The Second Great War has gripped the world, but in Gotham, Crime has gripped the city. The Mob families are keeping alcohol flowing and guns smuggling. Banks are robbed as often as every other day, and no one goes home unscathed.

Heroes are among among the gloomy and the war torn citizens, they hunted by the Mafia, the police, and the story hungry reporters. They walk among us, but even if they're nameless and faceless, they bring a spark of light in a dark time for the world.

Robert had been called into Gotham all the way from Star City from one of his military contacts. Gotham was sort of a neutral territory, but the general whom he dealt with preferred meeting in Gotham because the crime that was already there was a perfect cover for what they were doing. It wasn't illegal, the three-star just didn't trust many people in Washington, and Robert didn't blame him. There were lots of snakes and backstabbers out on the hill, so they would frequent the Iceberg Lounge when they were in Gotham. Mr. Cobblepot didn't mind what they did as long as they kept their business classy and slipped him a little grease under the table, neither of the men minded. They got their own private room for the fee they paid, and a guarantee of no bugs so they could conduct their business in private.

"So, what can I do for you, general?"

"Of course, we'll need more missiles, more rifles, more tanks. But we also hear that you've been working on a line of powered suits."

Robert's eyes widened when the general mentioned his suits, there were less than five people who were supposed to know about that, which made it easy to narrow down the list. "That's right, we are working on a line of powered suits. But it's still in the prototype stages, we're having some difficulty getting the power stabilizers to function properly. Perhaps if we were able to get some more of the big bucks we could hurry that along."

General Stanton was expecting a similar reaction. He could tell that Robert didn't like the boys in Washington knowing about some of his projects, but that couldn't be helped, this was war time, and it was all necessary if they were to win the war. "How much are we talking, here?"

"We'll need another three million dollars for parts and damage to suits and property. I suppose the mole is on your payroll, and should anything happen to him," he emphasized this to show he knew precisely who it was, "that the whistle gets blown on everything down at Queen Industries."

Stanton nodded solemnly, not really needing to say anything else about the matter. "How about we eat, then? I don't just come here for the business, you know."

"Hmph." Robert pulled the little chord that would summon the waitress and waited. After she got there, the two men ordered, ate, then got out hastily. They may have liked it there, but it wasn't quite the place they wanted to be seen as regulars at.

The clocktower was too obvious. He and Grayson agreed on that much. Looking down the modified Weaver teliscope sight of his M10903 Springfeild sniper rifle he could see no signs of life or motion. Too damn quiet. Other than the fact that he swore he could hear Grayson's hands moveing as the man spoke to him in sign language code.
Roy glanced to the side and with one hand signed back. Telling Grayson to keep an eye on things and stop worreying about the shipment of silverwear he was highjacking from a truck somewhere off base. The man could get anything for anyone but God could he talk your ears off.

Grayson shifted back to watching the small town below. As Harper's spotter he was always covering the man's back, but it was mutual. the two hated eachother at first but soon grew to respect eachother.
Grayson may have come from a wealthy family but he scammed and hustled like any street wise punk. Harper was an orphan who ran away from the church orphanage and stowed away onto a ship to England for some years. He spoke several languages but didn't speak much at all. He let Grayson do all the talking these days.

Roy followed his scope down sighting in on Virgil hunkered down behind what was left of a dress shop. So far he had figured that there was somthing up with the guy, but couldn't place what. It wasn't his place to drag other people's busness in the open. Both he and Grayson had a respect for the guy. He had more guts than most on the squad.

Virgil braced himself against the brick wall, after all of his work, trying to prove how tough he was despite his small frame, he had finally made it to the war. Virgil left Gotham City as Virgil Hawk, but was born as Virginia Parker, daughter of a WW1 soldier who died of his injuries a year after the war had ended. When she applied for a soldier in the Army, they rejected her because she was a woman, even with her father war record, the best they could manage to offer her was a position in communications or worse... a nurse.

Luckily, the doctor that gave her the physical was a friend of her father who sympathized with what she wanted to do. Virginia was indebted to him for that, the hardest part was surviving Boot Camp, once she passed without incident, she was shipped overseas. She knew she couldn't be the only women hidden in the army, but if they knew not to blow their cover and so did she.

So here he was, in a war torn town, fighting Nazis, or more accurately, about to walk into an ambush set by the bastards. They had received intel that a German Person of Interest was being stashed here in this town, they didn't know who or even if the intel was good. Looking around at the surrounding builds, he started to think how perfect it would be for an ambush. Machine Gunners could be lying in wait in the upper floors, a sniper could be in the Clock Tower, mines could be in the street, mortars could be keyed in to their location before hand. Maybe he was being paranoid, but he'd rather suspect an ambush and be wrong, than assume their wouldn't be one and be dead.

