Elda, newly fledged sentinel of the Firekin, was making her way through the heart of the lands, preparing to head - once again - back out towards the Bonelands and the newly constructed Firekin Outpost. She had intended to stay only to introduce the ambassador to the Regents and then be on her way again, except that she had been told to rest a while before heading back. They didn't want her over exerting herself, or something like that, so she had opted to rest ni the shade for a time before moving at a slow pace through the lands.
It was strange being back. Strange but good. The heat prickled in her eyes and wriggled its way between her fur to burn against the skin on her back. But it was good and the heat of it seemed to rejuvenate her. It hadn't taken her long to get the feel for the sand beneath her paws, her toes splaying across the shifting grains as she traversed the dunes. The hard, compact ground of the outside world had hurt her pads, at first, and to be back on the soft golden seas had come as something of a relief - even when they were uncomfortably warm.
She turned her head to look across at the dens she was passing by, catching a whiff of a familiar scent.
A sister?
It felt like too long since she had spoken with them. Even as a youth, she had dutifully dedicated herself to training, not sparing much time for family. With a war on, perhaps she should have been more careful to spend time with her relatives. There was no saying what might happen.

They were sisters but they look different paths that was for sure.
Her sister never really liked fighting, guarding, watching or anything else like that really. While she was growing up there was really only one thing that she could say that she was truly interested in and that was taking care of the other lions in the pride, healing them and making them better. She enjoyed it, she remembered when she was younger and she used to follow around Ea wanting to learn everything that she could from her. While all of this was going on she sure got what she wanted. She was almost always busy, now that there was not only a drought but attacks and everything else going on. At the second it was a little quiet and Sera could take a break but her mind was still in the medic's den but she was told to take a break spend some time doing nothing or speaking or relaxing.
She couldn't do any of those. She didn't feel like it. She really just wanted to do what she normally did. As she shuffled around in the den, a scent too caught her attention. She was more than sure that is was one of her siblings. She wasn't really sure which one it was. She wasn't really sure what any of her siblings were up to. She was really into her job and because of that she never really spent too much time with her siblings. Not only that but while she was pretty sure they were all out wandering around outside of the pride, Sera had never stepped out of it. She wasn't sure if she should be going with them helping but she stayed home waiting for orders of what to do next, normally it was just to stick around and help out in the dens.
She moved toward the front of the den, squinting as her eyes adjusted to the outside desert light. Her eyes wandered looking for the figured that she smelled. "Elda!" She greeted a large smile was on her face. She was a little happy to see the lioness a familiar face, she never really spent too much time with her siblings but she didn't see the harm in doing it now.

The large, stocky lioness allowed her eyes to widen just a little at the sight of her bright-pelted sister. They were alike in appearance but not in interests and the hulking female turned to move steadily across to where her sibling stood - at the mouth of the medic den.
"Seraphina." She greeted in her low, rumbling voice. For a moment she was quiet, flicking her ears indecisively. She wasn't good at small talk. The 'how are yous' and 'isn't the day hot' type of comments seemed pointless to her. Everyone always answered the same, curt way; without truth, without feeling. So, instead, she asked the next best thing.
"Nergui been about since the last time?" There hadn't seemed a good moment to ask the Regents and, besides, she wasn't high enough rank to be asking them questions in any case.

Sera's tail flicked behind her as she adjusted more and more to the light. That was always an interesting thing about the desert to her. You could hide from the sun all you wanted but as soon as you stepped back into it, it was going to be bright and in your face. She felt like that was a good description of not only the desert but also the lions that resided in it. She knew that even for a lioness who didn't fight it was even a good description of herself. Her temper had a habit of flaring up when she found herself facing lions that didn't exactly listen to the medical advice that they were given. Other times her temper was quiet but she had seen many lions that didn't have the quiet temper.
She wandered a little closer to her sister before offering a smile. "Sera," she corrected as politely as she could. she didn't want to sound like a jerk but to her, her name was long and she would much rather just be called the shorter version of it. She was a little caught off guard by the lioness's greeting. Then again she wasn't too surprised Sera wasn't the best with interacting for fun, she also didn't like those comments and the silly talks that never really got anywhere. Especially not with family, there was something in common that the two sisters did have. "Lately?" She said simply before thinking about it and then turning toward her sister. "Not that I know of." she said simply her mood dropped a little. "I don't know, I mostly learn those things through the lions coming through the medical dens and I haven't had any injured for those reasons, mostly drought related things." She hated the drought related things more than the battle wounds. Most battle wounds could be fixed however the wounds and struggles that came with the drought wounds weren't exactly easily fixed or even fixable. she wasn't sure if they were really but she felt helpless there wasn't anything she could do about them. She tried to brighten up with a laugh. "Well! You're the one out there. Anything new?" She asked curiously.

