Name:
Celandine
Age: 26
Gender: Female
Sexual Orientation: Heterosexual
Craft/Rank: Journeyman Wherhandler
History:
Despite being a Weyrbrat, Celandine was never a Candidate, though she very much wanted to be one. She was always a sickly child, however, frail and unfit to Stand, and could only watch from the sidelines while others her age prepared for a life with dragons and some eventually found their partners. She pined after the magnificent creatures for turns, attending every Hatching as a spectator and hoping against hope to be chosen from the Stands, but her wistful dreams proved fruitless. At 17 turns, after a heart-to-heart with her concerned foster mother, she came reluctantly to the realization that it was time to move on and choose a path in life.

Rather than give up completely, though, she turned to Wherhandling. A wher wouldn't refuse her just because she took ill easily, or wasn't physically strong. Still, while she excelled in lessons, devoted to making her new dream come true, she simply wasn't as physically able as other apprentices, and was denied an egg for turns. Celandine was 22 before she reviewed well enough - but only barely - to be allowed to choose an egg. Her new partner was a strong young brown named Celsk, and together they assumed the duties of watch-wher and handler.

After four turns of partnership, they went as part of a group of three pairs to hunt down a feral wher. Thngs didn't go as intended, however, as the one wher they expected turned out to be two whers. The second took the humans by surprise while their whers fought the first - Celandine and one handler were injured, while the third was killed, before their whers were able to kill both the ferals. Celsk later died from his wounds, and Celandine's left leg was badly mangled. Healers managed to save the limb, but she now walks with a pronounced limp.

As she's gotten older, and also partly because of the increase in physical activity, Celandine is significantly stronger than she was as a child. She's still below average, and she'll catch pretty much anything that comes her way, but she's not as weak as she once was.

Description:
5'3" and very slight of build, with a pale complexion. Long, unruly wavy red hair, and blue eyes. She's a very delicate type of pretty, probably too delicate for some tastes.

Personality:
While naturally quiet of voice, Celandine herself has grown to be anything but. Where she once sat passively on the sidelines and watched others live, she has long since decided that that is hardly a life at all. She speaks her mind - albeit tactfully - and if she wants to do something, she'll do it! Or try to, anyway. She doesn't always succeed, and sometimes she gets hurt in the process, but her occasional failures rarely bother her for long. She's fully embraced the idea that it's always better to try and fail than not try at all, and she's learned to enjoy the effort regardless of the goal.

She is intensely curious, and can easily be distracted from the task at hand if something truly intriguing catches her attention, which can obviously work against her. It's not usually a good thing for a wherhandler to wander away from her post or patrol! On the flipside, she is often one of the first to notice that something is strange or amiss, and won't hesitate to investigate. A strange noise in the tunnels? She's on it!

Fun-loving and a bit mischievous, she has a childish streak a mile wide, and loves games of every kind. From gambling on cards to playing pretend with young Weyrbrats, if she's not working, Celandine is looking for something fun to do. She is also childish in less endearing ways, though, having to some extent grown used to being coddled. She expects others to treat her gently and help her, and to indulge her little whims; she's gotten very good at getting others to take pity on her and do what she wants, and will sometimes play herself up to be more delicate than she truly is. When someone doesn't buy into it, she finds it very vexing, and if they're especially callous with her, she may even throw a little tantrum.

Assuming you're nice to her, Celandine will be nice to you, and has plenty of charm and sweet smiles to go around. She is incredibly affectionate, craving the company and attention of others, and is more than happy to give back the same. Ignore her, though, or don't pay enough attention, and a snit is probably in the near future. She's especially jealous of male attention, and will compete with other women for the attention of men - if she 'loses,' well, she can be very catty.

Other: She is currently wherless, obviously.
