User Image - Blocked by "Display Image" Settings. Click to show.Isis had decided to leave the safety of her home at the edges of the mountains, and move further south toward the ocean. She was uncomfortable with all the chaos near her home, and wanted a more peaceful life. One that might just include a mate, and children. So she had come south, as she had heard that the water pack, which called this area home, were kind and inviting. She had yet to meet any Voronwe in her travel south, but she was sure that if she spent some time around the beautiful lake she had just found, sooner or later, they would come to drink from it's pristine water.

User Image - Blocked by "Display Image" Settings. Click to show.Chester had been hunting in the forest for something to tide him over until the morning, and all he had found was a small squirrel. He wasn't foolish enough to kill a Lagos, and risk the wrath of the goddess, but there were certainly enough of them skittering around the forest floor. He was planning to stop at the lake on his way back to his home in a well, secluded cave and fill his stomach with enough water to stave off the hunger pains he knew would come during the night. As he neared the eastern edge of the lake, he saw a flash of white across the water. A Voronwe! And one he had not seen before at the lake. He wondered where it was she had come from, for it was indeed a female. Her wings looked as though they had touched a rainbow, and she had stripes along her back to rival the spots on his own tail. He hadn't been graced by the goddess with wings, but she had compensated him with claws as sharp as knives. He was strong and he was fast, and he decided to show this lovely vision just how fast and strong he was.

Isis looked up at the sound of something moving amid the rushes at the edge of the lake. Whatever it was, it was headed in her general direction, and it was moving fast. Seeing a large rock protruding above the surface of the calm lake, and knowing her wings would only lift her so far, she quickly pumped her wings, and lifted herself out over the water and onto the surface of the rock. It was just barely large enough for her to stand on comfortably, but she was now far enough from the bank, that whatever appeared from the rushes, it would have a harder time reaching her. She sat down, her tail swishing in the cool water behind her, and watched the tall reeds. She thought she saw flashes of gold, and a purple tail, but it wasn't until the male emerged completely from the reeds, exactly where she had sat but a moment earlier, that she realized she was correct in what she had seen.

He was wingless, but she didn't hold that against him. She assumed that the goddess had endowed him with other qualities besides flight. His tail was held high in the air behind him as he searched the shore for - her? She assumed it was her he was searching for. It didn't seem to occur to him to look out into the middle of the lake. Not wanting to tease him unnecessarily, she cleared her throat loudly enough to draw his attention. "Hello. Were you looking for me?" she said in a teasing voice.

He emerged from the tall reeds exactly where he anticipated her to be, but what was this? She was gone! There was no way she could have moved so quickly. No one was as quick as he was, let alone a female. He turned this way and that, searching the ground for some sign of where she had disappeared to. How could he have let her slip away so easily? He was beginning to get angry with himself, as he realized that the noise he had made, coming through the rushes, had probably scared her. Why hadn't he simply called out to her from across the lake?

He heard her then, clearing her throat, and turned at the sound of her voice. There she was, sitting on a large boulder out in the water. She looked beautiful as the sun shone down upon her. He felt the first faint stirring inside as he stood there staring at her. He realized he had not answered her question, and instead had simply been standing there like a Lagos, afraid to move at the sight of one as ferocious as he. "Why yes, I was indeed looking for you. I saw you from across the lake, and thought I would introduce myself. Did I frighten you? Is that why you're out there?"

"Frightened? Me? Do I look frightened?" She gave a little laugh and continued. "No, I was merely getting out of the way. Since I did not know what was hurtling toward me through the rushes, I did not wish to be trampled. Why were you coming toward me so quickly? Were you hoping to surprise me?" She smiled at him, amused at how he had stood there staring at her, unable it seemed to speak at first. She had that effect on many of the males back home, and she had hoped to escape it down here, but it seemed that she was cursed with it no matter where she went. She had slapped the surface of the lake with her tail, snapping him out of his trance-like state.

This was a smart one! He liked smart females, which made her all the more appealing to him. "You have found me out pretty lady. I was indeed attempting to surprise you, but with my speed. You however, turned the log on me, and surprised me with your own. My name is Chester. Would you do me the honor of coming back to solid ground, and talk with me? I would very much like to know where you are from, and what it is you are doing in our forest." He moved back away from where she had previously been sitting, and sat down himself, so as not to seem intimidating. Would she come ashore? He certainly hoped so. His heart was beating furiously in his chest, and he was having a very difficult time sitting still. Everything in him wanted him to jump up and down like a silly kit, chasing a butterfly.

She rose to her feet, and used her wings to make the short hop back to land. She came down in front of him, making sure she could once again, return to the rock if he attempted to attack her. He didn't seem intent on doing that, but one could never be too sure. Not all of her kind were of a good nature.

