Now that living arrangements were taken care of, Candace had more important matters to worry about than 'where will I sleep tonight'. Unfinished business. She lounged in her new sitting room, something that didn't entirely match her personal taste in design just yet but it was clean, livable, unoccupied and easy to work with; Candace was already getting ideas of what to do with this place when she had time and funds for it. But Candace had to take care of what she'd started as an Intermediate. She had too many loose ends. Decorating and renovating her new rooms could wait.

She was looking through her notes, jotting down new ideas here and there until she got to a page with large red lettering. She'd scribbled 'BOYFRIEND IS PROTECTIVE AND CAUTIOUS'.

Damn. That was right. The boyfriend. Candace needed to lure Mitsu out on her own, to get her somewhere private. She couldn't capture the girl in her golem, that sounded too troublesome; how would Candace even get her out? She could go into Halloween but she would only survive for so long.

Damnit.

There is a place you can go without worrying about time, isn't there? You fought that horseman boil there. Candace blinked, sitting up straight. There was! But how the hell could she get her there...

A look was given to the phone number on one of the pages.

Maybe...she could pretend to be 'Derykion'. She'd go somewhere someone she knew was telling her to go, right? Candace would go to a friend's aid. How did Mitsu know him again? That Meela. The dog. Right. She had things to use, but how to use them. It was like a puzzle.

Candace stood, pacing around the room with a quiet hum. How to do this. She wanted to get Mitsu to the haunted house. Preferably alone. How could she do that? Hey, it's Derykion come meet me at the haunted house? By now the students surely knew it was where Hunters could be fou--

...Heh.

She suddenly grinned. The students had to know Hunters could be found in that house. They had to. They were teenagers, and teenagers gossiped. They took every little word they heard and spread it around, morphing it to fit their personal agendas. Candace picked up the notebook, flipping through the pages again. She could use that to her advantage.

She'd need Death hunters. Death hunters she could trust. Who..? Well, there was Gale...and..Gale. Oh, and Deryk! But she didn't want to throw Deryk in there when he had just gotten hurt and lost a finger. Emotions could get in the way if they came across the plague doctor. Gale and...well, she liked Madison well enough. And Madison also seemed like a gossip lover...

No harm in seeing if they wanted to help her.

Hey, Maddie! You busy? <33 I think you can help me with something. Come to room 214?

Madison wasn't busy - in fact, she was bored. Getting a text was a welcome interruption, and getting a text that promised possible excitement was even better. She quickly tapped out an affirmative reply and sat up from where she'd been reclining on her bed, trying to puzzle through a book on runic theory. Yeesh, she really wasn't suited to Life Division at all, was she...

What? Kouki asked, eagerly. Evidently he wasn't too thrilled by runic theory either.

"Candace needs something. Could be good," she said with a grin. She slipped on her shoes, then padded down the hall until... wait. She pulled out the phone to check. 214...? She changed course, moving away from Candace's old room and climbing the stairs instead. Madison knocked on the indicated door, grinning. Looked like somebody else had climbed the promotion ladder.

Candace was quick to answer the door when she heard someone knocking, wearing a simple loose-fitting tunic-style top and jeans with no sign of her hunter coat just yet. She saw no reason to just sit around wearing it in her own room...though she did occasionally put it on to admire herself in it in the mirror. She wouldn't admit that to anyone though, not even Harrison. Nope. Not a soul. It was embarrassing enough to know she did it.

"Hey~! Come on in! Sorry if it's a bit of a mess, I'm still moving in." Candace stepped aside to let Madison in, closing the door behind her once the Death trainee was inside. She wasn't surprised that Madison arrived first with Gale living in a house in the town now. It would take him longer to get here if he wasn't busy. "Want something to drink while I still have a kitchen?" She offered while already on her way to the kitchen. Might as well use it while she had it even if she didn't need it..or want it.

She had plans for this kitchen.

"Sorry if I interrupted anything. It's kind of short notice, yeah..but there's something I've been working on for awhile now. I need a bit of help at this point.."

"You did it!" Madison said, grinning and flashing Candace a thumbs-up; if they'd been better friends, she would've hugged her, but she wasn't entirely sure where they stood on that sort of thing. "And your prize is... a bigger room? A kitchen? Caelius not yelling at you as much?" She followed Candace, looking around as if scrutinizing the surroundings. She'd been in Clarice's rooms, obviously, but Clarice was way high up, more than just a Hunter. So.

"Oh, no, nothing important. Boring s**t. Runic magic and tech and things... soooo not my bag, and yet I end up going through the two divisions that use it the most. Go figure," she sighed, then grinned again. "So yeah, please interrupt me. More like saving me at this point. What's up?"

