Roll an Eleven: Canyon Field: The canyon walls towers high towards the ceiling while the ground sinks downwards several levels, making the top and bottom of the field very difficult to see without special equipment. The cliff faces are very steep with little ridge support for grabbing and climbing; on top of that, the rock faces are very damp which makes grabbing and holding on very difficult. A few skinny trees and roots jut out from the cliff and allow smaller, nimbler pokemon to grab and swing around. At the very bottom of the canyon’s long drop is a deep pool of water. Keeping up is difficult for trainers on this particular battlefield, so stadium officials have set up a special view screen on each of the trainer platforms. A mini camera will follow your pokemon around while it battles (of course, it’s programmed to back off when a pokemon does an attack) and the view screen will enable trainers to issue commands to their companions via microphone. This field gives a 25 HP attack boost to FLYING and ROCK type attacks.

Shina entered the stadium and sighed. Why did she keep getting this field when she was battling with Rasha? Oh well, it wasn't as bad as the water field would be. She took her place in the trainer box and tossed Rasha's pokeball down to one of the wider ledges below.

Lyle jogged into the stadium, eager to begin the battle. But the battlefield was so strange he just stopped and started for a while. Luckily Spinel was small and used to clinging to rocks, but it would be such a weird place to battle in. He sent Spinel into the canyon, watching on the screen as his pokemon bounded down to near the Ponyta he'd be fighting.

As Spinel hopped closer, Lyle considered his first move. When the Sableye paused on a narrow ledge near the Ponyta, the trainer instructed, "Spinel, start with Confuse Ray!"
His pokemon grinned widely and hopped to another perch where the Ponyta would be sure to see him. Then his eyes began to flash a dizzying array of colors.

Rasha hadn't seen this pokemon before. He was sparkly...shiny...
Oh drat, Shina thought. Rasha got confused. "Hey girl, shake it off! Try returning the favor with Swagger!"

Spinel was taken aback when the horse started swaggering. What did it mean by that?
Lyle noticed Spinel start to sway and slip, and guessed his pokemon was confused, too. Better stick with a move that had a better chance of hitting. "Spinel, Faint Attack!"
His pokemon faded into shadow as he started to head for his opponent.

(Doing confusion roll here since Faint Attack always hits.)

"Flamethrower!" Shina called.
Rasha's flames flared, then streaked out towards the Sableye.

Spinel yelped at the sudden rush of flames blasted him. He clung to the rock, smoking slightly.
"Another Faint Attack!" Lyle called.
His pokemon detached itself from the rock and faded to shadow again as it headed for the Ponyta.

Rasha snorted. She was a herd animal. She didn't like things sneaking up on her. As Spinel's attack connected, she swatted at him like a biting fly with her fiery tail.

As Spinel faded into view again, Lyle saw that his pokemon seemed steady again. "Great! Now, Rock Tomb!" he commanded.
His pokemon started ripping chunks of rock out of the canon walls and throwing them at the Ponyta, trying to pin her in place on her ledge.

After the first few stinging hits to her flanks, Rasha did something Shina hadn't realized she could do. She...Bounced. Like her legs were made of springs. Shina blinked. She'd had no idea Rasha could get so much height from a standing jump. And what goes up...
