The day of double D back-aches and pains was finally over. The day following it was uneventful, save for a text message that came in the morning around 10am: Text from Aria Hey Cass, can you swing by my office later today? I've got a mission here for you that will determined whether or not you're ready to become a full hunter. It's happening tonight, so swing by at 10pm when you're ready. Night! Night? Wait: that was right, Aria kept to an odd sleep schedule. Eventually the time came. Aria looked up from the paperwork on her desk when Cass came in, waving her to a seat. "Evening," she greeted. "This is Bree. Bree, this is Cass, one of our possible soon-to-be-hunters." The person in the other chair turned and waved once Cass was settled in. It was difficult to look away from her hair: black and in dreadlocks, Bree had dyed some of them a bright neon blue. It wouldn't be any surprise if said dreadlocks glowed beneath a black light. Or in the dark. "So." Aria began, leaning back in her chair to study Cass. "Are you ready to see whether or not you qualify for advancement?"

Cass had been rather happy about the lack of boobs to her name (or rather, the smaller set) after a day at the beach and a phone filled with pictures of her making out with female-Marcus. Whoops. She regretted nothing, she guessed, but a good morning run and some weightlifting with Leon easily perked her morning up.
She could feel her back again, and her wonderpowers had turned off.
While eating breakfast her phone had gone off and Cass looked at the message on it. She'd nearly flipped her bowl of oatmeal off of the table before she caught it and held it close to her chest while reading.
whether or not you're ready to become a full hunter.
Oh god.
This was the mission she'd been waiting for forever.. Or at least since she'd signed up for this entire shindig over a year ago. Just - Damn. Her body was ready.
Never the less, that hadn't stopped her from keeping up her normal routine of running a training course and getting some spars in to keep her warmed up before her afternoon nap. Sleep, train, sleep, train, cuddle with Marcus. It was about her schedule between 'eat'.
Still, she might have seemed a bit too eager when she made her way to Aria's office, only barely able to wipe the stupid grin off of her face as she opened the door and stepped in, taking the seat she was waved too. "Good evening." she remembered it was evening this time, not morning. Whoops. That had been quite a little slip, but never the less she wouldn't repeat it.
As introductions were made, Cass found herself in awe of Bree's hair. She never would have been able to pull that off, but the color was unreal to her. Just...radiant. "Nice to meet you." She nodded to the older woman - whom she assumed was an older Hunter. Was she from their division? Cass glanced towards her clothing to see if she could tell right off.
Her attention was quickly drawn back to Aria, sitting up just a bit straighter under her division leader's observation. "I am." <>

Yep: Bree was one of the elusive Mists. She also seemed to favor ankle warmers, leggings, skirts, and belts. She wouldn't have been out of place in a rave, save for her lack of raver accessories. The older hunter in question had pulled out a small runic tablet computer.
Aria studied Cass, tapping the tips of her fingernails together. "I'll start with the debriefing. Bree here found a couple of Fear sites." A folder was picked up and offered to Cass as she spoke, "As you know, the more Fear a site has the higher potential for Halloween activity there is. The difference here is that there are several potential sites. Bree is going to accompany you long enough to the main site. Once there, you're going to split up and investigate."
The division leader paused, leaning forward to study the trainee closer. Her voice grew quieter. "We suspect paranormal activity, most likely originating from a ghost. Do you feel confident on going in alone?"

"A couple? Ouch." Cass didn't like the sound of that at all as her brows furrowed together. But it sounded like it would be somewhat akin to doing a round in the Haunted House when FEAR activity was found. She could handle that. But she also knew that would have been too easy if it was just that.
'most likely originating from a ghost'
Annddddthereitwas.....Cass tried to not look too visibly bothered by that. 'A' ghost? She could handle a ghost, right? She was a possibly-to-be-Hunter. She had Nicodemus. She'd handled a giant blue-flaming death monsters. She'd handled near-death by a Horseman! One little ghost would be fine. But according to Nicodemus, she was laughing nervously in her head.
"Confident? One hundred percent." More like 76%, actually. <> "What are the specs of the locations, exactly?"

