Wind was a glorious thing. The very air itself seemed to dance through the trees as a Summer breeze whipped through the valley. It was the very thing that brought a contented smile to the young mother, and a look of mild annoyance from her son.
Khalidah held her sword to the shining sun, watching as the golden rays sparkled over it's blistering edge before dipping it down into the cooling water. Steam billowed up onto her face, but it didn't deter her. The blade was in serious need of repair, and as of late she hadn't had the opportunity. In fact, there hadn't been time for anything lately, other than mothering. Even if it was something she was extremely happy for, it did tend to put a damper on one's ambitions.
"Augh, it's still not straight." She whined, beating at the steel with a solid hammer.
"Mother, where do you want this?" Decker's small hands were wrapped around a bundle of wood, sweat pouring off his tanned skin. As much as he loved helping his mother with her work, chopping wood in the middle of the summer wasn't something he looked forward to.
"In the fire. I need to keep the iron hot so I can keep working." It wasn't like she was spending all of her time on her own sword. Oh no. She still had alot of work her master had laid out for her. Farm equipment that needed repaired, swords with chipped blades, etc. "You can go home, if you want," she smiled, reaching her arm out to scoop him into a hug. "I might be here for a while."
"It's okay." He nuzzled his face into her waist, standing on the tips of his hooves to do so. "I'll help you! That way, when we go on an adventure, I'll be able to do cool things too."

With a list in one hand, Aaron used his other to swipe at his brow. It wouldn't have been so bad if the market wasn't so packed. Since Khali and Decker had gone to the smithy, he'd decided last minute to do a bit of stocking up. Had he known it would be so busy, he might have reconsidered.
Glancing down at his daughter, who was distracted by a treat clutched in both hands, he couldn't help but to smile. She was a talkative little one.. He now understood what his friend, Tzeitel, was always yammering on about children for. They... changed your life. With little Savannah apparently content, he was free to do the shopping, trying to figure out what was where in the bustling streets. He still kept a close eye on the child though, not wanting her to get lost in this sea of bodies. Thankfully, they were almost done.
A strange sight trotted along in front of him. The little blond girl walked directly in front of her father, who had to nudge her from time to time to get her to keep moving. A big iced cream sat in her hands, while strawberry cream melted down the crispy cone and dribbled over her fingers. She licked hurriedly and continuously to contain the mess, and it took all of her focus to do so, face stern with concentration. The treat was serving its purpose, and she hardly noticed the claustraphobic crowd around her.

Watching her son slip the little leather gloves over his fingers, and take up an ax brought Khalidah full circle. In moments like these she was reminded of her mother. Bryanni was known for her vicious temper, but it was her work drive and passion for it that was visible most in the little colt. She watched as it placed it next to the others ready to ship out with a sense of never ending pride. Her hard working son, precious daughter, and Aaron...As all as it seemed to her at times, it just fit.
"Why don't you go find your father? If you do, we can go out to eat tonight."
Decker saluted and took off into the streets, his gloves hands waving down at his sides. The sun brought not only a sense of business, but life to the little village. Life that caused him to not only run into one, but a good dozen of taurs on his quest. The little centaur spent more time apologizing than actually moving, so with a heavy heart he decided to slow down to a gentle trot.
His eyes went left, right, up and down, with no sign of- "Omph!" He'd slammed into a set of legs, again and fallen on his rump in the middle of the street. Decker rubbed his head and looked up, ready to apologize once again when he saw a familiar face. "Sorry Dad! I didn't mean to, I promise, but if we go to the smithy, mom said we'll go out to eat!" And then- Savannah! What's that you're eating?"

Aaron checked off the last thing on his list, and smiled in relief. "Okay. Ready to head back home?" He looked down at Savannah, who was too focused on finishing her treat to listen. Shaking his head, he simply nudged her in the proper direction.
As he was turning, he felt someone hit his leg. Ah! He immediately smiled at his son, and listened intently. "Well, it looks like it was a good thing we came out today." Looking at Savannah's treat, he suddenly felt guilty. She couldn't be hungry after eating that big thing... He quickly patted Decker's head. "We'll get you one after dinner. 'kay?"
She was content to be guided along, her father's voice lost to the din of the crowd. However, she did look up at the sound of her brother's voice. Still licking her treat, she waved a hand of sticky fingers at him in greeting. When her treat was questioned, she looked up at Aaron with wide eyes and shook her head. "Decker can has some now! What's for dinner? I'm hungry!" She exclaimed, holding the drippy iced cream out to her brother with a big smile, even though she had already chewed off a bit of the cone, so not too much was left. She had heard the word 'dinner,' and that was an important word in her book.

Decker pushed his dad's hand away with a horrified look, ever hopeful that none of his friends had seen the childish interaction. Honestly! He wasn't a little colt anymore! "It's alright, Savannah's gon'na share." He slipped up beside her and held his hands out, taking the dripping mess into his gloved hands.
It didn't take him long to finish his treat, seeing as there wasn't much left to begin with, and was about to answer when the severity of Savannah's question hit him. "I don't know. Fish, maybe? OOOOH, I hope it's rabbit. Rabbit meat with big potatoes and carrots." His mouth was practically drooling at the thought. "

Ears perking, Aaron looked at his son in surprise. But- already?! The boy was already embarrassed by him! Head hanging slightly, he shifted his bags to make sure all was secure and called the children along. "We'll see what your mother says." He said, actually pouting a little.
Savannah smiled happily as Decker enjoyed his share of the treat. "Oh! Puh-tay-tuhs!" She cooed, licking her lips excitedly. "Daddy! Can we has puhtaytuhs?" She skipped on ahead, weaving through the multiple legs of the crowd as she hurried to the smithy and Khali to find out what dinner was to be.

Decker bounced back and forth on his little hooves, sending excited clopping sounds into the ears of the passing strangers. He couldn't wait! It had been too long since they had gone out, in his opinion. The little colt took off after his sister, still licking and suckling the remains of his treat from his fingers. "Lots of them, sis! Lots!"
Khalidah stepped outside of the smithy, wiping her wet hands on a dingy cloth. She'd stopped her current project long enough to freshen up while her son gathered the crew. The young mother barely had time to catch her breath when she heard the tell-tale sounds of her children, even if she couldn't yet see them for the crowd. "Whose hungry?" She called out with a laugh.
"What'cha cookin'?" Replied a pot-bellied centaur. He was hunched over a barrel in the street, smiling like he'd been offered gold.
"Notthing for you, Tibson." She snorted, stomping her hoof on the pavement. "Maybe if you went home once in a while that wife of yours would fix you something."

Aaron strolled along, working to keep the children in sight among the bustling adults surrounding him. When he heard Khali's voice, he instantly smiled. Of course she could hear those two coming.
Savannah sang about her 'puhtaytahs' and skipped in time with her words. Ears perking at her mother's call, she squealed happily and hurried faster. "Mama! Dacker an' me want puhtaytahs!! Daddy said we could have them!" She cried out happily, running into Khali's leg much like Decker had run into Aaron's moments ago.
