There were not a whole lot of romantic places on the island. Well, there were a few but the island was still covered in a thick mist, so actually going to those places was more or less a bad idea unless you were armed. Or wee Marcus, who’d checked out runic daggers and then requested even more. He’d made a run for his dorm room, and used the booze he’d not opened as bribery. He only needed the daggers for a short while. And the guy with the paperwork had given him a stern glare, told him he had 3 hours, and if he wasn’t back by then, he would regret it.

Marcus was damn sure he’d be back in three hours.

Setting up the area wasn’t that hard. Setting the trail wasn’t either. It was like Valentines. He started with one gift, and each one would lead to another. The first gift was A simple hair clip, a white rose. The next was a photo framed in dark wood, the first photo they ever took together. The next gift was a picture of her, sleeping, clutching the Unico plush with a note. ‘I never would realize I could be jelous of a stuffed animal until that moment.’ A small white totoro charm. The next gift was the petal of a red rose, where a small andes mint. ‘Soon.’

It was the last gift before the map would lead to the final spot, the grassy edge where they had taken their first date. Marcus stood, runic daggers on the ground, letting him keep his weapon unsummoned. He’d been lucky, as so far, no creatures had come but they probably didn’t have long. Right now it was just a waiting game.

He was so bad about spoiling her. She'd been napping when he tucked the map into her arms and left to go about his diabolical scheme. All it had taken was a well timed text to rouse her and send her out on her little treasure hunt - even if she always did have a small way of being frustrated with them. They were always fun 'little' treasures, yes, but she wanted to know where the big treasure, Marcus himself, was hiding amongst all of this.

Never the less, each item was given a special amount of consideration: the clip was clipped right into her hair, pulling her bangs out of her face; the photo got a long look as she looked at both of their faces - Marcus looked so nervous, for some reason, with his arm around her as though he wasn't sure if it was OK while he was leaned in to kiss her cheek ; the photo of herself with the Unico plushie caused her to giggle - she loved that damn thing. She'd almost not been able to bring herself to snuggle with it as it probably had been hell for him to get, but she'd done it anyways, leaving her sometimes sandwiched between Unico and Marcus; The Totoro charm was hooked onto her phone with a grin, looking at it next to the other charms she had - small and mostly gifts. They were nice, but it already was going to be her show stealer.

The last gift caused her to quirk a brow. Soon? What was soon, precious? She wasn't about to just carry the mint around and let it melt in her pocket, however, so she popped it in her mouth before she went to finish up this little map quest he'd set her on. He better have been the last prize in her little venture or she was going to be rather unhappy, to be honest.

But she wasn't going to have to be unhappy, given where he'd lured her, looking over the somewhat foggy patch of grass that she actually recalled rather well. Plus, she was fortunate that he happened to be there as well, grinning.

"So, what's the occasion for all the gifts, Marcus? Valentine's was months ago and it isn't my birthday." It was also a month too early to pull the 'Half Birthday' card as well.

The small picnic basket was hidden behind him, and he wouldn't need it for a while, at least he hoped not. As she came over he felt that tightening of his chest as his heart pounded in his ears. It was like buying the damn ring only worse. All the lines he'd run in his head were gone. Lost under waves of something he would later call love. In that moment? He just felt like a fool.

You can do this. You've faced worse Marcus, don't worry so much. easy for Dis to say, he wasn't the one looking at the girl he loved more than he thought was possible.

Realizing he was just standing there, Marcus took a breath. "Do you.. remember what you did in the Sahara? What we promised?" It was simple question. It was a good start.
PostPosted: Thu May 24, 2012 12:18 am

This was about their Sahara chat, then? Cass frowned just a bit, but nodded slowly.

"I remember the entire conversation with painful clarity, yes." Painful simply because it cemented this painful reality that one of them was going to die before the other would - and likely not from old age. If they lived past 30 they were going to be painfully lucky.

But she didn't want to think about that.

"Just because we survived that doesn't mean I won't still keep that promise."

s**t. s**t. SHE WAS FROWNING. SHE WAS FROWNING. ABORT. ABORT. END CONTACT. REGROUP. MAYDAY MAYDAY.

Marcus, she's not thinking about THAT, she's thinking about the whole death thing you over-reactive idiot.

