Marcus had a problem. To everyone else, it was probably not a problem at all. In fact, to others, they might consider it a non-problem. A mountain out of a mole hill, but then to him, Cassandra Norris WAS a mountain and he was never sure he could quite do right for her. He had the small gifts he’d more or less saved, he had the ring, (rings technically), but… He lacked two things.
Cake, for a small treat to give her, and flower. He’d been a dumb ******** and forgotten to buy her flowers and every girl needed flowers when she was proposed to right? It was so simple, but he’d forgotten about it. He didn’t have shore leave to do it on. He already had the chapel and tux and everything ‘ready’. But he needed flowers.
He just did.
Asking Edith was just bad form. He didn’t know her, and alas, she was a woman. She would bring the shame of a thousand suns upon him. Allan would probably have him origami flower that s**t. Caelius was just… he’d tell him to not bother him. H was….. Yeah. Yeahhhhhh no. Aria was Cass’s leader and she wasn’t fond of him. Simon would say it was a waste of time, Clarice would also bring the shame of a thousands suns and she was gone to boot. Death assistant and moon h had no clue but… he did know Lance. Lance knew he was in love with Cass and he was a cool guy. He… Marcus faced facts. He was probably the best guy to go to.
Hence, the moon trainee wandering aimlessly around the barracks looking to the temporary Mist assistant.

With the main building clear, it was expected that Lance would have sequestered himself away in the Mist Lounge. There he would reconnect himself to his cameras and join in the monitoring of Deus Ex, holding the double-position of watching the island's security while keeping an eye out for ways to keep the Mist division up to date with information. But that was the Lance of seven months ago. The Lance now was nowhere near that place.
Instead, Lance kept a stoic expression as he examined what was in front of him. Two pairs: two's and fives, with a four. He could easily break those pairs and try for a flush, but with two pairs... Lance moved a small stack of chips forward. "Raise."

The table had a few hunters and if not for what Marcus thought was a chair glowing with runes, he might have missed Lance. At least the runes gave him away, very few runic chairs after all. He was in the middle of what looked to be a game and Marcus hesitated. He didn't want to interrupt but.
The panic buttons were pushed as he was antsy.
Edging over to the mist assistant, he shuffled a bit before speaking up. "Hey Lance?" One of the people gave him a look. 'Why is a trainee here?' "Uh, I need some help. Like right now kind of help."

"Right now as in now-now?" Lance asked, glancing at the trainee. The bets were still going around the table as Lance raised a hand, waving it at him. "Wait 'til the round's done."
Fold. Raise. Raise. Fold. Lance muttered darkly as another hunter claimed the chips, tossing his cards down on the table. "Right. I'll catch you guys later. What's up?" The latter was directed to Marcus as Lance maneuvered away from the table, glancing up at him.

"Now-now." Marcus Would still wait, watching Lance and the other hunters make their bets and Lance failing to win his chips. Sorry Lance, but in his mind, his problem was far greater than any game of whatever.
Even as Lance and him moved from the table, it wasn't exactly super fast but Marcus would forgo a bit of privacy for this. "I forgot the ******** flowers." He was half angry, though it was directed at himself. "I got everything ready, done, good to go, but I forgot the ******** flowers Lance, I can't do it without flowers and god damn it." He was making about as much sense as Dis did when hungry. "I forgot the ******** flowers."

Lance glanced sideways at Marcus. "And?" Lance was not impressed. He gave him a look that read, 'You seriously interrupted my game for that? Really?'

"I got the ring, I have like, the whole ******** thing mapped out. I planned it. I stayed up before I went to get it on how I was going to do it. But out of all the things, I forgot the ******** flowers. The flowers Lance. I need the flowers. I mean what do, do I just do it without them? I could but it wouldn't be the same. It has to be perfect and I can't ******** it up. Not for her. But I don't have a chance to get her flowers anymore because I ******** forgot. I ******** up. I set it up so we'd have a month and ******** can't even get the proposal right because I forgot the ******** flowers."
Marcus you're beginning to panic again. "Yes Dis am beginning to panic because I ******** up and I seriously don't know how to fix it." You also just answered me out loud. "I just-augh ******** style="color: darkblue">That's a first I think.
"I. Need. Help."

Ring. Flowers. Her. Proposal. Two and two clicked together in his head, prompting the Mist assistant to stop and consider the trainee before him. His elbows were propped up on his armrests, fingers interlocking as he rested his chin on them as if brooding. "Let me get this straight," he said bluntly. "You're asking Cass to marry you. You, a trainee asking another trainee for her hand in marriage."

