The silent standoff between Elleth and the two remaining dragons was broken as one crunched down on something it held between its jaws. Power seemed to flow around the Kiandri before settling into it's hide. It didn't take a genius to figure out what had just happened, and Elleth felt like what little good luck she'd had had suddenly deserted her. How was she supposed to fight two Kiandri's by herself, with one of them powered up.
A quick glance at the other skeletons showed fragments of the soul orbs that had been contained within the dragons. What sort of sorcery was this, that the dragons were fighting amongst themselves and using the power of their fallen brethren to boost their own strengths?
Elleth licked her lips with a dry tongue and quickly bent down to grab her prize. There was no way she was going to let that other dragon user her orb to power itself up. The fight was already unbalanced as it was. Two against one. Bah. So what if the dragons looked as if they were on their last legs, so was she! She didn't come with the ability to live in a desert like they did.
Hefting her blade Elleth waited, but she didn't have to wait long, apparently the super-dragon thought her beneath it as it turned a blast of lightning at it's fellow, catching it off guard. The dragon let out a cry of pain which turned into one of anger. Lightning danced across its hide as it thrashed, sending up sheets of sand in every direction, obscuring the animalist fight that sprang up shortly thereafter.
Elleth winced as she felt the charge in the air spike and ebb as she did her best to stay out of the path of the white-hot energy. She had no wish to die due to problem in machismo and social rankings of creatures who thought it better to kill each other than work together to kill her first.
But she hadn't needed to wait long. By the time the dust settled and showed the victor, all that remained was one orb that had shattered under the weight of a collapsed skeleton, and the other, which was half buried in the sand.