He froze, then relaxed all seeming to happen in an instant. His heart was still pounding in his ears. "You draw a ring on my hand, my left hand, on a specific finger. At the time... I didn't return the action. I was.. terrified. Terrified at the thought of losing you. of not being able to give you everything you deserved. I still am terrified that I'll just ******** up somewhere and nothing I do will make things better." He stepped forward reaching out to put her hands in his.
"Out of all the things in this world Cassandra Norris, you scare me the most, because you've made me realize how much I love you."
PostPosted: Thu May 24, 2012 12:38 am

"Oh...oh that. Yeah...." Cass scratched the side of her neck. She definitely remembered that. Hell, she still had the marker in question tucked away in her bag.

"I don't think you're capable of ******** up that bad, Marcus." Cass replied softly, squeezing his hand. He was almost making her nervous and she honestly couldn't place why that was. He'd brought her out here for a reason, and while she could kind of imagine why, it wasn't really at the forefront of her thoughts.

"Now how is that scary, Marcus? Does love come with horns and a tail and maybe a pitchfork?" she paused, patting the chain on her hips. "Well, I guess a gunblade is close to a pitchfork..maybe." she laughed lightly. "It's less scary when it's mutual, though. Marcus Hasan, you big dope. I love you too."

He let out a breathy laugh, a short one but it was enough to help calm his nerves. He could do this. He could. God damn he'd gotten this far right? "It's stupid. It's stupid, but it nags at me. Love didn't come with horns, a tail and a pitchfork. It came with clear blue eyes, a smile that put the sun to shame, a laugh that can make anyone smile, a heart that cares so much while a mind that knows how to conjure up limitless love for everyone around her."

"Love came in the form of a girl I didn't know yet found myself falling for in a matter of days. In months I had made up my mind that I wanted to be with her. And recently.. I decided I wanted to spend the rest of my life with."

He gave her hand a squeeze. "I want to give you forever Cass."
PostPosted: Thu May 24, 2012 1:04 am

To call her love 'limitless for everyone around her' was kind of painful to hear, given that she was there because she'd chosen strangers over her own family. The entirety of the island - even Caelius in his broken way - had become more of a family than 16 years on the outside had been. She didn't really feel like it was all encompassing like he made it sound.

"You didn't even know me that first time, y'know. I was just a girl who had accidentally bumped into you while holding a handgun on a beach in the middle of god-only-knew-where." She remembered it rather clearly, to be honest. There was also a small incident where he'd pulled her out of 'Hey, don't acid yourself 'cause dat s**t hurts, lil gurl', only in better and more words, but still.

"It was a really nice adventure, though.... my infatuation blooming into an actual deep rooted love for you." she smiled a bit and squeezed his hand again.

A deep breath. Mental chanting from himself and Dis. He could do this.

He was doing this. "I know you now. I know what I want. Even if I am a hunter, and I can't give you a picture perfect life I want to give you everything I can. I want to give you everything I am. I love you. He pulled away from her, letting got of her hands.

"I love you Cassandra Norris, and I want to spend the rest of my life with you."
He went on his knee, reaching for the small black velvet case that had up until then, felt like a brick. A click and the case opened, a simple yet elegant diamond band sitting the the satin.
"Will you marry me?"

Redial....

The one thing Cass could be grateful for, in retrospect, was that when her brain went into 'shut down out of disbelief' mode, it didn't leave her with a completely stupid look on her face. There would also be the fortunate fact that Nicodemus was holding up the fort upstairs while the girl sort of stared back at Marcus with a wide-eyed look of shock.

You did know this was coming. The two of you discussed it.

<>

Wait longer to make official what you two have been saying for months? That he'd waste what time you just might not have? Cassandra. Answer him before he gets nervous because you're just staring...and hyperventilating.

Breathe.

LUNGS. Right! She had those when she wasn't still on the internal breath of the gasp-of-shock side of things. She needed to exhale again soon if she didn't want to suffocate herself from just her doe-eyed staring she had going on.

She wasn't sure when she'd clapped her hands over her mouth in a gesture that in any other scene would have seemed cliche to her - because wasn't that always what they did? Gasp, hands over mouth, tear up? If not, well, Cass was going to start a new trend with that reaction right then. She didn't actually want to cry, but it just kind of happened anyways.

Answer.

