The large brown male huffed as he hauled what was possibly one of the smallest gazelle he had ever seen in his lifetime. It was all he had been able to catch though and that was only because it had a bad leg. Durin was no hunter and he probably never would be, but he had to for the sake of what he had learned to be his first children. That alone was enough motivation for the burly lion to continue hunting despite the embarrassment of his own failure in being unable to catch anything worthwhile. Finally, he just sat down, his mouth open as his panted in an attempt to catch his breath and cool his massive body off. When had he gotten so out of shape?!
He turned his head and looked back towards the trees that he and a few lionesses made their home at. Durin couldn't help himself as he groaned in displeasure of the distance there was still between him and finally being able to relax under the shade of his trees.

Persikka had tried his best once again to help with the hunt. This time however it seemed he had been with a group that had heard of his previous failures, and so they instructed him to stay at the back of the group, and even went so far as to exclude him from any plan that actually had him helping to take down a beast. The male didn’t mind, however sitting back and doing nothing made him feel so out of place and awkward. He was glad when they had come back. Now though, with the hunting party having returned and nothing else for him to do with his current time he set out once more to walk around the lands of the pride. His walking had brought him back to the pride’s borders without him noticing, his thoughts set on his continued search for his place. Persikka felt himself getting closer to finding a rank that would have him contributing to the pride, but he wondered how long it would take to actually find it.

Durin raised his head to the sky, looking towards the position of the rising sun. It was still relatively early in the morning and it was already too hot for the tired male. His body slid onto the ground from his sitting position with the kill still laying beside him. It wasn't going anywhere and if anyone tried to take it, hopefully adrenaline would help him fend them off. The male contemplated possibly leaving the corpse behind for only a few moments to retrieve with Damu or Asali to aid him. No, he couldn't do that. The two already hunted enough for him and themselves. He had to do this for his unborn cubs and possibly his own pride.

So caught up in his thoughts was he that Persikka would likely not have stopped walking for some time had he not caught sight of the other male. However upon seeing the large male he pushed aside his previous thoughts and made his way towards him. “Hello there!” Persikka called out to the male, who had at this point lain himself on the ground beside what appeared to be a recently caught gazelle. “Quite a catch you have there.”

Durin's head turned suddenly to look towards the source of the masculine voice. His ears went back the moment he laid eyes on the intruder and his lips raised slightly in a snarl. "What is you business here, stranger?" He asked quickly as he moved himself in front of his kill. Having never truly had a bounty to eat the brown male had always been protective of his kills. This time especially since it wasn't really for him. His mind began racing with all sorts of questions. Why was that male there? Was he there to take his females from him? Would he need to fend him off? Was he just trying to be friendly? No, Durin could not risk letting his guard down for a moment, not with three and possibly many more depending on him for protection.

Persikka slowed his pace as the lion turned with a seemingly aggressive stance. Finally he came to a halt, still a distance away. There was enough space that he could likely escape, should the other male attach, but he was still close enough that if this male was quick he could be on Persikka within a short time. Neither running nor fighting were strengths of his, and he wasn’t about to risk a fight if he could avoid it.
The peach male took a couple steps back before replying to the male’s question. “I was just out walking.” He replied, glancing around. He was suddenly quite aware that these appeared to be outside of his prides lands. “I seem to have walked further than intended though..” He continued in a softer voice, more talking to himself than the other male. How far had he walked? And just how had he not noticed leaving the Pridelands? Since he was no longer within the territory of the pride had he stumbled into someone else’s land? Perhaps that was why this male seemed to defensive.

"Your walk happened to fall within my territory, stranger." Durin replied flatly with a small growl following his statement. It had been a while since another male had grown so bold as to wander right into his land and act as if they knew nothing of it. "I suggest you leave while I'm still giving you a choice in the matter. You're pretty big, but so if your gut. By the sound of your voice, I don't think you'd put up much of a fight against me." Most of that was just bluffing. It had been way too long since Durin had actually fought another male, but he hoped that his skill hadn't dulled too much if the time came for a battle.

So he had walked into the territory of another. Persikka was at least glad the male had not outright attacked him, and now seemed to be giving him the opportunity to leave and avoid a fight. However he could not help but smirk at the assumptions the brown male threw out. Persikka would not deny the size of his stomach, and certainly had no problems with it. If anything he was grateful that he was able to have such an abundance of food so as to carry such a belly on him, but that this lion seemed to think him weak? Or, at the very least, not much of a fighter. It was not a completely untrue statement, as Persikka wasn’t but if he had to he was sure he could at least keep up with this other male for a time.
Not one to be rattled so easily though he brushed aside what could conceivably be considered an insult, and instead opted to take up the other males offer to leave unscathed. He didn’t doubt he could hold his own for at least a little while, but he did know it was doubtful he would get away clean. The last thing he wanted was to have to make his way back to Pride Rock while injured. “I will leave you to your meal then.” Was all that Persikka said. He would have to make note that this land was claimed. He didn’t want to think that he might wander in here again, and this male be less ‘kind’ the next time.
Slowly he turned and started to walk off, ears swiveling back as he listened intently for any signs that the male may have been bluffing, and had intended to attack all along.

Golden eyes stared the other male down as the lighter of the two turned to leave. Durin waited until the intruder was almost double the distance heh ad been before to finally grab his gazelle by it's back leg and begin dragging it once more, but this time in more of a hurry then before. All the while he occasionally raised his gaze from the ground his home trees to the horizon. Well this had been an interesting day so far and it was one that he would not likely share to any of his females lest they begin to worry. He had taken care of it so there was no need to worry after all.

Silence followed as he walked, or at least from the other male. Persikka heard no signs of movement from the brown lion behind him, and was quite glad for it. Finally, when he felt he had gotten far enough away, he slowed and glanced over his shoulder. The male had picked up his gazelle and was now dragging it away, paying no more attention to the intruder in his land. With the possible danger of an attack seemingly past Persikka turned back around, intent on getting back into the Pridelands.
