Introduction:
In the years following M-Day, mutants have finally begun to spring up once again. It was once thought that mutants would die out with the last generation, but it seemed that their rebirth is just around the corner. A new wave of mutants have been discovered, and their powers are different than anyone ever expected. The world is not prepared to accept the success of the mutant race, and violent riots and demonstrations have been taking place all over the world demanding that the governments of the world finally put down the 'blip on humanities radar' and exterminate the mutant race once and for all. These demonstrations and rallies, backed by propaganda and highly popular public celebrity supporters, are lead mostly by the Purifiers, a KKK-esque group with significant private financial backing with high ranking members in nearly every powerful corporation and social group in the world. Lately, the influence of the Purifiers has lead to several violent attacks on known mutants, and it seems that the Purifiers have a massive gang army which is not afraid to attack in public, and in great numbers. It is for this reason that the X-Men, as well as the Brotherhood of Mutants, have stepped up their efforts to find this new generation of mutants and protect them, teach them, and save the mutant race.

“…And we will rise up above this most recent wave of biological filth that has rolled in from the seas of degeneration, and turn those tides back! We humans, the SUPERIOR RACE, have so nearly exterminated this blight upon our genes, this joke, this evolutionary dead end, this mistake that is the mutant race. M-Day was the second greatest day in all of mankind’s illustrious and prophetic history, and soon, we will bare witness to its greatest. The penultimate act of humanity! The defining moment of our entire species! The day when mutants are once and for all…wiped from the face of God’s green Earth! Rise up with us brothers and sisters! Join us in our most righteous cause! Men were molded by God’s own hands, women from his ribs, let this mutant filth be returned to whence it came! Let it burn! Let it die in one brilliant flash of fire and brimstone, turn to ash, and be tossed into the winds, never to be seen again! JOIN US! Join the Purifiers all you of pure genes! Join us, and add your light to our fire, add heat to our flame! And together, we will finally make right all that is wrong in this glorious world of ours! Now is the time! Now my brothers and sisters! Take my hand and join our ranks! Join the Purifiers! And soon our world will be pure! This is my promise to you!”

A very charismatic Purifier leader preached his message from a tall podium at the center of Times Square in New York City. A large crowd gathers, mostly made up of present members of the Purifiers, but some anti-mutant sympathizers do assemble to hear the man’s message, and new Purifiers sign up on the spot. Most just pass the assembly by, either not agreeing, not caring, or not brave enough to join the extremist group. The Purifiers have been rising the power steadily for years now, its members spanning a who’s who of political, business, and community leaders. Its financial backing has strangely tripled in recent years and their influence has grown far and wide across the world, but especially in the United States and Europe. It was even speculated that the President himself was a secret member. No one knows their central base of operations outside of high-ranking members, and yet despite their secrecy, the Purifiers have a resounding positive standing in the United States.

With the rise in the Purifier’s power and influence, so too did the violence against known mutants. It seemed that every month, another mutant was either in the hospital or in the morgue from a Purifier attack, or even a random public mob fed up with the mutant threat. It was as if the United States had gone back to the time of segregation, where lynching was common, and arrests were few and far in between. While the mutants of Utopia would plead with the world to remember their moral compasses and argue that mutants have the right to life, it seemed that their heartfelt message would sway few. Humanity found it easier to simply revert back to the old ways than accept the potential of co-existence with a violent and dangerous species. While not all Americans, or even the majority, had a deep hatred for mutant kind, it was the vocal minority that made the United States an incredibly dangerous place to live for mutants.

This is the world we live in. This is the Marvel Universe.

"Nyut nyut nyuuuuuuuut~"

A man in an awkwardly familiar costume was laughing to himself in a seemingly abandoned warehouse somewhere in Greater Manhattan. He continued his chuckle before he started talking to himself more. "Yes! It's true! I'll break them with my Cashews. Crack 'em like a Walnut and turn them into some of my tasty Peanut butter! Those pesky children playing grown up. Getting apart of matters of which they're no concern. They should just live quietly by themselves and try to hide. If they do anything too risky, the bad men will get even more strict. My peaceful life will be shattered... I can't let them do that! No no! No no!" The man turned out to be talking to himself in a mirror with a sick grin plastered on his face. He kept talking, "They think that if they do something, they say something, they let themselves be known, than people will understand. How naive of these people to think that others will understand. The world can't be changed by words. I don't know what those roasted Almonds are thinking, but they Pecan't do it." He began pacing around before suddenly he quickly drew his signature ACME Cashew Gun and shot a Cashew behind his back right into the center of a target. He then slowly put the gun back not taking much pride in the shot. The man pulled out a map of a school that was around the very general area and began drawing out points and putting x's on it, as if he was planning to do something there. "Well, I guess you could say... I'm nUtz."

