Talaitha was having a horrible day it would seem. She started out searching for crafting materials, which was not unusual for her, and she had found a good few to put in the pouch she was carrying. She was doing so well on her search that she had kept walking, and while she kept an eye on her surroundings, the lioness had not though to keep an eye on the sky in case of bad weather. As a result of this shortsightedness, she had ended up too far from the pride to get back to her den and stuck in a rainstorm. So she sat under a rock while the rain pelted down. She could see clear sky not too far away while she was sitting under her rock and it made her wonder if the storm had come from that direction and would end quickly, or if it was just the edge of the storm moving that way. She really should have paid more attention. After a few hours the storm cleared and when the lioness came out, she found that where she had seen clear sky that whole time, never was hit with any rain at all. Had she been able to travel a quarter mile or more longer she would have never been stuck in the storm. She frowns at her luck. She had lost time for nothing really! The lioness kicked a rock and tried to divert her thoughts. She was out here to find things like bones and shiny stones, bits of pelts, the occasional scrap of cloth, or little pieces of metal. She was not going to find such things grumping about a little rain and she had to make up for the time lost. The lioness spotted a rather nice stone and started digging it out. It was so much harder to do this without a canine Thrall to help, but she couldn't risk bringing a Thrall outside the pride lands and having them try to run off. That would be a bother.

The white lion was congratulating himself on his "escape." Latitare, the annoying eagle that was supposed to spy on him and report on his every movement, was far too distracted with his young chicks to do his job properly. It happened to every parent, as Yareha himself knew well. Which was why he'd "gone out to hunt" as soon as the bird took himself off at the first peep of a chick waking. That was several hours and many miles ago. Yareha had rarely come out this far into the rogue lands before, but at least it would take some sort of miracle for anyone to find him. Not that he was running away or anything. He'd go back and even in a timely fashion. He simply needed some time alone and unobserved. Kind of like when the clutch was being laid and again when they were hatching. The last time that had happened, the lion had traveled so far that he suspected he'd made it to another pride. But the lioness he'd met there had been a lean and lissome creature and he smiled at the memory. That was the best part of being out here without a tattletale - if something happened between him and some random lioness, no one in the Mwezi'Johari had to know about it. Speaking of...there was a charming black and white specimen not too far away. The white lion shook out his mane and set about to be charming. "Finding buried treasure?" he asked as he got close enough to see she was determinedly digging in the ground.

Tal hear the male coming, but didn't really do more than spare him a glance before he got close. She wanted that rock and it was not coming out easily. The male's voice was pleasant enough, but she really did want to dig out that stone. "One might say that... I make things, and this stone I want is stuck." She kept digging at it and finally the thing came lose. She batted it out of it's little hole with one paw and looks quite proud of her work. She cleaned off her claws, though, before picking up the stone and putting it in her bag. Dirt in one's claws was not a nice experience.
Stone obtained, the lioness turned her attention to the white and gold male in front of her. "I do apologize about the lack of a proper greeting. When I get something on my mind, I tend to focus on it rather intensely. I do not often get to leave the pride to search for things like this... I have to make it count." She smiled at the male and kept her manners about her. She doubted he was a dirty pirate. She was SURE she had gone in the opposite direction from those scoundrels. "Was there something with which I could assist you?"
Had most of her pride heard how nice she was being they would have shaken their heads and wondered how she had ever earned her place as Freeborn, but while Tal appreciated the protection that the reavers and the like gave the pride, she did not believe in fighting herself unless she had no other choice. Then again she was not the best fighter and knew it. "You seem rather well kept to be a rogue traveling alone. So either you have others traveling with you to help you hunt, or you came from a pride. You also have very handsome markings, if I may say so."

Yareha blinked as the lioness kept digging. Was there some intrinsic value to the stone? Why else would she work so hard to get it out to the point of blunting her claws on dirt and rock? What could she possibly use it for that she couldn't use hundreds of other more easily obtained rocks for? It made no sense to him.
The male had to blink though, as she suddenly turned and gave him her full attention. She had a lot to say, now that she had finished with the stone and apparently had time for him. Most of it went over his head though he did hear the words "pride" and "leave". From what she was saying, it seemed that she'd had to get permission to come out and dig rocks. Why she had to ask permission and why she'd use it to dig rocks...well, he'd already decided that there was no possible way it would make sense to him.
Then she went on to ask him questions. Given the choice between trying to figure out a stranger lioness and braggi- er, talking about himself to a pretty female, well, the choice was clear.
"Yes, I'm from the Mwezi'Johari pride," he replied, answer the last of her questions. He bent a leg to her the way he wouldn't to that damned "Lord" Fuu. "My name is Yareha Afaer. Whom do I have the honor of addressing?"
No reason not to be polite. Besides, it amused him to show such regard to this stranger he'd likely never see again while he refused it to certain members of his own pride.