"Are you sure," Aria pressed immediately. "It's fully possible that we're dealing with multiple ghosts here. Or a mixture of ghosts and who-knows-what. Would you feel more confident with a team?"
She didn't know the specifics of what Cass had underwent to create said aversion to ghosts. But she wasn't about to let her trainee off that easily with an answer like that.

'multiple ghosts' caused that grimace she'd been trying to prevent to become less of an internal thing, instead plain and on her face as a response. Aria had been wise to pry further. Because as much as Cass would have liked to know she could handle it alone, the wringing of her leggings in her fist was enough to say otherwise.
".... I...." she bit her lower lip, "it may be safer for me if someone else were to come with me, yes." she confess with a low sigh. She looked away from Aria briefly, however, as if some sort of shame had pressed down upon her shoulders at that confession.

Likewise, a louder sigh came from Aria. "Caelius and H may not want to know something like that," she began, "Because they're both giant dicks. You can be honest with me, Cass. I'm not like the other division leaders: I'd rather keep you all alive for as long as I can. Other divisions have an easier time replacing trainees. Mist? Not so much. The sooner we get a trainee, the faster they can learn how to survive, the higher chance they have to survive."
"What we do isn't easy. There are times where we're pushed to face what we fear, and those are times where we have to overcome it. I don't care whether or not you can do it alone or with someone, so long as you are honest with me in letting me know hey I don't think I can, can I get some help? There's no shame in it."
Aria ignored the hypocritical jab her weapon gave her. "Are we clear, Cassandra?"

Cass winced as Aria found it a good time for a bit of a lecture - but it was a well intended and deserved one. Cass didn't roll her eyes, or try to pretend like what she'd just tried to pull was alright by any means. She had to accept that if Aria hadn't been the kind to press her on that kind of information, she could have easily sacrificed her life in an attempt to make Aria 'proud' of her littlest Mist for being grown up and able to handle grown-up work.
Another flinch as suddenly full name happened as well. That was what Nicodemus always called her - to remind her to pay full damn well attention to him. It didn't always work, but the response was somewhat ingrained.
She made a point to actually reestablish eye contact as Aria spoke as well, so when the final press was made, she nodded. "Yes, Aria. I understand and I'm sorry for trying to do something stupid and possibly selfish." Maybe. <<...>> I told you. <>

Aria met Cass' gaze, holding it. "Good," she said bluntly. "Because I hope that the actions of the other douchebags known as division leaders won't prevent us from having some semblance of trust in the future."
She turned her attention towards the room's other occupant. "Bree? What's the status?"
Bree said nothing. She didn't look up from her tablet at all when Aria delivered the lecture. The Mist looked up, shrugging. "Dunno. The sensors aren't strong enough to broadcast all the way back here to Deus. I don't think there'd be a spike in Fear activity. If they knew I was there, then I'd say they'd have either backed off or are preparing something."
Aria nodded. "Then it's settled. Cass?" She turned her attention back to the Mist trainee. "Prepare yourself, bring along those you want to have with you. One to four other people will do. Take as much time as you need, and make sure your potential teammates are also in top condition."

She made a pointed effort to not falter underneath Aria's gaze. "Yes Ma'am." she nodded, but a part of her was still disappointed in herself. But if she was going to have to lead a group (oh god, she was going to have to lead a group...) she needed to pick it wisely.
"If it is a ghost, or even multiple ones, they're most likely watching to see what we're up to. Most ghosts, as far as I've encountered, have a stock standard of responses to people invading their space as a default and will only start planning something if they feel threatened or you snoop too much, or get close to something they don't want you near." Cass suggested, "I mean, that's based on the hauntings I've been at. The rules might be a bit different when we're an actual threat right off the bat." she crossed her arms, "If they've been there a long time, they can easily use their environments to improvise as well. If not, they might not realize certain things are to their advantage either....." If she were to think like a ghost, what would be the first things she'd need to do?
One to four people..one to four people. Someone who can think a bit faster than she could for environment puzzles - perhaps somebody from Death, a few good buffers, so a moon, and then a hard hitter. Which would leave heerrr......well crap, maybe she could do some moon work too....but then she would..
Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm.
She had it!
Cass took out her phone and began to text.Nyxtsuki Moon Text to Dakota: I need you. Aria's office please! Mission time! (Sorry if you were expecting sex from that first line) Syusaki Text to Wilson: Mission time! Care to be my pal and lend me a helpful hand or two? I'm in Aria's office at the moment Prolixity Text to Jordan: Jordan! Hey! I have a mission. Want to get some friend-bonding in on it with me? I'm in Aria's office.

