It was pretty much an ordinary Sunday, and by ordinary, extremely not extraordinary. In fact, when it came to Deus Ex, it was often hard to remember which day it was, in between the requests, missions, training, and well, self-inflicted drama of sorts. Most trainees simply told the time by the fact that the lunch menu had changed. Mondays it was spaghetti. Tuesday meatloaf. Wednesdays ham sandwiches. And when it came to Sunday well, Chef's Surprise was as much of a surprise to the trainees as it was to the chef.

Thankfully Rep would be skipping out of one chef's surprise this noon as he received a perhaps rather anticipated text:

Text from Allan

Naturally being a Sun Hunter, Rep should have totally known what a nakama was... right?

OOC

- Rep should bring four "nakama" along with him to Allan's room to get information about his promotion. Good luck!

To say Rep was tired of everyone being promoted around him was an understatement. To him every day he wasn't promoted was another day closer to inevitably being killed off. Another day he remained more of a drain on the organisation than anything else. He'd filed for promotion as a last ditch effort to get a chance to truly prove himself before Simon likely ******** offed him out of boredom. He hadn't really been expecting a reply.

He was sitting in the cafeteria with a mug of hot chocolate when he phone went and he stared at it for a while, sipping his drink not sure what to make of Allan texts at the best of times, even less so today. What did it mean to be nakama?, he had no ******** idea, the word was more often than not bereft of contextual cues when it was used. All he'd managed to gather was that it meant something along the lines of other people. And four people. Where the hell would he of all people find four people to bring along?

The first two at least were entirely obvious to him, there were some people he just wanted there with him wherever he was.

Hey man, got text from Allan. Promotion. Need a team. Obv want you and Ace there. Need to come to Allan's room.

Text to Harrison - From Rep
I got a promotion mission text from Allan. Need backup, want Jordan and you there for sure. Come to Allan's room?

And then there was Rin who was another given as far as he was concerned. She'd been moody as ******** of late, but he figured that just boiled down to some woman thing he didn't understand. She'd have to be interested in helping him out right? It was him. He was a big deal. He needed four others though, and this was only three.

Byrr
Text to Rin - From Rep
Promotion time for me. Need trusty people, want you there. Come to Allan's room if you are awesome enough. Bring someone else too.

That was what they called delegation right?, get someone else to worry about a problem you couldn't be arsed with. If Rin didn't bring someone then it would be her fault, not his.

Texts sent, he made his way ahead to Allan's office, memories of the man party echoing faintly in his thoughts as he wandered through the hall. If there was even a door, he knocked it, if it had been demolished somehow as usual, he knocked the wall alongside it.

He was stupidly tense and worried. This could be it, he told himself, the ******** moment when he'd get a chance to earn his worth, when he could finally prove himself and stand alongside his peers without always being the useless lower ranked waste of space. There was a whole ******** lot riding on this, foremost amongst it, probably his survival, fail this, and he'd probably fall below the acceptable standards to be worth being kept alive.

As he waited, he tried to wrack his brains for what the hell nakama meant.

He missed google sometimes.

Rin raised a brow slowly at the text she had received. Was about damn time, she was starting to think he'd get himself killed long before he'd ever be promoted. Good for him, he must be improving. But who should she bring along? There was some conflict with both of her other friends.

Her first though was naturally Sasha but... well, this IS Rep and Sasha's been acting so unusual lately that honestly she didn't want to risk whatever was going on getting her killed.

Second thought was Jerry, those two didn't really get along all that often but Rep did defend him the last time they were together as far as she knew. '

She smiled.
Ah, sun bonding - what could hurt?

She promptly fired off a text to Jerry and started getting properly dressed for the mission before heading off.

He detoured back to his room long enough to pick up his bag, and was upstairs shortly. He stopped next to Rep, clapped him on the shoulder, and grinned at him. "About time."

Harrison passed Jordan in the hall, stopping off at their room to get his coat and mission clothes before heading upstairs.

The dorms were wrecked all over, but he guessed this level had some kinda priority. He stepped around Moon work crews and made his way to Allan's room. With any luck, it'd be something quick and easy and Rep would have that new coat in no time.

"Hey, yeah, congrats," he whispered, not sure where Allan was. He bet Rep was looking forward to that pay upgrade, too.

Jerry could definitely use a mission after everything that had happened recently. He needed an opportunity to blow some things up, literally. Dressing quickly, he replied to the text gratefully before heading out to where Rin had directed. His guitar strap had been retrofitted to hang his cane from when firing Roar, hanging around his torso like a sash as he made his way there.

At the sight of Rep and boys, his expression harrowed a bit, "Uh... You er... needed my help?" He glanced to Rin, wondering what was going on. He did not need another fight right now.

