Malodore felt exhausted on every level - mental, emotional, physical, as if the first two had sunk their teeth into it and dragged it downwards. But being alone in its room gave it too much time to think. Too much time to mourn... to mourn something it thought it was done mourning. (As if it ever would have been done. Foolish logic, or rather lack thereof.) The tomes Nurse Cricket had given it provided it with some solace, some distraction, though her words about core degeneration continued to plague it. At last, the plague doctor slammed the book it had been reading closed with more force than was needed, immediately regretting the impulse as some pages folded and crumpled. It needed to... not be alone. Fortunately, Nurse Cricket had also provided an excuse for that - the FEAR-tracing exercise she had requested that it do. It would have to be a friend. Acting on that same impulse, Malodore sent out a text... To Sammy Nurse Cricket has assigned me a task for my apprenticeship - nothing invasive or painful. Would you care to assist me, my friend? I could use some company, right now...

The phone chirped, a series of bird like tones, only two people had such a tone, one was a Siren and the other a bird like doctor. For the moment she put aside her own worries. The boots that might get her flak at prom, the dress she was still trying to get over the idea of wearing. Such pitiful tiny things compared to what the doctor was feeling at that moment.
The first part hardly mattered, it was the end that was important. A knife seemed to wedge its way somewhere in her side as guilt filled her thoughts. She hadn't spoken to the doctor in a while, nor Shehk, even Jericho. The people who would be suffering most with Prom coming up and she was still worrying about a dress.
To 'Doc' You don't have to ask twice. Be there in a few. The dress was placed aside, Scareons where slapped on the nose and scolded for going near and she was stumbling out the door pausing only a moment at an empty room before rushing by to get to the dorms. Sometimes it was best to ignore that empty space and move on as quickly as she could.
True to her word the ghoul arrived knocking gently at the doctors door, the strange sound of bone against would heralding her presence, "Is it open Doc?"

"It is," came the reply from within; as it spoke, Malodore mentally tried to push away all the twisted, confused feelings inside of itself. Riley had taught it how to shield itself from others; if only it could have shielded itself from itself...
But Sammy was here, and would provide distraction enough. Ombra barreled into the door and fell over, only for Luce to sit calmly on the excitable pup as she usually did.

The door slid open, revealing the same room she had found the doctor in from the start not long ago. Then the room had been empty save a crumpled Plauge Doctor, wrought in pain and sorrow. Now it was different, a wall of notes, cots with familiar purple sheets. A small table, and still one lone Malodore and now two minis.
Stooping low she offered both pups behind the ears, "Hello you two, yes I smell like Scareon's hush shh shh." She slipped a few treats from a coat pocket passing them along before moving towards the doctor, very carefully she wrapped her arms around it, "I'm sorry I haven't been around lately, I see you've been busy."

"Yes.. I have formally begun my apprenticeship under Nurse Cricket's tutelage," it said, cracking open its beak in a faint smile. "It is good to see you, my friend... you have been well, I hope?"
It put the books to one side and stood, pulling the only chair into the center of the room. "Please, take a seat, and I can tell you about this exerciser I have been assigned? ... And perhaps a few other things, as well." It really... it really didn't want to explain again, but. This was Sammy. Some things were owed, and this was definitely one of them. She had a right to know, and it had to be the one to tell her.

"That's wonderful, you of all people deserve that." She smiled softly, purple eyes dim and flickering as she smiled to the doctor. "Is Shehk also studying under her? You two have always been the best ones at patching my shambling body up."
Eventually they parted from the brief hug as it moved a chair to the center of the room. "I've been... okay. I have a few things I need to do relating to what we found at Red's... I need to speak to Cricket actually, but that's for another time."
Moving to the chair she took a seat, one eyebrow quirked slightly as she looked to the doctor, "What ever you want to talk about Doc. I'm here." She let her eyes flicker to the collar of her usual jacket, a row of pins including it's own rested there. "So lets go. What terrible task has o' might Cricket set forth?"

"It is a simple exercise... for me to trace the flow of your FEAR through your body. It will not hurt, I assure you, nor will it be an intrusive exercise. It is simply to accustom me to following how FEAR integrates and works with the body..."
Its voice trailed off, and it bowed its head. "But first, there is something I must tell you. I... it is something of both joy and sorrow." Its body visibly tensed, its feathers bristling and rasping as if in anticipation of pain.
It took a deep breath, then let its words flow out on the exhale. "Riley... she is alive. The Bogeymen - their scientists brought her back. But she has forgotten... much."
Another breath. "She has forgotten me." Its throat closed with unshed tears again, but it had said all it needed to.

Resting in the chair Sammy's eyes seemed to dim slowly, purple fires growing smaller and smaller till they where almost nothing more then a tiny lighters worth of flame flickering in her hollow sockets. "Doesn't seem bad, should be interesting considering uhhh my wounds..."
At first she couldn't see the emotions it's body displayed, her eyes where dimmed narrowing the world she was at rest waiting for the doctors tests, not the news it would bring.
Riley... she is alive. The Bogeymen.
The eyes flared to life and her head snapped to the side, FEAR rolled from her sockets burning with either rage or shock it couldn't be said but they where burning.
"How long."
The question was spoken calmly, quietly, but behind it seemed to weigh a worlds worth of questions. How, when, who specifically, what of Jericho, and even Red? She didn't press more then that one question, though she had many, it would be best to ask only one. Still that didn't stop her wondering, Riley didn't remember? Her death? Red? How far did it go and more importantly, why?

