(It must be noted that these events are PAST events. They have occurred prior to this RP, and should be considered and referenced when spinning your responses.)Here's a set of links to the RiG series that I'm using as part of the backstory. They're in order, so read the top one first, then the next, and so on. The larger text is the main story, while the smaller text is relevant side-stories.

Creator's Delusion (Sequel to Of Light and Darkness. Ongoing.)
Resurrected in GensokyoRetribution in GensokyoFlower of HellReminiscence in Gensokyo(Unfinished, ongoing.)
First thing, that may come as a shocker: Yukari is dead. D-E-A-D, dead. Well, actually, her spirit is taking it's sweet time going through the Lord Yamas' judicial system, but she is not a part of Gensokyo or it's border anymore. How did she die? Well, in the Reborn in Gensokyo series, she and Yuka died saving Gensokyo from when Kikuri had been resurrected. Kikuri had actually managed to possess Yukari, but she regained control for a split second, long enough to allow Yuka to sacrifice herself in order to destroy Yukari. Both perished. Both were offered the option to resurrect almost immediately, but Yukari opted to decline, claiming that she wanted a vacation. Yuka chose to be reborn, but when she did, she was reborn as she had appeared when she was 17, and even had faint traces of her old human self showing through. Yuka has since been married to a human-turned-youkai named Haru.
Heida no Akyu and Haru were best friends throughout most of the RiG series, but Akyu eventually died due to her curse/illness. Haru and Yuka both took up Akyu's duties of writing the Gensokyo Chronicle for her, because Akyu and Haru made a plan that would allow Akyu to make a deal with the Yama who had placed the curse upon her. Akyu is still deceased, but Haru anticipates her return as a full youkai at any time.
"Yukari Yakumo" was actually an alias adopted by Murasaki Hakurei (the one who first sealed Gensokyo away) when she turned into a full youkai so that she would be able to watch over and protect the border for centuries, or even millenia.
Reimu Hakurei has adopted Yukari's position as the Border Youkai, and relinquished her position as the miko of Hakurei Shrine. Reimu Yakumo now has all the abilities of Yukari, she's just not as well-practiced with them.
Ran is no longer a shikigami as of Yukari's death. However, she has opted to help Reimu learn Yukari's abilities and assist the ex-shrine maiden. (Which stinks for me, because I don't like Reimu, and I'm playing as Ran.) Ran intends to strike out on her own (with Chen, of course) someday.
Reimu had a daughter. With whom, no-one knows. But her name is Murasaki Hakurei II, in honor of Yukari. (You'd have to ask Mima, the writer of the RiG series.)
Sanae had twin daughters. It is suspected that she used her ability of miracles. Their names are Ishi and Misora. Again, the father is a mystery. (Blame Mima again.)
Reimu and Sanae's daughters often work together on youkai extermination escapades, and have become known as The Troublesome Trio across Gensokyo. But they're not really a threat, and they're still quite young.
During the events of Kikuri's resurrection, Kikuri had used Yukari's power to completely shatter Gensokyo in it's entirety, scattering the parts all across the known existance. Gensokyo is but a tiny fraction of what it once was, and many parts are still missing, eerie black chasms filling the areas that are still missing. If one were to look into these chasms, they could see Hokkai far below, just beyond where the border of Gensokyo ended underground. Reimu Yakumo has been working hard to restore Gensokyo, but much of the land and people are still missing. As it stands, there's really only the human village, SDM, The poltergeist mansion, part of the Forest of Magic, half of the Youkai Mountain, and the wasteland around the crater that once used to be Yuka's Garden of the Sun, as well as the exact spot that Yukari and Yuka died. Other places can be "reconnected" through the RP, but for now, this is all we have... and Reimu's lazy.