Dakota had been back to his usual routine of working out when the text from Cass came. He half expected it to be some kind of "I WILL BREAK YOUR BALLS..." Because you know...Double D nightmare had happened and he was STILL recovering from the onslaught of female texts and death threats.
He grinned though at the last line of her text and tucked the phone away. Oh Cass, So cute. Donning the Intermediate jacket for Moon, he pulled his ever growing black hair up into a ponytail and stretched. Mission time.
It didn't take him long to reach Aria's office either.
"Evening ladies." He sauntered in, "I'm sorry it has to be under such....demanding times....Hey Cass, How are you feeling?" He looked over to the smaller girl, "I know you were in a lot of pain from...that...thing..."
Smooth.

Dakota may have been working out when he received the text, but Wilson? Wilson was eating chocolate. He still had a craving for chocolate even after the whole double D’s thing. Not like he minded that much. Chocolate was always good and hopefully Eva didn’t mind him plowing through her supply of chocolate. He would make sure to buy more later. He popped another piece of chocolate into his mouth before he pulled out his cellphone. Pleasant surprise flashed across his face when he realized it was from Cass. Wilson didn’t get a message from her every day, that was for sure. As he reached for his hunter jacket, he texted Cass a quick reply, on my way!
He had never been in Aria’s office before, but he hadn’t seen Aria often either. The only thing he could remember about her was that she was the Mist leader and that…time with the first love thing and H and Dakota and oh speaking of Dakota he was here too. Wilson nodded to Aria first as a brief greeting before waving to both Dakota and Cass. “Hey!”

Text notifications were a mixed bag. You never knew whether you were getting a twitter note, a summons, a request, something nice, or a mission, so it was always with an edge of curiosity that Jordan checked his phone. From Cass this time. He tapped a reply back, and went to get his kit and coat. When he arrived, he was mildly surprised to see who else was there. A good mix, probably. He hadn't worked with Wilson yet; he supposed he'd find out what the guy was like today. "Hey," he said, and nodded to the others.

Cass grinned at each boy who came in - naturally her posse was going to end up all male. That was just..kind of..who she hung out with.........she needed more gal pals. But for now she'd be happy with just hanging out with a few individuals she didn't normally get to run around with. If going into 'ghost territory' would be considered 'hanging out'. Never the less, it was a group she wouldn't mind letting see her deteriorate into madness if it came to that.
Dakota had already seen that, after all.
"Hi hi~ I'm glad you all had some time in your schedule for me." she grinned. "Thanks for coming." Cass waved from the seat she was sitting in, before she took a moment to motion to Bree. "Jordan, Wilson, Dakota - this is Bree. Bree found a couple of FEAR sites, and we're going to be going to the main site with her before we split off to investigate. According to Aria," she looked to the Mist division leader, "they suspect paranormal activity from a...ghost...."
She said 'Ghost' with a slight flatline in her tone. Clearly a bad word to her. However, she figured it was probably best to catch up her 'crew' on what debriefing she'd gotten thus far.

Dakota looked over as Wilson and Jordan came in, waving to them both before focusing back on Cass. He blinked in surprise as they talked about a FEAR site cointating ghost....He thought most knew about Cass's immediate fear of the supernatural....So why were they sending her to go and deal with it.
"Awesome...So we're who they call when they need to get rid of ghost...Ghostbusters." He tucked his hands in his pocket and winked at Bree.
Pretty lady after all.