"Sera." She repeated, her tone even, neither amused or annoyed by the correction. Her tail flicked and her ears finally stopped dancing about her head, falling flat. "No injured. No Nergui." She said simply, shrugging her bulky shoulders and taking another few steps forwards - closing the gap between them.
Then, close enough that they could speak without raised voices, she swept the sand with a paw and seated herself, lifting her eyes to look at her sister. Her heavy-set brow lowered over her eyes. "There is no war with the Ithambo'hlabathi people." She replied, glad that there was some good news. "They won't give us trouble. I return with one of their people and some of the other sentinels have moved further into rogue country." She reeled off the report with practised ease, simply and to the point. "I have not heard back from them yet. Could be good news. Could be bad."
She gave another shrug, partnered with an inelegant snort. "I'm going to be heading back first thing tomorrow. At sun up."
She glanced around. "Everyone has recovered from the last attack, I take it?" That would be good news if so.

Sera nodded at her sisters comment. "That is good, but not at the same time." She paused for a moment as she thought about it. "We need to find them before they attack us again." she muttered although she did like helping others but if there were A LOT of lions in the den at once it was a little frustrating. She turned toward her sister again and then she flopped down on her haunches with a huff. "Well, I do have to say more than anything we need rain, a large storm." She sighed and flicked her tail around behind her a little irritated. "We really need the rains more than anything else."
"I am glad that there is no war." She said simply that was a bit of a relief, "That is the least of what we need, we don't need more fighting with others." She growled a little, and thens hook it off, she wasn't going to be angry for no reason her sister wan't the cause of her frustration. She felt like everything else at this point was the cause of her frustration. "hopefully it is all good news." She stated simply with a nod before she paused and then looked at her sister.
"I hope you guys keep everyone safe." She said simply before flicking her tail around and answering her sister's comment. "Everyone is either recovered or almost completely recovered." She nodded. "Ea is amking a few of them stop by and get a check up anyway, which is good because you never know."

She smacked her mouth noisily as if to test it for dryness and gave a grim nod in response. "Water is needed. There is water at the Bonelands but not enough to sustain us forever if the rains do not come." She didn't really worry too much about the rains. It was out of her power. They would come when they would come. No sooner. No later. But her sister had a point. If they were weak and dying on thirst there would be no war.
"It is my duty to keep people safe. I will do so. You do not need to worry." And she spoke that honestly. As far as she was concerned, her life was to serve, to protect. She would die doing just that if need be.
"Firekin are strong. Perhaps the Nergui will remember this and run before it begins. Our name has been too long forgotten. Whispers amongst the rogues are starting again. Perhaps they will think better of it." She sniffed lightly and then stood again, seeming eager to get back to the outpost. "I will continue to train. You will continue to heal. The Nergui cannot beat a unified force."
And they were unified. For the most part.

Sera's ear's flicked at her sister's comment about there being water in the Bonelands. "Although it would be good for everyone to go over there and drink some of the water but at the same time I hope the entire pride doesn't find out." The grimaced at the idea, it would be a horrible idea. "We don't want to make ourselves unwelcomed by a bunch of large lions trying to drink all of the water... and arguing over it at the same time." she could imagine it already, all of the large grumpy red lions. it would not be pretty she knew that for sure.
"You better be keeping everyone safe." She teased she was hoping that her sister really knew that she was joking. Shehad a feeling that her sister would no. "We're all depending on you guys." She commented simply before thinking about her sister's comment. "I have a feeling that they'll get the point and stay out of our way. If not then we'll make an example out of them for the other prides to see. Then no one will bother messing with us."

An ear lifted and then fell again, her face bland as she regarded her sister. Elda was not much one for humour. Never had been. She often met it with confusion, not quite understanding the joke. Such was this time, too, though she sensed that she had missed the point somehow. The large lioness shifted uncomfortably and then resettled her weight evenly on all four of her paws.
"Of course I will." She replied at last, exhaling noisily. "It has been asked of me by Legate Moto'Seide. I will not let her down. I swore an oath to the Firekin and to myself that I would lay my life on the line for my duty." She regarded her sister with dark, serious eyes. She meant it, too. She would willingly throw herself into the fray, willingly do what it took to ensure the safety of the pride. Her superiors had only to ask.
If they had asked her to be bait and sacrifice herself for the good of her people, she would have done it without so much as a blink of an eye.
And to here her sister say that they were depended upon, Elda could not help a small start of pride. Not just for herself, but for all the warriors of the Motoujamii.
"If they do not heed the rumours then we will show them our strength. They will die. We will succeed. Such is the way of Firekin." She took a step back, awkwardly bobbing her head. "If you ever find your claws, sister, you would be welcomed down at the outpost."