I have another theory I present in my fanfic series in which Flan's insanity actually stems from Laevateinn, and Laevateinn is actually a woman from a super-ancient race of people that had been weaponized, called the Varchorati. In "Awakening Emotional Gensokyo ~ Incredible Pains of Unarmoured Heart", Flan loses Laevateinn, and embarks on a search for her weapon. Over the course of the story, Flandre becomes less crazy insane, and more like a "proper little girl". Alice and Marisa help her search for Laevateinn, but they eventually uncover the truth, being that Laevateinn has resurrected, and is razing the countryside of Gensokyo in a rampage, with no grip on sanity or reality. Eventually, Gungnir is also resurrected... and while he solves the problem of his sister, Laevateinn (by eating her alive, I might add... just to obtain her raw power), it is soon discovered that he is the greater of two evils. A pair of my OCs manage to piece Laevateinn back together and bring her back to life, which restores Laevateinn's sanity, and allows her to finally get a grip on her immense power. Laevateinn then agrees to allow herself to be weaponized once more into a great blade, so that she might slay her brother to avenge her entire race, and then atone for her great sins by being wielded in Kit's hands, purely for the protection of the people in the Human Village. Anyway, after all is said and done Flan herself is able to be free to leave the mansion as she pleases without anyone being bothered, and without her having to be sneaky or have much opposition when leaving. Flan's first little friendy-friend group in one of my stories was actually with Cirno, Wriggle, Rumia, and Daiyousei, 'cause they're all little and like to play... Cirno's first dare was to have Flan attack Yuka, since Cirno is always bothering Yuka for one reason or another. Yuka owned Flan, but Cirno and the gang were impressed and allowed her to "join their party".
Furthermore, Laevateinn is no longer in Flan's possession, but she has since accommodated for this in the form of a revised spellcard near the end of AEG, and the beginning of the next book. It has been revised so that instead of /using/ Laevateinn, it instead creates Laevateinn. Rather, what used to be Laevateinn. It actually makes it more convenient for her, since it allows her to stow and conjure it at will, rather than having to either bring it with her, or simply not have it. It's not really Laevateinn, just a physical projection of what she had known Laevateinn to be while Flan had been using it/her.
Remilia is still able to use Spear the Gungnir since Remilia's "Gungnir" is originally a spellcard which features energy focused into the shape of a spear, and is not a physical object. Gungnir, Laevateinn's brother, was only discovered by Odin, but after that, he was lost. The Gungnir that was held by Odin is the one who was resurrected. Yes, Marisa x Alice happened, and will be considered to be canon for the purposes of this story. MariAlice fans, do enjoy.
The MariAlice duo have in a way, adopted Flan as their sort of "love child", as Marisa puts it jokingly. Alice just kinda rolls with it because it's less stress than to argue the point. Flan adores being around them, and they both like visits from her.
After the events of AEG, It's revealed that Flan had feelings for Patchy, but the librarian wasn't having any of it, and quickly remedied the situation by becoming a strict teacher to her. Flan, in turn, constantly complains about arithmetic, and no longer has any attraction to the magic librarian.
Kitaen has become a permanent installment of the Human Village, despite being a youkai, and defends the village alongside Keine, and occasionally, Mokou... though the two constantly butt heads.
Ran and Kit, being of the same species, are also seen together frequently, and while they're constantly goaded by friends, their relationship is almost entirely platonic. Almost. There is potential. It's complicated. A lot. Sorta. Maybe. I dunno. Never really thought about it, if I'm honest.
I have several other characters that are dotted around Gensokyo, but due to the fact that MOST OF GENSOKYO IS MISSING (just so that isn't overlooked, lul.), many of these characters won't make appearances for quite some time.
Hourai and Shanghai, two of Alice's dolls, have been exposed to a test by Eirin, an attempt to recreate a modified version of the legendary elixir which bestowed immortality to Kaguya and Mokou. This modified version was a failure in a sense, in that it has no effect on beings that are already alive, but it is capable of bringing non-living things to life. Needless to say, this caused quite a ruckus for a while, but Hourai and Shanghai are now living beings, and no longer controlled by Alice, though they still stick to her side and follow her instructions to the letter. They can also speak... but very, very choppy, and with a vocabulary that might be expected of a 2-year-old, yet their intelligence is beyond what they're vocabulary allows them to emulate. They often resort to charades and drawing or writing to communicate words they can't speak yet. They're adorable. And Hourai is extremely attached to Phoebe. Shanghai is generally grumpy and non-social, while Hourai is very happy and excitable. Remilia is fond of Shanghai, but the little living doll shows no sign of the fondness being mutual... yet she'll stick around the vampire whenever she's around, and has no problem doing anything Remi asks, while she'll sometimes give Alice a hard time.