Rin cracked a smile at Jerry as he arrived, perhaps his skepticism was warranted but for now - all she knew was when she had last seen them together they seemed like proper sun-bros.

"Yup!" she gestured for Jerry to come closer to stand by her.

"A promotion, even!" she actually sounded genuinely excited for Rep. She wasn't sure he'd ever make it but she was damn well pleased he had.

The Sun Division leader popped out of the closet - literally - just in time to greet the five trainees, which he did as warmly as usual. "Rep-kun, just the person I am looking for!"

He nodded to the rest of the trainees as he put down the box of oddly assorted Runic weaponry he was carrying, which fell with a loud thunk, betraying its weight. Even though it was pretty obvious that Allan was excited was well, as it was his division trainee and there was always a small amount of bias towards his division (just a small one), he carefully schooled his features into what he thought was a serious and caring expression. "Now Rep-kun, I know you've made mistakes in the past, but I believe in you. This is your mission and you are going to do this and make Allan-taichou and Simon-kun proud now, are you not?"

Even though Simon wasn't actually here, one could almost see the glint of his guns right behind Allan like an ominous shadow.

"Anyway," The Sun lead began to rummage in the odd box of assorted Runic everything, "I have just the mission to test your strength as nakama!" He began to pull out a few items. A Runic dagger that glowed orange instead of blue. Trapping guns, torches, bandages and weighted chains all glowing orange. "Simon-kun and I spent all night planning a suitable mission. You are to take these items, and test them out to eliminate the evils of darkness of the jungle. Make sure you do not stray off path for, with evil there is greater evil, and as trainees, you are not quite ready, not yet."

"Oh that reminds me!" Allan quickly ran over towards the kitchen counter, picking up five neatly wrapped and packaged boxes. "I made bento boxes for you all, so when you feel tired, just set up a small camp with the barrier daggers and eat up!" He began passing them to each trainee in the room. "Now, pick up one of the sample weapons only, they are powerful, but you must remember your kokoro as use them with restraint, as you will be acting as the leader of your group, Rep. Make sure your group members listen to you, only you can speak out to them. Once at the location, eliminate the creatures inside spirit path only. When you are done, come back and report to me and I have something even more special for you along with your new coat!"

Spoiler: it was probably plush and extremely fluffy.

OOC

- WEAPONS: Every trainee gets to choose ONE of the five weapons that Allan has provided. They are MODIFIED so they have special effects. As this is Rep's mission, it is probably favourable to let him choose first.

Basic Barrier Daggers
Difficulty level: Experimental
Battle Effect: A player can use this up to three times. When planted onto the ground/ on something solid really, they have the ability to deflect Fear. Roll one 1 10-sided dice and quote a target. This is the damage that you AND YOUR TARGET will deflect next turn from your opponent.
Non-battle Effect: A character can icly temporarily ward off all Fear creatures as long as both of them are planted to the ground in a 5-foot radius.

Basic Trapping Gun
Difficulty level: Experimental
Battle Effect: A player can use this up to three times. It will automatically dissipate ALL (lesser) opponents.
Non-battle Effect: The gun may snare a target, trapping them. This is also very useful for collecting specimens

Basic Hand Torch
Difficulty level: Experimental
Battle Effect: Once per battle, a player may choose to roll a 20-sided dice. This is the amount of additional damage that the player does for the next FIVE turns. The torch will add additional fire damage to the Hunter's existing weapon.
Non-battle Effect: The torch will act as additional fire damage stacked on to a Hunter's weapon. It also functions well on its own as a beacon.

Basic Weighted Chains
Difficulty level: Experimental
Battle Effect: By chaining your opponent, you can avoid all damage done to you and two other party members. You can use this as much as you want.
Non-battle Effect: The weighted chains wrap around the opponent, snaring their mobility and rendering them useless.

Basic Bandages
Difficulty level: Basic
Battle Effect: THIS ITEM IS USED UP if you use this effect. You can use this three time. It automatically heals all players.
Non-battle Effect: The bandages are long enough for multiple uses!

- Once you are done choosing, put the choice in QUOTES at the bottom of your post, and head into the portal (Allan's closet).

The congratulations from people as they arrived made him swell with pride, adrenaline starting to get going even just from the idea of what was to come. He'd make every last one of them proud, ace this mission and then buy everyone drinks. Even Jerry got a bright surprised look at his arrival. He was in no mood to be a d**k to the other sun, instead just waved to him in greeting. "Sup speccy? And aye, help would be great, thanks for coming along."

