Anyone else here study Aikido? I'm a Shodan, hoping to go for my Nidan in a few more months.

I studied Aikido in college, but haven't had time to persue the training since then. There are a few other aikidoka around, but I haven't seen them post in while.

We talk about aikido... sweatdrop Seriously, though, the head of our dojo association teaches aikijujutsu, and we talk a lot about aiki concepts. Depending on what you want to talk about, I may be able to fake it! razz

Well, I was wondering if anyone had any suggestions for something for me to branch out on. I've done about as much as I can at this moment in Aikido. I can't be tested for Nidan for almost 6 more months I think. I've been wanting to branch out into another style of martial arts. Something practical, but also something where my training in Aikido would be helpful. I was thinking about Judo.

Judo is good. Aikijujutsu and jujutsu would make the most use of your footwork, and BJJ wouldn't hurt. Karate would complement the reactionary nature of Aikido well with some more aggressive movement. It all depends on what you want to do. One of my best friends is an aikidoka who studied some kempo, and he now swears by mixing martial arts.

My personal goal as an aiki-jutsuka is to learn aikido,hapkido,chin-na and jiujitsu. They practicly go hand in hand. Judo for the throws,Aikido for the "light" self defense, hapkido to deal with the kicks,chin-na for the wrestling and stand up concepts dealing with nerves and meridians, and jujitsu for the ground work.
Now not at ALL taking anything away from other styles, this is just MY personal prefference. I know you may note a lack of strikes in my arts chosen but that is because I am not much of a striker tho I do have a small MT and kempo background. Plus in out aiki-jujitsu class we incorporate alot of wing chun strikes.
