Every since he had been cooped up in his room, Calder was now spending more and more time outside. After a while, he almost felt he was patrolling, guarding the school by navigating the area around it. It was nice. It made him feel useful. It helped keep him tired at the end of the day and sleeping deeply when he could. The strain of insomnia was going away, and the nightmares were becoming farther between.That wasn't to say he didn't worry. When things grew quiet, he thought of the 'what if's and the 'maybe's that may or might not ever happen.
It was the simple moments that helped the days pass.
Like now. He sat under the shade of a tree in the woods, sitting in the grass with a cloth open with two brushes and a few barrettes. He had gathered some flowers but was debating putting them in his hair. For now, he was combing his hair and wondering what to do with it.

Pich wandered through the forest that separated the reserve from the school of their benefactors, in search of fruit or other edibles. He was grateful for the aide, though it rankled to see his great people so humbled. That indignity he laid solely on the Hunters, where it belonged. The students had fought hard against the villains, outclassed though they were. Unlike some of his fellow clansmen, Pich had no doubt that they had nothing to do with the attack. He paused, hearing an odd noise off to his right. As he crept closer, he spied a pale form that stood out against the browns and greens of the forest around it. It was humanoid, but had two pointy, furred ears peaking from the top of it's head. Closer inspection revealed that it's legs ended in hooves instead of standard feet, and he though he saw a horse's tail peeking from under it. When the students had visited, he'd caught glimpses of some with animal-like traits, but this was his first close look. Intrigued, he stepped out of his concealed spot, making a noise somewhere between a cough and a small bark to get the other's attention.

Ears up, Calder turned in the mist of trying to divide his hair and managed to let them all tumble against his back and shoulders as he looked out to the stranger. Strangers in the woods generally had him alarmed, and he was sitting, which meant it was harder to dash off.
Eyes narrowing, he regarded the stranger, but courtesy finally had him asking. "Hello." It was a nice day to be in the woods, but if this stranger caused trouble, he'd give it back.

"Er, hi." Pich mumbled softly. Now that he had the other's attention, he wasn't so sure this was a good idea. He'd somehow forgotten that interaction would most likely involve actual conversation. He shuffled his feet, scale-mail tinkling softly with the movement.

Calder, however, was great at leading a conversation. Considering he had a boilfriend who was a sloth demon who sometimes barely uttered a word and then a Igor who - well, couldn't talk and didn't like to, Calder was skilled in being the main talker.
Smiling, he waited for any signs of hostility, but seeing none, he turned and adjusted his sitting arrangement to be turned more towards the boil.
"Nice day for a walk. I haven't seen you around. Are you a new student? I'm Calder." He offered his hand even though they were farther off, and then pulled it away. "Oh. Sorry. Forgot that's dangerous." Barth had been warning him about that constantly.

Pich tilted his head slightly to one side. "Dangerous? A handshake is a sign of peace, showing that one is not holding a weapon. Though I suppose if the weapon is a part of one's body..." he shrugged, trailing off as he ran out of useful things to say. He stepped closer and offered his own hand, tilting his head to the other side. The student was boy - boils, they called them here - and seemed friendly enough. And then there were those intriguing horse-like features. With the exception of the wings most common among the War Clan, he'd not seen many with such varied body confirmations until the students had visited the isle, and he was curious.
"I am Pich." he introduced himself.

Calder rose, but looked at the hand. "Sorry, but my boilfriend is a demon, and he doesn't like when I shake hands. That's how contracts are made, and I sorta told him I'd be a lot more careful." He didn't want to be a liar. "You should worry too. There are demons here. A lot of them are nice. not saying they aren't, but ...well, you should be careful." Yes, it was good to warn others about dangerous hand shaking.
Thinking it over, he opened both his arms. "I can hug? That shows that I don't have a weapon. Are you okay with that, Pinch?" Then he thought of something else and made his hand into a fist. "I've seen some boils in the hallways touch fists. We can try that?"

"Oh." Pich blinked, slightly embarrassed at his lack of knowledge. "I will be careful then, thank you." He curled his extended hand into a fist as well, but then just sort of held it out since he wasn't sure how they were supposed to touch, he didn't want to inadvertently do something else wrong. Interacting with different cultures was more complicated even than he'd expected.

Calder wasn't sure how fist bumping worked either, and went over to tap his knuckle against the boil's fist before looking at their hands. "Hmm. The other boils seemed to really like this hand bumping, but I don't get it." He shrugged it off before smiling. "I didn't know about the hand shaking until a demon told me. Marking is really easy." He knew.
"Where are you off to, Pich?"

Pich chuckled softly, the shared awkwardness actually causing him to relax slightly. "Nor do I. A handshake seems much more straightforward, it is too bad that has been turned to less amicable uses." He would have to look into this handshake-to-form-a-contract thing further, and warn his clan-members, if they were not already aware. "No where in particular. I was searching for supplies, mostly. There never seems to be enough to do what needs to be done, so I try to gather more when I have the time."
