Okay, so...why did she have to die at the end of that game every time she played it? Should she have been doing something different?
Should she have been waiting on actual real life moon phases or what was even? She had a moon, but his phases were 'cuddle' 'sex' 'protect' and 'right in the feels' as far as she knew. Those didn't really help her in a game. She also wouldn't always have that kind of time to invest.
Sigh.
Still, it was what was on her mind when she was wanting a quick spar to see if she was keeping herself up to snuff while they were still living in barracks. Sigh, barracks. Which was probably why Robert came to mind as who would be someone she hadn't had a spar with before.Quote: Tweet to Robert: Your game was fun. Spar with me on the training grounds?

He had been a little sad that the game had a bug, but when Robert had gone over the specs, he realized what the problem was. It wasn't really a bug, but he still wanted to try to find a way around it.. Twitter was the real problem, not the game. Who cares if the timestamps didn't match up with you, Twitter! Stop being such a b***h.
These were the exact words he'd yelled at the screen a minute before receiving the text, and storming out of the Life Labs in a huff, glad to have something to get his mind off the issue.
Plus, there was a teeny part of him that was happy Cass wanted to do something with him. For like, a brief second, he had thought she wanted to do a run with him. But it was a mistake, and it made him think about how many people he worked with that didn't even really think of him as a friend. Like he wasn't worth the time to get to know. Maybe he wasn't. He sure thought that, most days. But this was.. like.. one of Petra's best friends. She'd even been at their wedding. It had just made him feel a little sad.
Then again, a lot of things made him sad, nowadays.
But he was all smiles when he reached the sparring field, and he hopped over, bowing politely once he'd reached her. "My lady, soon to be a Mrs., I hear you're looking for a punching bag." He patted his stomach cheerfully. "I'm always available. Just don't tell Petra~"

Cass grinned as Robert bowed. It was a silly gesture, but somehow it seemed to her as though she'd done something similar recently. She grabbed the sides of her coat and actually curtsied back at him, smiling the entire time. After all, a little bit of play was good.
"Punching bag? Not really, if I wanted that I would have just used one of the training dummies. They're not half as fun or near as interesting as good company is." Cass replied, laughing. "Oh, I would never snitch on you to Petra." she added.
Petra, the other half of Team Texas Ranger - soon to be harder to get the reference on, unfortunately. "But if that was an invitation to harass you at random hours of the day, don't think I won't hit you up for it." she added as she fussed at the chain around her waist, snapping one of the links to summon her weapon.
"But I'm glad you were up for a bit of playtime."

"Are you kidding me" Robert hooted out in amusement, as he plucked the coin from his pocket and flipped Jezebel in the air. "I love being harassed by pretty ladies at all hours of the day! Really, that's why I joined Deus." His hand reached out and snatched the spinning blade out of the air before it could fall, after she'd stretched out to her full length and solidified. "I mean, really, even you gotta admit. H and Cael have good taste."
He snickered and widened his stance, taking a defensive position. "Glad you think I'm better company than a training dummy. I know a few people who'd disagree." He winked, and gestured with the tip of his batleth for her to attack. "Let's prove 'em wrong."

"Wouldn't know, I haven't been checking out the ladies all that much." This was partially a lie. Candace had the texts on her phone from a drunken cake-Cass to prove this as well. Talk about asses and all that. "But the company has been good.."

<> Nicodemus actually didn't answer her question that time. After all, he did have an opinion on everybody. He was like a fussy mother hen, really. Everybody was out to do bad things to Cass and he had to protect her (it was a bit late for that, however).
With both weapons summoned, however, Cass wasted no time in making the first move - which was a total and complete flop, actually. Sometimes someone just understepped and over-turned into a swing of a blade as long as Nicodemus was and completely missed.

