Delia couldn't contain her happiness at this precise moment, humming a jaunty tune as she flitted from side to side. Had she feet the snake would most likely have been skipping around her grandfather then like a little child. Speaking of the older gent, Adrian was taking his time, leisurely striding through the wide halls of the Gambino Mall just behind his giddy granddaughter. A most pleased look was plastered upon his slightly aged face as he watched Cordelia in her happiness. Ah the glorious simplicities of youth.

The man stopped in front of a huge store with wall to wall display windows in which one could see straight into the store where all sorts of electronic goodies were just waiting to be bought. "Cordelia, I believe this store should suffice."

Quickly floating back the girl hung onto her grandfather's arm with the biggest smile she could muster. Eyes shining, "Hehe, I'm soooo excited Granddad! Thank you thank you thank you!"

Adrian chuckled light as he escorted the darling basilisk into the store. Her natural charm was hard to fend off sometimes and thus he often found himself completely and utterly immersed within the positiveness of it. "Well don't thank me just yet. We haven't purchased anything."

It was just him today. Or at least, just him in the electronics boutique. As usual, Jezabroux had driven him here. Except, once inside the mall, the two had separated with Luka going to find a new stereo for his bedroom and his guardian going to Moretti for some summer clothes. It wasn't new or anything, his guardian had been giving him more and more freedom lately. Of course, it was hard to say if that was because Jezabroux actually believed Luka was experienced and trustworthy enough to move around without a chaperon anymore or because the Frei had become increasingly adventurous, sneaking out on his own anyways. Probably a combination of both, Luka's growing tendency of sneaking out and coming back unharmed, free of trouble.

As he floated around the MP3 section, Luka paid no attention to the digital doorbell sound that rang through the store as more customers entered. He'd learned very early on that there were certain sounds that one could ignore depending on the location and situation. This was one of those situations.

Flicking his creme colored bangs out of his eyes, the Satyr casually floated down the aisle without looking at the newest MP3 models. That wasn't what he was here for. Speaking of which, he hadn't noticed it until now, but his hair had grown quite a bit. Before the tips would only occasionally flash around in his peripheral vision, but now, he seemed to have a white curtain constantly hanging down in front of his eyes. Flicking his bangs again, he sighed. He'd have to ask his guardian for another haircut soon. Running his fingers along the edge of the shelves, Luka made his way towards the display of stereos facing his direction on the other side of the store.

Or, he would have if he hadn't come to a sudden stop. Orbs of melted sunshine flashing in mild confusion as the Frei stared at the face of a lady two aisles over. It was a young woman accompanying an older gentleman, probably a father or grandfather. He couldn't see anything past her neck because of the shelves but it was enough to make him stop all the same.

The sudden realization that she looked familiar to him and he couldn't place why. Her strong features and that smoky makeup. Was it makeup? The onyx patches around her eyes almost looked like patches of scales or something.

Something inside him was ringing from the familiarity in her appearance.

Luka chewed lightly on the inside of his cheek in contemplation before deciding not to approach her. At least, not yet. Not until he could recall why and how she looked so familiar to him. He didn't even have the slightest inkling of what her name could be.

Reaching the stereos, Luka couldn't help but turn and stare at Cordelia once more. Maybe, just maybe, if he stared long enough then he would remember.

Several minutes passed before Luka finally looked away. He had no idea if she'd seen him staring or not. He only knew that he couldn't remember her. So, if anything, he didn't actually know her. Perhaps, he'd seen her passing once on the street and committed her strong facial features to memory. Turning his attention to the stereo in front of him, he carefully read the specs listed on the tag in front of it.

After all, he was here for a reason.

"Sony SS-F7000 4-Way Floor-Standing Speaker," Luka mumbled to himself, reading the tag out loud.

What Cordelia loved most about her grandfather was that he was a man of action. Just like her guardian would have, he boldly and confidently strolled up to the nearest store clerk and declared exactly what it was they were there for. A laptop and a cell phone? Of course this tall, blonde haired man was more than happy to show them around and explain features on the best and newest (and likely most expensive) products their store carried. Swiftly he directed them towards the laptops first, the item of greater value of course.

