Wounds:
Old and new bruising on hind quarters
Bleeding Gash across mouth --- scarred and freshly reopened
Bruising neck from bite
Large bleeding Gash on shoulder

Douglas had been lagging behind the rest of the Mahapadma for at least an hour now. His injuries caused him to move slowly with a limp and every step brought pain searing through his shoulder. His shoulder was still seeping blood, probably because his walking did not allow it too close. He could taste the blood from the gash across his mouth and he was sure some of his teeth were showing through the gap. He laughed at the thought how frightening he must appear. The large bruises on his hindquarter also made it difficult for him to keep up to his herd.

He knew they would not care that he lagged behind, He was too much trouble to bother with especially now that their capture was dead and no longer needed guarding. He would either die from bleeding to death or eventually make his way back to the herd. He doubted many would care about which outcome came to pass. He hoped he proved himself a worthy fighter to Samsara.

Thoughts flashed through his mind of the fight, his parents death, past fights. All of the violent encounters fled his mind and seemed to get more jumbled has he continued on and he could feel his mind loosing it's grab even more than usual.

He decided he needed a rest and drink. He went over to the stream he had been walking along and collapsed. The broken pieces of his ax fell from the rips of his bunny suit where he had placed them. He managed to get close enough to the stream to drink and lay there lapping at the cool fresh water.

Candy walked cheerily along the stream, her new best friend, a chicken she had named Pixie Sticks, hopped along beside her, weaving in and out between her feet as she pecked at the grass and rocks around the river bed. She stopped to pause and bask in the glorious summer day. She flipped the long braid over her shoulder and decided to take a drink from the stream. She bent her long neck down and took several pulls of the crisp, cool water.

Pixie sticks clucked and pawed the ground near her hooves for a few moments, before something caught her eyes. The curious little chicken fluffled her feathers and began to get braver: she strut off further along the shore, examining a particularly interesting piece of ground.

Meanwhile, Candy's brows knit at she drank. The water tasted...off. Not horribly...it just wasn't the super clean, crispy taste she was expecting. There was almost a metallic taste to it... a coppery twinge that tainted the otherwise perfect liquid. She lifted her head with concern, deciding to carry on. Her eyes scanned the shore and saw Pixie Sticks several meters away, pecking at a particular patch. A red patch.

Concerned, Candy trotted up next to her feathered friend and gently pushed her away from the red. Was that....?

Worried, Candy looked up and, up the shore a decent distance, she saw a figure laying on the bank. Her eyes widened and she felt a bust of panic. Breaking into a dead run, Candy quickly rushed to body laying broken on the shoreline. "Oh my ...." she breathed, feeling her heart flutter as she looked him over.

Douglas had lapped at the water for a little while. It felt cool to have fresh water but it also seemed to sting is mouth a bit. After his drink he tried to stand up but his limbs felt way too heavy and he seemed to grow more and more exhausted. He decided he would just close his eyes fro a little while instead.

The sound of pounding hooves on the ground near him aroused him a bit. He let out a groan of displeasure...but he found himself to tired to say anything to the newcomer. He found himself growing a little irritated at both his grogginess and the stranger and he seemed to forget about his wounds...even though he could feel the pain.

Candy swallowed as she looked at all the blood. His injuries were far more advanced than anything she had seen before, and her body seemed to freeze in place as her mind raced to comprehend what she should do. She pawed at the ground with her hoof, before nudging him slightly. "Hello, are you awake?" she asked, her voice high-pitched with worry.

She dipped her head, shrugging off the satchel she wore around her neck. It fell the found and opened, revealing a small collection of dried herbs. She generally used a mix of her light healing and these herbs to treat her 'patients' but she had never had to do anything more than a few scrapes and bruises.

Stop the bleeding.

A single thought of clarity finally broke through the panicked haze. Concentrating, she closed her eyes and steadied her breathing as her horn began to glow and pulse. Opening one eye for aim, she gently touched the point of her horn to the gash on this shoulder, the skin underneath beginning to pull and numb.

Douglas slowly opened his eyes to see a pretty mare standing over him looking with worry. He was still groggy and didn't seem to have much energy. He took in the worry in her voice, but didn't answer the question. Was she afraid of him? He didn't sense the same sort of fear as those that were afraid of him. This was something different.

Suddenly memories of his parents seeped into his mind. This mare reminded him of them. The worry and anxiety his parents looked at him with. Like he was sick and disgusting. He hated these memories most of all. He became absorbed in the memories and seemed to be oblivious of what the mare was doing.

"Not right...sick" He said to himself.

His skin seemed to start to crawl and move and he tried to get up to try and get away but found he was unable to move. He started to think he was crazier than he thought. The weird sensation seemed to pull him out of his memories as he focused on the sensation.

Candy wasn't very good at healing. She was inept, just unpracticed. She had led a fairly charmed life, and was never presented the opportunity to do more than stitch up a few scrapes and bruises.