Yes. yes he was Lance. He was going to ask Cass to marry him. Why did you make it sound like it was a bad thing? Oh right, because in some ways it was.
"I.. to be fair, she brought it up first. Wait why-" he took a deep breath. Sort is thoughts. He could do this. "Yes. I am going to ask Cass to marry me." He was trying to hide the embarrassment, but it was beginning to show. "And I forgot to get her flowers while I was out."

Lance slowly inhaled, holding his breath as he broke his interlocking fingers to rub the bridge of his nose. Slowly, ever so slowly (and noisily) he let it out. "I don't think you have any idea of what you're getting into," he began, dropping his hands onto the chair. "You know what happens when one falls? You lose two hunters instead of one. And as trainees? The risk is even higher. Are you willing to chance that? You're not going to be there to protect her all the time."

"No, Lance, I think I do. I really think I do or I would not have spent well over a week having moments where I realize how no matter what I do, what I say, in the end one of us will be alone and that thought terrifies me more than anything." He was struggling not to show the fear on his face, struggling not to just leave.
He hated the feeling of being helpless. "I just.. I want her to be happy.." He just kept talking, Dis sighing, but not telling him to shut up. "I want to give her...I want to marry her because we might not have the chance. Back in the sahara, before we got rushed to the antarctic... We realized we might die. We didn't and... I love her and I want to marry her Lance. I don't care how long we have but I want to marry her before..." The words came out and he grit his teeth. "Before that happens."

"Think, not know." Marcus himself confirmed it with his own words. Lance couldn't blame him. It was something Lance himself had thought about several times before. It was a thought he had given up on in futile. Marriage was something that had too many negatives than Lance cared for. He himself preferred to interpret a relationship in other ways. Even if his current relationship of choice was in shambles.
As Marcus spoke, Lance adjusted his wheelchair in order to better face the moon trainee. He waited until Marcus was well into his rant before he shot out with his right fist, catching Marcus in the gut to bring him down to his level. His other hand shot out and grabbed his collar, pulling him close. "You listen to me," Lance growled as he brought his face close to the Moon's, keeping his voice low. "'cause I'm only going to tell this to you once. I don't approve of this. So you better make damn sure you keep my girl happy. You do anything to her, and I will hunt you down and <******** your s**t up. You are going to regret every moment. I will make your life hell. You read me?"
Lance pushed Marcus back and let go before leaning back in his chair. "Now," he began in a normal tone. "You needed flowers. What kind, how many, and when."

Lance's fist got a wide eyed, pained Marcus as he doubled over, not fighting the move as the mist hunter proved very first hand that he was still able to ******** s**t up without trying. Marcus had seen it in the run they did but being punched was a bit of point driven home.
Staring at Lance, he remembered the whole thing about treating Cass right from before. God did he want to treat Cass right. He worried constantly he was messing something up, that he would make her sad, ruin something for her, that he couldn't do enough. Lance's face was easy read in the sense he was being damned honest. He cared about Cass. Not like Marcus did, but he cared.
Their faces were so close, and without hesitation, Marcus went in, whispering tenderly, "no homo" before lips pressed to lips.
Dis sighed in his head. If only.
Glaring through the sting of the punch, Marcus frowned. "If that happens I'll give you my location and let you go to town." Pushed back, He rubbed the back of his neck. Mist hunter had a grip. "Yes. I was.. planning to buy a dozen red roses. Very classic, and well... the meaning of love you know? I can pay you back to, I just... don't have a day off anymore."

His lips would have rough, burned as they were by sun and wind. Lance's grip on his shirt tightened, holding him close. The unicorn was not for him, the thief of one of his maidens. And yet... He pulled back, his grip tightening on the trainee's collar. "Welcome to the herd; you are now mine."
"No need. I will know. And I will find you." There was a heavy certainty to it. Marcus could be sure that he would be watched very closely by a protective Assistant through the cameras. At least, until they became hunters and moved out into the town. Then it was very likely that the new Mist Lounge would be located in the same area, given their luck...
Lance pulled out his phone and began to type a message. "Dozen red. Card? Ribbons? And when." Lance prompted, looking at Marcus again. "You didn't give me the when."

Lance: Really cool guy, also going to kill him in his sleep should anything happen to Cass.
Still a good guy in Marcus's book.
The trainee blinked, looking away. "No card or ribbons. Just a simple bouquet. And... as soon as human possible. I.. I want to propose to her by the end of the week. Idealy? I'd do it tomorrow if I could. I- Thank you. Jesus I- Dis no."
What? He hasn't said how you're going to pay him back. Could be those types of Favors. You're terrible, and I highly doubt that. I'm just saying... could be.
"Sorry about that but, what do I need to do to pay you back?"
