It had been over a year since the stallion Faris had been home. His travels had been fruitful: he had met a few notable friends. Though, he always still felt as though he didn't belong anywhere. He never felt like a Kalona, though many in the land treated him as such. He didn't even have horns or a wicked tail. His confounding wings!! Perhaps they were more of a curse than a blessing.
Though, while a few mares has caught his gaze, there was one in particular that was seemed to be invading his thoughts the most: a small, strange creature with fluffy tails and claws...
... so lost in his thought, he felt himself walk straight into another stallion who had stopped to drink at the watering hole...

"Watch it!" vonCoren snapped, jerking his head up from the water and narrowing his eyes. These big, blundering oafs!! You think such ungainly, giant creatures would at the very least be able to see where others were standing, trying to get a drink. He snorted through his nose and shook out his mane, catching several locks in his antlers. "What are you looking at?" he barked defensively, knowing that most Soquili looked at him strangely with his wings and horns and teeth... not that any of them would usually be winning any beauty contests. What hypocrites these creatures were!

Dennaedis picked through the forest, making sure she wan't going too fast her ward, Mikaeus, couldn't keep up. She had been with the Soquili since he was just a foal, and was incredibly protective of him. He had mentioned being thirsty, so she was taking him to the watering hole.
Never having sight, Mikaeus got around the lands pretty well. He would let Dennaedis do most of the navigating, but he was pretty efficient at making sure he didn't trip over rocks or dips. He also had a keen sense of smell and hearing. He could already hear the lapping of the water in the creek from here, but he let Dennaedis lead him regardless, They broke the treeline and Mikaeus felt the heat of the summer sun beat down on his colorful coat.
Moments later he heard the escalated voices of two quarreling stallions. Dennae furrowed her brow and nudged gently on Mikaeus' legs, trying to get him to turn around, but the stallion just smiled and moved forward, heading towards the voices.

"Sorry," Faris growled, the fur on this shoulder bristling. "No offense," he spat back, back peddling. Though, he couldn't help but stare at this strange, frowning, fluffy creature. But his stare was caught and he winced at the accusatory bark. "Nothing," he shouted back, his leathery wings fanning out as his temper rose. He jerked his head down to the water, taking a few deep pulls of the water. He was in no mood to deal with someone else right now, especially someone as grumpy as this fellow.
When he looked up, the funny looking creature was still staring at him, but a flash of color pulled his attention off to the distance. A brilliantly colored young stallion was making his way towards the river now, followed by a disgruntled looking goat trailing behind.

vonCoren watched Faris' wings wearily. He had not personally ever met these demon-like Soquili, but he had heard of them. Mean things, with the wings of bats, yes? Was he one? Was he going to pick a fight? But on the other hand, this other stallion had a horn - a curved unicorn like horn. How strange?
He shook his head again, trying to clear it. Why did he even care? About their histories, races, breeds? Though years had passed since he ate that giant barrel of biscuits, vonCoren had tried his damnedest not to consider himself 'one of them.'
When Faris gaze drifted beyond him, he followed it, turning around to face the new, spotted stallion that was approaching with a chipper gait and disarming smile.

Mikaeus was careful as he got close to the water, using his ears to tell him how close he was to the shore. He stopped as he sensed a body near him, and smiled in their direction. "Greetings friends," he said happily, taking a big whiff of air. He had heard at least two voices: now he was smelling them,though subtly. They did not reek of death - that was a good sign. Blood on Soquili fur usually meant a skinwalker or Kalona. One of them smelled downright exotic: like spices and the ocean itself.
"Tell me, is there a problem here?"

How strange this stallion, thought Faris, that he seems to be looking at me while not looking at all? Faris took a belabored sigh, folding his wings back at his sides and tossed his thick mane. "No," he said, already feeling calmer. Something about Mikaeus smile and pale eyes seemed to comfort him, and make him realize how much of a gruff bully he was being. "I was just distracted and ran into him accidentally," he stressed, giving the antlered stallion a sidelong glace. "My apologies," he said to him, bowing his head.
With that, he have a small nod to the spotted on and unfurled his wings, taking off towards his parents' last know location.

"We ain't friends," vonCoren sneered as he watched the other stranger fly off. He fluffled his own wings and frowned deeper: there were times he certainly did wish he knew how to fly. Right now seemed like a good time.
But he looked back at the brightly colored stallion and cocked his head. His eyes were pale and unfocused: barely visibly against the natural white of his eye. He was blind...
"Sorry," he said, suddenly feeling guilty, though he had no idea why. "Thanks for your help," he said with a huff. "I guess I ought to be going, too." He shook out his fur and trotted down the edge of the bank, seeking respite from the blistering sun.

Though he felt smiling until he knew they were gone, Mikaeus gave a defeated sigh as they retreated. He had been hoping to make a new friend. But sometimes, its just not meant to be. "They seemed so bitter about something," he told his little goat friend. She looked back up at him and learned against his leg. "Oh well," Mikaeus lamented, shrugging it off. "At least they quit fighting, right? That's something."
Dennae nodded in agreement: it was something.