She wasn't sure how to feel when she noticed her sister's reaction. She felt pretty bad, she wasn't sure if the lioness could tell exactly what she meant. she paused as she thought about it. She didn't want to make another awkward joke and make things weird again. She decided just to let it go for now.
"If Seide thinks you can handle it then I don't see why you can't." she commented simply before flicking her hair out of her eyes and then looking at her sister. "Whatever you do, you better not get hurt enough to end up seeing me for any other reason than a nice conversation." Although she didn't exactly have an extremely close relationship with her sister she did care if any of her siblings were hurt and she did not want her sibling to get hurt enough where she had to come to the medical dens to get looked at.
She flicked her tail around behind her and then nodded. "We can take them on. There are so many of us." she then chuckled a little at her sister's reaction, she as amused by this that was for sure. "My nails are too caked in roots and other herbs." She laughed with a small smile. She was too into her medical adventures to want to fight anyone or anything.

"Legate Seide." Elda corrected, though not unkindly. She didn't smile but the shadows in her eyes lifted somewhat, portraying her lighter mood. No, she was not close to her family - not as one might expect - but they had a certain calming influence on her that others did not. "I will give her no reason to doubt. I will do my best as will all of us."
Would she get hurt? No. Not likely. She wouldn't give the Nergui a chance to touch her. She knew that much. She snorted loudly and tossed up her head. "You don't need to worry yourself, sister. I was trained by the best." And she was. "I will not be visiting your den for healing."
Her eyes flicked down to the ground, almost as if expecting roots to be growing out from her paws, curling around her claws as if having taken hold there. She saw nothing like that at all, her brow wrinkling very slightly. "You are strange, Sera." She replied, speaking it as if it were fact, her eyes lifting again. "We look alike but we are so different. I wonder how that can be."

"Sorry," she answered to her sister's correction. That was something that she wasn't used to. "By the time lions get here formalities aren't important. I don't use them often, unless it's the regents but that is because Ea has corrected me so many times. Other wise I tend to forget those." She nodded, it was very true. There was often times that she forgot who she was even fighting. There were many times that she didn't remember the only thing that she remembered was their name, what was wrong with them and how she was supposed to be able to take care of them.
"I won't worry, there are too many other things to worry about when the den is full." She stated simply before pausing and smiled at the lioness. "I'm sure you won't end up in here but I just wanted to warn you, maybe so that you'll be extra careful." She was hoping that for the batteles she wouldn't see anyone back here. It was a long shot for a hope, she knew that there was going to be plenty of lions that got hurt, Firekin were to hot headed and they had a tendency of getting hurt.
"This is true." She commented to her sister calling her strange. She couldn't deny being a little strange. She did not fit in with all of the firekin. In fact she stood out like a big sore red thumb. She didn't like to fight, but then again the pride did near it's healers. With out them there was the potential for generally large amounts of bad. Hurt fighters that couldn't do anything else once they were hurt. "I don't know sister, but we have different htings we have to take care of." She motioned her paw toward her sister. "Well, don't you, my sister, have some resting up to do?" She asked curiosuly a smile was still on her face.

"Formalities..." She echoed with a rumble. "I am used to them." She liked them, even. She liked knowing where she stood in the ranks, knowing she could take orders and follow them through. It was safe and secure and she felt happy knowing that she was playing her part, following the lead of the smarter lions in their ranking positions.
"Very well." She replied carefully. "I will be extra careful. As you say." Elda seemed a little unsure of those words, as if unsure how to truly respond to that. Even still it sort of felt nice to know that someone cared for her welfare. "I will leave you to your duty, then. And go rest up for mine." She took a step back, rumbling quietly for a moment, turning her ears back towards her.
She was not much one for words, particularly not ones of the heart. Perhaps a normal sister might have bade her a warm farewell, tell her that she loved her. Tell her to take care of herself. But Elda didn't understand the pleasantries and she simply dipped her head again. And, without another word, she sloped off across the sand, wondering whether she should have wished her sister luck, too. They might not see each other again until battle and if she saw her sister it was likely because she, herself, would be wounded.
A strange thought indeed.

She wasn't used to them. Formalities were not important where she worked. They didn't matter at all. She turned to her sister and then nodded at her before the nodding at her sister. "You better be extra careful." She repeated to her smiling as she did. She honestly did hope that her sister was going to be as careful as she could while she was fighting. She didn't want to find her sister under her care or anyone else's care. She didn't want that kind of trouble going on.
"I wish you the best" She said simply hoping that her sister was going to be okay with whatever she was going to be doing. She didn't like fighting but she was going to be here supporting her sister. She flicked her hair out of her eyes and then turned around and started to wander int the den where she was planning on resting for the day.
