Roll a Seven: Forest Field: Thick trees, some small while others greatly exceed double your own height, sprout at random places throughout the field. Giant roots provide easy excuses for pokemon to trip if they do not watch where they are going. Spacing between the trunks vary, making passage difficult for those on the ground and in the air. This field gives a 25 HP attack boost to BUG and GRASS type attacks.This field also reduces damage from FLYING type attacks by 25 HP.

Mephistopheles floated beside Lenore as she walked into the trainer box. She smiled and waved at him, and he floated down to the forest below.

Zinnia entered the trainer's box with Shadow Mew trailing behind her. She examined the field critically. "It's not the best field for us," she confided in her pokemon, "but you're used to flying through forests and seeing in dim lighting, so that at least shouldn't be a problem. Your opponent will probably be able to hide with all these trees, but then again, you can hide too!"

Shadow Mew patiently waited until Zinnia was done with her little pep talk.

"All right, it's time for you to take your place on the field! Good luck!"

As soon as Shadow Mew was in position, Zinnia gave the command, "Night Shade attack, now!"

Shadow Mew darted into the forest, levitating smoothly between the trees that obscured her view. Once she had located the Duskull, her eyes flashed and she released the ghostly attack.

The duskull cringed under the attack, but quickly pushed it off. He looked at the mew and bowed. "Greetings. My name is Mephistopheles, and as you seem aware, I am your opponent. Good luck."

An orb of darkness appeared before the duskull, and it launched with furious purpose at the mew.

Lenore tilted her head at the cat-like pokemon. She had read about a pokemon similar - very rare, but pink instead.

Shadow recoiled at the strength of the Shadow Ball attack, retreating to take cover among the thick branches of the trees. Not being very talkative, especially during a battle, she declined to respond to Mephistopheles's polite greeting.

"It's time for some Payback, Shadow!" Zinnia shouted, squinting as she peered through the forest to catch a glimpse of the battling pokemon.

Shadow dove out of her hiding spot and onto the duskull.

Mephistopheles was caught by surprise and slammed into the ground, pinned. He phased out, passing through the mew and firing off another shadow ball from point blank range.

Shadow took her turn on the mossy stadium floor as the duskull's Shadow Ball struck her in the back. She whirled back up again, regarding her red-faced opponent warily.

"Night Shade!" Zinnia shouted.

Mephistopheles quickly canceled out the attack with his own Night Shade, then sent another at the mew.

Lenore watched the other pokemon curiously. Everything about it said it was a mew, but it was much darker than usual. Curious.

"Okay, Shadow Ball!" Zinnia commanded.

Shadow grit her teeth against the Night Shade attack, turning in midair in order to face the ghost once again. She held her paws close together, one above the other, and a dark, shadowy orb began to form. It grew larger and larger in size until the mew took careful aim and released it.

Mephistopheles was struck by the orb, floating back from the impact. He responded by sending off a barrage of smaller orbs at the mew.

Lenore concluded that the mew was simply different than other mews, like the pikachu and buneary she had seen recently.

"Night Shade!"

Shadow neatly dodged each orb, weaving gracefully between the attacks. With each dodge, she came closer to Mephisto, until she was able to return his attack with a powerful blast of ghostly energy.

Mephistopheles shook off the oppressive force before turning to the Mew. "I feel that this battle is over, and find you to be the superior contender. I see no reason to extend this into what would simply be a charade. Farewell."

He erupted into shadow, covering everything in darkness. He reappeared by Lenore's side, visibly worn. The girl turned to him, and offered a small smile. "You looked pretty cool out there."

With that, the two turned and left.

Shadow nodded grimly as the ghost vanished, then teleported back to her own trainer's side.

"Oh, uh, thanks for the battle!" Zinnia called, waving, as her opponents exited the stadium. She turned to Shadow. "You did really well!" she complimented. "Let's go to the pokemon center now."