Purifier member Nick Kelvin was in the audience that afternoon. His father was a high-ranking member, and Nick always wanted to follow in his footsteps. He had been a member since his 16th birthday, the same day that he also discovered he was a mutant. During his initiation into his local gang, Nick cornered a mutant with several other Purifiers. The mutant was able to incapacitate the other Purifiers, but when he grabbed Nick’s arm, his hand began to freeze. Nick thought it was a trick, and struggled to break free, but the more he panicked, the more the mutant froze. After one last strong pull, the mutant shattered in to pieces, and he noticed his skin had turned into a pale white, and the water in the gutter began to freeze as well. It was a terrible revelation, and Nick kept it secret from everyone, especially his father. He despised the fact that he was a mutant, it was his deepest darkest secret, and he looked forward to the day that a cure would be found so he could once again rejoin humanity.

Nathaniel Kelvin was also in attendance, though he wasn’t foolish enough to put himself out in public where his enemies could easily access and attack him. He was in an office building that the Purifiers owned overlooking Times Square so Nathaniel could oversee the entire event. Through a microphone, he was transmitting his speech to the Purifier preacher who was actually on the scene, delivering the message to the people. Next to him, two bodyguards, armed to the teeth and built impressively, who never left Nathaniel’s side. Ever. Nathaniel was a man who always demanded complete control over a situation, and never left anything to chance. It was the main reason he rose to the top of the ranks of the Purifiers. Nathaniel also kept a close watch over his son, who he easily spotted in the audience of the demonstration. Nick didn’t exactly stick out in this crowd, but Nathaniel loved his son dearly and was always careful to look out for him, protect him, make sure he was successful. It was an investment in his legacy, and it was looking bright.

Alicia Allerdyce, daughter of famed and infamous deceased mutant Pyro, was also someone who was watching the demonstration with great interest, but for a different reason. Alicia was a new member of the X-Men, and her mission was to quell and possible violence that could result from the demonstration. Alicia was always sure, when the Purifiers were involved, there was always going to be violence. Alicia was in a squad that also consisted of Shadowcat, Rogue, Hope Summers, and Pixie, hoping that an all feminine unit would appear less violent and aggressive than one with males should the hypothetical conflict make the news, though it wasn’t likely the way that anti-mutant sentiments were on the rise lately. The squad stayed in the shadows, watching from a safe distance in the alleyways in disgust. Each one of them wanted to interrupt the ignorant preacher and take down the Purifiers once and for all, but they knew that there would only be more, and it would be viewed as an act of aggression, or even war, on behalf of the mutant race, and it would only cause more pain and suffering. So for now, they could only sit…and wait…

It was a morning not unlike any other in Manhattan. Cars were honking furiously as traffic gridlocked, police sirens could be heard in the distance as they responded to some emergency or other...and a pair of spiders were swinging high above the streets of New York City on lines of synthetic webbing (although one of the duo's webs were, in fact, organic).

"This had so better not make me late..." muttered the slightly smaller of the pair. Judging by their attire, the larger of the pair could be identified as your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man, clad in his classic red-and-blue costume. The other, younger spider was clad in a costume that hadn't been seen since the Spider-Island incident quite some time ago, last worn by the "Spider-Man" than slew The Queen and put an end to the chaos...and would eventually come to be known as the fourth Scarlet Spider.

"Don't worry kiddo,", Spider-Man said in his usual jovial manner. "We'll have this wrapped up in no time! You'll get there on time...don't worry about it!"

The Scarlet Spider groaned at the bad pun as he fired off another web line before he replied mid-swing, "With the famous Parker luck, that's exactly what I'm worried about, Uncle Pete."