Moving up with her squad, his grip tightened on her M1 Garand, 'Virgil' scanned the area looking for anything out of the ordinary. His eyes passed over a closed window after window, as he looked again, one slowly swung open. There wasn't any wind. "Ambush!" No sooner had the word left his mouth than an MG-42 burst to life behind the windowsill and rained hot lead into the street.

Virgil was lucky as he dived into a door way, a squadmate wasn't so lucky as the first burst killed him, while another man in his squad was struck in the leg. The second that the man was wounded the gun stopped, the shooters were waiting for someone to step out of cover and try to help their fallen comrade. Taking a deep breath as he slid the Garand over his shoulder, Virgil pulled a Thompson off his other shoulder. There was no way he could kill the gunner from his position, but he could suppress him long enough for another squadmate to pull him to safety.

Cocking the Tommy Gun, Virgil stepped out of cover and fired a five round burst at the windowsill, kicking up splinters from the shattering wood. Another few steps, another burst, he repeated this pattern while he tried to draw the Machine Gunner's attention while his squad tried to save an injured man's life;

The beautiful blonde woman smiled and caressed the slightly stubbly jaw of the man in whose arms she was held. She moved in closer and leaned up to meet his lips in a soft, sensual, lingering kiss. She broke the kiss and smiled again, staring into his eyes.

"And cut! Good job, you two. You're done for the day."

Dinah Lance extricated herself from the arms of her scene partner with a tired sigh and walked off the set, running a hand through her long, blonde hair and rolling her head on her neck. The director had made them reshoot that scene at least twenty times. She was glad it was done with. Dinah headed to her dressing room and changed from the slinky midnight blue dress she wore to something a little more suited to walking around Gotham. She pulled on a fur coat over her outfit and headed out of the studio. The nearby Iceberg Lounge had a good crowd tonight, but she didn't wish to go in tonight. She smiled as her car was brought around and her chauffeur crossed to the studio entrance to escort her to the car.

Geoffrey De Lorne drove his Studebaker into Star City, not really paying attention to the passing scenery, his mind on other matters. He'd been hired by Queen Industries four months ago with the promise that he could take the bulky computers that it currently had and shrink them down to something that could easily take up only a quarter of a desk.

Parking his car in the underground carport, he grabbed his attache case and draped his coat over his arm before setting his hat on his head at a slight angle.

Heading into the building, he took the stairs up to the floor he worked on, bid Philo a simple, "Morning," and headed for his desk.

Hanging his coat and hat on a nearby hat-rack, Geoffrey sat down and began pull documents out of the attache case. Scanning the documents quickly, he stood and walking over to Philo, he handed one of the documents and a bluprint to his friend and asked, "You mind checking this over?"

"Goodbye, general," he told his companion as he stepped out into the cool night air of Gotham City. He looked around and saw Dinah Lance, the actress, and was immediately struck. He strolled up to the woman and set his arm on top of the car, giving her his best smile. "Robert Queen, miss . . ." he decided to play stupid with her for the moment.

Dinah was a bit startled by the man suddenly stepping into her path, but she hid her surprise and smiled up at him. "Dinah Lance. May I help you, Mr. Queen?"

He allowed the surprise she hid to show on his face, nearly over-doing it on purpose, but reined it in so it pulled off just the right effect. "Dinah Lance, the actress, Dinah Lance?! I had no idea I would ever meet anyone so famous!" He flashed her another smile and leaned down and over a bit so he could look into her eyes. "Hey, I'm sorta new in town, could you show me a nice place around here so I can buy you a nightcap, or something?" He seemed to put a little more emphasis on the "or something" than the rest of the sentence, but unless she was really paying attention, she wouldn't notice.

Dinah caught the extra emphasis and arched an eyebrow. "My apartment building has a lounge on the first floor. Would that do?" she asked, still smiling. "Though I think what you're looking for isn't just a drink, is it?"

His smile became a smirk. She caught his meaning, but she hadn't slapped him or called him a masher, so Robert was doing just fine. "If you would be so gracious as to lead the way to your apartment, Miss Lance."

Dinah chuckled and slid into the back seat of the car and looked out at Robert. "Unless you have a car to follow in, I'd suggest you get in," she said.

He followed her inside the car and closed the door behind him. "So where is your apartment, beautiful?"

"Home, Jamison." Dinah smiled at Robert. "Oh, just the other side of town."

Robert decided to play the nice guy until they got to her place and libations had flowed. He also decided he would let her ask some questions.