While Cordelia rambled on about music and what have you to the clerk, Adrian held back for the most of it. She was a big girl and knew just exactly what she'd be doing with her new computer, so he'd only interject if something off or wrong caught his ear. Honestly though from the looks of the guy, whom couldn't completely conceal his slight awareness of the snake's sharp wings, the Brit knew he wouldn't be trying much of any funny business with them.

Giving a smug look of satisfaction, Adrian's cerulean eyes slowly made their way about the store, taking in all the amazing technology it held. Miracles of science really if one were to think deeply upon it. And speaking of such, something along those lines was just out of earshot. With a certain expertise, the elder gent slink off from his group and managed to slip up next to the white haired youth as he mumbled something to himself.

Charcoal brow raised in intrigue, the man suddenly spoke up to the light Frei with an excited, yet inviting smile. "Oh that looks like a good one. You should get it."

Luka turned around sharply as he heard Adrian's voice. His sunbeam orbs eyeing the old man carefully before deeming him not to be a threat. "It is too expensive." He replied, pointing a svelte finger at the price tag of $350. "Well, not too expensive. But, I would have to ask Elai first." The Frei explained. Prior to leaving the house, he and his guardian had set a compromise of a $200 dollar limit. Anything more expensive than that would require Jezabroux's presence there to determine if the purchase would actually take place or not.

"Do you know anything about speakers?" He asked, subtly inviting Adrian to share his knowledge. "Elai helped me look up speakers before I came here, but, none of the ones I saw are here." He explained.

Something about the older gentle made him at ease, reminded him even of his own guardian's father, Nigel.

Hands clasped behind his back, Adrian rocked back and forth a bit while he listened gleefully to this very youthful looking Raevan. Compared to Cordelia the boy seemed so much younger in appearance than his granddaughter, even spoke like he was just now getting the hang of the English language. Perhaps it was just that the Frei was indeed younger than Delia or maybe it was just all the light colors that made him seem so innocent. Hell it was probably both.

"Hmmm..." The elder man rubbed his strong chin in thought. Elai must be the boy's guardian. He looked about. The Raevan looked alone for the time, but his guardian couldn't have gone too far yes? "I wish I could help, but I'm not too knowledgeable on these in the way that you might want me to be. But my granddaughter is talking with a sales associate right now, perhaps he can help you." The man smiled and gestured for the boy to follow as he walked back to Cordelia.

"Granddad?" the snake had just noticed Adrian missing from her side then and frantically looked about. It wasn't that she was so much worried about him getting lost or herself, but more so that he was the one with the credit card. Once her silver eyes fell upon him strolling back to her in that carefree walk of his, Cordelia sighed with relief. "Granddad why'd you wander off?"

Giving the floating girl a quick squeeze with one arm as some form of reassurance, "I'm sorry my dear. I saw a young lad that seemed in need of assistance, so I thought this fine salesman could help him briefly. Come come now my boy, don't be shy. This is my granddaughter Cordelia by the way."

Delia wasn't quite sure what the old Brit was up to, but something about it made her feel like she had to be suspicious somehow. Shifting her gaze to Luka, she was just about to greet the other when she saw it was another Raevan. So that's what her grandfather was up to. Sly old fox, sly. Shaking her head from the momentary surprise she'd just fallen under, the smokey girl smiled and held her hand out for a shake. "Ello, it's nice to meet you."

Luka floated behind Adrian, coming to a gentle halt as the old man introduced his guardian. Cordelia... Why did the name read so familiarly to him?

When he spotted the Basilisk frei, a gentle look of puzzlement crossed his face. He'd met this person before.... or had he? But if he hadn't, why was her face so familiar? And her name too....

"Hello Cordelia, have we met?" The Frei asked, cocking his head to the side lightly. His sunbeam eyes flickering lightly as he committed her appearance to form. "You are... like a very fuzzy dream to me. I am Luka." Yes, like a dream that was hard to remember. There, but not quite there. "I feel like I've met you before." The Satyr said with a small smile. Perhaps, they'd met a long time ago?

He couldn't help but catch another look at Cordelia's face. Something about her smoky eyes, gentle but hinting at something that remained under the surface.