Thanks, in part, to the rush hour traffic jam, the web-slingers were the first on the scene of this morning's disturbance, a bank robbery in progress, and landed quietly on the roof of the First Natinal Bank of New York. Using the racket caused by the alarm to cover their entrance through the sunroof, the Spiders crawled along the ceiling as they positioned themselves to take action.

Two pair of well placed web lines had the quartet of would-be robbers disarmed in short order as their pistols were yanked out of their hands. "Looking
for these?" Spider-Man and Scarlet Spider quipped in unison as they dangled the confiscated pistols just out of the reach of their previous "owners". The robbers looked on with horrified expressions for a moment, before exclaiming "HOLY CRAP...THERE'S TWO OF HIM! RUN!!!" They only managed to get a few steps toward the door before the super-hero and his protege sprung from their perches.

Several minutes later, the would-be robbers were hanging upside down from the ceiling, wrapped nearly head to toe in webbing, and the heroic duo strolled out of the door just as the police finally started to arrive. "We left you guys a little present...they picked the wrong morning for this stunt", Scarlet Spider grumbled as he and his uncle walked right past the NYPD officers.

Taking a second to check his watch, the younger Parker groaned. 8:45AM "I TOLD you we'd end up being late..."

The Spiders quickly fired off web lines and resumed their original course. "
Sorry about that, Benjy..." Spidey said sheepishly once they were high enough above the streets so that pedestrians below couldn't make out their conversation.

As their path brought them within proximity of the Baxter Building, the original wall-crawler had an idea...

Nick was enjoying the demonstration, knowing his father was in complete control in some remote location. It was how his father operated, and he figured it out years ago. Nick and his fellow Purifiers supported the speech completely, but not all of Nick’s friends were so understanding. Nick’s college roommate, Mark, happened to be in the city at the same time, and noticed Nick in the crowd, full Purifier garb, and cheering the preacher. It was unnerving, and Mark decided to say something about it. He pushed his way through the crowd, gripping Nick on the arm and signaling for him to go with him. Nick didn’t know what was going on, but he obliged anyway, wondering if something was wrong.

“What’s the matter? What’s going on dude?” Nick asked.

“What’s going on? Dude! You’re a Purifier? Why didn’t you tell me?” Mark asked.

“I didn’t think it was important. Besides, what do you care? You’re not a mutant. You got nothing to worry about.” Nick replied.

“No, I’m not, but I don’t think they all need to be exterminated like the Jews,” Mark argued.

“This is nothing like the Nazis killing the Jews. The Jews are people, mutants aren’t. Come on Mark, don’t be naïve. Human beings have had free reign to kill any other species on this planet since the dawn of time, animal or plant. Mutants should be no different. Now bug off man, I got to get back to the demonstration,” Nick said dismissively.

Mark grabbed his wrist, not willing to give up so easily. Nick turned around, obviously not amused.

“No, I’m taking you back to campus, we need to get you away from these people,” Mark said, determined.

“These people? These people are my family, they’ve raised me, they’ve taken care of me. I just met you two years ago. Who do you think I’m going to believe?” Nick replied, defiantly. It was around that time that the other Purifiers were noticing the conflict, and some made their way over to find out what was going on.

“We have a problem here?” one Purifier asked.

“Nah man, it’s cool. This outsider was just leaving,” Nick said, glaring at Mark, but Mark didn’t let go. He pulled hard on Nick’s wrist.

“Yeah, I’m leaving, with Nick. I’m getting your claws out of him,” Mark replied, but another Purifier grabbed Nick’s other wrist, pulling him back. Nick was now in a very conflicting tug-o-war.

“He’s not going anywhere. He’s one of us, he’s a loyal human, not like you, traitor,” the Purifier said defiantly.

The two began pulling back and forth, and Nick began to stress out. Both citizens and Purifiers were rallying around the conflict, cheering for one side or the other. The noise was deafening, his arms hurting, and he didn’t know what to do. He was stressing out, he didn’t want to be the center of attention, he never wanted that, but now hundreds of people were arguing over him. Nick was beginning to lose control, and his skin began to turn a pale white, his eyes changed to a powder blue, and his brown hair changed into a frosted white look. His body temperature was rapidly dropping, but no one seemed to notice, they were too busy arguing with each other. That was, until both Mark and the Purifier who was fighting for him yelled out in pain, holding their hands as frostbite overtook them instantly. Their hands were black, and they looked up to see that Nick had transformed. He was much more than he claimed to be. He was a mutant. The Purifiers were shocked and outraged, the citizens were frightened, seeing the two men whose hands were now essentially dead, and it looked as if Nick had done it on purpose, which was far from the truth. Nick had lost control thanks to the panic in the situation, and had reverted to his mutant form, which he worked so hard to hide. Even his father saw him for who he was.