A few more deep breaths were needed and she took a minute to wipe her eyes to keep the problem from snowballing on her before she did give her answer - "Yes."

As he knelt in the ground, mist swirling around them, Marcus was lost in an ocean of worry.
She wasn't answering him.
She wasn't answering.
That moment of silence was an eternity, and each second that went by he felt that nagging part him, that part that said he just wasn't good enough, that no matter what he would do, no matter how hard he'd try, he wasn't worth it. He didn't deserve it. Panic began to set in, and for a short while his hand trembled in the air.

She was going to say no. The thought flashed in his head like lightning and he felt a pain somewhere inside him. He wanted this. He wanted her to say yes so much. He wanted, more than anything in his life, for her to say yes. That she wanted him. That she wanted to get married to him. He wanted it so badly that he was his own worst enemy.

Tears bubbled up in her eyes and the panic deepened. She was panicking. She didn't know what to do. He didn't know what to do. He almost snapped the case shut, but then-

"Yes."

Electric.
Every sense was hyper alert as it clicked. She said yes. He'd just asked her to marry him, and she'd said yes. She wasn't turning away, she wasn't shaking her head, she said yes. Smiling he was able to breathe again, hand taking her's, pulling the ring out to slip it on her finger as he stood up.

He tried to say something. But it was like he'd lost the ability to speak. A single word ran across his thoughts as he held her hands in his.
"Forever."
PostPosted: Thu May 24, 2012 2:42 am

This was a ring. On her finger. Her ring. Engagement ring. Oh god, she was engaged. To Marcus.

Oh god.

Oh god, this was real. This was real, right? Cass actually pinched herself to make sure that she wasn't secretly dreaming. She would have hated to have been dreaming all of that up. It was beautiful and perfect and he'd even made a point of spoiling her before the fact andaslfkkkkkkkkkkadshfdf.

"Forever." she agreed, voice still a bit weepy from the fact that she'd been three steps away from breaking down into sobs on him moments prior. However, there was one thing she didn't waste a moment on. She squeezed his hands before leaning in to catch his lips with hers for a kiss. Because if this didn't warrant a kiss, nothing did.

Cass leveled up!

Dis wasn't cheering in the back of his head, but he was making a sound. It was strange, high pitched, yet it was happiness. Deep inside him, Dis was happy for him. It was strange having a mental house guest but they were in agreement, that this moment in time was worth all his worry, all his doubt and fear. That Cass, was worth it.

She said yes, and wanted forever, just like they'd promised.

The kiss was met with passion as his hand found her hair, fingers running to press her close, his other hand going to her rear, lifting her up, spinning her around with him. Joy was too light a word for what he felt. Euphoria, bliss, all words that were too mild. Nothing could contain what he felt. as the kiss ended, he turned to the basket, pulling out bouquet of red roses.

"One month Cass. I... we have a month. We can't afford to wait." He pressed his head to her own. "I don't want to wait anymore."
PostPosted: Thu May 24, 2012 3:05 am

Nicodemus was nearly silent in Cass's head. Certainly there was that brush of his presence over her mind - a mild approval. He'd never approved of Marcus or the fact that the man had been such a distraction to what she should have been focusing on, but he'd relented and was at least able to brush some sort of happiness for her into her mind.

But Cass's own happiness was enough to counterbalance the lack of enthusiasm from her bonded - the weapon, that was. Her fingers ran back through his hair in turn, as they spun, even for a moment when they parted, a bright grin on her face.

It seemed that despite the fact she'd already been spoiled with gifts and the ring and the whole 'life together' thing, he'd also gotten roses. To be honest, she wasn't the biggest fan of roses, but from him? All flowers would be her favorite - always. She cradled the bouquet in her arms, leaning back against him.

"One month? I don't know how much we can get together in that time, but we'll do it." she was practically shaking by that point in time - excitement. It was obvious.

Smiling, the worry and fear was gone, utterly and completely. "I... we'll do it Cass. I'll do whatever it takes but we'll do it. I know we can." He picked up the now empty basket, motioning to the daggers. "Once I remove em we'll have to run back to the building. Not the most romantic but-" He kissed her nose.

"I wanted to pick someplace special for us." Another kiss. "We can watch a movie when we get back. And I mean actually watch the movie." He laughed, "I have to admit, this feels... amazing Cass. I just... I want to spend my life with you."
