She bit her lip as he touched her hand, an odd gesture of human contact that she wasn't used to. People didn't just hold hands lackadaisically with her.

This entire thing ... The entire situation- not just with Marcus now- was wearing her thin. She didn't want to face all of this- let it out like he was saying. It wasn't so easy. If she talked about it, it wouldn't erase the fact that it happened. It wouldn't make the events go away. As far as Ami was concerned, she had her own problems and everyone else had their's. Letting other people know ... it gave them something to hold over you. It gave them a different perspective on you. She'd learned that the first time.

So Ami let go of his hand, pushing the stool back and standing even though it hurt her legs a little. The soreness was nothing compared to her urge to get the ******** out of there. "I have to go," she mumbled, taking a few steps towards the door. Nothing was resolved, but it would stay that way.

"Amalie Raine you walk away and I can assure you that next time something happens it's won't be me pressing for questions as to why." It was a thinly veiled threat, if true. Next time she might not be so lucky, next time someone else might get hurt, and if that happened it would be someone else asking and it would probably not be as pretty or 'kindly' worded.

His voice was even as he moved to the door, shutting it. "I am trying to help you Ami, but if you refuse help, refuse advice, all you're going to do it make matters worse. You don't have to tell me everything, you've told me enough, but for ******** sake." He leaned on the door. "If you won't talk to someone, write it out. Get a recorder and use that. But don't bottle it up. The last thing I need is to see your name on the list of patients here." He rubbed his head again. "Why do you want to just... Why hide it?"

It pissed her off, it really did. She was tired of people looking at her like that. Like they wanted to be all touchy feely with her. Like they wanted to get to know her and be her best friend when she'd tried her damndest to stay away from everyone. She was tired of everyone wanting to talk things out and be best friends. She didn't want to be their friend back.

"Because it's not going to change anything!" she hollered back at him, facing him squarely now. "You think if I pour out all my feelings and have a real HEART to ******** HEART with you it'll make everything better?!" She was more mad at herself than Marcus. It was her own ... "special" way of explaining it to him.

"You really wanna know what happened?" she said, voice level, throwing Junpei down on the lab table so he'd shut up and stop shouting in her ears to be nicer to Marcus when he was just trying to help. Her expression was stony and cold. "She turned into ******** Adam and I froze up because the b*****d cheated on me and I couldn't take it." Her throat was choking up, but she forced the words out, eyes stinging at the corners. "And even though it's been a year, I still can't get the ******** over it because I really ******** loved him Marcus."

Her hands gripped the edge of one of the lab tables, knuckles white as she leaned over it and stared at the wall angrily. Her voice grew quiet, but it wasn't shaking. "And I almost did the same damn thing to Wilson."