The Purifiers and citizens alike all backed away from Nick, letting him stand alone for all the world to see. Nick looked around to see the looks on his brothers’ faces, and they were that of disgust and hatred. He looked to the citizens, and they had a look of horror and mistrust. He looked up to the building where he knew his father was presiding, hoping, praying for forgiveness from the one chance he had at getting it. There was a dead silence, and a hush fell over the area.

Nathaniel saw every second of the events that just transpired, and he stood up from his chair, brushing his goatee as a wave of thoughts and emotions rushed through him. With all the knowledge he possessed about mutants, both public and hidden, he never once suspected that his own son would be among the inferior species. Nick was 23, which means he had known about his mutation for years now, and chose not to come forward about it. Nick betrayed his father’s trust, and he had brought shame upon his family, his legacy. It was a shame that he would quickly have to eliminate in order to protect his standing. The Purifiers were brothers, but even brothers plot to overtake their siblings. He would touch the button on his microphone, and send another message to his preacher on the scene.

“There is a mutant infestation within our ranks. This impurity will not be tolerated. No imperfection within humanity will be tolerated, no matter who, or what it is.” The preacher relayed Nathaniel’s words perfectly. Those words crushed Nick to his core, knowing that even his father was against him. Tears welled up in his eyes, instantly freezing to his face.

“Father! Please! I’m sorry for hiding this from you! I only wanted to serve your purpose! I wanted to make the world pure, to fulfill your vision!” Nick pleaded.

“You can serve only one purpose now,” the preacher interrupted with Nathanial’s message, “and that is to show the world that the Purifiers will settle for nothing less…than total…and complete…extinction of the mutant race. If you truly wish to support our cause, you will stand still…and accept your fate with what honor you have left.”

Nick let the words register in his head. His father just told him he planned on murdering him, his own son, in cold blood, in the middle of Times Square. Nick knew his father wasn’t a man to change his mind. His conviction was second to none, but still he couldn’t believe it. Nick backed away, but he knew he was surrounded. The only way he was getting out of this situation alive was using his powers, which he hated to do, but he liked living more than he hated using his powers, but not by much. Nick clenched his fist and focused, and turned the ground below a group of citizens to a sheet of ice, causing them to slip and fall. Nick took this opportunity and ran with it, literally, running through the hole in the crowd and fleeing into the city. Running for his life.

“LOOK! SEE HOW HE ATTACKS THE INNOCENT TO SAVE HIS OWN HIDE! MUTANTS OUR OUT OF CONTROL! WE WILL EXTERMINATE THIS THREAT! THIS MUTANT’S ICE WILL BE BURNED AWAY! AND WE WILL NEVER FEAR HIM AGAIN! NOW GO MY CHILDREN! FIND THIS MUTANT, AND EXTINGUISH HIS THREAT TO OUR PERFECT WORLD!” The preacher called out over his microphone, not the words of Nathaniel anymore, but that of a slightly less significant Purifier leader. The Purifiers roared in support, and began giving chase, intent on whipping Nick from the face of the earth.
In the mean time, Nathaniel watched his son flee for his life, and he raised his cell phone to his head. He pressed speed dial 1, and was instantly connected to his most trusted ally.

“You’re up. Extreme prejudice.” He simply said before hanging up.