He got the text just as he was about to walk out the door, a peanut butter and jelly sandwich held temporarily in his mouth as he fumbled around for the keys to his front door. The phone he had stuffed into his pocket earlier vibrated noisily, and Gale made a muffled sound that sounded something like "dammit," accidentally dropping the hunter coat he had draped over one arm.

<< Smooth. >>

Shut it.

Still munching on the sandwich, Gale bent down, retrieved the coat, and pulled his phone from his pocket, flipping it open. He scanned the name - Candace Pennington - that flashed across the top of the screen, and then moved down to read the rest of the message.

Room 214? That must mean...

A smile smile tugged at the corners of his lips before disappearing back into the resident calm expression that was almost always there, Gale chewing idly on his lunch. He shrugged the coat over his shoulders, found his keys jangling in one of the pockets, and reached for his gloves, slipping them over his hands before he slid the silver banded ring over the fabric of his left index finger.

After that he set off towards the dorms, making his way back across the grounds to the dormitory building he had already moved out of. Taking the stairs to the second level, he counted down the doors until he reached the one that said "214," lifting his hand to knock.

"Candace?"

At Madison's congratulations she grinned, suddenly feeling giddy again when reminded she did it. "Thanks! It was difficult but I was so done with being a trainee. Pretty much, yeah. Bigger room, the kitchen's only temporary. I've got plans for it. Umm, higher pay! Higher clearance...more leave days. I'm expected to do more..but I don't think Caelius will ever not yell at me." But she earned it. She did it. She didn't depend on anyone for it, she earned it on her own, she worked for it. She had no relationship of any kind with the group she'd brought back to the...camp..

...None..none at all.

Candace seemed to space out a moment, staring at her reflection in the glasses of water she'd just filled. She didn't know Eli or Draven, but someone did. She pursed her lips and shook away the memory of Milly's face whens he realized Eli hadn't returned with Candace, guilt stabbing her in the chest almost as painfully as a real knife probably felt.

Don't linger on it. Move on.

She turned again to return to the living room when Madison's voice reached her ears again, a small smile on her face. The room they were in still held the signs of having been owned by someone else until before Candace moved in. The colors were muted, pastels that suggested the previous owner used this place for a place to escape the insanity outside these walls, and definitely not a style that matched the woman who now occupied this place. But it was workable. She could do something with it. The colors could be painted over, the furniture replaced. But there was a long sofa, and a comfortable arm chair set near each other around a nice coffee table. Two bookcases, one of which had some of Candace's personal belongings already sitting on its shelves; it wasn't much just yet, a tiny glass unicorn, a few books, a framed picture of H and Jerry from the Christmas Gala, and other small knick knacks she'd brought from home. Nothing of tremendous importance just yet, simply sentimental value at best. Her Hunter coat was hanging on a nice coat-rack along with her scarf. The scarf was purple now, not black as it had been while she was a trainee. The coat had a ruffled back, the different layers decorated with a gold Mist symbol with a purple background that matched her new scarf.

There was a door toward the back of the room that led to her bedroom and the bathroom as well. The bedroom door was kept closed for now. Out here was nice and neat..the bedroom was a mess. The closet didn't have enough room for all her clothes and shoes.

Yet.

Candace offered Madison one of the glasses, smiling. "Runic tech? That could be neat if you practice at it. I've always enjoyed studying though so..heh." She shrugged, sipping at her own water. "To be fair you were put in Life...did you choose to be in Death?" Before hadn't been by choice but had Madison? She hadn't known of the girl's transfer until she saw her coat. "I'd be happy to interrupt you anytime, pretty lady~." Candace teased, smirking to herself and shaking her head. There came another knock at the door shortly after that, before she could answer Madison's question, and she perked up again. There was Gale's voice.

She set the glass down on the coffee table and hurried to the door, opening it with a wide smile. "Hey, Chipmunk~!" She greeted him with a hug, guiding the boy into the room. The door was closed behind him as well.

"How are you, Gale? Sorry I couldn't make it to your little housewarming party I was kinda...uh..busy." She gestured to the coat hanging from her coat rack. "..You smell like peanut butter." Weird.

Shrugging, Candace moved on, looking more excited with both of the Deaths here now. "Okay so...yeah. Sorry if this is really sudden but I need your help...see..there's this girl in Halloween that I want to bring in for weapon candidacy but...even if she's entirely willing to go the people around her will make that hard." She frowned now. "Getting her is kind of personal for me whether she's willing to come along or not, so I need help luring her to the haunted house..alone. You two are Death, your division handles this kind of thing, and I can trust you both..so...do you want to help me spread some high school gossip~?"

