Sparrow was up with the sun. He was going to met Kerensa at her house soon. But he wanted to be different... Not by much though. He's been attempting flight all day. He tried watching the birds but not even they seemed to be helping. Despite wanting to try more he shook himself off and headed toward Kerensa's apartment with a slight limb, crash landings came with a price.

Kerensa was wondering what to prepare for lunch. She'd been excited all morning about the previous day's events, dashing about the house to make sure things were ready for Sparrow's visit. It wasn't a large place, but there was still plenty of cleaning up to take care of, since she lived by herself. Nearly finished with her cleaning, Kerensa stopped briefly and was about to make some food, when she realized she didn't know what kind of meal to cook. She hadn't asked Sparrow what he liked to eat! She had just decided to make some soup, when she thought she heard a knock at the door. Could that be him? Kerensa wondered. "Coming!" she called out, heading to the door. "Who is it? Is that you, Sparrow?" she asked through the door, which was still closed out of habit. Hopefully it wasn't just another neighborhood kid playing a prank.

"It's me... Sparrow." He smiled as though she could see him through the door. Along the way he had picked up a small box of sweets and sunflowers. He thought roses were over done, and he thought sunflowers would suite her.

"Okay! Hold on and I'll let you in. Just wanted to make sure it wasn't some of the neighborhood pranksters." Kerensa unlatched and opened the door, smiling brightly when she saw Sparrow standing there. "Come on in! I was just about to make some soup for lunch. Is there any particular kind you'd like? I'm partial to a cheese and potato soup myself. I call it Easy Cheesy Potato Soup" she noted with a laugh.

"Easy Cheesy Potato Soup... Sound delicious.'' He smiled, he had only had soup a couple of times. He remembered the things he brought too. "Oh! For you." He handed over the Sunflowers and the box of sweets. "Do you need any help in the kitchen?" He smiled, he wanted to help.

"Oh, how pretty! Sunflowers!" Kerensa exclaimed, her eyes shining with delight. "Thank you for such lovely gifts." Taking the flowers gently to avoid damaging the stems, she placed them in a decorative vase which she then filled with water. She then placed the vase on a small table in front of a futon which served as both the bed and couch of her apartment. "And of course you can help! Here, let me get the recipe and things out first." Kerensa pulled out a recipe card from the E section of a file container. "Let's see... We need a pot, and something to measure with... Oh, and a mixing spoon... And then there are the ingredients." When she'd gathered all the materials for the soup and laid them out on the kitchen table, she asked Sparrow, "Have you ever made this soup before? Even if not, we can work together so you can learn the recipe. It's not a hard one to make, even if it can be a little messy to prepare."

Sparrow looked about the kitchen. He hadn't been in a kitchen since he had lived with his mom. He looked at all the things she had laid out. "I've never made soup before. What do you want me to do first?" He looked eager, he didn't want to make a mistake so he listened closely.

Looking at the recipe, Kerensa replied "We have to bake the potatoes. They go in the microwave for, hmmmm... let me think. We have 6 potatoes, so since that's 1 minutes for each potato, 6 minutes should do it. But first we need to poke holes in them to make sure the steam from cooking escapes properly. Otherwise they won't cook evenly." Demonstrating, she picked up a fork, and began to poke holes in two of the potatoes. When finished, she laid the potatoes on a plate and placed it in the microwave, setting the time for two minutes. "While those two cook, we can start with the others."

Sparrow nodded and took a fork and stabbed it into the potato. When he tried pulling it out the fork wouldn't budge. He kept trying to pull it out, he yanked for all he was worth and was able to pull it out, but the force of the pull landed him on the floor. He blinked and looked up. He got up and set the potato down, acting like it never happened.

Kerensa giggled a bit at Sparrow's enthusiasm and noted, "You don't need to stab the potatoes so hard. Just enough to poke the fork into them is fine. I'll need to start a butter and flour mixture going in a pan on the stove, but I'm going to do that after the potatoes are baked and peeled." The two minute timer then began to beep on the microwave. "Oh, the first two are done baking. They'll be hot though, so I'd let them sit for a bit to cool down. "

He knew how to peel potato and knew a trick, he washed his paws, and claws, then stuck it into potato and started peeling. "I have a feeling this is going to be really good." He finished the first one, then resumed to the second one. "Aren't you supposed to peel, and then cook?"

Kerensa smiled at Sparrow and responded to his question, "Usually potatoes are peeled before cooking, but this is how I've learned to do it for soup. And yes! It should be very good. I liked this soup from the very first time I made it, and that was my first time ever cooking a soup from scratch." Kerensa finished poking the holes in the other potatoes, and once they were done in the microwave, she gave them over to Sparrow to peel. "While you finish these, I'll get started on the butter and flour." Grabbing the soup pot from the things she'd gathered for cooking, she then began to combine the butter and flour into a mixture, stirring it carefully with a whisk.

Sparrow nodded and peeled the rest of the the taters. He checked the recipe and started to cut them into chunks. He didn't want to cut in silence so he started making small talk. "So... Did you get home ok last night?" Obviously she did, and he felt instantly stupid for asking.

"Yes, thanks for asking. Was a bit of a walk, but I like nighttime more than the day at times. It was wonderful to be able to look at the stars in the park without all the streetlights blocking my view like they do here. I was even able to identify a few constellations." While she let the mixture in the pot simmer for a bit, Kerensa microwaved a few strips of bacon which she would add to the soup when it was almost finished. "How was your morning? I meant to ask when you came in, but then I remembered the soup" she noted with a smile. "Speaking of the soup, the last part is to add the potato chunks, some salt and pepper, cheese, and then crumble in some bacon pieces. So it looks we're just about done. Once we combine the rest, I'll stir it a bit more, then we can add the sour cream and it should be ready."

"My morning was decent. Our bird woke me up." He wasn't sure if he should tell her about her flying lessons right away. He wanted to surprise her, hopefully she won't noticed the bruises on his rump. He heard the faint tweet of the mocking bird. "It seems he followed me here too." He nodded toward the window with a smile.
