The lands she traveled trough just seemed stranger and stranger. Having come from the badlands she was used to heat. The frozen weather she had been traveling in made her wonder if she had been going to die. Now she was away from the snow and cold. This land had lots of vegetation. It was almost too green for Ayria to tolerate. After a days travel the forest melted away into vast rolling plains. Having never seen so much grass in one place all the mare could do was stare for a few moments in the waning twilight hours. It was nice to be in an area as open as the badlands she knew so well, and yet it was disconcerting to not be able to see the dirt and rock below the grass. Stepping slowly out in the plains Ayria kept looking down expecting to find a hole or a snake. Snorting at her own cowardliness she kept plodding forward not willing to admit how mush not seeing the ground disturbed her. The grass that was anywhere from knee to shoulder high bothered her too. It kept brushing her coat with a soft hiss as she walked making her want to turn and look for a snake. Her muscles twitching out of reflex she considered turning back. Her stubborn pride argued against it and kept her going forward. Having settled on a course she then tried to rationalize it. It was too cold in the mountains, she'd freeze to death in a season. The forests were so constrictive. Since she had no herd to call her own now there would be none to watch her back if something suddenly attacked. Yes that seems right. At least out here she could run and get away.

Damien had been grazing in the tall grass. It didn't bother him like it did other Azrein as he couldn't see anyways. He was used to listening for critters around his hooves. He was humming to himself as he slowly grazed but soon heard the sound of another. His head shot up quickly, allowing his ears to spin and lock onto the direction of the sounds. "Hello, You managed to sneak up on me!" he said and took a few steps towards the hoof steps. "I am Damien, might I ask your name?" he had been wary recently with all the rumors going around about the six roaming around creating havoc. He could defend himself no problem but he wanted to know if he needed to or not.

Ayira froze she had been so distracted by looking for snakes and such she hadn’t even noticed there was another azrein nearby. Snorting she backed up three steps. She looked at him. He had something strange over his face and on his body. She tossed her had so she could look at him without her mane in her eyes. He seemed friendly enough, but most did until she spoke. “Ayira.” Even though she said it quietly and didn’t elaborate she could hear the gravelly voice that made so many others think she was growling at them. She kept her eyes on the male and wondered if he was dangerous. He seemed like he could easily be. What are those things on him? Ayira had never seen such things before.

Damien snorted slightly at the sound of her voice. Was she being defensive? Perhaps he should give it a few minutes before he let his guard down. "It's nice to meet you Ayira" he said kindly and took one step closer to get a good sense of her. The chains clinked slightly as he did and he took in a deep breath, taking in her smell. A female? It was interesting to have a female greet him in such a strange and slightly defensive way. Surely she was not threatened by him! He could beat her in a fight he was sure, but most assumed since he was blind he was helpless. "What brings you to this beautiful meadow?" he asked without facing his head towards her.

Blinking surprised she wondered why he didn’t become more aggressive after hearing her voice. Others had. She held her ground as he came closer. She answered his question still not sure if he was going get violent. Still she glanced around the meadow out of habit. “I travel.” She kept starring. “What is that thing on your face?” A hawk’s beak, Ayira finally placed what she was reminded of. Surely he couldn’t see with it on. That much was clear since he wasn’t looking at her. “Do you need help getting it off?” She moved a single step toward the male approaching from the left. The male had other things dangling off him but they didn’t seem to be constricting him in any way.

Damien smiled at her question, many azrein did not have the guts to point out his face shield immediately but stared at it so long that even Damien knew they were looking. "This on my face? My eyes cannot see, so this protects my face. I appreciate your offering but it does not come off" he said with a polite smile. His ear perked towards the left but he did not feel that she was threatening yet. "Traveling is good, but does it not make you tired?" he asked turning to face her knowing it was probably annoying or weird to her.

Blind? Ayira looked around for a herd member would be around she saw no one. She looked back to him and noticed his ear was cocked toward her. He was at least smart enough to be wary of her. She couldn’t blame him there were many who would take advantage of the situation and could easily harm him. She nodded her head as he turned toward her to answer his question and then realized that he couldn’t see her. She sighed. “I am weary. Still it makes no difference.” Her tail casually flicked causing a lot of rustling behind her. “Your herd did not leave you here did they?” She looked around again and was disturbed she saw no one.

The stallion smiled at her worried tone of voice. "Traveling can do that. I hope you plan on resting a short while in this field. It's quite refreshing and relaxing!" he said nodding his head in that odd azrein fashion. "Herd? No I don't have a herd, I take care of myself and my chosen who is a young human. However he is being watched which allowed me this time to come alone myself to the tall grasses" Since he didn't know where borders were for each land he named them on what was in them or how they felt against his hooves. "I take it that you don't have a herd either? If you are traveling a lot I would suspect you are like me and prefer quiet?"

Just why was he smiling? He seemed so cheery even though he was alone and inhibited by his loss of sight. She made a small groaning noise as she looked around. She didn’t want to admit it but he was right. The tall grass could hide her so she could be safe. She didn’t think this male would be a threat to her if she rested. “Human?” She said the word apathetically not really sure what to make of it. She had seen human’s take land and take up space. She didn’t like that. She believed the land should be free and open to all. Still if a human took care of an Azrein who was unable to care for themselves then she couldn’t fault them could she? “How can you be so calm?”

Damien let out a soft laugh. "My dear, I can also ask you how you can be so tense. If something is going to happen, it will. Being tense will not help either way!" he bowed his head to get a large mouthful of grass. He chewed it thoughtfully and then added "But perhaps I am calm because I know that if I need to I can not only protect myself but you if you should need it". He sighed softly as he shifted his weight onto one back leg.

Shaking her head she looked at him supersized. He could tell how tense she was. Forcing herself to relax she looked around. “I am unaccustomed to land with grasses this high. The noise they make as I pass is disconcerting.” Her ears twitched and she snorted softly. “You need not look after me. I can flee just fine. Look to yourself blind one.” She moved closer to him and nudged him with her head. It was kind of him to think he could defend her, but he could not see. How much help could he possibly be?