Per her orders from Nathaniel Kelvin, Viktoria had deftly blended in with the crowd at the Purifier rally at Times Square for the purpose of keeping an eye on the attendees but more importantly, to keep tabs on his son. Nathaniel was especially keen on grooming his heir to follow in his footsteps and lead his Purifiers to greater glory than what he had already achieved himself. Viktoria had heard the old man go on and on about his plans for his successor many times and while hearing him speak about his plans of exterminating the mutant race made her sick, she couldn’t let her distaste show for the sake of her job. You see, Viktoria Adelaide Wagner was the hired hitman of Nathaniel Kelvin and while he treasured her services and considered her his closest ally among the Purifiers, there were things she kept hidden from everyone, her boss included. The currently blonde-haired, green-eyed female was circulating through the masses as Mr. Kelvin piped his speech into the preacher at the podium, keeping an eye on Kelvin’s office suite in a nearby tower high above the crowd and his son as he observed the rally like most of those in attendance. She was readjusting the Bluetooth earpiece as the reactions of the crowd around her alerted her to a possible disturbance. Viktoria kept her eyes trained on what appeared to be the source of the commotion and her eyes grew large in shock as she watched Nick Kelvin reveal in front of the crowd and the world that the son of the leader of a prominent anti-mutant organization was what it loathed the most- a mutant. Viktoria stared the boy down from elsewhere in the crowd and listened to him beg for his life with his father before the preacher- his father’s mouthpiece- issued the command for the Purifiers to pursue him. It was not long after that her earpiece filled with the voice of Nathaniel Kelvin as he issued the order to kill his own blood. She inhaled deeply before ripping her Beretta Px4 Storm Sub-Compact from its holster and pushing through the horde of bodies before her, shouting commands harshly in German as she punched and shoved her way through the crowd until she was able to pursue her target freely on foot. Viktoria felt the adrenaline surge in her veins and ran forward with her gun at the ready, firing an occasional shot at her boss’ son. Today, Nick Kelvin would face death itself.

The Doc

Doctor Jonathan Aarons was blissfully ignorant of what was happening at the demonstration, instead working in his lab like Nathaniel ordered him to do. He mixed chemicals and collected data, all for just one thing; A virus. Not just any virus. His virus would kill off all mutants, and those that carry the gene to pass it on. He brought up the idea to Nathaniel, who gave The Doc two thumbs up on the project. As he worked, his mind started to wander, remembering the very mutant who made it so his hatred was so great. Tyler Lee. Who was, in essence, The Doc's son. While The Doc himself didn't hold the gene for mutation, he did use some of his DNA to create the freak. Then, how was he repaid? His "son" breaks loose and destroys his lab. That was that. Twenty years of work, down the toilet in one bleak, gore-filled night. But things were better now. Now, he was the top scientist in The Purifiers. Now, he was given free reign to conduct whatever experiments he needed in order to help abolish the threat of mutants. He knew exactly where to start. A certain mansion.

Dread

Tyler, winded, arrived at the gates of the Xavier's Institute For The Gifted. He was hoping, praying, that someone would be at the gate to allow him entry. Once he arrived, he noticed a small, tough looking man smoking a cigar. "Hey, could you possibly help me? I...I...."
"Spit it out, bub, what do you need?" the man said.
"I need entry. Can I come onto the grounds?" Tyler asked.
"Why exactly should I let you..." Before the man could finish his sentance, Tyler teleported next to him. "Well...that answers my question."
"This is the Mutant Academy, correct?" Tyler asked.
"Well, yes, but...hang on, something's happening. Gotta go, kid. You're on your own for a bit." The small, angry looking man ran off, leaving Tyler standing in the middle of a massive garden, confused.

- The Beginning -

"Gabe..... Gabe... Gabe," Azuriel words floated through Mr. Westfall's head bringing him into his own consciousness. Gabe Westfall now stood in his own mind which looked rather black and distorted at the moment, the demon that forced his way into Gabe's body now standing in front of him. "Who are you? And where the f**k am I?" Gabe was shocked that he could finally speak, but did he really want to know the answer to his own questions? "I am the bringer of death, the judge, jury, and executioner. I am Azuriel!" Every single word pierced Gabe's body like needles, the demon spoke english but it also spoke every other language at the same time at different volumes, it was hard to make out at first but slowly the demon's different languages disappeared until he was only speaking english. "I am done searching your mind, I know everything about you Mr. Westfall. Every single memory. Every single moment of your life now forever recorded in my mind." Gabe didn't know what to do and his mind was going faster then every, he couldn't think straight at all, but he managed to speak. "Why are you doing this to me?" Azuriel walked closer to Gabe and the two locked eyes for the first time. I know everything about you Mr. Westfall. So how about I return the favor?" Azuriel grabbed Gabe by the neck and lifted him into the air with one arm, and with his free hand he touched Gabe on the forehead with his index finger and then dropped Gabe to his knees. "While you try to find what your looking for Mr. Westfall, I'll be taking this new body out for a spin," Azuriel said with a sinister smile on his face. Gabe's body in the real world now controlled by Azuriel stood up, his black feather wings spread wide. Azuriel shot straight into the air and flew off, his destination... New York.