"Why do you wear so much black?" Luka asked, reaching up to trace the smoky scales framing the girl's eyes. Black was a color of mourning, a dark and foreboding color.
PostPosted: Wed Aug 01, 2012 10:06 pm

"Luka? Hmmm..." The hand that hadn't been taken in greeting soon came to drum its slender digits upon the elder Frei's dark lips as she scoured her mind for memories. Suddenly those silver eyes lit up with recognition as she snapped her fingers. "Oh right! I remember you! You're that little guy that got lost in the mall during Christmas!" She beamed realizing his speech was much better than last they'd met. Time sure did fly it seemed. "It's good to see you again. Sure hope you're not lost this time too." She chuckled.

Her laughter came to a halt as the boy leaned in to trace a finger along the scales on her face. It surprised her because although she was frequently invading the personal space of others, it was pretty rare for anyone other than close friends and family to be so bold as to do just what the little satyr was then. Cordelia hadn't really minded, that was until the boy rudely asked what he did. What was wrong with wearing lots of black? Besides it's not like she had a choice, that's just how she came out of the tank.

With a huff, the snake pushed aside Luka's hand from her face. "Well why do you wear so much white?" she snapped back, folding her arms across her half formed chest.

"Cordelia Shade!" Adrian reprimanded. It was rare for her grandfather to be angry towards her, but he knew Ebony had raised her better.

Still she felt she was in the right. "But Granddad he..." Seeing the stern look he was giving her then she knew if she ever wanted that computer and phone, she'd better swallow her pride and behave. With a sigh of defeat, "Fine...sorry Luka. That was rude. I know you didn't mean anything by your comment. Please accept my apology."

"I'm sorry. I didn't mean to make you angry. I've just never seen a lot of people wear so much black. I thought it was a bad thing." He gave a slight shrug, not quite bothered by her comment. Perhaps, if she'd made the comment at a younger version of himself, he may have snapped something back.

"But no, I am not lost today. I am looking for a speaker."

The cheerful expression has ebbed from his face, replaced by a suddenly bored and monotonous one. Cordelia's snapping had throw him in a slight mood, and though she had apologized, it was something that wouldn't pass quickly. It wasn't the girl's fault. It was his own, but certainly, no one liked to be snapped at. "What are you here to get?" He asked, floating to touch the laptop on display beside him.

"A laptop? Elai has one of these. His is older though, still works well enough. He has a desktop too, but that one is at his work." He rambled, not quite caring if the Basilisk or her grandfather was listening. In a way, he suddenly found himself wanting to leave the store and return home. Whatever excitement he'd felt at getting a stereo system had passed quickly. "I think computers and tvs are boring." the Satyr mused. "There is nothing more exciting than being outside. You can listen to the trees whisper and even the hears of animals speak to you. Not like staring at a bright screen all day. I don't know how Elai does it. Doesn't it hurt your eyes, Cordelia?" The Satyr asked, turning to face the basilisk once more.

Just as Luka's ire was not quick to dissolve, so was Cordelia's. It was rare for anyone to actually offend the smokey girl, yet when it happened sometimes it wasn't easy for her to bounce right back immediately. But he did apologize and explain, plus she had to remember he was younger than her and most likely didn't have as strict of guardians as hers when it came to social etiquette and tact.

As she listened to the boy drone on, only half listening now since she too was sort of in a funk cause of what the younger Frei had said, Cordelia sort of wished he grandfather hadn't gone and sought out Luka now. Part of her wanted to leave now, but...a greater part of her wanted that computer and phone. And she would have it damnit! No fluffly haired Raevan was going to ruin her gift day!

Smiling slyly at Adrian, who was busy chatting with the salesman now (something that urked her greatly since she'd rather be the one talking to the guy now since it was her that was going to be using the stuff), the snake replied, "I actually don't get to use the computer or telly that much because my woman doesn't want my brains to rot or something to that nature. But luckily I have a wonderful grandfather who's completely understanding to how important it is for youths nowadays to have proper knowledge of current technology."

Cordelia's mood seemed to be improving now as she thought about all the interesting things she'd be able to learn about the world when she'd be able to access it whenever she wanted just at the click of a button. She actually beamed brightly at her grandfather then, grateful to have him in her life. It was easily assumed that Delia was quickly becoming a granddaddy's girl.

"So, if you don't like computers or the telly..." Cordelia began, her mood improved enough to engage the other in more conversation still. "...what is it that you do like? Well besides nature and all that."