Madison spotted the coat. "Oh my god, that is so cute - is it tailored? That's one thing about this place, they give you a nice fit if you're willing to wait around for it," she gushed.

At the mention of Death, though, she made a face. "Yeah, well, apparently my clever plan was to go talk to Caelius about a, uh, clever plan that I had. Not really needed now, but he pulled me into Death after. I'm still not sure if that was supposed to be a reward or a punishment, but..." She shrugged. "It works out ok, I guess..."

When Gale arrived, she gave him a shy smile, noting that he too had a different coat. Wait, so he was a full Hunter now too? She had some catching up to do, apparently... but she wasn't going to rush it. She wasn't ready yet, and she knew it.

... But maybe this mission would help make her a little more ready. She grinned broadly as Candace finished her explanation. "Dude, I have, like, a Ph.D in high school gossip. And I have a few connections... well, okay, one connection. But it might be useful. Tell me more." The smile took on a wicked edge.

There were only two females on the island that Gale allowed to hug him in public, Candace being one of them. Which was why, when she opened the door and wrapped her arms around him, he did not squirm or protest, and instead lifted his hand, patting her back in return.

"It's fine," he said, once she had stepped back, and showed him into the room. "I can see that you were a little busy - and for good reason. Congratulations, by the way," he added, genuinely pleased for her as he gave Madison a small nod in greeting, moving to sit on one of the couches, idly tugging on one of his gloves. "And I smell like peanut butter because you caught me in the middle of lunch."

The room did not feel entirely Candace-like yet, but there was a rather nice little air about it all the same, and Gale made himself comfortable on the couch, leaning back and giving his full attention to the older girl.

"You found one?" he said, once she had finished, his brows drawing together. "That's interesting..."

Already his brain was starting to work, sorting the information Candace had given him into the proper places of his thoughts. Rubbing his hair absently, Gale lifted his gaze, casting a glance at Maddie briefly before answering.

"Of course I'm in."

"Yes! It fits perfectly~." Candace even went to the rack to pluck the coat off its hook, putting it on and buttoning up the front. A few adjustments were made before she turned to face Madison. The coat fit perfectly. She pulled her hair from under the collar and did a little turn for Madison, grinning as Gale congratulated her as well. "Thank you, Gale~. Ohhh I'm so proud of you!" She suddenly pulled him into another tight hug. "I told you you could do it!" She released him again and finally took off her coat to hang it up again.

A plan that Madison had asked? Candace raised a brow, clearly interested by that little tidbit. How could a plan not be needed? Obviously it was good if Caelius had transferred her without her requesting it. Curious.

They both agreed. She released a breath she didn't realize she'd been holding. Thank god! "Oh good! I'm so glad. Ohh? A connection? You'll have to tell me about that." She clapped her hands together, grinning excitedly. They were on board! Good, good! She was going to lead this! She could count on them. She was so happy.

"Okay, so! Her name is Mitsu, unfortunately I don't have a picture of her but I can describe her as well as point her out to you two when we get there. We'll be going in golems to get into Amityville Academy in Halloween. What I need from you two is to spread some rumors around and make sure they get to her. Tell her directly if you must. The main goal is to get her to the Haunted House, preferably alone." This was when Candace sighed. "See, the main problem is that she has a boyfriend. A very protective, very suspicious boyfriend. He's smart. His name is Shun...he..well..he killed Stacey. He practically told me." She frowned. "So he's nothing to roll your eyes at...any questions so far before I continue~?"

And then another hug.

"You're - oof - welcome," said Gale, his voice slightly muffled due to the fact that he had his face pressed against Candace, her arms wrapped around him. He wiggled a little, mildly exasperated, and was quite grateful when she finally let him go, his face tinged a pale pink. "And thank you," he added, straightening his own coat as Candace took hers back off.

Settling back down on the couch, Gale idly twisted the ring on his left index finger, nodding every few minutes as the plan was laid out. He frowned a little, brows drawing together, Jinhai making a soft sound in his head that was almost like a purr.

"He killed Stacey."

All the thoughts in Gale's mind screeched to an abrupt halt. He lifted his head slowly, eyes fixing with Candace's, the memory of a creature, of a scene, flickering through his thoughts.

"...I know him," he said quietly. "I've seen him, I heard him...tell you that he was the one who had killed Stacey. I was trying to find you, and...I was there when he was gloating about it."