Nick ran through the city like a bat out of hell. He was now being pursued by hundreds of Purifiers that just minutes ago, he would have laid down his life for. But now? His dirty secret was out. Nick was a mutant, and now they would never take him back. They would settle for nothing short of his immediate death, and so Nick had to find some sort of safe place to escape to, which would not be easy. His father had eyes everywhere, and there wasn’t a place in New York Nick felt safe running to. And so, he would just run, until he found some sort of way to escape, even if it meant leaving the city all together.

Nick ran frantically through the dense city, jumping over the hoods of cars and pushing people aside. He looked back from time to time, seeing all the damage he was causing inadvertently; clothes freezing to pedestrian bodies, cars stalling and brakes seizing, and he realized he had to be more careful. It left him even more vulnerable, because now he not only had to watch out for the pedestrians in front of him, but worry about the Purifiers giving chase, who would stop at nothing to take him out. But that wasn’t all. Now, Nick could hear gun shots being fired behind him, and noticed the points of impact around his feet, and in the walls he ran past. This was no ordinary Purifier, as they weren’t allowed to hold guns for fear of the younger members’ mentality. Someone from his father’s personal squad was hunting him down, and that meant that Nick was in serious trouble now. He would take time through straightaways to steal glances behind him to see how close those bloodhounds were, and to see who it was shooting the gun. He wasn’t able to catch much, but from what he could tell…it was a woman.

Alicia and her squad noticed the commotion, and knew this was just a matter of time before something happened. What they didn’t expect, however, was the disturbance coming from one of the Purifiers own. From their distance, the girls couldn’t tell if the mutant was a spy infiltrating the group, or maybe an older mutant whose powers were emerging for the first time. Either way, the mutant was in trouble, and they had to intercept. Shadowcat began phasing through walls in the city, staying out of sight, but keeping an eye on the mutant and the Purifier mob. As she followed, Kitty was relaying information to the rest of the squad who was following on rooftops, calling out directions and letting them know where to turn, and where they could land to set up their ambush and quell this engagement before it started. Alicia was especially excited. She wanted things to escalate, she wanted to punish a few Purifiers.

Viktoria kept chasing Nick Kelvin through the alleyways and behind buildings and down side streets, trying her best to close the distance between them and fulfill her directive from the elder Kelvin. She kept having to use her surroundings to her advantage as Nick threw a heavy frost over the things he hurried past, jumping on to cars and using fire escape ladders to keep her off of the chilled ground as Nick tried to throw off her and the horde of Purifiers behind her. She was none too thrilled that Nathaniel had made her job that much harder because a crowd was there to witness all she would do and could potentially hinder her mission but every time a situation like this arose in her service to the Purifier leader, Viktoria chose not to argue because silence was in her best interest. Her silence and her skill both ensured a rather generous paycheck with the benefits package to match so what use did she have in risking that by fussing over something as petty as a crowd pursuing the same man she was? Kelvin was trying to prove a point in a rather Machiavellian way but she couldn’t say she wouldn’t do the same; casualties always piled up in a mad rush to secure power. Viktoria followed Nick as he made several twists and turns onto smaller thoroughfares and clambered up a massive SUV parked in the middle of the alleyway, graciously allowing the boy to create some space between them while giving her a better chance of her shots making their mark. Her marksmanship was good in close quarters but it almost always got better from distances. Readjusting her finger around the trigger and raising her arms up in preparation to fire, Viktoria chose her target- a place just below Nick’s kneecap on the back of his leg- and inhaled the sharp, pungent New York air, exhaling slowly as she pulled the trigger and made her shot. Viktoria’s job wasn’t to play nice and please everyone; her job was to bring destruction. If the Kelvin boy wanted to make it difficult by running, he was only bringing more harm to himself.