Luka paused, his head tilting ever so slightly to the side as he pondered Cordelia’s question. ”I like… I like sound. Like stereos, CD players and instruments. And, cameras, too.” He had the sense he wasn’t make much sense. ”I like being able to hear the sound of the rolling waves on the beach even when I’m not at the beach. I like being able to wake up to the sound of someone playing the piano even if they’re not there in the room with me.” Digging around in his pocket, the Satyr pulled out the iPod touch his guardian had let him use. ”There is classical music its wonderful piano, and folk music. Folk music makes me feel at home, like I am in a forest.” The boy’s voice got soft. It was clear even the Satyr did not understand his strong attraction for music, and how or why he felt so drawn to wooded areas.

”Cameras are fun too. Have you had a camera before Cordelia? Leo showed me his. It is a very interesting machine. It lets you capture time and memories.” As if to explain his point, he unlocked his iPod and loaded the Photos app. Scrolling through them, he came upon several photos of him and his guardian making silly faces. He held it out for Cordelia to see. ”I like it. It means, I will not forget the things I do.” Smiling, he put the iPod back in his pocket.

”Do you play music and instruments Cordelia?” The Satyr asked. ”I can play the piano. Jezabroux was teaching me before, but now, I can play things after hearing them. I want to play other instruments too. Something…. Airier.” He said, a light smile on his face.

The more he talked about music, the more quickly his mood improved. He was already starting to forget his mild irritation toward Cordelia. Something about music always seemed to lift his soul and fill it with warmth.
PostPosted: Sat Aug 11, 2012 5:20 pm

He liked sound? Music specifically. Sound wasn't something she cared for much honestly though because some of it was annoying, but music she could completely understand and relate to. Though the sound stuff made her think of Basil. He seemed to enjoy being around lots of sound. The more noise the better he looked in her opinion. It was odd, perhaps it had something to do with his essence? Now she wondered if Luka held a similar essence himself. She couldn't really recall all that much from the last time they had met, then again the satyr was still pretty young and barely able to speak well then. He'd met Basil then too, so maybe if the two got together again they'd be able to be good friends. As soon as Delia had the idea, she knew she wasn't sure how she felt about it since Luka and her had a bit of a rough patch just now. Still she shouldn't get in the way of the cobra from making friends if he could. And it wasn't like she actually hated Luka or anything.

Cordelia gave a warm smile when the boy showed her some photos on his iPod. It reminded her of Riven, though the scorpion hadn't been quite as attached to his camera as of late. Still she remembered him saying how he liked to keep memories of his friends and family, so every once in awhile his shutterbug nature would resurface and she'd find a lens in her face. Perhaps Luka was not so bad after all.

"I like music a lot too. My guardian and granddad both play the piano and I play the violin. So I'm no stranger to classical, yet I rather enjoy genres that are a bit more edgier. Rock, pop, etcetera." Cordelia had thought once she got better at the violin that she might try her hand at some other instrument that allowed her to get more into those sorts of genres. The guitar perhaps?

"Cordelia." The girl looked at her grandfather when he addressed her. Smiling, "As great as it is that you and Luka seem to be getting along well, I'm afraid we can't keep being too rude towards this young gentleman here." The British man gestured to the sales associate of whom he'd been chatting with about the basilisk's choice in computers at length while the two Raevans had been immersed in conversation.

"Oh right, sorry. Excuse me please." Delia said to Luka before floating off to discuss with the associate about the kind of phone she'd like to purchase along with the computer she wanted, leaving the boy with Adrian once more.

"So, I heard you say something about playing something other than the piano? What instrument were you thinking of?" the elder man asked the satyr.

Luka nodded as Cordelia went on about her favorite types of genres. Unlike her, he abhorred those genres. But, who was he to rain on her preference in music? After all, even his guardian secretly loved classic rock.

When Adrian called for Cordelia to speak to the sale associate, he found himself in the company of the older man once more. When the elder asked his question, Luka shrugged. "It's hard to pick. I like the sound of wind, when it is dancing through the tree tops. Or, how it sounds when it dances with the waves in Gambino. I want to play something that makes me think of the wind." The boy explained. "Do you ever listen to life?" The youth asked, looking at Adrian in the eyes. It was a sudden question, but a good one.