He had walked away after that, not wanting to hear the rest, already understanding what it was that he needed to do. Gale pressed his lips together, a flash of anger settling in the pit of his stomach that he pushed away, suppressed until later.

"...no questions," he said finally. "Other than when do we start?"

Madison's eyes narrowed at the mention of killing Stacey; she still had the pendant the bird-freak had given her in her pocket. Stacey's pendant. "Oh, god, okay. I met a little freak in the Haunted House - he apologized. Gave me this." She pulled the pendant out and held it out so Candace and Gale could see what it was. "Didn't even try to fight me. Caelius read us the riot act about bringing back some willing candidates, so I played nicey-nice... he was kind of sweet, for a freak. Might be good for later."

She sighed and tucked the pendant away again. "He's timid, though. If I get info from him and then the people I got info about get owned by Hunters, I'm going to lose what little trust I got out of him." As she spoke, she was thinking hard, trying to remember exactly what Israfel had said about this 'Shun'. "Yes... yes. This 'Shun' guy definitely killed Stacey, I can confirm that one... it was part of a plot that multiple of the little freaks were in on, according to my pretty little bird. Stacey took out one of the b*****d's eyes, though, so he's damaged goods." She grinned, sharply. "And it took a lot of them to take Stacey down. They aren't as strong as they might think they are. Maybe overconfident..."
PostPosted: Thu Jun 28, 2012 6:45 pm

Candace looked surprised by Gale informing her he already knew, that he had also heard Shun tell her. She had no idea Gale had been that close to her at the time. She'd completely missed his approach. Even Madison had information! Damn was she glad she'd picked them now; she'd made the right choices. "He...apologized?" She raised a brow, holding her hand out for the pendant. "Is it..is it real?" She asked, eyes wide and locked on the pendant. A denizen of Halloween who hadn't tried to fight Madison, who apologized for killing a Hunter. That...that could possibly be useful one day. There were creatures on that side who sympathized? That definitely sounded like weapon candidate material.

Later. Candace had priorities.

"Yeah, Shun is her 'boilfriend'," Candace even said this with airquotes made by her fingers. "I don't want Shun, I want the girl. Shun's...too abrasive. There's no way to get him, but Mitsu seems very trusting and gullible. While I personally held no feelings toward Stacey...think of it as Shun took one of ours..you're going to help me take his precious little ghoul~. You two can do whatever you like on the side, in case you both want to find your own candidates, just as long as you get her to come to me in the Haunted House. Do whatever methods you see fit~. I'll get us some cell pho--"

Skellphones. Candace blinked.

"Skellphones. I'll get us some skellphones to communicate with. We can start as soon as you two are able. Hopefully a week in golems is enough time." She put her hands on her hips, grinning. "I owe you two big time for this."

"That sounds more than fair," Madison said, her smile bright and a little bit predatory. "No touching bird-boy - Israfel, that's his name. He's mine. And yeah, it's real, far as I can tell..." She shook her head, the smile fading a bit. "Yeah. Definitely fair. We won't even kill her! We'll just make her useful. She's getting a much better deal..."

She reached down and ran one thumb over the beads that made up Kouki's unsummoned form. "I'm ready whenever you are. Seriously, get me off of this damn island!" Kouki's hiss of agreement curled around her thoughts.

He'd seen the pendant before, of course. In fact, Gale had been one of the ones to use them on the creature named Barth while they had been stuck in the Haunted House.

It had controlled him.

"That..." said Gale, with a scrutinizing look at the small object in Madison's fingers. "We had one like that, I think...back when we were first exploring that House. We put it around the neck of one of the creatures and it compelled him to follow our instructions. I'm not sure if that's the same one, but it certainly looks similar."

He folded his hands together in his lap, looking irritable, but it was mostly due to the new information that surrounded Stacey's abrupt disappearance. It was not as if he had even known the man all that well, but the fact remained that he had been one of them anyway - and a Death Hunter.

Gale didn't want to think about it anymore.

"Ready when you are."

Candace nodded. "I'm not much of a bird person anyway. He's all yours." She grinned when Madison said they'd make Mitsu useful. Yes, she had ideas for that.

When Gale spoke up Candace turned to him with a look of surprise. She didn't recall that part of the mission, she'd missed the capture of the avarice demon, but it certainly sounded interesting. Oh..but Gale looked annoyed. That wouldn't do. Pouting, Candace grabbed her coat to put it on again before walking over to affectionately ruffle Gale's hair. "Grumpy guuuuus~. Okay. Then since we're all settled let's just go now then. The sooner the better, yeah? Come on~." She lead the way out of her room, locking the door behind her and accompanying the other two to the pod room.

Please get a female golem.