"How long... what? Has she been alive? I don't know." Malodore shook its head, its words drained of emotion. "But she did die, and for all their cruelty in the heat of the moment... the Bogeymen, they saved her. They brought her back. They allowed me to see her. The scientist in charge was actually very kind..."

Well it was a brief response but it covered her question. No one at the moment knew how long Riley had been back, let alone how most likely.
"It still.... I believe you Mal." She paused leaning back in the chair eyes still burning as she debated what this could all mean, for all of them.
"She forgot though. All of it..." There would be no answers to what insanity had done to Riley at this point, no explanation as to how they could fix it, only the word that the Bogeymen brought her back.
"I want to believe this is good, that it's good she's back but... can we really trust the Bogeymen? What if they have other... reasons, for bringing Riley back, and why just Riley and not try and save Red who was their ally?"
She quickly reached towards Malodore, sadness and sympathy painted across her face as her eyes seemed to dim slightly, "I don't mean to say this is a bad thing... but I just can't believe they would save one student for no reason other then to be 'nice' doc...."

"I don't trust them," Malodore said, sharply; then it slumped, sinking to sit down on the floor in front of Sammy's chair. "Mi dispiace... but they have Riley, and they need to keep her, for now. She is fragile, and I do not have the knowledge or tools to care for her. Her physical recovery is dependent on them..." Obvious tension rippled through it for a moment.
Then it shook its head and began to speak again, voice draining back into that emotionless tone. "Not... not absolutely everything. She clearly remembered bits of her past. When I arrived, she seemed scattered, but the more I spoke with her, the more she seemed to remember. I let her look at my memories... but seeing a thing from a distance and experiencing it are two different things. I... I should have expected it, really. Nurse Cricket warned me... just as how made-Undead suffer memory loss. Foolish to think this would be any different." It made a sharp, self-depreciating gesture with one hand.
Then, as Sammy spoke of motivations, it hunched forward. "She was a convenient subject, I am sure. It seems Insanity has done similar things to others, elsewhere in Halloween - no doubt they wish to halt the progression as much as I do. Had I been in their position, presented with a whole specimen, I would have done the same."

The words cut the air like knife before it crumpled to the ground. "We shouldn't, not till we know more." She added before moving to the floor to sit beside Malodore. "I never thought we would use a word like 'fragile' to describe Riley of all people, but if what your saying is that bad then we really don't have a way to help right now." Even as it grew tense Sammy moved to press a hand gently on it's shoulder.
"How far back is the loss? The Haunted house? Our first field trip to Christmas? We need to find the begining of where she forgets and work from there, or even work backwards." From the day she died the thought passed through her head, but she didn't say it aloud. It might not bode well with the Doctor.
"It is different Mal, look at me against you, I was a corpse ripped out the dirt and filled with FEAR, you where born and raised, and Riley was something entirely different. Their might be a way to bring the memories back for Riley that Undead's don't have access too."
Gently the boned fingers would strok it's shoulders trying to calm the doctor as it hunched down, "She is, she could be the key to saving our other friends. I want to believe it will help Jericho, I can't stand the idea of Shehk loosing him, I don't want to see her hurt like you where, like any of us where losing Riley."
"Trust them, but only at arms length Doc. That's the best we can do..." Standing up she reached down offering to help it off the floor, "Now, I believe you had a test to run, we can talk while the testing is in process yes?"

"I don't know - I saw her only for a short time, and I was not... not at my best," Malodore admitted, wings shifting to press against its sides. "At least she can see our memories, if we offer them to her..."
It twitched a bit at Sammy's touch, but after a moment it sighed again, nearly imperceptibly, and some of the tension left it. "Si, there is that hope. Really, it is only my personal feelings that hold me back from acknowledging the achievement..." And had it not always been taught that personal feelings had no place in medicine? Perhaps, in this, the Elders had been right after all...
It took her offered hand and got to its feet. Yes, it had work to do. Now the deed was done, the bandage torn off and wound revealed; it could now be covered again, pushed away and wrapped in gauze and cotton until no trace of its folly remained. "Of course... I will need to trace the flow of your FEAR, sensing with my own FEAR. It will require touch, though, ah... nothing inappropriate, naturally." Yes, it could do this. Focus on the task at hand. This was exactly what it needed.

"I wouldn't expect you to be, seeing her again... alive, that would be a lot for anyone especially yourself." Her voice was soft, trying her best to be comforting in the moment.
"It is a medical marvel." She added feeling it shift beneath her hand on its shoulder. "You're handling this all much better then the first time I found you here. It might hurt still but you can do this. She's back, you can work with that." She paused for a moment as she tugged Malodore up before taking her seat again. "We can all work with that."
Settled into the chair she relaxed a bit shrugging her shoulders at the doctors requests. "That doesn't bother me in the least Mal, it's better then being punched, kicked, and impaled."
"Ready when you are doc."

Malodore just nodded, then took a deep breath, for the calming effect. It folded its wings neatly, then reached out one hand towards Sammy, not focusing its FEAR but rather focusing its awareness of FEAR.
"I have to trace your FEAR from its source, and get an idea of how it flows through your body," it murmured, stopping its movement before actually touching her, one finger hovering over her heart. "A rather dull exercise, from your perspective... you likely won't feel anything other than my own touch. May I begin?"