Rep normally was judgemental of everyone, but it was really difficult to maintain ill thoughts of an individual when they were both your superior and incredibly powerful. He'd seen Allan in a fight and it never failed to dazzle him how easy the other man made complete destruction look. He didn't understand the general awkward attitude towards the man. So what if he was a bit weird? Rep still thought he was ******** great.

When the sun leader showed up, Rep's expression lit up and he stood just a little bit more to attention, nodding his head enthusiastically. "Aye Allan-taichou!" He fully intended to make both the leader and his assistant proud, to completely obliterate that subtle edge of warning in his tone, that lurking threat of Simon-based retribution. His past mistakes would be forgotten, this was where s**t turned around for him.

As the box was opened his already bright expression bordered onto the realms of kirakira. Badass orange weapons! It took a lot to get him genuinely enthusiastic, but the offer of weapons and a promise of s**t to kill them with was just too much to resist. He couldn't keep the grin off his face.

Even the bento box was taken with a grateful nod and an affirmative "Ta" before being stowed away in his jacket, none of his usual sceptical derisiveness anywhere to be found. He rummaged through the various weapons on offer, picking them up to eye them each in turn. There were many tempting possible options but the final choice was an inevitable one for him; he'd already earned himself a trap gun before from various runs, so the gun was the most familiar choice. Not to mention, as far as he was concerned, guns were all kinds of fantastic as far as personal image went.

A leader. He'd be the ******** leader for once. It was a thrill. He couldn't afford to let his usual anxiousness and cringing submissiveness to certain people get in his way, he had to be strong and decisive. He owed it to himself, to Allan and to the others. His friends - a term he even included Jerry in today- had turned out to help him with this when he needed them, as had his lovers, and his gratefulness knew no bounds. Only four months ago he'd had no one closer to him than an acquaintance, in comparison, these days he felt rich.

He turned to face the four of them like a wild eyed and excitable little kid, waving the trap gun as he spoke.

"Right! You heard Allan guys! Lets get kitted up and move out!"

He hung back to make note of what everyone opted for from the weapons before following them eagerly into the portal.

Don't stray from the path, got it. He took the lunchbox with his name on it, peeking briefly inside. He'd expected chips and a sandwich, so was pretty baffled to have a lady smiling back at him between what was....some kind of fried meat, maybe? Was he supposed to eat that? It looked- organic. Sort of. He closed the lid. He'd worry about it later.

Harrison looked at the row of orange weapons. Bandaids were always good. He hovered over those. But somebody would have them, this was a tight group, not every man for himself. And Rin was transferring over to Life anyhow. She'd know how to operate a bandaid.

He picked up the daggers instead, examining the blades and handle.

He'd wanted one of these for a while. They were Moon weapons, and he could always use another way to stab s**t. ...Or ward it off, whichever came first.

B0nez wanted him to stack up on health and gear, and was pretty disappointed that Harrison was only taking the daggers and one lunchbox. At least there were two daggers. Harrison wasn't sure how quadruple wielding was going to work out, but B0nez wanted to try it..

Rep's promotion mission? Jerry's eyes narrowed, but he kept his mouth shut. In his opinion, the trainee was no where near ready for promotion... The thought of Rep with more power behind him somewhat terrified him. But that was up for the superiors to decide. He gave the red-head's greeting a slight nod in response, but was uncharacteristically quiet.

Rep had still not returned Sasha's flute to her. There were only so many excuses and delays Jerry could put forth. Still, he wanted Rep to do the right thing on his own, if not with Jordan and Harrison's help. As far as he could tell, neither took the situation very seriously.

A matter of respect, he supposed, catching Jordan's eye for just a moment before listening to the rest of Allan's briefing. Well, Rin had called him here. Awkward revenge for his attempts to put his foot down over who Sasha was dating? Maybe. An attempt to make amends and show good faith and that she considered him part of the team? Perhaps.

He was cleared for Runic Torches, had carried them with him before but never actually put one to use yet. After Rep and Harrison had made their choices, he picked up the orange glowing device, feeling it's weight in his hands. Affixed to Roar's nose, it really could pack a punch. It would be interesting.

"Yes, sir," Was all he said on the matter, still feeling awkward and out of place, wondering if he was even welcome. Dammit, Rin. What was she playing at.

Jordan nodded to his friends as they arrived. He was a little surprised to see Jerry; maybe Rep was making a peace offering, in his own weird way? At any rate, it seemed a pretty solid team. Three Suns and two Moons, and Jordan would be making a conscious effort to step back and not take charge; this was Rep's promotion mission, after all.

He accepted the bento box from Allan and tucked it carefully into his kit bag; Allan was strange, but his enthusiasm and genuine care for his division was unmistakable. "Thank you, sensei." Remembering bits and pieces of weeaboo Japanese seemed like sort of a weird way to show respect, but Allan would take it that way, and that was the important part.