"Sick...?" she asked, trying to distract the victim from the pain. But of course, it was distracting herself as well. She felt a few beads of sweat break out over her face as she screwed her eyes shut and tried to keep her concentration over the slowly knitting wound. At the very least, the bloodflow seemed to be stifling.

"You'll be okay!" she said, trying to reassure him. "Don't you worry one bit."

With his concentration on strange sensation in his shoulder he started to come back to reality. Pain started coming back to him and his shoulder seemed to be on fire where he felt the crawling sensation. "Not sick, hurt," he said both to himself and to the mare.

His memories flashed now to the battle he had just fought. He wondered if his opponent was fairing any better. He hoped not.

He suddenly remembered his ax. Where was it? He lifted his head to try and see. Out of the corner of his eye he could see a small shine by his belly. There it was. He let his head fall back down.

The crawling in his shoulder seemed to be lessening. What was going on? He put his focus back on the mare and realized the horn and her strange expression now. No longer worry but determination seemed to be in her face. She was a unicorn he suddenly realized. "You heal?" he asked at this realization.

It took Candy several good minutes of concentrating to get the wound stitched up enough that the bloodflow finally ebbed away to a small weeping. She stopped, panting. She needed a break - this was way more intense than she had ever done before.

In the meantime, however, he used her muzzle to flip open the flap of the bag she kept around her neck. She snuffled through a collection of leaves and branches until she found the ones she was looking for, and began to chew them.

"Yeff ah heal," she mumbled around her mouthful of herbs. "Donf yew worra, diff wan hur a bit."

Douglas stared blankly at the mare as the pain and tingling now seemed to stop. He was glad that the sensation was over. He did not like the feeling and was finding himself growing more and more uncomfortable. He did not like the idea of being under the care of another. He felt he was at a great disadvantage being wounded and laying below this mare. But he was also able to reason a little bit. Being wounded was a disadvantage anywhere and this mare seemed to be fixing this. He needed to just hold himself together long enough for her to fix him up.

He tried to focus again on what she was saying and doing. He did not understand a word this mare was saying to him with her mouth full. Which annoyed him even more and now she was chewing only who knows what.

He tried to stifle his anger and frustration and managed to snap "Quick," impatiently at the mare. It was the nicest he was able to be in the situation. The only one he had ever found himself being nice to was Samsara and this mare did not have that kind of power.

Candy's ears pressed against the back of her head as he snapped at her, her eyes going wide with hurt. She wasn't used to harsh words - everyone in her herd was so nice and soft spoken. "Sowwy," she mumbled around the herbs, hesitantly leaning down and depositing the herbs, which were now a warm, thick paste, to the wound.

"There, that should help," she squeaked out nervously, gathering the courage to meet his eyes with a sheepish smile. "See? Feels better now, yes?" The herbs did have a slight numbing sensation, muffling the pain of the gash.

The mares reaction to him eased his nerves some and he found himself smirking at it. He loved that expression on others wide eyed and not expecting such cruelty...even if it was a simple word.It showed him that even though she was the one standing over him he still had some power over her. He was in control. Little did she know how cruel he could actually be and with this he eased his tension and let her work.

The paste she put on his shoulder did feel better. The pain seemed to be barely noticeable. He stared at her with a amazed expression. Now that is anger and irritation had subsided he was starting to feel a strange emotion. He was almost happy that this mare was helping him. And not because he wanted to hurt her or watch her suffer but because she had ended his pain. He was confused at these emotions...and tried to shake them off. "Yes" He said continuing to look confused.

Candy breathed a sigh of relief, visibly relieved that he didn't seem to be mad at her anymore. "Good," he said with a smile, giving herself a satisfied nod. "Now, you should give that shoulder as much rest as you can for a few days," she said. She looked over him again, her eyes lingering on the opened gash on his lips.

"Hmmmm," she considered, let me get that one, too," she said, leaning her head down and looking to him for confirmation before continuing.

Douglas didn't care much for rest and knew he should join his herd again as soon as possible. Samsara would not be very happy with any delay in his return and would probably think it a sign of weakness. So didn't listen much to what she was saying. He just wanted to be better.

He saw her gaze at his mouth and he gave a creepy bucktooth smile. He laughed a little at the thought of what he must look like as he felt the sticky blood on his teeth. Then he looked at her seriously and said, "Please."

His emotions now started to turn a bit maniacal as he felt more relief and being healed up.

"Oh...okay," she said with a big smile. She nuzzled around into her her pouch again, chewing up a new batch of the herbs and medicine. "jush a minute, sowwy," she said as she chewed.

She got down on to her knees and scooted closer to him, a red blush coming to her ears as she leaned close to his lips. "Haha, ish like a kish," she said with a nervous giggle, rubbing the herbs on to his mouth.