Tal was glad of the polite and rather proper response. She loved her pride but there was something to be said for a lion that could speak well and be polite in his manners. "It is a pleasure to meet you, Yareha Afaer of the Mwezi'Johari." She gave him a nod of the head and a sweet smile. Her voice had a sound to it that was both soft and yet carried. So she came off a bit meek and mild but no less sweet and charming. "I am Talaitha. I live in the Myrsky Syntynyt pride, though I was born to rogue lions."
An odd little thought crossed her mind to wonder if this male had ever had to fight in his life. He looked so well fed, so well groomed. He must have a very cushy life. She was still getting used to that kind of life herself, but was he born to it? She wondered how that must be and why he would venture out here if he was. Too many questions in her head that she would never ask. "Is there something with which I can assist a handsome lion as yourself, Yareha Afaer?"

Myrsky Syntynyt. It was the weirdest name he'd ever heard, for a pride or an individual. At least her given name was much nicer. It was odd of her to mention that her parents had been rogues. He wondered if there was some sort of stigma associated with those not born to a pride in the Myr...in her pride.
"Nice to meet you Talaitha," he replied, trying to bring his focus back to the conversation at hand. He had no intention of going to her pride, so it didn't really matter. And he trusted that she wouldn't...do anything...out here unless if her pride allowed it. Then again, he still had no intentions of ever seeing her again, regardless of what happened. So what did any of this matter?
"I'm not sure," the white lion replied, making a show of thinking over the lioness' question. "Perhaps I can be of assistance to the lovely lady?"

Tal giggled at the answer and the question posed to her. He looked much to prim and proper to help her dig up rocks or pick up dirty weather worn bones. "I am not sure you would wish to assist me with my work. It can be quite filthy, picking up bones and digging out shiny rocks to use for making items of value to a pride." She did not want to TELL the male he looked prissy or such and offend him, but he really did. "I am surprised you would call me lovely, but as I am the only lady about, you must be addressing me with that compliment."
She was starting to get an inkling of an idea that maybe the male could have something in mind that might be very pleasant for both of them. But if that was so, did she really want to risk cubs? Eh, who would care if she did? She was fairly new to her pride and no males were really interested in her bast on her appearance so far. She really was not in a rush to find a mate or such, but she did love cubs. Everything else that a male would look for in her, she could win even with cubs, so perhaps this was not such a bad risk to take.
She brought her mind forcefully back to the conversation. She did not even know if that was what the male had in mind. He could just be offering to be nice and throwing in a compliment while he was at it. Not ALL males had that in mind. Besides, it was only the barest indication to go on anyway. She should keep her mind off such things until it was more obvious if the male really had breeding on his mind.

Blue eyes blinked. "Why wouldn't I call you lovely?" he asked with genuine confusion. Did she think herself ugly? True, Talaitha wasn't a "classic" beauty as far as lionesses went, but Yareha still found her attractive. He often considered himself a bit of connoisseur when it came to females, always finding something to appreciate in even the most homely lionesses he encountered.
Still, when he called Talaitha "lovely," he meant it. And it showed in his tone.
"I'm not sure I understand your work," he went on smoothly. "You collect bits and pieces of things that most lions would call 'trash'...and you do what exactly, with them?" There was no disdain in Yareha's voice, just simple puzzlement. The whole concept of making things was somewhat foreign to the white lion.

"I am not that lovely. I am a fairly plain lioness, but my kindness and politeness are to my advantage... along with my knowledge." Mostly the part about knowing how to fight if she had to and using things like light in the eyes against someone and of course her crafting was to her advantage. Being able to make things made her very useful to have in a pride, even if many members of her pride would not openly admit it. Then again, she was sure that there were a lot of members that just wondered why she was not more actively seeking out a male to marry with her seemingly meek personality.
The lioness had to giggle a bit more at the confusion on the lion's face as he asked his question about her work. He really must not do much with his paws. Poor guy, or perhaps lucky guy, depending on how one looked at it. Either way she would at least be courteous enough to explain what it was she did with the things she collected. Her brown eyes looked down at the pouch she carried to put her things in and then up at the lion in front of her again. "I take these things and make jewelry, cloaks, weapons... armor... anything that my pride members need. Shiny stones can be cleaned up and wrapped with metal or strung to make pretty beads."
"Pelts can be use to make nice warm cloaks, with little bones put on them to hold them closed around one's neck. They may not look like much now, but when I am done with them, they become something that does not look at all like trash.... one just needs the patience and knowledge to do these things." She gave a small sigh. She did things that really should be appreciated more if one asked her. Ah, well, most lions did not realize the amount of work that went into making the things they wore or used. Then again, this lion might not wear or use anything depending.

"Nonsense! All lionesses are lovely. Perhaps not all are stunning on the outside, but oftentimes those that aren't are gorgeous on the inside," he replied heatedly. It didn't matter what she thought he saw, he could tell that there was a great deal more going on in her head than certain lionesses that he had met before. And if that wasn't beauty, what was?
He did try to understand her explanation. To him it sounded as if the lions of her pride liked to adorn themselves with trash, and she was the one who made trash seem like treasure. Well, to each their own. It seemed she knew what she was doing and didn't seem to be living too badly because of it. Who was he to argue?
"You seem quite accomplished," Yareha said at last. "Perhaps...you'd like to show me some more?" He left the sentence hanging, dripping with a double entendre. If she heard it, and if she took it as intended...
Well. That was between him and Talaitha. No one else ever needed to know.