"Greetings Chester, my name is Isis. I am pleased to make your acquaintance." She used the formal greeting that she had been taught by her mother, when addressing a strange male. The more she examined him, the more she found to like about his looks. He was different from other males she had known. "I come from the north," she said. "My home was in the Inma Mountains, but I have grown tired of life up there, and decided to head south. Does this lake have a name?"

Isis, a beautiful name for a beautiful lady, he thought to himself. So, she was from the mountain region. He'd heard tales of those who called that place their home. How someone as beautiful and seemingly gentle as she could have come from there, he couldn't fathom.

"Yes, it does. We are in the Valley Lake region, and so the lake takes it name from that. Over there is Valley Meadow, and my home is in the forest just to the north of the meadow. I like to stay on this side of the river, as there are less humans over here. Most of them live on the other side, clustered together in their houses made of wood. Have you ever seen one of them?" Personally, he had only ever seen them from across the river, from the safety of the trees. He didn't particularly trust them, and had decided long ago that it was better to stay safe, than risk danger.

Humans? She'd never heard of a creature called by that name, and when he indicated where his home was, she wondered if he lived in a cave somewhere in the forest. Her own home had been in a cave, shared with her parents and siblings.

"No, I have never seen these creatures. What exactly do they look like? Did the goddess create them?" She thought that if she had, then they would have certainly have known about them in her mountain home. She was intrigued now, and wanted Chester to divulge as much as he could about them.

Chester was not really surprised that Isis had never seen a human, or even knew what they were. Very few of them would be able to handle the harsh weather of the mountains from whence she came. "They are four-legged creatures that walk upright on their hind legs, and use their front legs to hold on to things. Actually, it seems very useful if you were ask me. However, it does give them an advantage over us. They are able to wield weapons that can be used to hurt us and other creatures like the Lagos. But the goddess gave us sharp claws, which the humans do not have." At this, he stretched our his own claws in a display of manhood. "There is a rather large group of them that lives across the river not far from here. If we wait long enough in the safety of the trees along the bank, I am sure you will see one." He hoped she would not take offense at his overtly blatant attempt to accompany her to the river. She probably didn't know how to get there anyway, so it was only natural that he would offer to show her the way.

"Creatures that walk on two legs?" she said, "I have never heard of such a thing. I would very much like to see one of these creatures. Do you think you could show me this place near the river, where I might hide, and have a chance of seeing them? I would be very grateful." She was truly intrigued by what Chester had told her, but she had another reason for asking him to guide her. She was beginning to find this male very appealing, and wanted to spend as much time with him as possible. If he were willing to show her to the river, then it was just possible he might be interested in her as well.

It worked, he thought to himself. She really was a beautiful female, and he couldn't bear the thought of her leaving so soon. "Of course I can show you. It's not very far, and we can get to know one another better on the way." He headed off towards the trees on the east side of the lake. As he had promised her, they were soon at the edge of the tree line, looking out over the river. The sun was still high above them, so it was a good chance that at least one of the humans would find its way down to the river for some reason. "We'd better stay here. If we go out into the open, they are likely to see us. I have not known of any of our kind being harmed by them, but I am not willing to risk your life."

He was concerned for her well being. She felt a wave of something flow through her when he made that statement. No one had ever been concerned with well being, not since her parents had died. Perhaps this Chester was someone she should consider mating with. He was certainly strong enough to protect her, and he seemed to know his way around the lake region, which was where she wanted to live anyway. So she decided she would follow his instructions, and see what would become of their friendship.

"Very well Chester," she said, "I will follow your lead in this, as you seem to know more about these creatures than I do. How long do you think we will have to wait?"
PostPosted: Tue Jun 05, 2012 5:15 am

They didn't have to wait long at all, for no sooner did he begin to answer her question, than two of the humans, a female and a male, came down to the river along the path. He quickly instructed Isis to get down into the bushes, so they would not be seen.

Isis immediately dropped to the ground, peering through the bushes at where Chester indicated. Sure enough, coming down to the river were two creatures, the likes of which she had never seen before. The did indeed walk upright on their hind legs, and their legs were exceptionally long, compared to the two that swung at their sides, which were much shorter. One seemed to be watching their surroundings, as he turned his head from side to side, constantly on watch. The other carried something in its upper limbs, and when it reached the riverbank, dipped it into the water. Shortly thereafter, they both turned and walked back the way they had come. Isis was entranced throughout the whole affair, and was bristling with questions for Chester. When they could no longer be seen, she sat up and all of her questions overflowed from her mouth.

"That was amazing! Do you think they were a mated pair? Was one of them a male? What was the thing the other put in the river? Where do they live? Are they dangerous?"