"Do you ever sit down and listen to the grass whistle as the trees thrum out a deep rumble in their bass voice? And how the birds will sing to that melody? And maybe sometimes, you can even hear the ground give off a note or two of its own." It had occurred to the Frei some time ago, that he was the only one who listened. Not Elai, not his grandfather had heard those sounds. Nor, did they look for them either. But, perhaps, this man did. Perhaps, he would be able to understand what the Satyr was looking for. "I do. Because, that is the only real source of music that will put me to sleep. Did you know? When the forest sing for you, it is like listening to a choir. It's even better than the ones in those churches. The songs they sing are old ones, older than you or I, or any of the buildings here."

"That's why I need a stereo. So I can always listen to those sounds. Even when I'm in my room, I will be able to hear the forest's hymn." He gave Adrian a beaming smile before changing the conversation.

"Are you Cordelia's grandfather like Nigel is mine? Even though, I am not Elai's real son. Nigel still calls me grandchild. Is that what you are to Cordelia?" Even now, he still had a hard time understanding familial interactions and relationships. "Why does Nigel call me his child when we are not blood related? Elai does not call me son, but Nigel. Nigel always calls me his grandchild." The Frei explained. He wasn't upset that Elai didn't call him son. Certainly, their relationship didn't feel like that. If anything, he always saw his guardian as a mentor. The father and son relationships depicted in movies and stories, they were not accurate depictions of his with Jezabroux. So, it made sense that the two did not refer to one another as father and son. But, why was it that Nigel still called him his grandchild?
PostPosted: Sun Aug 12, 2012 3:16 pm

Adrian's blue eyes widened a bit as the white haired boy rambled on quickly. It was like the first time he and Cordelia had truly spoken with one another after he'd moved in. At that time, the elder man had been somewhat lost in the basilisk's whirlwind of words, but luckily after some time he'd come to get use to it. Of course she'd also calmed down enough to not bombard him with every thought that suddenly popped into her little black head as well. Yet he should feel thankful for having that experience since it made it easier to keep up with Luka now.

Clapping a hand on the boy's shoulder, the man gave a gentle smile. "Well Luka, when humans get to be my age and have had somewhat a chaotic of a life as I have, we tend to seek out peace within ourselves and our surroundings. We may not be able to hear exactly what it is that you do, but we can sense it." For a moment, Adrian's eyes seemed so far away, like he was looking at something in the past, or perhaps to the future. It was gone as quickly as it had come and he continued, "You should try a woodwind instrument. Like a flute or piccolo. May be hard on your lungs at first since you're not fully developed yet, but with practice your stamina and endurance should increase."

When the conversation changed, Adrian took a moment to collect a good answer. Rubbing his chin in thought, "Yes and no. Cordelia's actual guardian, my daughter Ebony, is not actually my blood relation. I adopted her when she was very young and then Ebony did the same with Cordelia. Though they don't call one another mother or daughter, the relationship between them isn't really any different from ones who are of blood relation. And neither is mine to either of them. Our bond as a family is just as strong as those of blood. Maybe even stronger." The man shrugged at this last bit as it was all subjective of course, but he liked to believe that the girls felt just the same as he.

Luka was quiet as he listened to Adrian, only to speak again when the older gentleman suggested a flue or a piccolo. "A flute is too refined, and a piccolo is too... high." His guardian had suggested to him before, and the Frei had decided that those were not the ones he'd been looking for as soon as he'd watched a few videos on youtube. "Maybe... the bassoon or panpipes." The Raevan said with a shrug. When the Frei had suggested panpipes to his guardian, the man had bust out laughing. Something, Luka found to be quite off-putting. Was it because his guardian didn't think he could do well on a panpipe? Or was it because the image of Luka playing a panpipe was too funny?

"Why did you adopt? I don't understand why people adopt. Why do you need to adopt when you can just take someone as family? Is it a ceremony?" The Frei asked, brows lightly furrowed. To him, it was a stupid process, this adoption thing. If you wanted someone as family, you just took them in.

"If I want someone to be my family, do I need to adopt them? Why can't I just... take them in? Isn't that what animals do? They just take others in?"