Experimental runic weaponry made Jordan a little nervous, but all in all, he trusted it more when Allan was handing it over. Allan, at least, wouldn't have deliberately booby-trapped it, which was more than could really be expected out of certain other division leads. Jordan chose the chain and clipped it to his belt in place of his usual chain. Now was not the time to experiment with other runic weapons. He'd go with what he knew best.

This was going to be Rin's first mission as a fresh lifer, it was Rep's promotion but in a way she saw it as her own test as well as his. A true test of what the ******** she can do now and... experimentation seemed like the best way to do that. She anxiously watched as everyone tore into the pile. Hoping no one would take the precious bandages she had her eye on.

No one did, much to her relief. She snatched them up, smiling giddily as she tucked them away. She couldn't wait to test them, but she had to. For now.

She had not a clue what a beano box was, it sounded uncomfortable but looked interesting, she gave her's a quick looking over before tucking it away as well.

Ah! Oh, we're going now?

"Aye aye cap'n!" Rin cheered at Rep before mock-marching through the portal. Shooting a thoughtful look and then a smile back at Jerry. See? She knew they were friends!

Rin actually wasn't playing at a thing Jerry~

The other side of the - ahem - closet was a familiar sensation: warm and smothering all at once. The dense vegetation in the form of oversized trees, leaves, vines combined with uneven muddy grounding confirmed that the trainees were at least not in Kansas. As in maybe 5429.6 miles away from Kansas, generally in the south direction. An in, unbeknownst to the trainees of course, the closest city in proximity was Rio de Janeiro.

A raucous clicking noise interrupted the trainees for a second, followed by a cacophony of wing beats, screeching, high-pitched howling and rustling. Surprisingly, everything was rather dark, perhaps because the thick foliage of the local vegetation obscured everything, leaves and vines branching into the sky, leaving only tiny slivers of sunlight. Something colourful hissed and crawled past the trainees: being in the rainforest also threatened poisonous creatures.

The other source of light was clearly unnatural: sticking in the mud were a series of smaller Runic Daggers that clearly marked a large circle, a pen of sorts, around them. They also seemed to keep the natural predators at bay as an oversized snake attempted to curl passed and hissed as Runic energy snapped at its coils, thwarting it away. Thankfully, the foliage was also thinner the second they got into the 'pen', providing a small clearing of sorts, easily large enough for five people, perhaps even five people and a small camp, which was probably the entire point of this clearing.

It was still quiet when they arrived to take in their surroundings. In fact, five minutes in, it was still quiet. Quiet enough to probably even enough to have some of that bento that Allan had kindly made for them. Fifteen minutes in, other than several mosquito bites and the same sizeable snake eyeing the trainees reproachfully, it was quiet to the point of boredom.

It wasn't until a single feeble shadow creature, very much similar to the ones in the Shadow Run training course crawled out from a few bushes into the clearing that there was finally going to be some action.

As he stepped out into the humid jungle Rep felt distinctly nervous. There were a lot of things in jungles that he hated. Like spiders. Like mosquitoes. Like huge ******** monsters guarding lairs.

Like snakes, who he hated more than all the things put together.

But he had to lead. A leader couldn't be affected by s**t around them.

Snakes didn't seem to care for his increased responsibility, or his grudge against them, they still insisted on trying to invade his space. He tensed as the large one tried to cross the runic barrier and made a very strangled little startled sound, wanting to run, only pure terror keeping him rooted to the spot. But the runic barrier did its job and there was a rush of relief, he was okay. It couldn't get him. He pretended he hadn't just been about to scream and run to the ******** hills in a very un-leader like manner and tried to resume his air of confidence from before.

He put some distance between himself and the ******** snake, wandering on -quickly- to examine the clearing. Inside the barrier at least it seemed quiet and safe. No snakes with its boundaries either. He checked pretty thoroughly.

"We have to stay on our guard." he said as he turned back to face his group. "Too ******** quiet." The quiet itself was making him more irritable and tense than usual, quiet in Deus tended to mean something big was nearby.

But nothing came. Nothing at all. For what felt like ages. He paced like a caged animal, tempted to go looking for a fight, after all he'd prove nothing at all to anyone by sitting around inside a ******** safe barrier all day. Choices. He'd never had to deal with them before and the stress was already creeping into his thoughts, making him visibly more twitchy. He couldn't settle for a snack as it might have been wise to, too nauseous and anxious, freezing in his pacing every time the foliage so much as moved in the breeze.

By the time the first shadowling emerged, Rep felt like he was going crazy with boredom. He eyed it ferally, summoning Tracey.

"Finally. Incoming."
