NATURAL LEADER

[L]OOK BEFORE LEAPING

Though the inner child in her would love nothing better than to leap straight into adventure, the rational side of Aegis’s mind realizes that rushing blindly forward into anything is a surefire way to get yourself killed, and as such has taken steps to keep said inner child in check. Deceptively slow to act, Aegis prefers to look at a problem from every approach possible, thinking things through numerous times before actually making a decision. Most people not familiar with her – and many who are - tend to be unaware of this facet of her personality however, mainly because of what happens after. Once the decision has been made, getting Aegis to change her mind is virtually impossible. As far as she is concerned, if you’ve gone to such lengths to make up your mind, then you should stick with it, otherwise you come off as an indecisive weakling and that’s the last thing a leader should be seen as. For someone like Aegis, who views strength and courage as something unmovable and unshakable, the very concept of surrendering or retreating is foreign to her, as she fails to grasp the fact that the one unchanging ironic rule of the world is that everything changes, even circumstances mulled over multiple times from multiple points of view. Even the most meticulously thought-out plan is fallible, and to futilely continue to engage in failure is nothing short of folly.

Which just goes to show that perhaps Aegis isn’t really as good a leader as she likes to thinks she is.

Born as the daughter to the village blacksmith, Aegis never had a lack of weapons to play around with in her youth, and years of experimenting around have led her to choose the almighty axe as her favorite. Possessing an affinity for both cleaving and crushing with its destructive blades, the axe came to symbolize power in Aegis’s eyes, a weapon fit for a leader. Thus, a year before she left on her journey, Aegis slaved over the forge every spare moment she had, constantly starting over when unsatisfied with her progress, until she managed to create the axe of her dreams, Papillon. With blades that evoke images of a spread butterfly’s wings at the end of a meter long handle,

Though blessed in the material department, Aegis is somewhat lacking in the magical department, much to her dismay, for how can one be a proper and well-balanced leader without excelling in every category? With the exception of a few Fire Magicites, Aegis

Years of helping out with the family business has given Aegis formidable upper-body strength, far more than what one would expect of a girl her age. It is this strength that allows her to wield her immensely heavy axe, though even she requires both hands to lift it up properly.

Speed, however, has never been Aegis’s strong suit, and with the added weight of her armor and axe, Aegis will not be winning races anytime soon. Good thing she’s so durable.

It is a poor leader that watches his comrades die in his stead whilst he cowers in the backlines like some half-baked child, and there is nothing that Aegis despises half as much as horrible leadership. Under the belief that a true leader leads her men into battle, a source of inspiration and morale, Aegis makes it a point to be the first to rush into battle,

Of course, simple bravado isn’t the only reason for her seemingly-rash actions; in truth, Aegis’s armor and durability make her the perfect vanguard, allowing her to take and shrug off attacks that might fell her inadequately-armored friends while whittling down enemy forces so that her comrades can deal with the straggling remnants. Because speed isn’t an issue when everyone is bunched up together, Aegis can swing to her heart’s content with her eyes closed and still manage to cleave something in half.

Aegis fares far worse when up against small groups of opponents, especially speedy ones, as her sluggish movements allow her foes to quickly maneuver around her to attack her weak spots and then dart away before she can retaliate. Those who specialize in long range are also a pain to deal with, since they can constantly keep up a barrage of attacks to whittle her down while nimbly moving away when she gets too close for comfort. If she can even get that close.

Though her axe’s weight requires her to use both hands to carry properly, Aegis prefers to drag it along the ground in battle with her main hand, while leaving one hand free to hold her Magicite.