What Cass would be surprised to find out, was that Robert seemed to quiet down (for once) when an opponent came at him. Despite her miss, Robert moved quickly and quietly to take the chance at a clean hit. There were no bells and whistles, for once - he simply waited for her to leave herself open, and upon the stumble, sliced her clear across the body with one side of the batleth, before pulling back and landing on the balls of his feet. His stance returned to defensive, and only then, did he grin.
"That's not fair. You gotta at least have an opinion on the ladies, even if it's just for fun. I mean, obviously Deus already got the most beautiful girl in the world, Petra," His voice drawled on the last word as if that was obvious, "And otherwise, it's just filled with beauty. Both male and female." Yes, he looked a little smug.

"I try to not have opinions on that kinda stuff. Not to say I'm not passing glances at certain asses that walk by." Which could have meant anything, really. An a** attached to a woman, a man, an a** as in a personality type...it was a sort of vague statement.
Never the less, with her little slip-up cleared up, Cass regained her footing and brought Nicodemus swinging around again - not an overly flashy motion, really, but there was still a certain amount of play to it. Yes, spars should have been more serious, but it wasn't as though her goal was to break Robert. If she was mean he wouldn't want to play again!

He grinned to hear her admit she checked out asses. That was fair enough, and he stopped teasing her about it. Of course, the mention of Petra made him have that same conflict that arose when Candace started joking about their kiss, and he couldn't really decide what he wanted.
On the one hand, mother may I.
But on the other had, anyone, even a girl, kissing those lips he had claimed as his own, made him a little.. jealous.
But on the third, more firm hand, if he was involved..
Completely distracted by the possibilities, Robert lost track of what he was doing, and when he snapped out of it, he sputtered quickly and twirled around, bringing his full force onto the swing as the batleth slammed into Cass's side. He hadn't meant to hit so hard, but now he was imagining things, and really, he would probably be useless for the rest of the day.

While she was fortunate there wouldn't be any lasting damage, Robert hit hard! Especially when it was like a tale of David and Goliath between the large and built Robert and the small and not-so-built Cass. Still, it was kind of nice to get knocked around now and then - err, in spars, that was.
Couldn't always be the one hitting fast and hard, after all.
She had half rolled after the blunt of OW, HURTING had struck, rolling up to her feet before she fired onto Robert once with her gun. Okay, she really needed to work on her aiming with that too. Note to self: Target practice.

Oh s**t she's got a gun oh s**t oh s**t-PEW. The bullet grazed his shield, and he stopped cringing, assessing the damage for a moment before realizing he was scared shitless of guns for some reason. He was sure living in the city had given him some kind of ridiculous phobia.. but things were different now. One bullet wasn't going to end him. Especially a bullet with bad aim. So he grinned foolishly, and held his batleth out in front of him, charging forward like a battering ram. When he rammed into Cass, fully expecting her to block with her own weapon, he shoved his force into it, damaging her by sheer stubborn will. Plus, this close, he was able to bend down and give her the smoulder.  HP: 42 Damage: 6

Cass actually did make a point to block at least some of the damage to her shield with her blade, faltering only when Robert pulled out the smoulder. Oh, was that they game they were playing? She could play it too, fortunately.
However, when Cass played the game, it came with a very meager counter-weight (no really, Robert was probably at least 100 pounds of muscle over her and her shortness) as she pushed back against his weapon with hers a- oh yeah, she came with the gun still.
Which she fired with much better accuracy from a near point-blank radius.HP: 26/50 Damage: 5

The hit shook him out of his confusion, and he snickered nervously, lifting his batleth up over his shoulder. "Uhh- damn, sorry. I must have been blinded by your beauty, amirite?"
And of course, the only proper thing to do after complimenting someone was to butt them with your weapon. Which he did. Right in the stomach.

That was totally what you did after complimenting someone. Robert had it right, it was the rest of the cosmos that had it wrong.
Cass doubled over for a moment, making a small pained noise - after all, the stomach, shield or not, was squishy and unhappy when it got hit. It also housed the source of angry wonder-powers.
With that done, however, she swung Nicodemus around at him again - and with a torso as big as his, it made a rather easy target.
